In de Valpreventieweek doet Veiligheid.nl één krachtige oproep: zet senioren in beweging voor valpreventie!

Veiligheid.nl richt zich hierbij op belangrijke stakeholders binnen de ketenaanpak valpreventie. Zij kunnen er namelijk voor zorgen dat ouderen na het invullen van de Valrisicotest in actie komen én na het volgen van een valpreventieve beweeginterventie in beweging blijven. Zo wordt samen een grote stap gezet richting minder valongevallen en meer zelfstandigheid voor senioren.

Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.

Transposition of a literary or scientific work, including technical work, from one language into another language, professional translation, including translation proper, interpretation and terminology, is indispensable to preserving clarity, a positive climate and productiveness in international public discourse and interpersonal communication. Thus, on 24 May 2017, the General Assembly adopted resolution 71/288 on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30 September as International Translation Day. Languages, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social integration, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and the planet. There is growing awareness that languages play a vital role in development, in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in attaining quality education for all and strengthening cooperation, in building inclusive knowledge societies and preserving cultural heritage, and in mobilizing political will for applying the benefits of science and technology to sustainable development. An essential factor in harmonious communication among peoples, multilingualism is also regarded by the United Nations General Assembly as a core value of the Organization. By promoting tolerance, multilingualism ensures effective and increased participation of all in the Organization’s work, as well as greater effectiveness, better performance and improved transparency.

Blasphemy Rights Day

Blasphemy Day, held each year on September 30, also known as International Blasphemy Day or International Blasphemy Rights Day, educates individuals and groups about blasphemy laws and defends freedom of expression, especially the open criticism of religion which is criminalized in many countries.

Blasphemy Day was introduced as a worldwide celebration by the Center for Inquiry in 2009. Events worldwide on the first annual Blasphemy Day in 2009 included an art exhibit in Washington, D.C., and a free speech festival in Los Angeles. Blasphemy Rights Day is a day to show solidarity with those who challenge oppressive laws and social prohibitions against free expression, to support the right to challenge prevailing religious beliefs without fear of violence, arrest, or persecution. Blasphemy Rights Day is observed every September 30 to commemorate the publishing of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons, which angered religious believers around the world, many of whom expressed their disapproval with violent protests, riots, and in some cases, murder. While many perceive “blasphemy” as offensive, this event is not intended to ridicule and insult others. Rather, it was created as a reaction against those who would seek to take away the right to satirize and criticize a particular set of beliefs given a privileged status over other beliefs. Observing International Blasphemy Rights Day is a way of showing opposition to any resolutions or laws, binding or otherwise, which discourage or inhibit freedom of speech of any kind. Freedom of expression, including the right to criticize any belief, religious, political, or otherwise, is the only way in which any nation with any modicum of freedom can exist. Without this essential liberty, dissent can be suppressed and silenced by labeling it as “defamation” or “blasphemy.” Even rhetoric that uses the guise of sensitivity, such as “hurting religious feelings” can be twisted to stifle opposition by turning popular sentiment against it.

Europa verslaafd aan gas uit Rusland en de VS.

Sinds de Russische invasie van Oekraïne (2022) komt er veel minder gas via pijpleidingen uit Rusland binnen en schakelde de EU massaal over op vloeibaar gas dat per tanker wordt aangevoerd: Liquefied ‘Natural’ Gas, of LNG. Het onderzoek ‘The LNG trap‘ van Greenpeace België laat zien hoe twee stromen elkaar kruisen: we blijven Russisch LNG importeren, terwijl we onszelf tegelijkertijd vastzetten met langlopende contracten voor Amerikaans LNG. Het gevolg: een gevaarlijke afhankelijkheid van zowel Poetin als Trump.

Pax voor Vrede, BankTrack, The Rights Forum en 22 andere organisaties uit diverse Europese landen organiseerden op 29 september 2025 een online evenement over de publicatie van het rapport ‘Don’t Buy Into Occupation’ (DBIO).

Wat verwachten Palestijnen die in de buurt van Israëlische nederzettingen wonen van bedrijven en financiële instellingen die betrokken zijn bij de Israëlische nederzettingenindustrie? Wat mogen Nederlanders die zijn aangesloten bij een pensioenfonds, die verzekeringen afsluiten bij verzekeraars en die klant zijn bij een bank verwachten van deze financiële instellingen op het gebied van maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen? Welke acties mag de Nederlandse burger verwachten van de Nederlandse overheid als het aankomt op maatschappelijk verantwoord handelen door diezelfde overheid en door Nederlandse ondernemingen? Pax voor Vrede, BankTrack, The Rights Forum en 22 andere organisaties uit diverse Europese landen organiseerden een online evenement waarbij op deze vragen werd ingegaan. De organisaties maken deel uit van de coalitie DBIO. De DBIO-coalitie is een gezamenlijk initiatief van 25 Palestijnse, regionale en Europese organisaties uit België, Frankrijk, Ierland, Nederland, Noorwegen, Spanje en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. De coalitie wil de financiële relaties tussen bedrijven die betrokken zijn bij de illegale Israëlische nederzettingen in de bezette Palestijnse gebieden en Europese financiële instellingen onderzoeken en onder de aandacht brengen. Tijdens het online evenement presenteerde de coalitie haar eerste onderzoeksrapport ‘Exposing the financial flows into illegal Israeli settlements‘.

Every year, the International Astronautical Federation with the support of the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), holds the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) which is hosted by one of the national society members of the IAF.

They are an annual meeting of the actors in the discipline of space, and are generally held in late September or early October. They consist of plenary sessions, lectures and meetings. The IAC is attended by the agency heads and senior executives of the world’s space agencies. As the Second World War came to an end, the United States and the Soviet Union held different and competing political worldviews. As the Cold War began to take shape, communication between the two countries became less frequent. Both countries turned their focus to achieving military superiority over the other. Six years after the Iron Curtain fell, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) was formed by scientists from all over Europe in the field of space research in order to collaborate once more. During the years of the Space Race, the IAF was one of the few forums where members of both East and West Europe could meet during the annual International Astronautical Congresses.

Weekend van de Wetenschap 2025

Weekend van de Wetenschap is sinds 2012 een Nederlands wetenschapsevenement, jaarlijks organiseert het NEMO wetenschap en technologiemuseum met steun van het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap dit weekend.

Doel van het evenement is om een breed publiek kennis te laten maken met wetenschap en techniek. Veel (onderzoeks)instellingen, bedrijven, universiteiten, science centra en sterrenwachten organiseren dan publieksactiviteiten zoals rondleidingen, workshops, debatten en lezingen. Wetenschap is overal en altijd om ons heen, soms zonder dat we het doorhebben. Het is de basis van onze technologie, de geneeskunde en onze kennis over de wereld om ons heen. Maar hoeveel weten we eigenlijk over de wetenschap achter ons dagelijks leven? Tijdens Weekend van de Wetenschap kunnen kinderen op zoek naar antwoorden op deze en vele andere vragen, en worden ze meegenomen op een fascinerende reis door de wetenschap. Weekend van de Wetenschap is een gratis festival voor jong en oud met wetenschappers, spannende experimenten, boeiende lezingen en inspirerende ontdekkingen.

NL Space Week

Tijdens NL Space Week opent de ruimtevaartsector in Nederland haar deuren, zodat jong en oud de mogelijkheid heeft de ruimte te ontdekken, het is een week vol unieke activiteiten op exclusieve ruimtevaartlocaties.

Zo zijn er de bekende ESA ESTEC open dagen en Space Expo op de NL Space Campus in Noordwijk, maar ook de open dagen van SRON en de Oude Sterrewacht in Leiden, en daarnaast ruim 100 internationale astronauten die tijdens het ASE congres een bezoek aan Nederland brengen. Met een uiteenlopende programmering valt er voor iedereen wat moois te halen. Of je nu een student bent, met je hele gezin komt, of je als bedrijf wilt aansluiten: er is ruimte voor iedereen. NL Space Week is een initiatief van NL Space Campus, in samenwerking met ESA ESTEC en de gehele Nederlandse ruimtevaartsector.
