Vroege Vogels is een live-radioprogramma, tv-programma en online community van BNNVARA over natuur en milieu.

In het radioprogramma wordt het gesproken woord omlijst door licht klassieke muziek en salonmuziek. Het radioprogramma werd in 1978 voor het eerst uitgezonden door de VARA en is een van de langst lopende en best beluisterde radioprogramma’s van de publieke omroep. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443).

Journalist Thomas Oudman stelt grote vraagtekens bij de import van zogenaamde duurzame soja. Hij noemt het ‘sjoemelsoja’. Deze zondag richten we onze microfoons op de vogelzang op Texel, van de duinen, via het binnenland naar de zee. Op het eiland van Brienenoord in Rotterdam krijgen de leerlingen een buitenles in vogelnamen. En verder: Het geduld van de bloemen door Stefan Brijs, regels tegen roof uit de natuur in Apeldoorn, vogelen met Gen Z en waterplanten. De column is deze week van Jelle Reumer.

World Fish Migration Day 2025

World Fish Migration Day is a biennial international one-day global celebration to raise awareness for the importance of free-flowing rivers and migratory fish, organisations from around the world organise their event around the common theme of FREE FLOW.

Many fish need to migrate to reproduce, feed and complete their life cycles. They are a crucial link in the food chain and play an essential role in creating healthy and productive river systems. Furthermore, they are vital to the livelihood of millions of people around the world. They are ecologically, culturally, economically, and recreationally important! However, many are critically endangered or threatened. It is our shared responsibility to find solutions to restore fish migration, recover healthy rivers and prevent future degradation and species extinction! To accomplish this brighter future, an excellent place to start is by educating others and raising awareness about the current situation as well as discover and implement solutions to the challenge.

Dag Aandacht voor Sterven 2025

De Dag Aandacht voor Sterven is een dag waarop het Landelijk Expertisecentrum Sterven speciale aandacht vraagt voor sterven.

Het doel is om de thema’s sterven en dood meer bespreekbaar te maken. Op de Dag Aandacht voor Sterven worden daarvoor bijeenkomsten en themadagen georganiseerd. Alle hospices ontvangen uit naam van het Landelijk Expertisecentrum Sterven een bos bloemen.

De twee minuten stilte-estafette in alle zeven Nederlandse universitaire ziekenhuizen (UMC’s) is geen demonstratie, maar een actie om op te komen voor duizenden slachtoffers in Gaza die medische zorg nodig hebben.

Aanleiding voor de actie is de verslechterende medische situatie in de Gazastrook door aanhoudende aanvallen van het Israëlische leger. Negentien van de 36 ziekenhuizen in Gaza zijn nog (deels) operationeel, meldde de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) donderdag. Zeven daarvan kampen met zulke ernstige tekorten aan veilige voorzieningen, materiaal en zorgverleners dat ze alleen basale spoedeisende hulp kunnen bieden. Met de ‘stille actie’ willen zorgverleners stilstaan bij hun collega’s in Gaza, onder wie de Nederlandse Salih El Saddy, aios huisartsgeneeskunde aan het Erasmus MC.  Een oproep voor een landelijke estafetteactie is inmiddels ondertekend door verschillende artsen van alle UMC’s.

Annual EU Day Against Impunity / Europese Dag tegen Straffeloosheid 2025

Since 2016, the 23rd of May marks the annual EU Day Against Impunity for Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes.

Under the auspices of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in cooperation with the European Commission, the Genocide Prosecution Network and Eurojust, this initiative aims to raise awareness of the most heinous crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. At the same time, the EU Day Against Impunity is intended to promote national investigations and prosecutions, to formally recognise the common efforts of the EU Member States and the European Union in enforcing international criminal law, to address the position and participation of victims in criminal proceedings for these crimes, and to reinvigorate Europe-wide commitment to the continuing fight against impunity for these crimes. The first EU Day Against Impunity took place on 23 May 2016. Since then, the event has been attended by practitioners, representatives of international tribunals, Member States, the European Institutions and international organisations, non-governmental organisations, academics, lawyers, journalists, etc. The initiative represents the implementation of one of the measures decided in the Strategy of the Genocide Prosecution Network to combat impunity for the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes within the European Union and its Member States (Measure 7c).

On 22 May 2025, Eurojust, the Genocide Prosecution Network, European Commission and Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU jointly marked the 10th EU Day Against Impunity for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. The hybrid event gathered 175 representatives of judicial authorities, civil society and the diplomatic community at Eurojust’s headquarters and online to discuss the protection of the independence and integrity of judicial authorities investigating and prosecuting core international crimes. International judicial authorities are increasingly confronted with challenges such as sanctions, funding limitations, and lack of cooperation. These obstacles risk disrupting ongoing investigations and proceedings, ultimately undermining justice for the victims of some of the most heinous crimes.

The purpose of World Turtle Day, May 23, sponsored yearly since 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue, is to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourage human action to help them survive and thrive.

World Turtle Day is celebrated around the globe in a variety of ways, from dressing up as turtles or wearing green summer dresses, to saving turtles caught on highways, to research activities. Turtle Day lesson plans and craft projects encourage teaching about turtles in classrooms.
