De coronapandemie, coronacrisis of COVID-19-pandemie is de wereldwijde verspreiding in 2020 van de ziekte COVID-19 en de ingrijpende gevolgen voor de samenleving.
De veroorzaker is SARS-CoV-2, een voor de mens nieuw coronavirus afkomstig uit een dierlijke gastheer. Vanaf 12 december 2019 werd in de Chinese miljoenenstad Wuhan een cluster van symptomen van een “longontsteking van onbekende oorsprong” waargenomen. In januari werd het virus voor het eerst geïdentificeerd. In de maanden daarna raakten miljoenen mensen over de hele wereld besmet. Een deel overleed. Sinds 11 maart 2020 wordt de uitbraak van COVID-19 erkend als een pandemie.
Het maatschappelijke leven in een flink deel van de wereld kwam voor een groot deel tot stilstand en er diende zich een recessie aan.

Public health experts say COVID-19 testing is a crucial tool to help control the pandemic. Today we explain the different types of COVID-19 tests and how they work.
A diagnostic test will tell you if you are currently infected with the virus. It is normally taken with a nasal or throat swab. Most diagnostic tests measure if you currently have COVID-19 by detecting the virus’s genetic material in the sample, or by measuring the proteins on the surface of the virus.
An antibody test shows if you have ever had COVID-19, by detecting if your immune system has ever fought the virus. These tests do not show if you currently have COVID-19. And we don’t yet know whether a previous infection offers any protection from the virus. Some people have been infected more than once.
Two weeks ago, the United Nations called on world leaders to pledge their support to ensure that there is global access to tests, treatments and vaccines against COVID-19.
Remember, even if you haven’t had a test, when you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should self-isolate to make sure you don’t pass on the virus to anyone else.

The Climate Clock is a collaboration of artists, scientists and activists and is part of the Beautiful Trouble community of projects.
The ClimateClock shows two numbers. The first, in red, is a timer, counting down how long it will take, at current rates of emissions, to burn through our “carbon budget” — the amount of CO2 that can still be released into the atmosphere while limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This is our deadline, the time we have left to take decisive action to keep warming under the 1.5°C threshold. The second number, in green, is tracking the growing % of the world’s energy currently supplied from renewable sources. This is our lifeline. Simply put, we need to get our lifeline to 100% before our deadline reaches 0.
