Esperantotago povas referenci al la tri diversaj datoj: la 2-a de junio, la 26-a de julio aŭ la 15-a de decembro:
- 2-a de junio: Tago de la Esperanta Lingvo aŭ la Tago de la lingvo Esperanto, pro la unua aprobo fare de la rusa cenzuro por la publikigo de la Unua Libro (la ‘Fundamento’) la 2-an de junio 1887.
La -an de Junio la Esperantianoj celebras la Tagon de la Esperanta Lingvo, ĉar tiu estas la unusola certa dato pri la apero de la Unua Libro.
- 26-a de julio: Tago de la Unua Libro pro la aperigo de la unua lernolibro de la Lingvo Internacia (la Unua Libro) verkita de D-ro Esperanto (kaŝnomo de L. L. Zamenhof). La dato (la 26-an de julio 1887 laŭ Gregoria kalendaro aŭ la 14-an de julio 1887 laŭ la rusa Julia kalendaro) estas tiu de la dua aprobo fare de la rusa cenzuro por la publikigo de la lernolibro, kun la permeso de disvastigo.
Universala Esperanto-Asocio ĉiujare proklamas ĝin kiel la Tago de Esperanto, foje proponita kune kun Internacia Tago de la Gepatra Lingvo (la 21 de februaro) fare de la UEA-Komitato, ĉar Esperanto evoluis al lingvo kun denaskaj parolantoj. En la deklaracio kiun UEA lanĉis en 2024 ĝi ekzemple emfazas ke “Esperanto estis kreita por ke ĉiuj lingvoj vivu, kaj por ke la dialogo inter malsamlingvaj grupoj okazu sen premo de unu al la alia sed en egaleca maniero, sen diskriminacio.”
- 15-a de decembro : Zamenhofa Tago ankaŭ nomata Zamenhof-festo aŭ Zamfesto estas festotago por esperantistoj. Tiu ĉi tago estas la pli vaste celebrata internacia tago en decembro (la 15-a de decembro, naskiĝtago de L. L. Zamenhof).
Sub la nomo Tago de la Esperanta Kulturo ĝi estas por la Esperanta Civito oficiala festotago kaj samtempe “Tago de Esperanto-literaturo”,
Sub diversaj aliaj nomoj la Zamenhoffesto estas ankaŭ konata por esti la “Tago de la Esperanto-libro”, “Tago de la Esperanta libro” aŭ “Esperanto-Librotago” aŭ “Tago de Esperanto”, “Esperanta tago” aŭ simile.

Earth Overshoot Day 2024
August 1st marks Earth Overshoot Day, the date when humanity has used up nature’s resource budget for the entire year, according to Global Footprint Network, an international sustainability organization that pioneered the Ecological Footprint.
Earth Overshoot Day falling on August 1st signifies that humanity is currently using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet’s ecosystems can regenerate. This overshoot is possible by depleting natural capital, which compromises resource security. The consequences of ecological overspending are evident in deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, and the buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which leads to more frequent extreme weather events and reduced food production. Although Earth Overshoot Day has held steady for a decade, it remains early in the year, occurring just after 7 months of the year have passed. The remainder of the year humanity lives from overuse, further depleting the biosphere. Therefore, even as the date holds steady, the pressure on the planet keeps increasing, since damage from overshoot accumulates over time.

United Nations Secretary-General’s call to action on extreme heat – publication
In response to the rapid rise in the scale, intensity, frequency and duration of extreme heat, UN Secretary-General António Guterres on 25 July 2024 called in the publication ‘United Nations Secretary-General’s call to action on extreme heat‘ for an urgent and concerted effort to enhance international cooperation to address extreme heat in four critical areas:
- Caring for the vulnerable;
- Protecting workers;
- Boosting resilience of economies and societies using data and science;
- Limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C by phasing out fossil fuels and scaling up investment in renewable energy.
Crippling heat is everywhere. Billions of people around the world are wilting under increasingly severe heatwaves driven largely by a fossil-fuel charged, human-induced climate crisis. More than 70 per cent of the global workforce – 2.4 billion people – are now at high risk of extreme heat. The most vulnerable communities are hit hardest.

NASA’s Perseverance Rover Scientists Find Intriguing Mars Rock – publication
NASA’s Perseverance Rover found a fascinating rock that has some indications it may have hosted microbial life billions of years ago, but further research is needed.
A vein-filled rock is catching the eye of the science team of NASA’s Perseverance rover. Nicknamed “Cheyava Falls” by the team, the arrowhead-shaped rock contains fascinating traits that may bear on the question of whether Mars was home to microscopic life in the distant past. Analysis by instruments aboard the rover indicates the rock possesses qualities that fit the definition of a possible indicator of ancient life. The rock exhibits chemical signatures and structures that could possibly have been formed by life billions of years ago when the area being explored by the rover contained running water. Other explanations for the observed features are being considered by the science team, and future research steps will be required to determine whether ancient life is a valid explanation. The rock — the rover’s 22nd rock core sample — was collected on July 21, as the rover explored the northern edge of Neretva Vallis, an ancient river valley measuring 400 meters wide that was carved by water rushing into Jezero Crater long ago.

San Diego Comic-Con International is a comic book convention and nonprofit multi-genre entertainment event held annually in San Diego, California, since 1970; the name, as given on its website, is Comic-Con International: San Diego; but it is commonly known simply as Comic-Con or the San Diego Comic-Con or SDCC.
The convention was founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970 by a group of San Diegans that included Shel Dorf, Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, Ron Graf, and Mike Towry; later, it was called the “San Diego Comic Book Convention”, Dorf said during an interview that he hoped the first Con would bring in 500 attendees. It is a four-day event (Thursday–Sunday) held during the summer (in July since 2003) at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego. On the Wednesday evening prior to the official opening, professionals, exhibitors, and pre-registered guests for all four days can attend a pre-event “Preview Night” to give attendees the opportunity to walk the exhibit hall and see what will be available during the convention.
Comic-Con International also produces WonderCon, held in Anaheim, and SAM: Storytelling Across Media, a conference held in 2016 in San Francisco and beginning in 2018 annually at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego. Since 1974, Comic-Con has bestowed its annual Inkpot Award on guests and persons of interest in the popular arts industries, as well as on members of Comic-Con’s board of directors and the Convention committee. It is also the home of the Will Eisner Awards. Originally showcasing primarily comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts, the convention has since included a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including horror, Western animation, anime, comics, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels. In 2010 and each year subsequently, it filled the San Diego Convention Center to capacity with more than 130,000 attendees. In addition to drawing huge crowds, the event holds several Guinness World Records including the largest annual comic and pop culture festival in the world.

Tuinvlindertelling 2024
Welke soorten vlinders vliegen er in jouw tuin? Tel mee met de tuinvlindertelling en help de vlinders beter in kaart te brengen!
Loop tijdens de tellingdagen een rondje door de tuin en noteer gedurende 15 minuten alle vlinders die je ziet. Maar tel deze waarnemingen niet bij elkaar op, want dan kan het zijn dat je vlinders twee keer telt. Geef van elke vlindersoort het hoogste aantal door in het telformulier dat je tegelijk hebt gezien. Voorbeeld: je ziet eerst 3 dagpauwogen tegelijk. Tien minuten later zijn er weer 2 dagpauwogen. Dan geef je door: 3 dagpauwogen. Zie je later op de dag of één van de andere teldagen weer vlinders? Dan kun je die doorgeven via een nieuwe telling. Heb je een vlinder gezien die niet in de tellijst staat? Dat kan; we tellen alleen de meest voorkomende soorten tuinvlinders. Je hoeft deze waarneming dan niet in te vullen. Belangrijk: als je geen vlinders ziet is het ook belangrijk om dit door te geven. Deze data zijn net zo belangrijk als tellingen waar wel vlinders gezien zijn. Vul dan ‘0 dagvlinders gezien’ in in het telformulier.
