Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month is a global campaign to boost understanding about Pulmonary fibrosis, its symptoms, and the sources of information available to support those impacted.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition in which the lungs become scarred over time; symptoms include shortness of breath, a dry cough, feeling tired, weight loss, and nail clubbing, complications may include pulmonary hypertension, respiratory failure, pneumothorax, and lung cancer. Causes include environmental pollution, certain medications, connective tissue diseases, infections, and interstitial lung diseases. But in most cases the cause is unknown (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis). Diagnosis may be based on symptoms, medical imaging, lung biopsy, and lung function tests. No cure exists and treatment options are limited. Treatment is directed toward improving symptoms and may include oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation. Certain medications may slow the scarring. Lung transplantation may be an option. At least 5 million people are affected globally. Life expectancy is generally less than five years.

PF Awareness Month 2025 & the “Breathing Life” campaign
World Alzheimer’s Month (WAM) is the international campaign from Alzheimer’s Disease International that takes place every September.
In 2025, WAM is advocating for greater awareness and understanding around dementia in a direct campaign that encourages people to ask about dementia. Using the hashtags #AskAboutDementia #AskAboutAlzheimers, WAM is seeking to change peoples’ perceptions and normalise asking questions and learning more about the condition and how it impacts over 55 million people living with dementia globally and their carers.

Kabinet na kabinet heeft gefaald in het waarmaken van grote groene beloftes voor 2030. Hoe willen partijen dat na de aankomende verkiezingen doen?
We willen allemaal een goede toekomst – voor onze kinderen, voor elkaar, voor de aarde waarop we leven. Maar de realiteit is hard: wereldwijd verliezen mensen hun huizen en oogsten door overstromingen, droogte en branden. Ook in Europa: duizenden doden door hitte, bossen in vlammen. Te midden van de escalerende de klimaatcrisis moet het komende kabinet ongekend hard aan de bak om een kans te houden op het behalen van de groene ambities en verplichtingen voor 2030. Aan het einde van de volgende kabinetsperiode moet Nederland ruim een kwart minder uitstoten dan nu en moet het aandeel hernieuwbare energie verdubbelen. Des te belangrijker dat partijen transparant zijn over wat de burger hiervan gaat merken. Welke plannen hebben politieke partijen om dit haalbaar te maken? Hoe combineren ze ambitie met betaalbaarheid, innovatie en brede steun in de samenleving? En welke partijen durven echt stappen te zetten? Meld je nu aan voor het Grote Klimaatdebat! The general debate of each new session of the General Assembly is held the week following the official opening of the session, typically the following Tuesday, and is held without interruption for nine working days. The general debate is a high-level event, typically attended by Member States’ heads of state or government, government ministers and United Nations delegates. At the general debate, Member States are given the opportunity to raise attention to topics or issues that they feel are important. In addition to the general debate, there are also many other high-level thematic meetings, summits and informal events held during general debate week.
The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly – under the theme Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights – comes at a pivotal moment to renew global commitment to multilateralism, solidarity and shared action for people and planet. The 2025 high-level week highlights the urgency of delivering on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals and reinvigorating global cooperation. Two key platforms will spotlight action and solutions: the flagship SDG Media Zone produced by the UN Department of Global Communications with dynamic interviews and panel discussions on SDG solutions held from 22–26 September; and the Goals Lounge, convened by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and hosted by the UN Office for Partnerships from 20-26 September, featuring unscripted dialogues, deep dives into vital issues and interactive experiences. Hundreds of media outlets, brought together by the campaigning platform Avaaz and Reporters Without Borders (RSF), are waging a campaign calling for the protection of Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the emergency evacuation of reporters seeking to leave the Strip, an end to impunity for Israeli crimes against Gaza’s reporters and that foreign press be granted independent access to the territory.
According to RSF data, 220 journalists have been killed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip in less than 23 months. On the night of 10 August alone, the Israeli army killed six journalists in a targeted strike against Al-Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif. Less than a week ago, on Monday, 25 August, the Israeli army killed five journalists in two consecutive strikes. Today, hundreds of media outlets in over 50 countries are mobilising in solidarity with Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, alongside RSF and Avaaz. This international operation consists of an entire or partial blackout of the front pages of print media, banners on online news sites, and audio or video messages broadcast by radio and television stations. In line with the call launched by RSF and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in June, the media outlets involved in this campaign are making three demands:
With the opening of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, they demand strong action from the international community and call on the United Nations Security Council to stop the Israeli army’s crimes against Palestinian journalists.

De meteorenzwerm Aurigiden bereikt op maandag 1 september 2025, rond 08:00, zijn maximum.
Zelfs wanneer de radiant in het zenit zou staan, zouden er van deze zwerm naar verwachting gemiddeld slechts zo’n 4 meteoren per uur vallen. Rond 09:00 staat de radiant van de zwerm in het hoogste punt (op 77°) aan de hemel. Het beste moment om Aurigiden waar te nemen is op 1 september rond 04:45. De radiant staat op dat moment zo’n 46° boven de horizon, in het oosten. Door de matige omstandigheden zijn er in onze streken dan vermoedelijk maar circa 0–3 meteoren per uur van deze zwerm te zien. Samen met meteoren van andere zwermen, en sporadische meteoren, zijn er bij donkere, heldere hemel in totaal circa 10–18 “vallende sterren” per uur te zien. Op een goed donkere plek zijn ongeveer drie keer zoveel meteoren te zien als in dichtbevolkt gebied. De Maan stoort niet. Rond 06:15 gaat het schemeren en om 06:51 komt de Zon op. Over het algemeen zijn de de meteoren van een zwerm niet alleen op de dag van het maximum zichtbaar. Zo is gedurende circa 2,8 dagen rondom het maximum ruim de helft van het maximale aantal meteoren (1 per uur) van de Aurigiden te zien. De zwerm heeft daarmee een relatief korte piek. Er zijn dus nog meer kansen, voor het geval het in de nacht van het maximum niet helder is. Wel is iedere dag die je eerder voor het maximum, of later na het maximum waarneemt het aantal meteoren dat zichtbaar is circa 40% kleiner. De snelheden van de meteoren van de Aurigiden zijn behoorlijk hoog: zo’n 66 km/s, dat is circa 237.600 km/uur.

De meteorologische herfst begint op 1 september op het noordelijk halfrond en op 1 maart op het zuidelijk halfrond, deze duurt dan tot 1 december respectievelijk 1 juni.
In gematigde klimaatzones verliezen de meeste loofbomen en ook andere planten hun bladeren. In de herfst wordt het flink kouder dan in de zomer, hoewel er periodes met warmte kunnen optreden, de zogenaamde nazomer.
