The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (UNDOS) is a United Nations Decade that runs from 2021 to 2030, with a vision of "the science we need for the ocean we want". In a joint appeal, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, are calling on political leaders to urgently establish new international rules on autonomous weapon systems, to protect humanity. The Second International Decade for People of African Descent is a global effort to advance human rights, equality and opportunity for people of African descent around the world. United Nations International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) 2026 aims to raise awareness of the vital importance of rangelands and pastoralists as their frontline custodians. The Day for People of African Descent will be celebrated for the first time on 31 August 2021, through this Observance the United Nations aims to promote the extraordinary contributions of the African diaspora around the world and to eliminate all forms of discrimination against people of African descent. |
