In april 2025 concludeerde het RIVM dat in heel Nederland veel meer PFAS(Per- en polyfluoralkylstoffen) in particuliere eieren kan zitten dan in commerciële eieren, het RIVM-onderzoek 'Source investigation of PFAS in home-produced eggs' bevestigt dat dit vooral komt door de wormen die kippen uit de bodem oppikken.
