The Church on Ruby Road lands on Christmas Day 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Ireland, on BBCiPlayer in the UK.
Long ago on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins and perhaps the secret of her birth… Christmas has come early as brand new images are released from the Doctor Who Christmas special – The Church on Ruby Road. As the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, takes over the TARDIS for his first epic adventure he will be joined by Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, as she makes her debut as the Doctor’s companion. The episode sees the Doctor come face-to-face with the mythical and mysterious goblins as his life collides with Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. Little is known about Ruby Sunday as she was abandoned on Christmas Eve as a baby. Now living with her mum, Carla and grandmother, Cherry her world is about to be turned upside when she encounters the Doctor and the two set off on their first adventure together…

Doctor Who returns in this year with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary.
The Daleks return… and this time in COLOUR!
It’s time to encounter the Daleks once again, but this time in a way you’ve never seen them before. As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of iconic series Doctor Who, one of the show’s most renowned tales is undergoing an out of this world update as it receives an artistic colourisation. Originally transmitted in December 1963 to February 1964, The Daleks were introduced to audiences and soon became one of the Doctor’s most formidable and enduring foes. The story follows the very first crew of the TARDIS as they land in a petrified forest on an alien planet. Determined to explore, the Doctor (William Hartnell) leads his companions into the metal city, where they discover danger at every corner and what will become his deadliest enemy, the mutant Daleks. These seven original 25 minute episodes have now received a cosmic makeover, having been dazzlingly colourised and weaved together into a 75 minute blockbuster to appeal to today’s modern audiences. With brand new sound, a brand new score – created by Mark Ayres – THE DALEKS has been gloriously updated, whilst ensuring the original classic story remains as thrilling as it was when it began in 1963. And, whilst viewers can enjoy watching the colourised version of THE DALEKS when it arrives on 23rd November on BBC Four, it will also sit within The Whoniverse where viewers can also watch the seven part story in its original form.

Allons-y! Ahead of the biggest reunion in time and space, let’s rewatch their adventures again. A watchalong of Doctor Who adventures featuring the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble will be happening on Saturday 4th November 2023. Fans around the world will be able to follow the watchalong with the hashtag, #DoctorDonnathon . To celebrate the Doctor and Donna’s latest adventures in the 60th anniversary Doctor Who specials, there will be a watchalong of fourteen hours of their previous adventures. You will be able to watch along with all the episodes on BBC iPlayer in the UK, or for those around the world, find out where to watch here. 23 november 1963: Doctor Who wordt voor het eerst uitgezonden op BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) TV, wereldwijd vieren de diehard Doctor Who fans (Whovians) daarom op 23 november TARDIS dag.
Doctor Who is een Britse sciencefictionserie over een tijdreiziger. De BBC zendt deze serie sinds 1963 uit, met een onderbreking van 1989 tot 2005. In 1996 werd geprobeerd Doctor Who nieuw leven in te blazen met een televisiefilm die als een soort pilot moest dienen voor een nieuwe serie. Hoewel deze film een kijkcijfersucces was in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, werd het niets in de Verenigde Staten, waar men deze nieuwe serie wilde produceren, en het project werd dan ook niet voortgezet. De serie werd in 2005 alsnog hervat met BBC Wales als producent. Het is een cultureel fenomeen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, onder meer dankzij de jaarlijkse kerstspecial. De Doctor beweegt zich voort in tijd en ruimte in de TARDIS (een acroniem voor Time And Relative Dimension In Space, een relatieve dimensie en tijd in de ruimte). Dit ‘voertuig’ – dat van binnen groter is dan van buiten – had oorspronkelijk de eigenschap zich aan te passen aan de omgeving waarin het zich bevond. Echter, nog voor de aanvang van de serie, in 1963, is het bij een bezoek aan Londen ‘blijven steken’ in de vorm van een politiehokje. Zo’n blauwe telefooncel waarin men de politie kon bellen was tot de jaren 1970 veel te zien in de straten van het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Brian Hodgson maakte het geluid van de TARDIS door met zijn moeders huissleutel over een pianosnaar te schrapen. Doctor Who jubileumseizoen 2023 start op 25 november op BBC iPlayer/BBC One.
