Het Pesticide Action Network International (PAN) riep de “No Pesticides Use Day” in 1988 in het leven om de industriële ramp in Bhopal, India te herdenken, sinds 2010 werd tijdens de bijeenkomst van de Pesticides Task Force besloten om de dag uit te breiden naar een hele week, de campagne No Pesticides Use Week (NPUW) begint op 3 december en eindigt op 10 december.
