The European Council (informally EUCO) is a collegiate body (directorial system) that defines the overall political direction and priorities of the European Union.

EU leaders are meeting in Brussels to discuss Ukraine, the Middle East, competitiveness, migration and foreign affairs. Ahead of the European Council meeting, EU leaders and leaders from the Gulf region will meet in the first EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit on 16 October 2024. The European Council will take stock of preparations for the meetings of the UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October to 1 November 2024, and of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 11 to 22 November 2024.
