#BRICS #BRICSza 2023

BRICS is a grouping of the world economies of BrazilRussiaIndiaChina, and South Africa formed by the 2010 addition of South Africa to the predecessor BRIC, the original acronym “BRIC” (or “the BRICs”) was coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill to describe fast-growing economies that would collectively dominate the global economy by 2050.

BRICS Leaders are expected to attend the XV BRICS Summit and will engage with business during the BRICS Business Forum and engage with the New Development Bank, BRICS Business Council and other mechanisms during the Summit. South Africa will also continue its Outreach to Leaders from Africa and the global South and hold a BRICS Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue during the XV BRICS Summit. While the BRICS Summit is a meeting of Heads of State and Government and not open to the public, there is an extensive business programme arranged around the Summit culminating in the BRICS Business Forum. Businesses may wish to reach out to the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, the Department of Small Business Development (), the South African Chapter of the BRICS Business Council and the South African Chapter of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance for opportunities to attend, engage and participate in their activities during 2023, including in the run up to the XV BRICS Summit. It should be noted that there will be traffic disruptions with road closures in the area surrounding the SCC for the duration of the Summit.
