DESCRIPTION:The International Seabed Authority (ISA; French: Autorité internationale des fonds marins) is a Kingston\, Jamaica-based intergovernmental body of 171 Member States plus the European Union. \nIt was established under the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and its 1994 Agreement on Implementation. The ISA’s dual mission is to authorize and control the development of mineral related operations in the international seabed\, which is considered the “common heritage of all mankind“\, and to protect the ecosystem of the seabed\, ocean floor and subsoil in “The Area” beyond national jurisdiction. The ISA is responsible for safeguarding the international deep sea\, defined as waters below 200 meters (656 feet)\, where photosynthesis is hampered by inadequate light. Governing approximately half of the total area of the world’s oceans\, the ISA oversees activities that might threaten biological diversity and harm the marine environment. Since its inception in 1994\, the ISA has approved over two dozen ocean floor mining exploration contracts in the Atlantic\, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The majority of these contracts are for exploration in the Clarion–Clipperton zone between Hawaii and Mexico\, where polymetallic nodules contain copper\, cobalt and other minerals essential for powering electric batteries. To date\, the Authority has not authorized any commercial mining contracts as it continues to deliberate over regulations amid global calls for a moratorium on deep sea mining. Scientists and environmentalists warn that such mining could wreak havoc on the ocean\, a crucial carbon sink and home to rare and diverse species. Funded by UNCLOS members and mining contractors\, the Authority operates as an autonomous international organization with its own Assembly\, Council\, and Secretariat. DESCRIPTION:El Niño of Zuidelijke Oscillatie is een natuurverschijnsel in de Grote Oceaan. Langs de evenaar in de oostelijke Grote Oceaan komt het voor dat in de loop van sommige jaren een sterke opwarming van normaal koel zeewater plaatsvindt. \nDie opwarming van het zeewater heeft veel invloed op het weer in grote delen van de wereld\, vooral Noord- en Zuid-Amerika. Soms heeft het weerverschijnsel kleine invloed op het weer in Europa. La Niña is fysisch gezien het tegengestelde effect. Dit doet zich voor wanneer ongewoon koud zeewater bij de evenaar is gemeten. El Niño en La Niña zijn beide tekenen van het El Niño Southern Oscillation- of ENSO-effect. El Niño betekent in het Spaans De Kleine Jongen en refereert aan het ‘Kerstkind’ (aangezien dit fenomeen vooral rond die periode voorkomt)\, een benaming die vissers in Peru hebben gegeven. Eigenlijk bedoelen zij daarmee het warme water dat steeds in januari voor de kust van Peru verschijnt en dat daar een eind maakt aan het visseizoen. Onregelmatig\, maar toch gemiddeld eens in de drie tot zeven jaar\, leidt El Niño tot zo’n uitgebreide en sterke verwarming van het oceaanwater dat de hele atmosfeer daar gedurende langere tijd door wordt beïnvloed. In 2026 was in het voorjaar duidelijk dat de kans op El Niño groot was. De El Niño wint snel aan kracht. Voor de periode oktober tot en met december 2026 schat NOAA de kans op 69 procent dat de gebruikte ENSO-index een niveau bereikt dat hoger ligt dan bij eerdere El Niño’s in de historische meetreeks sinds 1950. Of de sterke El Nino van 2026 toevallig zo sterk is of dat klimaatverandering meespeelt is een actief onderzoeksonderwerp. Daar is het laatste woord nog niet over gezegd. Wel worden sommige effecten van El Niño door klimaatverandering versterkt. Zo versterkt klimaatverandering het contrast tussen natte en droge gebieden. Als een gebied bij een El Niño natter is dan normaal\, dan doet klimaatverandering daar een schepje bovenop. Ook is het aannemelijk dat gebieden die bij een El Niño droger zijn\, door klimaatverandering nog droger zijn. Zijn jonge medewerker\, journalist Georges Lefèvre\, die tevens de Tourdirecteur van de eerste editie was\, werd geïnspireerd door de individuele poging in 1895 van wielrenner Jean Marie Corre. Corre introduceerde in 1895 een fiets van aluminium en testte deze in zijn eentje over alle bekende parcoursen in Frankrijk. Je krijgt er geen melding van. Je kunt het nergens controleren. Dat is geen toeval. Voor platforms als Meta\, TikTok en X levert ophef nu eenmaal meer geld op. Maar zo bepaalt een handvol bedrijven welk verhaal Nederland te horen krijgt. En dat raakt onze democratie. Het gekke is: de Europese wet (de Digital Services Act) verbiedt dit eigenlijk al. Alleen handhaaft Nederland nauwelijks. Daarom starten we vandaag een burgerinitiatief. Met 40.000 handtekeningen kan de de Tweede Kamer worden gedwongen om dit probleem op tafel te leggen. Het is tijd om de wet eindelijk te handhaven. COC\, Defend Democracy\, Hivos\, Milieudefensie\, Oxfam Novib\, Stem op een Vrouw\, Transgender Netwerk & DeGoedeZaak geloven dat iedereen het recht heeft om te weten wanneer een platform diens berichten onzichtbaar maakt. Daarom vragen ze de Tweede Kamer om vijf dingen: \n\nEchte handhaving door de toezichthouder\nOpenheid over wat onzichtbaar wordt gemaakt\nBescherming van organisaties tegen het zomaar verwijderen van accounts\nEen meldpunt voor digitale censuur\nEen jaarlijks openbaar overzicht over hoe platforms in Nederland modereren\n\nHoe meer handtekeningen\, hoe sterker ze staan. SUMMARY:Amsterdam Pride en WorldPride Amsterdam 2026
DESCRIPTION:De Pride Amsterdam is een meerdaags evenement met een homocultureel karakter en wordt sinds 1996 jaarlijks rondom het eerste weekend van augustus gehouden in de binnenstad van Amsterdam. \nLhbtiq+-organisaties in de stad organiseren een maand lang allerlei activiteiten. In 2026 is de Amsterdam Pride van 8 tot en met 29 juli. Hoogtepunt is de Canal Parade\, een bonte stoet van boten die op de eerste zaterdag van augustus door de grachten vaart. De tocht gaat van het Oosterdok\, via de Nieuwe Herengracht\, de Amstel en de Prinsengracht naar het Westerdok. Op 4 november 2022 werd bekendgemaakt dat de WorldPride in 2026 in Amsterdam georganiseerd wordt. De WorldPride werd voor het eerst in 2000 gevierd in Rome en vindt sinds 2012 elke twee à drie jaar plaats. Meer nog dan reguliere Pride-feesten staat de WorldPride garant voor veel bezoekers van over de hele wereld. Dikwijls is het het grootste lgbtiq-evenement van het jaar. De WorldPride in Amsterdam zal tevens de EuroPride van 2026 zijn\, waarmee het voor de derde keer is dat de EuroPride in de hoofdstad gehouden wordt. De WorldPride is met een paar dagen overlap direct ná de Amsterdam Pride: van 25 juli tot en met 8 augustus. DESCRIPTION:Het Kwaku Summer Festival (voorheen het Kwakoe Zomerfestival) wordt sinds 1975 bijna elk jaar tijdens een aantal weekeinden in de zomer gehouden in het Nelson Mandelapark in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. \nHet is van origine een Surinaams festival\, maar het heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een multicultureel festival. Het festival is ontstaan in 1975 als voetbaltoernooi\, georganiseerd door Stichting Jongeren Centrum Kwakoe tijdens het 700-jarig bestaan van Amsterdam. Het speelde zich aanvankelijk af op de sportvelden van SV Bijlmer\, op de locatie van het huidige Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In 1983 verhuisde het festival naar de huidige locatie in het Nelson Mandelapark dat in die tijd Bijlmerpark heette. Eind jaren negentig dienden zowel het jongerencentrum Kwakoe als de organisatie van het festival een vergunningaanvraag in. De festivalorganisatie Stichting Kwakoe Events onder leiding van Winston Kout kreeg de vergunning toegewezen en heeft het festival sindsdien georganiseerd. Van een louter Surinaams feest\, voor arme Surinamers uit de Bijlmerhoogbouw die geen geld hebben om op vakantie te gaan\, ontwikkelde het festival zich sindsdien tot een multicultureel festival dat zich ook op Antillianen en Afrikanen richt. In 2005\, “The Sweet Adelines International” have founded this cheery holiday on their 60th anniversary. Barbershop music is a style of a cappella close harmony and vocal harmony\, or unaccompanied vocal music\, characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a primarily homorhythmic texture. Each of the four parts has its own role: generally\, the lead sings the melody\, the tenor harmonizes above the melody\, the bass sings the lowest harmonizing notes\, and the baritone completes the chord\, usually below the lead. The melody is not usually sung by the tenor or baritone\, except for an infrequent note or two to avoid awkward voice leading\, in tags or codas\, or when some appropriate embellishment can be created. One characteristic feature of barbershop harmony is the use of what is known as “snakes” and “swipes”. This is when a chord is altered by a change in one or more non-melodic voices. Occasional passages may be sung by fewer than four voice parts. Barbershop music is generally performed by either a barbershop quartet\, a group of four singers which sings four-part harmony\, or a barbershop chorus\, which closely resembles a choir with the notable exception of the genre of music. \nAccording to the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS)\, “Barbershop music features songs with understandable lyrics and easily singable melodies\, whose tones clearly define a tonal center and imply major and minor chords and barbershop (dominant and secondary dominant) seventh chords that resolve primarily around the circle of fifths\, while making frequent use of other resolutions.” Slower barbershop songs\, especially ballads\, often eschew a continuous beat\, and notes are often held (or sped up) ad libitum. Aside from the bass\, the voice parts in barbershop singing do not correspond closely to their classical music counterparts; the tenor range and tessitura are similar to those of the classical countertenor (including the fact that they sing their highest notes primarily in falsetto\, as a countertenor would)\, the baritone resembles a high lyric baritone in range and a tenor in tessitura\, and the lead generally corresponds to the tenor of classical repertoire\, with some singers possessing a tessitura more similar to that of a high baritone. Simpelweg omdat dode haaien nu eenmaal veel geld opleveren. Alleen al in de haaienvinnensoep verdwijnen miljoenen haaien. Ze worden ook gedood voor hun tanden (souvenir)\, kraakbeen (medicijn) en lever (vitamine A). Sinds de film Jaws vinden veel mensen het stoer om een haai te vangen. Maar uiteindelijk verdwijnen de meeste haaien als “bijvangst” in de visnetten. DESCRIPTION:World Orca Day is a celebration of the species orca (Orcinus orca)\, or killer whale\, is a toothed whale and the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family. \nThe only extant species in the genus Orcinus\, it is recognizable by its distinct pigmentation; being mostly black on top\, white on the bottom and having recognizable white eye patches. A cosmopolitan species\, it inhabits a wide range of marine environments\, from Arctic to Antarctic regions to tropical seas\, but is more commonly documented in temperate or cooler coastal waters. Scientists have proposed dividing the global population into races\, subspecies\, or possibly even species. Orcas are apex predators with a diverse diet. Individual populations often specialize in particular types of prey\, including bony fish\, sharks\, rays\, and marine mammals such as seals\, dolphins\, and whales. They are highly social\, with some populations forming stable matrilineal family groups (pods). Their sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal behaviors\, often unique to specific groups and passed down from generation to generation\, are considered to be manifestations of animal culture. The most studied populations are off the west coast of North America\, which include fish-eating “residents”\, mammal-eating “transients”\, and offshores. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the orca’s conservation status as data deficient as multiple orca types may represent distinct species. Some local populations are threatened or endangered due to prey depletion\, habitat loss\, pollution (by PCBs)\, captures for marine parks\, and conflicts with fisheries. In late 2005\, the southern resident orcas were added to the U.S. Endangered Species list. Orcas have been revered by indigenous peoples from regions including the Pacific Northwest\, Australia and Peru\, while Western cultures have historically feared them. They have been taken by whalers when stocks of larger species have declined. The orca’s image took a positive turn in the 1960s\, due to greater public and scientific awareness and their display in captivity. Since then\, orcas have been trained to perform in marine parks\, a practice that has been criticized as unethical. Artificial intelligence\, the green transition and growing social complexity are transforming how we learn\, work and participate in society. To thrive in this changing landscape\, young people need more than technical skills alone. They need a balanced set of competencies that combines technical\, digital\, AI\, green\, social-emotional and civic skills with the human qualities that technology cannot replace. Under the theme “Skills for a shared future”\,  this year’s World Youth Skills Day activities will spotlight the urgent need for innovative youth skills programmes—initiatives that empower young people not only to adapt\, but to lead with empathy\, bridge cultural divides\, build resilience\, and actively shape a more sustainable and inclusive tomorrow. Youth unemployment remains a major economic and social challenge worldwide. According to the ILO’s Global Employment Trends for Youth 2024\, the global youth unemployment rate fell to 13% in 2023 – a 15-year low and below the pre-pandemic level of 13.8%. However\, recovery has been uneven: in the Arab States\, East Asia\, and South-East Asia\, rates were higher in 2023 than in 2019. Meanwhile\, one in five young people globally – and over a quarter of young women – were NEET (not in employment\, education\, or training)\, with young women’s NEET rate (28.1%) more than double that of young men (13.1%). Even for those who work\, decent jobs remain scarce. Over half of young workers are in informal employment\, and in low-income countries\, three in four hold only self-employment or temporary jobs. Investment in green and blue sectors could create 8.4 million youth jobs by 2030\, but these must come with decent working conditions – including fundamental rights like equal pay\, collective bargaining\, and protection from harassment. \nEducation and training are central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The vision of the Incheon Declaration: Education 2030 is fully captured by Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education 2030 devotes considerable attention to technical and vocational skills development\, specifically regarding access to affordable quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship; the elimination of gender disparity and ensuring access for the vulnerable. In this context\, TVET is expected to address the multiple demands of an economic\, social and environmental nature by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship\, promoting equitable\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth\, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability. TVET can equip youth with the skills required to access the world of work\, including skills for self-employment. TVET can also improve responsiveness to changing skill-demands by companies and communities\, increase productivity and increase wage levels. TVET can reduce access barriers to the world of work\, for example through work-based learning\, and ensuring that skills gained are recognised and certified. Ze deden dit door waterballonnen gevuld met een mengsel van waterstofperoxide\, azijnzuur\, zout en acrylverf over het hek op het beton te gooien. Dit zure mengsel tast beton aan en de waterstofperoxide zorgt ervoor dat staal sneller roest. Met de actie sluit XR zich aan bij de Geef Tegengas-campagne tegen de bouw van het datacenter.
