SUMMARY:Wat zegt een keurmerk nog? - publicatie / Dierenleed verdient geen keurmerk! - petitie
DESCRIPTION:De keurmerken ASC en GGN prijken op bijna alle zalmproducten in onze supermarkten\, ze beloven consumenten verantwoorde visteelt\, schoon water en eerlijk toezicht. \nMaar officiële inspectierapporten en het onderzoek ‘Wat zegt een keurmerk nog?‘ van foodwatch tonen een heel ander beeld: op gecertificeerde kwekerijen sterven vissen bij miljoenen\, worden hygiëneregels aan de laars gelapt en blijven zelfs grove overtredingen zonder gevolgen. In Noorwegen (’s werelds grootste zalmleverancier) stierf in 2023 elke zesde zalm vóór de slacht. De hoogste sterfte die het Noorse Veterinaire Instituut ooit mat. Toch dragen zo’n 42 procent van de Noorse kwekerijen nog steeds het ASC-keurmerk\, en bij GGN loopt dat zelfs op tot 90 procent. Het systeem faalt. Inspecties worden weken van tevoren aangekondigd; tijd genoeg om problemen te verdoezelen. Dat er dan genoeg tijd is om te “opruimen”\, bewees een kwekerij in Schotland: slechts uren vóór een aangekondigde inspectie door parlementariërs werden er in 2024 tonnen dode vissen afgevoerd. Die kwekerij had geen ASC-certificering\, maar dit incident toont aan dat het aankondigen van inspecties uitnodigt tot verdoezeling van problemen. Meerdere kwekerijen worden als groep gecertificeerd\, waardoor lang niet elke locatie individueel wordt gecontroleerd. En de traceerbaarheid stopt bij het verpakkingsbedrijf: foodwatch kocht diverse ASC- of GGN- gecertificeerde kweekzalmproducten en vroeg de supermarkten naar de herkomstboerderij. Dat lukte maar bij 37\,5% van de gevallen. Supermarkten en consumenten vertrouwen blind op deze keurmerken. Dat vertrouwen is niet gerechtvaardigd. Teken de petitie en stuur een bericht aan ASC en GGN: dit is niet goed genoeg! DESCRIPTION:Het Amerikaanse IT-bedrijf Kyndryl wil Solvinity overnemen\, het bedrijf dat de gegevens van DigiD beheert\, en experts waarschuwen: bij een overname kunnen jouw persoonsgegevens in handen komen van de Amerikaanse overheid. \nPersoonsgegevens in handen van de VS van Trump kunnen leiden tot serieuze gevolgen. Niet alleen kan Trump druk zetten op de Nederlandse overheid. Mensen worden aan de Amerikaanse grens al actief geweigerd op basis van wat er op hun telefoon staat\, en juist trans personen\, queer mensen\, wetenschappers en activisten lopen extra risico. Kyndryl kan straks worden gedwongen om jouw DigiD-gegevens af te staan aan een regering die deze informatie inzet tegen kritische stemmen. Stuur met één klik een mail naar het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken. Je doet daarin een beroep op je rechten onder de Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming (AVG): je vraagt inzage in jouw persoonsgegevens en wilt weten welke maatregelen het ministerie neemt om jouw privacy te beschermen bij deze overname. Hoe meer mensen deze mail sturen\, hoe duidelijker het signaal: onze gegevens horen niet onder Amerikaanse zeggenschap. Het ministerie moet dit verzoek binnen één maand beantwoorden\, voor iedereen die mailt. Reclame is geen onschuldige keuze-informatie. Bedrijven steken er niet voor niets zoveel geld in: het werkt. Kinderen zijn daar al helemaal niet tegen opgewassen. Het Verenigd Koninkrijk liet zien dat bijvoorbeeld een overdags verbod op junkfoodreclame echt verschil maakt. De voedingsindustrie boekt recordwinsten\, en de zorgkosten betalen wij met z’n allen. De overheid verzaakt haar plicht om de volksgezondheid te beschermen (Grondwet artikel 22). DESCRIPTION:The International Seabed Authority (ISA; French: Autorité internationale des fonds marins) is a Kingston\, Jamaica-based intergovernmental body of 171 Member States plus the European Union. \nIt was established under the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and its 1994 Agreement on Implementation. The ISA’s dual mission is to authorize and control the development of mineral related operations in the international seabed\, which is considered the “common heritage of all mankind“\, and to protect the ecosystem of the seabed\, ocean floor and subsoil in “The Area” beyond national jurisdiction. The ISA is responsible for safeguarding the international deep sea\, defined as waters below 200 meters (656 feet)\, where photosynthesis is hampered by inadequate light. Governing approximately half of the total area of the world’s oceans\, the ISA oversees activities that might threaten biological diversity and harm the marine environment. Since its inception in 1994\, the ISA has approved over two dozen ocean floor mining exploration contracts in the Atlantic\, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The majority of these contracts are for exploration in the Clarion–Clipperton zone between Hawaii and Mexico\, where polymetallic nodules contain copper\, cobalt and other minerals essential for powering electric batteries. To date\, the Authority has not authorized any commercial mining contracts as it continues to deliberate over regulations amid global calls for a moratorium on deep sea mining. Scientists and environmentalists warn that such mining could wreak havoc on the ocean\, a crucial carbon sink and home to rare and diverse species. Funded by UNCLOS members and mining contractors\, the Authority operates as an autonomous international organization with its own Assembly\, Council\, and Secretariat. DESCRIPTION:El Niño of Zuidelijke Oscillatie is een natuurverschijnsel in de Grote Oceaan. Langs de evenaar in de oostelijke Grote Oceaan komt het voor dat in de loop van sommige jaren een sterke opwarming van normaal koel zeewater plaatsvindt. \nDie opwarming van het zeewater heeft veel invloed op het weer in grote delen van de wereld\, vooral Noord- en Zuid-Amerika. Soms heeft het weerverschijnsel kleine invloed op het weer in Europa. La Niña is fysisch gezien het tegengestelde effect. Dit doet zich voor wanneer ongewoon koud zeewater bij de evenaar is gemeten. El Niño en La Niña zijn beide tekenen van het El Niño Southern Oscillation- of ENSO-effect. El Niño betekent in het Spaans De Kleine Jongen en refereert aan het ‘Kerstkind’ (aangezien dit fenomeen vooral rond die periode voorkomt)\, een benaming die vissers in Peru hebben gegeven. Eigenlijk bedoelen zij daarmee het warme water dat steeds in januari voor de kust van Peru verschijnt en dat daar een eind maakt aan het visseizoen. Onregelmatig\, maar toch gemiddeld eens in de drie tot zeven jaar\, leidt El Niño tot zo’n uitgebreide en sterke verwarming van het oceaanwater dat de hele atmosfeer daar gedurende langere tijd door wordt beïnvloed. In 2026 was in het voorjaar duidelijk dat de kans op El Niño groot was. De El Niño wint snel aan kracht. Voor de periode oktober tot en met december 2026 schat NOAA de kans op 69 procent dat de gebruikte ENSO-index een niveau bereikt dat hoger ligt dan bij eerdere El Niño’s in de historische meetreeks sinds 1950. Of de sterke El Nino van 2026 toevallig zo sterk is of dat klimaatverandering meespeelt is een actief onderzoeksonderwerp. Daar is het laatste woord nog niet over gezegd. Wel worden sommige effecten van El Niño door klimaatverandering versterkt. Zo versterkt klimaatverandering het contrast tussen natte en droge gebieden. Als een gebied bij een El Niño natter is dan normaal\, dan doet klimaatverandering daar een schepje bovenop. Ook is het aannemelijk dat gebieden die bij een El Niño droger zijn\, door klimaatverandering nog droger zijn. Alleen handhaaft Nederland nauwelijks. Daarom starten we vandaag een burgerinitiatief. Met 40.000 handtekeningen kan de de Tweede Kamer worden gedwongen om dit probleem op tafel te leggen. DESCRIPTION:De Pride Amsterdam is een meerdaags evenement met een homocultureel karakter en wordt sinds 1996 jaarlijks rondom het eerste weekend van augustus gehouden in de binnenstad van Amsterdam. \nLhbtiq+-organisaties in de stad organiseren een maand lang allerlei activiteiten. In 2026 is de Amsterdam Pride van 8 tot en met 29 juli. Hoogtepunt is de Canal Parade\, een bonte stoet van boten die op de eerste zaterdag van augustus door de grachten vaart. De tocht gaat van het Oosterdok\, via de Nieuwe Herengracht\, de Amstel en de Prinsengracht naar het Westerdok. Op 4 november 2022 werd bekendgemaakt dat de WorldPride in 2026 in Amsterdam georganiseerd wordt. De WorldPride werd voor het eerst in 2000 gevierd in Rome en vindt sinds 2012 elke twee à drie jaar plaats. Meer nog dan reguliere Pride-feesten staat de WorldPride garant voor veel bezoekers van over de hele wereld. Dikwijls is het het grootste lgbtiq-evenement van het jaar. De WorldPride in Amsterdam zal tevens de EuroPride van 2026 zijn\, waarmee het voor de derde keer is dat de EuroPride in de hoofdstad gehouden wordt. De WorldPride is met een paar dagen overlap direct ná de Amsterdam Pride: van 25 juli tot en met 8 augustus. SUMMARY:Kwaku Summer Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Het Kwaku Summer Festival (voorheen het Kwakoe Zomerfestival) wordt sinds 1975 bijna elk jaar tijdens een aantal weekeinden in de zomer gehouden in het Nelson Mandelapark in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. \nHet is van origine een Surinaams festival\, maar het heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een multicultureel festival. Het festival is ontstaan in 1975 als voetbaltoernooi\, georganiseerd door Stichting Jongeren Centrum Kwakoe tijdens het 700-jarig bestaan van Amsterdam. Het speelde zich aanvankelijk af op de sportvelden van SV Bijlmer\, op de locatie van het huidige Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In 1983 verhuisde het festival naar de huidige locatie in het Nelson Mandelapark dat in die tijd Bijlmerpark heette. Eind jaren negentig dienden zowel het jongerencentrum Kwakoe als de organisatie van het festival een vergunningaanvraag in. De festivalorganisatie Stichting Kwakoe Events onder leiding van Winston Kout kreeg de vergunning toegewezen en heeft het festival sindsdien georganiseerd. Van een louter Surinaams feest\, voor arme Surinamers uit de Bijlmerhoogbouw die geen geld hebben om op vakantie te gaan\, ontwikkelde het festival zich sindsdien tot een multicultureel festival dat zich ook op Antillianen en Afrikanen richt. DESCRIPTION:De Kermisfestival Tilburg / Tilburgse Kermis is de grootste kermis in de Benelux en wordt gehouden in de Noord-Brabantse plaats Tilburg. \nEr staan jaarlijks tussen de 230 en 240 attracties uit binnen- en buitenland\, in een 4\,5 kilometer lang lint door het centrum van de stad. De kermis trekt jaarlijks meer dan een miljoen bezoekers en is daarmee een van de best bezochte evenementen van Nederland. Hoewel de kermis met de tijd is meegegaan en dus voor het merendeel uit moderne attracties bestaat is er ook plaats ingeruimd voor een nostalgische kermis. De Tilburgse kermis duurt tien dagen: hij eindigt op de laatste zondag van juli en start dus negen dagen eerder op vrijdag. Ieder jaar treden op de themadagen bekende artiesten uit binnen- en buitenland op. Op de eerste zondag is het tussen 11:00 en 14:00 Blauwe zondag. Dit is een speciale ‘prikkelarme’ periode: geluiden en muziek van attracties worden dan gedempt. Op maandag is het Roze Maandag\, een evenement voor homo- en biseksuelen\, lesbiennes en transgenders (LHBT‘ers)\, na een eerste nichtenavond in 1990 werd dit al snel het drukstbezochte onderdeel van de Tilburgse Kermis. Rotation between regions and cultures is a consideration for selection and the location for the next session is chosen by the committee at the end of each session. The World Heritage Committee is a committee of the United Nations Educational\, Scientific and Cultural Organization that selects the sites to be listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites\, including the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger\, defines the use of the World Heritage Fund and allocates financial assistance upon requests from States Parties. It comprises representatives from 21 state parties that are elected by the General Assembly of States Parties for a four-year term. These parties vote on decisions and proposals related to the World Heritage Convention and World Heritage List. According to the World Heritage Convention\, a committee member’s term of office is six years. Since 1974\, Comic-Con has bestowed its annual Inkpot Award on guests and persons of interest in the popular arts industries\, as well as on members of Comic-Con’s board of directors and the Convention committee. It is also the home of the Will Eisner Awards. Originally showcasing primarily comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film\, television\, and similar popular arts\, the convention has since included a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres\, including horror\, Western animation\, anime\, comics\, manga\, toys\, collectible card games\, video games\, webcomics\, and fantasy novels. DESCRIPTION:The International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014 as a Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman—an Australian man serving a 20-year sentence in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men from an attack by fascist football hooligans. \nHappily\, Palfreeman has been granted parole after serving 11 years of his sentence\, but there are still hundreds of others who remain imprisoned for standing up against fascism and hate. That’s why July 25th is so important; the International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners aims to break down the borders and build an international response against fascism. By having an event\, raising money\, or dedicating an action to these comrades\, we can simultaneously strengthen our local movements by ensuring that those who have acted to protect our communities against the fascist threat are never forgotten\, as well as create the links of a powerful international solidarity which can transcend both the prison and the border wall. On July 25th we call on antifascists worldwide to act in solidarity with antifascist prisoners—the comrades who have been behind bars for many years\, the friends who have just begun their sentences\, the mates still awaiting trial—because they are in there for us\, and so we must be out here for them. \nLinks:\nThe International Day of Solidarity With Antifascist Prisoners

DESCRIPTION:Judges and other judicial officers such as magistrates\, court commissioners\, and arbitrators shoulder a profound responsibility – upholding the rule of law\, protecting rights\, and ensuring that justice is impartial and fair. \nBut behind the bench\, many judges struggle in silence. Long hours\, isolation\, and the emotional toll of decision-making can affect their well-being\, ultimately influencing the quality of justice. Corruption thrives where integrity falters. A judiciary under stress is more vulnerable to external influence\, conflicts of interest\, and erosion of public confidence. The United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) \, especially Article 11\, acknowledges this danger and calls for safeguarding the independence and integrity of the judiciary. Judicial well-being is a prerequisite for judicial independence\, integrity\, and efficiency. When judges are supported\, they are better equipped to resist undue influence\, uphold ethical standards\, and deliver justice fairly and competently. The path to international recognition began with the Regional Judicial Conference on Integrity and Judicial Well-being\, held in Nauru in July 2024. Organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in partnership with the Nauru Judiciary\, the gathering brought together nearly twenty judicial leaders and global experts to confront a shared concern: judges around the world are under pressure\, often without the resources or acknowledgment they need. On 25 July 2024\, they adopted the Nauru Declaration on Judicial Well-being which recognizes that the health and well-being of judges is critical to ensuring judicial integrity\, independence\, and the quality of justice delivered to the public. \nLinks:\nDay on Judicial Well-being
