DESCRIPTION:Eerder werd besloten om overheidsgeld voor dierproeven\, met name op apen\, af te bouwen en te investeren in proefdiervrije innovaties. \nMaar die koers wordt nu deels teruggedraaid: onlangs heeft de Tweede Kamer een zorgwekkende stap gezet. Zo is zelfs besloten dat dierproeven op apen weer mogelijk blijven\, terwijl de samenleving en wetenschap juist richting alternatieven bewegen. Dit is niet alleen een ethische stap achteruit\, maar ook een gemiste kans voor vooruitgang. De feiten zijn duidelijk: \n•       In Nederland worden jaarlijks nog steeds honderdduizenden dierproeven uitgevoerd.\n•       De overheid gaf eerder al tientallen miljoenen euro’s per jaar uit aan dierproeven.\n•       Daartegenover stond jarenlang slechts een fractie voor proefdiervrije innovaties\, soms maar rond de €1\,3 miljoen per jaar. \nMet andere woorden: we blijven massaal investeren in een verouderd systeem\, terwijl betere alternatieven al bestaan. En die alternatieven zijn er wél. Denk aan: \n•       organ-on-a-chip technologie\n•       gekweekte menselijke weefsels en organoïden\n•       geavanceerde computermodellen en AI \nDeze methoden zijn vaak sneller\, betrouwbaarder en direct relevanter voor de mens dan dierproeven. Organisaties zoals Proefdiervrij laten al jaren zien dat de toekomst proefdiervrij is\, als we daar serieus in investeren. Sterker nog: er lag al een duidelijke politieke richting. Er was een plan om subsidies voor dierproeven af te bouwen en volledig te verschuiven naar proefdiervrije innovaties richting 2030. Dat pad wordt nu ondermijnd. Dit is niet uit te leggen. Niet aan de wetenschap. Niet aan de belastingbetaler. En al helemaal niet aan de dieren die hier de prijs voor betalen. Daarom de eisen: \n•       Dat overheidsgeld niet langer naar dierproeven gaat\, maar volledig naar proefdiervrije innovaties\n•       Dat eerdere besluiten om dierproeven af te bouwen worden nageleefd\n•       Transparantie over waar publiek geld naartoe gaat\n•       Een duidelijke deadline voor het uitfaseren van dierproeven \nDe toekomst van wetenschap is mensgericht\, innovatief en proefdiervrij.\nAlles daaronder is simpelweg achterhaald. Teken deze petitie en laat zien dat Nederland vooruit wil\, niet terug. \n1.      Onnodig dierenleed: in Nederland worden jaarlijks nog steeds honderdduizenden dierproeven uitgevoerd. Zij kwam voor het eerst echt op in de 6e eeuw voor de Gregoriaanse jaartelling. Een beoefenaar van de filosofie wordt een filosoof of wijsgeer genoemd. In het dagelijks spraakgebruik wordt de term filosofie gebruikt om elke vorm van wijsheid of levensbeschouwing aan te duiden (zoals in “iemands filosofie”) of iemands uitgangspunten (zoals in “het sluit niet aan op de filosofie achter dit plan”). Kleine dieren\, insecten en vogels vinden hier voedsel en schuilplaatsen. Een tuin vol leven is niet alleen leuk om naar te kijken\, maar ook nuttig. Bijen helpen bij de bestuiving van planten. Vogels\, egels en allerlei insecten helpen je tuin gezond en vrij van plagen te houden. Groene tuinen zijn belangrijk met het oog op klimaatadaptatie: het omgaan met de gevolgen van klimaatverandering\, zoals hitte\, droogte en wateroverlast. In periodes van hitte bieden bomen en planten natuurlijke schaduw en verkoeling. In periodes van veel regen of extreme buien\, kan regenwater in een groene tuin beter wegzakken dan in een volledig betegelde tuin. Bladluizen\, slakken en andere beestjes horen bij de natuur. Maar hoe voorkom je dat ze in jouw tuin uitgroeien tot een plaag? Zorg dat je planten gezond en sterk zijn\, dan zijn ze minder vatbaar voor ziekten en plagen. Ook kun je de natuurlijke vijanden van plagen uitnodigen en zorgen dat de beestjes jouw tuin geen aantrekkelijke plek vinden. DESCRIPTION:Een 1 aprilgrap (ook wel aprilgrap of aprilvis genoemd) is een traditie waarbij mensen elkaar op 1 april voor de gek proberen te houden. \nIn Frankrijk spreekt men van poisson d’avril (Aprilvis). In Engelstalige landen wordt de dag April Fools’ Day (April dwazendag) genoemd\, en de Russen hebben het over День Дурака (Den Doeraka\, dag van de dommerik). In sommige Vlaamse streken spreekt men over verzenderke(n)sdag\, de dag waarop je iedereen tracht ergens heen te zenden om ze beet te nemen. Door de strijd tegen fake news worden 1 aprilgrappen wereldwijd minder populair\, onder andere de VRT heeft aangegeven dit niet meer te doen. Uit sommige bronnen blijkt dat de bijzondere betekenis van 1 april ontstaan is bij de Franse wijziging naar de gregoriaanse kalender\, zoals opgedragen door Paus Gregorius XIII in 1582. Voor die tijd werd Nieuwjaar gevierd van 25 maart tot 1 april. Met de verandering van het kalendersysteem werd Nieuwjaar verplaatst naar 1 januari. Mensen die dit vergaten of die het nieuwe kalendersysteem weigerden te aanvaarden\, kregen uitnodigingen voor niet-gehouden feestjes\, grappige presentjes enzovoort. Deze verklaring is echter onwaarschijnlijk: de 1 aprilgrap wordt namelijk al eerder vermeld in een Franse bron uit 1508\, dus ruim voor die tijd. De eerste vermelding in een Nederlandstalige bron dateert uit ca. 1560 te Brugge\, een gedicht van de rederijker Eduard de Dene. Het is een parodie op ‘1 april’ waarin een knecht het plan van zijn heer om hem te verzenden\, doorziet. De geschiedenis gaat dus ten minste terug tot het begin van de zestiende eeuw. \nDe wijde verspreiding van het verschijnsel wijst echter op een oudere oorsprong. De 1 aprilgrap is volgens een andere theorie ontstaan uit een vroeger middeleeuws festival: het feest van de zotten. La fête des fous was vooral in Frankrijk van de 5e tot de 16e eeuw erg populair. Het werd gevierd omstreeks 1 januari door het kiezen van een valse paus of bisschop en ging gepaard met allerlei rituelen en festiviteiten waarbij de geestelijkheid werd geparodieerd. Aan de basis hiervan lagen dan weer naar alle waarschijnlijkheid vroegere heidense saturnalia. Er zijn verklaringen gezocht in het wisselvallige aprilweer en parallellen gezien met de Germaanse mythologie (Loki) en met de Bijbelse geschiedenis. In verschillende landen zijn ook wel nationale gebeurtenissen aangevoerd als begin van de traditie. Deze verklaringen\, die waarschijnlijk ooit zelf als aprilgrap zijn verzonnen\, leiden soms tot op de dag van vandaag een hardnekkig leven. Zo denkt men in Nederland nog vaak dat de grappenmakerij begonnen is met de inname van Den Briel door de watergeuzen op 1 april 1572\, zoals blijkt uit een bekend gezegde: Op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril. Het feit dat ook buiten Nederland 1 aprilgrappen worden gemaakt\, wordt daarbij over het hoofd gezien. 1 aprilgrappen worden vaak al eind maart per persbericht bekendgemaakt. \nLinks:\nWaar komen 1 aprilgrappen vandaan? \nWaarom maken we grappen op 1 april? \nHoe is 1 april ontstaan?

DESCRIPTION:International Transgender Day of Visibility (often referred to as TDOV or Trans Day of Visibility) is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide\, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. \nThe event was created by transgender activist Rachel Crandall of Michigan in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBTQ+ recognition of transgender people\, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered day was the Transgender Day of Remembrance\, which mourned the murders of transgender people\, but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community. The first International Transgender Day of Visibility was held on March 31\, 2009. It has since been spearheaded by the U.S.-based youth advocacy organization Trans Student Educational Resources. DESCRIPTION:Shortly after the outbreak of the Iran war on 28 February 2026\, fuel prices at petrol stations across the EU rose steeply\, the analysis ‘Excess Oil Profits in Times of War‘ shows that this increase cannot be explained by higher crude oil prices alone. \nIn addition\, the oil companies significantly widened their profit margins\, thereby generating excess profits. During the first three weeks of the war\, the average excess profits across all 27 EU member states amounted to €81.4 million per day. The largest share of these excess profits was attributable to diesel fuel. Margins were expanded predominantly in countries with high purchasing power: the Netherlands\, Sweden\, Denmark\, Austria and Germany. At the same time\, there were a number of mostly smaller markets in which margins actually shrank. Liberties’ report represents the most in-depth reporting exercise carried out to date by a civil society network to map developments in a wide range of areas connected to the rule of law in the EU. DESCRIPTION:On 14 December 2022\, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution at its seventy-seventh session to proclaim 30 March as International Day of Zero Waste\, to be observed annually. \nTürkiye\, with 105 other countries\, put forward the resolution\, following other high-level decisions focused on pollution\, such as the UN Environment Assembly resolution “End plastic pollution: towards an internationally legally binding instrument”. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) jointly facilitate the observance of International Day of Zero Waste. As part of this campaign\, Member States\, organizations of the United Nations system\, civil society\, the private sector\, academia\, women\, youth and other stakeholders are invited to engage in activities aimed at raising awareness of national\, subnational\, regional and local zero-waste initiatives and their contribution to achieving sustainable development. Promoting zero-waste initiatives through this international day can help advance all the goals and targets in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development\, including Sustainable Development Goal 11 and Sustainable Development Goal 12. These goals address all forms of waste\, including food loss and waste\, natural resource extraction and electronic waste. \n2026 Theme: Zero Waste Starts on Your Plate. For this year’s International Day of Zero Waste\, the focus is on food – what we eat\, what we waste\, and how we can move towards a more circular future. The world wastes food on a staggering scale. DESCRIPTION:Zomertijd (in België ook vaak zomeruur) is de tijd die gedurende de zomermaanden wordt aangehouden door de klok een uur vooruit te zetten\, dit wil zeggen de klok een uur voor te laten lopen op de standaardtijd (die in dit verband ook wel wintertijd genoemd wordt).\n\nOngeveer 70 landen verzetten twee keer per jaar de klok. In de Europese Unie loopt de zomertijd van de laatste zondag van maart tot de laatste zondag van oktober. Ezelsbruggetje: in het VOORjaar gaat de klok een uur VOORuit. In de zomer komt de zon zo vroeg op dat het al licht is terwijl de meeste mensen nog slapen. Door de klok te verzetten lijkt de zon later op te komen en weer onder te gaan. Hierdoor is het ’s morgens langer donker en blijft het ’s avonds juist langer licht. De periode van daglicht komt zo beter overeen met de periode waarin de meeste mensen wakker zijn. De gedachte achter zomertijd is dat men zo zou kunnen bezuinigen op (elektrische) verlichting. DESCRIPTION:What began in 2025 as a single day of defiance has become sustained resistance to tyranny: the October 18th No Tyrants / No Kings protests brought together more than 7 million people worldwide\, and our peaceful movement is bigger than ever. \nOn No Kings Day 2026 : In America\, we have No Kings\, No Tyrants protesters stand in opposition to the US administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence as it attacks immigrant communities\, threatens allies\, suppresses free speech\, and blatantly disregards both the US Constitution and international law. We are united once again to remind the world: we have the power and are claiming it together. The previous No Tyrants protests last year gathered hundreds of people outside the US Consulate in Amsterdam. US citizens abroad were joined by Dutch and international allies—a show of solidarity that proved the strength of our movement. Now\, we’re holding our third international No Tyrants protest\, because this isn’t about one day\, it’s about building a movement that lasts. On March 28th\, rise up\, take to the streets\, and say it loud: no tyrants in the USA! We’re not watching history happen—we’re making it. Please note this event is being held in Amsterdam\, Netherlands\, outside the US Consulate building at Museumplein 19. A core principle behind all of our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. All participants are expected to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events.
