DESCRIPTION:(Vrijwilligers)werk en een nuttige bijdrage leveren aan de maatschappij is goed en gezond; maar soms lukt het\, ondanks alle wil van de wereld\, niet meer om voldoende mee te draaien in de maatschappij. \nDe overheid wil flink bezuinigen op arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkeringen. Deze uitkeringen zullen met 20% worden verlaagd. Ook degenen die nu al arbeidsongeschikt zijn. En ook de groep arbeidsongeschikten die zo ernstig ziek is dat zij nooit meer kúnnen en zúllen werken. Zij behoren tot de mensen met een IVA uitkering (volledig en duurzaam arbeidsongeschikt). Mensen die te horen hebben gekregen nooit meer beter te zullen worden: uitgezaaide kanker\, verslechterende spier-of zenuwaandoeningen zoals ALS\, Parkinson of een volledige verlamming. Het verzoek luidt: op humanitaire gronden voorkomen dat de meest kwetsbaren (IVA) inkomen verliezen en in financiële problemen komen. Het ‘omzien naar elkaar’ en ‘bestaanszekerheid’ dreigt in het gedrang te komen. Mensen komen flink in de financiële problemen\, direct leidend tot verlies van hun (soms aangepaste) woning\, sociale- en/of mantelzorg netwerk. Deze plannen zullen zonder uitzondering een forse aanslag vormen op hun toch al verminderde kwaliteit van leven. Dit alles bovenop het feit dat leven met beperkingen ten gevolge van ernstige ziekte al genoeg uitdagingen\, problemen en zorgen oplevert. Bovendien is zelfs een ‘hoge’ arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering geen riant inkomen meer. Vanwege nadelige belastingen (verlies van recht op kortingen en toeslagen) is het inkomen veelal net voldoende voor de basisbehoeften. De voorgenomen bezuinigingen zet mensen letterlijk op straat! Mensen met een IVA-uitkering is al heel veel afgenomen: gezondheid\, baan\, sociale contacten. Bezuinigen op het inkomen van zieken die écht nooit meer kunnen werken\, is moreel onjuist. Daarnaast werd de verlaging van deze uitkeringen met 20% op deze manier in geen enkel verkiezingsprogramma genoemd; enkel een ‘activerender stelsel’. Ook hadden de mensen met een huidige IVA-uitkering deze bezuinigingen op geen enkele manier kunnen voorzien. (Extra) verzekeren tegen arbeidsongeschiktheid kan niet meer als iemand al eenmaal ziek en/of arbeidsongeschikt is. DESCRIPTION:Op de Dag van de Roma worden de rijke culturele erfenis en tradities van de Roma en hun bijdragen aan Europa en de Verenigde Staten erkend. \nDe datum 8 april werd uitgeroepen tot de internationale Romadag omdat het eerste Internationaal Romani Congres\, een serie van congressen voor discussie onder Roma wereldwijd\, werd gehouden op 8 april 1971 in Londen. Aan dit congres namen 23 vertegenwoordigers uit 9 landen deel: Tsjecho-Slowakije\, Finland\, Frankrijk\, Groot-Brittannië\, Hongarije\, Ierland\, Spanje en Joegoslavië. Tijdens het eerste congres werd de in 1933 ontworpen vlag van de Roma officieel erkend en werd het lied Djelem\, djelem uitgeroepen tot volkslied van de Roma. Het is een dag waarop aandacht wordt gegeven aan hun leefsituatie. Roma zijn de meest achtergestelde etnische groep van Europa. In heel Europa worden de fundamentele rechten van de Roma nog steeds regelmatig geschonden. Herhaaldelijke gevallen van racistisch geweld en haatzaaierij tegen Roma worden regelmatig gemeld. Roma worden ook gediscrimineerd bij toegang tot werk\, onderwijs\, gezondheidszorg en openbare en sociale diensten. Het meest alarmerende zijn de schendingen van de huisvestingsrechten van de Roma in Europa. De schendingen beperken zich niet alleen tot geen toegang hebben tot huisvesting. Het gaat ook over gedwongen uitzetting en systemische vernietiging van Romeinse nederzettingen. Feit blijft dat het recht op behoorlijke huisvesting ook een fundamenteel mensenrecht is. In Nederland wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen Sinti en Roma\, het verschil heeft te maken met datum van vestiging. Met Roma wordt bedoeld de groep mensen die voornamelijk uit Oost-Europa komen en zich in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw in Nederland vestigden. DESCRIPTION:The report ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures‘ reveals shocking scale of hidden global microplastic exposure. \nThe report highlights the vast scale of microplastic exposure in daily life in what experts are calling a “microplastic storm” from overlooked and emerging sources. Funded by Plastic Soup Foundation and The Flotilla Foundation\, ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures’\, the first-of-its-kind report draws on over 350 peer-reviewed studies and concludes that human exposure is continuous and global. The findings lay bare an exposure crisis through mapping microplastic release across five categories of everyday life: outdoor sources\, indoor environments\, children’s products\, healthcare and personal care\, and food and drink. By highlighting a continuous flow of particles generated from overlooked and emerging sources the report reframes the plastics crisis as a systemic exposure issue embedded across modern society. Among the report’s most striking findings is evidence that emerging climate interventions could make microplastic exposure significantly worse. For example\, stratospheric aerosol injection – a form of solar geoengineering being advanced by countries including the United Kingdom and United States – involves dispersing vast quantities of particles high into the atmosphere. Multiple patents already exist describing the release of particles including micro sized polymeric particles at altitudes of up to 20 km in the atmosphere\, creating a potentially ‘tera scale’ source of intentionally added airborne microplastics and fallout. The research identifies that rainfall already contains microplastics with wear and tear from car tires and synthetic textiles and clothing contributing to atmospheric pollution. In hospitals\, plastic particles may be introduced into the body via devices and treatments\, with microplastic fallout in operating rooms recorded at up to 9\,258 particles per square meter during a single shift. Cardiac catheters\, silicone breast implants\, orthopedic implants or intravenous fluid all cited as sources with the potential of inadvertently dosing patients with microplastics. Startlingly\, premature babies fed intravenously in neonatal units are estimated to receive up to 115 microplastic particles over a 72-hour feeding period from the infusion circuits alone. Baby formula intake exposes babies to microplastics at levels from <1 to 17 microplastics per gram formula with packaging types playing a role in releasing the observed microplastics. Children’s products are also of significant concern – building bricks\, baby play mats and other products for children releasing PET\, polypropylene\, polyethylene and PVC into a child’s living environment. As children naturally ingest more settled dust during play and breathe in more air per kilogram bodyweight\, their exposure is proportionally higher than adults. Another unexpected indoor exposure is via paint. Plastic is the main component of many paint products and such paint emit microplastics when it wears down or when old layers are scraped off. The day often meant a day off from school for Federation youth. On Earth\, children were given a day off from school\, a fact that Captain Kathryn Janeway remembered was really the only way it was celebrated. \nNaomi Wildman and Neelix planned the 315th observation of the event aboard the USS Voyager. The festivities included Zefram Cochrane’s favorite food\, cheese pierogies\, and rock and roll music on Tom Paris’s jukebox. At Neelix’s insistence\, Tuvok gave the Vulcan salute while reciting the greeting given by the Vulcans during first contact: “Live long and prosper.” He did not see the point of it\, but everyone in attendance applauded. DESCRIPTION:On 8 December 2005\, the General Assembly declared that 4 April of each year shall be observed as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. \nIt called for continued efforts by States\, with the assistance of the United Nations and relevant organizations\, to foster the establishment and development of national mine-action capacities in countries where mines and explosive remnants of war constitute a serious threat to the safety\, health and lives of the civilian population\, or an impediment to social and economic development at the national and local levels. Established in 1997\, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to eliminate the threat posed by mines\, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices by coordinating United Nations mine action\, leading operational responses at the country level\, and in support of peace operations\, as well as through the development of standards\, policies and norms. \nIn 2026\, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action will be commemorated under the theme “Invest in Peace; Invest in Mine Action.” This theme draws out the foundational importance of lands being cleared from explosive threats and communities living in the absence of fear from these indiscriminate weapons for peace to be able to prosper. Mines\, explosive remnants of war\, and improvised explosive devices continue to cause death and injury\, especially in situations of armed conflict. On average\, one person is killed or injured by such explosive device every hour. Many children are among the victims. The use of improvised explosive devices has expanded\, terrorizing civilians and threatening humanitarian actors and United Nations missions and personnel. Mine action saves lives\, provides security\, restores dignity\, unlocks land for productive use\, and creates the conditions for long-term stability. It transforms hazardous land into safe\, productive spaces. It enables humanitarian access\, facilitates development\, supports stabilization efforts\, and lays the groundwork for durable peace. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van recente uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. DESCRIPTION:Artemis II is a planned lunar spaceflight mission under the Artemis program\, led by NASA. It is intended to be the second flight of the Space Launch System (SLS)\, and is both the first crewed mission of the Orion spacecraft and the first crewed mission to the vicinity of the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. \nLaunch is scheduled for no earlier than April\, 2026. The 10-day mission will carry NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman\, Victor Glover\, and Christina Koch\, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen\, on a free-return trajectory around the Moon and back to Earth. Glover will become the first person of color\, Koch the first woman\, and Hansen the first non-American to travel to the Moon. The flight will take the crew farther from Earth than any previous human mission before reentering Earth’s atmosphere at a record speed of approximately 40\,000 km/h. Artemis II was originally designated Exploration Mission-2 (EM-2) and was initially intended to support the now-canceled Asteroid Redirect Mission. Its objectives were revised following the establishment of the Artemis program. The Artemis II mission plan is to send four astronauts in the first crewed Orion spacecraft into a lunar flyby using the Block 1 variant of the Space Launch System. The mission profile is a multi-trans-lunar injection (MTLI)\, or multiple departure burns\, and includes a free-return trajectory from the Moon. The Orion spacecraft will be sent to a high Earth orbit with a period of roughly 24 hours. During this time the crew will perform various checkouts of the spacecraft’s life support systems as well as an in-space rendezvous and proximity operations demonstration using the spent Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) as a target. When Orion reaches perigee once again\, it will fire its main engine to complete the TLI maneuver\, which will send it onto a lunar free-return trajectory\, before returning to Earth. Artemis II will test and demonstrate optical communications to and from Earth using the Orion Artemis II Optical Communications System (O2O). The O2O hardware will be integrated into the Orion spacecraft and includes an optical module (a 100 mm telescope and two gimbals)\, a modem and control electronics. O2O will communicate with ground stations in California and New Mexico. The test device will send data to Earth with a downlink rate of up to 260 megabits per second. \nNASA concluded a wet dress rehearsal for the agency’s Artemis II test flight early Tuesday morning February 3\, 2026\, successfully loading cryogenic propellant into the SLS (Space Launch System) tanks\, sending a team out to the launch pad to closeout Orion\, and safely draining the rocket. The wet dress rehearsal was a prelaunch test to fuel the rocket\, designed to identify any issues and resolve them before attempting a launch. Engineers pushed through several challenges during the two-day test and met many of the planned objectives. To allow teams to review data and conduct a second wet dress rehearsal. NASA will roll the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft for Artemis II off the launch pad at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida as soon as Tuesday\, Feb. 24. On Feb. 21\, managers decided to remove recently installed platforms before high winds descend on the Space Coast\, which poised teams for rollback while discussions about the issue were ongoing. Returning to the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy is required to determine the cause of the issue and fix it. Once NASA’s Artemis II SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft arrived at the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) Feb. 25\, technicians immediately began addressing why the flow of helium to the SLS upper stage was interrupted as engineers were reconfiguring the rocket following a successful wet dress rehearsal on Feb. 21. To make the repairs\, teams are installing two sets of internal access platforms inside the launch vehicle stage adapter and must remove thermal blankets that cover the area they are interested in – a point on the rocket’s interim cryogenic propulsion system\, or upper stage. The area provides connections for multiple umbilicals\, including tubing used to fill the upper stage with helium. Helium is used to maintain proper environmental conditions\, and to pressurize the stage for flight. \nOn Friday\, March 20\, NASA’s Artemis II SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft arrived at Launch Pad 39B after an 11-hour journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s crawler-transporter 2 began its  6 km trek with the integrated SLS and Orion stacked on top of the mobile launcher at 18:20 CEST. The crawler carried the Moon rocket and spacecraft slowly and steadily toward the pad. At Pad 39B\, NASA teams were gearing up for the final stretch of prelaunch preparations ahead of launch as soon as Thursday\, April 2 at 00:24 CEST. The early April launch window includes opportunities through Monday\, April 6. NASA’s SLS rocket lifted off at 00:35 CEST Wednesday April 2 sending four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft on a planned test flight around the Moon and back. After the mission management team polled “Go” Thursday\, NASA’s Orion spacecraft fired its main engine for five minutes and 50 seconds beginning April 3 at 01:49 CEST\, to successfully complete the translunar injection (TLI) burn\, sending the crew in Orion out of Earth orbit and on a trajectory toward the Moon. On April 7\, the Artemis II mission wrapped up a seven-hour lunar flyby\, marking humanity’s first return to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972 and capturing images of the lunar far side. The momentous day began at 01:02:51 CEST as the astronauts set the record for the farthest distance from Earth traveled by any human. During a planned 40-minute loss of signal as Orion passed behind the Moon\, the spacecraft and its crew made their closest approach at 01:00:46 CEST\, flying at about 6544 kilometer above the surface. Two minutes later\, the crew reached the mission’s maximum distance from Earth at 406.771 km\, setting a new record for human spaceflight. DESCRIPTION:International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) is a yearly event sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)\, an international non-profit organization\, founded in 1967\, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday\, April 2. \nActivities include writing competitions\, announcements of book awards and events with authors of children’s literature. Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD. It decides upon a theme and invites a prominent author from the host country to write a message to the children of the world and a well-known illustrator to design a poster. These materials are used in different ways to promote books and reading. Many IBBY Sections promote ICBD through the media and organize activities in schools and public libraries.
