DESCRIPTION:Op 11 april\, de geboortedag van Sir James Parkinson\, wordt elk jaar Wereld Parkinson dag gehouden; wereldwijd wordt dan aandacht gevraagd voor de ziekte van Parkinson\, ook wordt de behoefte aan onderzoek en specialisten op het gebied van deze ziekte onder de aandacht gebracht. \nDe ziekte van Parkinson is een degeneratieve ziekte in het centraal zenuwstelsel waarbij zenuwcellen langzaam afsterven (“degenereren”). Dit leidt in eerste plaats tot stoornissen in de beweging: parkinson wordt daarom als bewegingsstoornis beschouwd. De symptomen komen langzaam op en worden naarmate de ziekte vordert ernstiger. In de beginfase van de ziekte bestaan de voornaamste symptomen uit schudden\, spasmen\, traagheid in beweging en moeite met lopen. Daarnaast kunnen ook gedrags- en cognitieve problemen voorkomen. In latere stadia is er een verhoogde kans op dementie. Ruim één derde van de parkinsonpatiënten lijdt aan depressie. De kenmerkende verschijnselen samen worden aangeduid met de naam parkinsonisme. De oorzaak van de ziekte van Parkinson is doorgaans onbekend. De ziekte ontstaat waarschijnlijk vanwege een combinatie van genetische en omgevingsfactoren. Familieleden van patiënten hebben een grotere kans om de ziekte ook te krijgen. Mensen die in aanraking zijn gekomen met bepaalde pesticiden en mensen die eerder hoofdletsel hebben opgelopen\, lopen meer risico de ziekte te ontwikkelen\, terwijl rokers en mensen die koffie of thee drinken minder risico lopen. Er is geen middel waarmee parkinson kan worden genezen. The date of 10th April has no recognised international day and we propose this date for the following reason: On 10 April 1815 Gunung (Mount) Tambora in Indonesia erupted and generated massive pyroclastic flows and tsunami that instantly killed 10\,000 locals\, who were unaware of the danger. The massive eruption injected huge amounts of aerosols into the Earth’s stratosphere\, causing a global haze which reflected back the incoming sunlight and cooled our planet by half a degree (celsius). This affected the planet’s climate for three years\, causing crop failure and famine\, resulting in up to 60\,000 more human deaths globally – as well as affecting animals\, fauna and agriculture. DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van recente uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. The global IoT Day was started by the #IoT Council in 2010\, with the goal to brainstorm on the emerging IoT Topics and further the discourse in EU & abroad. IoT Day in April has since been held annually and with a wide range of participants\, growing to hundreds of locations across the world\, with a variety of gatherings in places ranging from conference halls\, online meetings\, bars and cafes\, Meetups\, classrooms and parks. The point of the IoTDay exchanges is to bring IoT/AI Trends out into the open to and with citizens and industry experts to collaborate on developments across borders. Dat schrijft de Ecologische Autoriteit in het ‘Advies ecologische onderbouwing Beleidskader Natuur Waddenzee’ aan het ministerie van Landbouw\, Visserij\, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur (LVVN). De Waddenzee is het grootste aaneengesloten intergetijdengebied ter wereld en heeft een cruciale functie voor miljoenen vogels en vissen. Maar de Waddenzeenatuur verslechtert al jarenlang en het lukt niet om het tij te keren. Daarom stelt het ministerie van LVVN een nieuw beleidskader op voor de Waddenzee. Dit beleidskader moet inzicht bieden in hoe de natuur kan herstellen en voor hoeveel menselijke activiteiten\, zoals visserij\, scheepvaart\, baggerwerkzaamheden\, recreatie\, gas-\, zout- en zandwinning en militaire oefeningen\, er in de Waddenzee plaats is zonder natuurschade te veroorzaken. In 2016 werd een herziene schijf geïntroduceerd. De Schijf van Vijf is een voorlichtingsmodel van het Voedingscentrum. De Schijf van Vijf is cirkelvormig. DESCRIPTION:(Vrijwilligers)werk en een nuttige bijdrage leveren aan de maatschappij is goed en gezond; maar soms lukt het\, ondanks alle wil van de wereld\, niet meer om voldoende mee te draaien in de maatschappij. \nDe overheid wil flink bezuinigen op arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkeringen. Deze uitkeringen zullen met 20% worden verlaagd. Ook degenen die nu al arbeidsongeschikt zijn. En ook de groep arbeidsongeschikten die zo ernstig ziek is dat zij nooit meer kúnnen en zúllen werken. Zij behoren tot de mensen met een IVA uitkering (volledig en duurzaam arbeidsongeschikt). Mensen die te horen hebben gekregen nooit meer beter te zullen worden: uitgezaaide kanker\, verslechterende spier-of zenuwaandoeningen zoals ALS\, Parkinson of een volledige verlamming. Het verzoek luidt: op humanitaire gronden voorkomen dat de meest kwetsbaren (IVA) inkomen verliezen en in financiële problemen komen. Het ‘omzien naar elkaar’ en ‘bestaanszekerheid’ dreigt in het gedrang te komen. Mensen komen flink in de financiële problemen\, direct leidend tot verlies van hun (soms aangepaste) woning\, sociale- en/of mantelzorg netwerk. Deze plannen zullen zonder uitzondering een forse aanslag vormen op hun toch al verminderde kwaliteit van leven. Dit alles bovenop het feit dat leven met beperkingen ten gevolge van ernstige ziekte al genoeg uitdagingen\, problemen en zorgen oplevert. Bovendien is zelfs een ‘hoge’ arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering geen riant inkomen meer. Vanwege nadelige belastingen (verlies van recht op kortingen en toeslagen) is het inkomen veelal net voldoende voor de basisbehoeften. De voorgenomen bezuinigingen zet mensen letterlijk op straat! Mensen met een IVA-uitkering is al heel veel afgenomen: gezondheid\, baan\, sociale contacten. Bezuinigen op het inkomen van zieken die écht nooit meer kunnen werken\, is moreel onjuist. DESCRIPTION:Op de Dag van de Roma worden de rijke culturele erfenis en tradities van de Roma en hun bijdragen aan Europa en de Verenigde Staten erkend. \nDe datum 8 april werd uitgeroepen tot de internationale Romadag omdat het eerste Internationaal Romani Congres\, een serie van congressen voor discussie onder Roma wereldwijd\, werd gehouden op 8 april 1971 in Londen. Aan dit congres namen 23 vertegenwoordigers uit 9 landen deel: Tsjecho-Slowakije\, Finland\, Frankrijk\, Groot-Brittannië\, Hongarije\, Ierland\, Spanje en Joegoslavië. Tijdens het eerste congres werd de in 1933 ontworpen vlag van de Roma officieel erkend en werd het lied Djelem\, djelem uitgeroepen tot volkslied van de Roma. Het is een dag waarop aandacht wordt gegeven aan hun leefsituatie. Roma zijn de meest achtergestelde etnische groep van Europa. In heel Europa worden de fundamentele rechten van de Roma nog steeds regelmatig geschonden. Herhaaldelijke gevallen van racistisch geweld en haatzaaierij tegen Roma worden regelmatig gemeld. Roma worden ook gediscrimineerd bij toegang tot werk\, onderwijs\, gezondheidszorg en openbare en sociale diensten. Het meest alarmerende zijn de schendingen van de huisvestingsrechten van de Roma in Europa. De schendingen beperken zich niet alleen tot geen toegang hebben tot huisvesting. Het gaat ook over gedwongen uitzetting en systemische vernietiging van Romeinse nederzettingen. Feit blijft dat het recht op behoorlijke huisvesting ook een fundamenteel mensenrecht is. In Nederland wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen Sinti en Roma\, het verschil heeft te maken met datum van vestiging. Met Roma wordt bedoeld de groep mensen die voornamelijk uit Oost-Europa komen en zich in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw in Nederland vestigden. DESCRIPTION:The report ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures‘ reveals shocking scale of hidden global microplastic exposure. \nThe report highlights the vast scale of microplastic exposure in daily life in what experts are calling a “microplastic storm” from overlooked and emerging sources. Funded by Plastic Soup Foundation and The Flotilla Foundation\, ‘Exploring Everyday Microplastic Exposures’\, the first-of-its-kind report draws on over 350 peer-reviewed studies and concludes that human exposure is continuous and global. The findings lay bare an exposure crisis through mapping microplastic release across five categories of everyday life: outdoor sources\, indoor environments\, children’s products\, healthcare and personal care\, and food and drink. By highlighting a continuous flow of particles generated from overlooked and emerging sources the report reframes the plastics crisis as a systemic exposure issue embedded across modern society. Among the report’s most striking findings is evidence that emerging climate interventions could make microplastic exposure significantly worse. For example\, stratospheric aerosol injection – a form of solar geoengineering being advanced by countries including the United Kingdom and United States – involves dispersing vast quantities of particles high into the atmosphere. Multiple patents already exist describing the release of particles including micro sized polymeric particles at altitudes of up to 20 km in the atmosphere\, creating a potentially ‘tera scale’ source of intentionally added airborne microplastics and fallout. The research identifies that rainfall already contains microplastics with wear and tear from car tires and synthetic textiles and clothing contributing to atmospheric pollution. In hospitals\, plastic particles may be introduced into the body via devices and treatments\, with microplastic fallout in operating rooms recorded at up to 9\,258 particles per square meter during a single shift. Cardiac catheters\, silicone breast implants\, orthopedic implants or intravenous fluid all cited as sources with the potential of inadvertently dosing patients with microplastics. Startlingly\, premature babies fed intravenously in neonatal units are estimated to receive up to 115 microplastic particles over a 72-hour feeding period from the infusion circuits alone. Baby formula intake exposes babies to microplastics at levels from <1 to 17 microplastics per gram formula with packaging types playing a role in releasing the observed microplastics. Children’s products are also of significant concern – building bricks\, baby play mats and other products for children releasing PET\, polypropylene\, polyethylene and PVC into a child’s living environment. As children naturally ingest more settled dust during play and breathe in more air per kilogram bodyweight\, their exposure is proportionally higher than adults. Another unexpected indoor exposure is via paint. Plastic is the main component of many paint products and such paint emit microplastics when it wears down or when old layers are scraped off. DESCRIPTION:First Contact Day is a holiday celebrated in the Federation on April 5\, marking the anniversaries of the flight of the Phoenix and of first contact between Humans and Vulcans on April 5th\, 2063 in Bozeman\, Montana. \nThe holiday also shares the same date as the Day of Honor in the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Republic’s Republic Day. While not a major holiday\, Naomi Wildman and Neelix planned an elaborate celebration aboard the USS Voyager in 2377\, including cheese pierogies\, rock and roll music\, and a reenactment of the historic first contact by Lieutenant Commander Tuvok. The day often meant a day off from school for Federation youth.
