DESCRIPTION:Clean energy technologies such as solar panels\, wind turbines\, batteries\, energy grids and electric vehicles (EVs) are important for the shift to fossilfree renewable energy. \nSuch technologies rely on so-called ‘transition minerals’\, like lithium and nickel\, the extraction of which is accelerating rapidly worldwide. Many transition minerals are being mined in the Global South\, often in the territories of Indigenous and rural peoples. In Argentina\, Indonesia\, Brazil and South Africa\, among other countries\, cases of transition mineral mining and processing resemble the worst injustices of the fossil fuel era\, with evidence of human rights abuses\, and social and environmental harms. The report ‘Renewing Injustice?‘ examines the role of 23 Dutch companies and 7 Dutch financiers in transition mineral supply chains by mapping their links to mining in the Global South\, specifically the four cases above. By connecting supply chains and financial flows with their human rights\, social and environmental impacts in  transition mining communities\, we aim to increase transparency and show how companies and financiers avoid accountability. This research reveals that Dutch companies and financiers are actively involved in global mineral supply chains. They can be linked to human rights\, social and environmental abuses in their value chains\, and are failing to abide by international standards of business and human rights. The need to transition to renewable energy and low carbon economies is as important as the need to create a more inclusive and equitable world\, now and for the future. The authors call on policymakers\, companies\, and financiers to change course to prevent repeating the injustices of the past. DESCRIPTION:International Whores’ Day / International Sex Workers’ Day\, observed annually on June 2\, honours sex workers and recognises the often exploitative nature of their working conditions. \nThe date commemorates the occupation of Église Saint-Nizier in Lyon by more than a hundred sex workers on June 2\, 1975 to draw attention to their inhumane working conditions. It has been celebrated annually since 1976. In German\, it is known as Hurentag (Whore’s Day) and in Spanish-speaking countries\, it is entitled the Día Internacional de la Trabajadora Sexual (the International Day of the Sex Worker). In the 1970s\, French police put sex workers under increasing pressure. The police repression forced them to work increasingly in secret. As a result\, they had less protection and there was more violence against sex workers. After two murders and the unwillingness of the government to improve the situation\, sex workers in Lyon occupied the Saint-Nizier Church and went on strike. DESCRIPTION:In heel Nederland klinkt op elke eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 het luchtalarm van het waarschuwingsstelsel of waarschuwings- en alarmeringssysteem (WAS)\, behalve op feestdagen\, Nationale Dodenherdenking of bij andere speciale gebeurtenissen. \nDe test duurt 1 minuut en 26 seconden. In juni en december wordt tevens een NL-Alert testbericht verstuurd naar mobiele (GSM) telefoons. Het WAS is een netwerk van 4278 sirenes in Nederland die draadloos en onafhankelijk van elkaar aangezet kunnen worden vanuit de alarmcentrale van de regionale brandweer. De sirenes worden gebruikt om te waarschuwen via een luchtalarm voor (dreigend) gevaar\, met name indien er gevaarlijke stoffen in de lucht aanwezig (kunnen) zijn. Het systeem is ontwikkeld door Siemens\, en gebruikt elektronische sirenes op basis van de Federal Signal Modulator 2008 en 1004. Het waarschuwingsstelsel is eigendom van het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid\, en is op 3 juni 1998 in gebruik genomen. De bevolking is van tevoren geïnstrueerd om in het geval dat de sirene afgaat naar binnen te gaan\, ramen en deuren te sluiten en radio of televisie aan te zetten. Op de aangewezen calamiteitenzenders kan de overheid verdere aanwijzingen geven\, bijvoorbeeld dat een gebied geëvacueerd zal worden. \nExtinction Rebellion maakt er met de actie Luchtalarm – dit is een noodgeval! telkens met kleurrijke vlaggen en banners een mooi maar bloedserieus moment van. Met deze actie wil Extinction Rebellion NL aandacht vragen voor de klimaatcrisis en de biodiversiteitscrisis en duidelijk maken dat het al vijf over twaalf is. Sluit je voor een paar minuten aan bij deze actie en laat zien dat je ook vindt dat de overheid in actie moet komen om een leefbare toekomst voor ons en onze kinderen te waarborgen. Kom langs en doe mee! Iedereen is welkom. Neem borden mee\, we delen tijdens de actie ook patches uit waarmee we onze boodschap kunnen uitdragen. \n‘Het Ballenalarm‘ is een ludieke actie waarmee de Stichting Zaadbalkanker vraagt om extra aandacht voor zaadbalkanker\, ook wel teelbalkanker genoemd. Het idee is dat mannen op de eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 – als de maandelijkse alarmsirenes loeien – hun teelballen checken\, en dit elke maand opnieuw. DESCRIPTION:Bij tabak\, alcohol en gokken zegt de overheid ons te willen beschermen\, maar bij junkfood is het opeens onze “eigen keuze”. \nDit terwijl de junkfood-industrie ons eetgedrag bewust beïnvloed met reclames. Reclame is geen onschuldige keuze-informatie. Bedrijven steken er niet voor niets zoveel geld in: het werkt. Kinderen zijn daar al helemaal niet tegen opgewassen. Het Verenigd Koninkrijk liet zien dat bijvoorbeeld een overdags verbod op junkfoodreclame echt verschil maakt. De voedingsindustrie boekt recordwinsten\, en de zorgkosten betalen wij met z’n allen. De overheid verzaakt haar plicht om de volksgezondheid te beschermen (Grondwet artikel 22). DESCRIPTION:Palantir is een Amerikaans softwarebedrijf dat wereldwijd overheden\, inlichtingendiensten en bedrijven helpt om met AI grote hoeveelheden data te verzamelen en te visualiseren. \nHet bedrijf is opgericht door de miljardair Peter Thiel\, bondgenoot van Trump en financier van extreemrechtse bewegingen wereldwijd. De AI-gestuurde platforms van Palantir brengen enorme\, uiteenlopende datasets samen in één enkel systeem voor het volgen van doelwitten. Palantir wordt ingezet door onder meer ICE bij het opsporen van ongedocumenteerde mensen\, de CIA bij het verzamelen en analyseren van grote hoeveelheden data\, en het Israëlische leger bij de genocide in Gaza. Het bedrijf levert AI-software aan het Israëlische leger waarbij met onbemande drones zelfstandig doelwitten worden geselecteerd en gedood. De speciale rapporteur van de VN-Mensenrechtenraad en Amnesty International waarschuwen dat Palantir medeplichtig is aan Israëls genocide. In Nederland wordt Palantir gebruikt door onder meer de politie. Naar eigen zeggen uitsluitend voor het opsporen van zware criminaliteit en terrorismebestrijding\, maar de overheid is hier niet transparant over: pas vorig jaar werd bekend dat de samenwerking al sinds 2011 bestaat. Door de samenwerking met de politie heeft het bedrijf toegang tot de data van miljoenen Nederlanders. DESCRIPTION:De Pride-maand / Pride Month (juni) is in de Verenigde Staten een themamaand waarin speciaal aandacht wordt besteed aan de positie\, emancipatie en acceptatie van homoseksuele mannen\, lesbische vrouwen\, biseksuelen\, transgenders en andere mensen van de lhbt+ gemeenschap. \nHet begrip krijgt in toenemende mate bekendheid in andere landen\, onder meer doordat sinds 2012 de zoekmachine Google tijdens de Pride-maand juni een jaarlijks wisselende regenboogkleurige versiering bij lhbt-gerelateerde zoekopdrachten vertoont. In de VS is juni de LGBT Pride Month aangezien eind juni 1969 in New York de Stonewall-rellen plaatsvonden\, die een belangrijke impuls voor de homo-emancipatie vormden. Ter herdenking van die rellen vinden sinds 1970 in tal van Amerikaanse steden Gay Pride Parades plaats\, die in vele Westerse landen navolging vonden\, zij het niet altijd meer eind juni. Sinds 1999 hebben de democratische presidenten Clinton\, Obama en Biden juni officieel tot Pride Month uitgeroepen. De republikeinse president Trump deed dat alleen in 2019 via Twitter. Gedurende deze maand wordt door tal van Amerikaanse organisaties\, instellingen en bedrijven aandacht besteed aan lhbt-thema’s\, onder meer door publieks- en marketingcampagnes. Hierbij kan echter ook sprake zijn van pinkwashing. In Nederland vindt ter herdenking van de Stonewall-rellen jaarlijks in telkens een andere stad de Roze Zaterdag plaats\, vaak voorafgegaan door een Roze Week. Eind juni waren eveneens het Midzomergracht festival in Utrecht en The Hague Pride in Den Haag. DESCRIPTION:On 1 June 2026\, the European Commission adopted the Roadmap towards phasing out animal testing for chemical safety assessments. \nThis comprehensive approach encompasses a wide range of legislative domains\, including industrial chemicals\, pharmaceuticals\, and food additives\, and outlines over 30 key recommendations to facilitate the transition to alternative testing methods. The European Union has a long-standing policy of replacing\, reducing and refining animal testing (3Rs). Article 13 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union recognises the need to protect animals as sentient beings. Directive 2010/63/EU1 sets the goal of phasing out animal use for research and for regulatory purposes in the EU\, as soon as scientifically possible. Many pieces of chemical legislation contain a requirement to use animal testing only as a last resort. The European Commission is preparing a “Roadmap Towards Phasing Out Animal Testing for Chemical Safety Assessments”. This will serve as a guiding plan for accelerating the path towards replacing\, reducing and refining animal testing for the safety assessments of chemicals. The roadmap was announced in Communication C(2023)5041\, which was published as a response to the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Save cruelty-free cosmetics – Commit to a Europe without animal testing”. In the communication\, the Commission expressed its commitment to develop a roadmap that “will outline milestones and specific actions\, to be implemented in the short to longer term\, to reduce animal testing and that would be pre-requisites for a transition towards an animal-free regulatory system”. This response announces further elements that will accompany the roadmap and help reach its goals. Phasing out animal testing will require substantial time. For instance\, there are currently no available approaches that are sufficient for developing and validating methods. Hier in de Braakman\, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen\, doet hij het goed. Een zeegeul is hier al voor de Deltawerken afgesloten\, om zoet water en grond te creëren. In dit stukje ruige natuur\, omklemd door Zeeuwse landbouw\, leven reeën naast allerlei vogels als koereigers. De poelen zitten ook vol leven met salamanders en waterkevers. The Day is an opportunity to build on the International Year of the Potato\, which was observed in 2008. The observance will also be used to underscore the importance of the crop to combating hunger and poverty and addressing environmental threats to agrifood systems. The roles of small-scale family farmers\, a significant proportion of whom are women\, in safeguarding the wide spectrum of the crop’s diversity\, will also be recognized\, while the cultural and culinary dimensions of the crop’s cultivation and consumption will be celebrated. The third observance of the International Day of Potato will be on 29 May 2026 (as 30 May falls on a Saturday)\, with the theme Where potatoes grow\, livelihoods flourish. The theme positions the role of potatoes in strengthening livelihoods for farmers and value chain actors —from the highlands of the Andes to Africa\, Europe\, Asia and beyond. By advancing potato farming and value chain development\, the crop contributes to poverty reduction\, resilience and more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems.

MS is two to three times more common in women than in men. There is no drug that can cure MS\, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease. \nThe theme for World MS Day 2024-2025 is diagnosis. The name of the campaign is My MS Diagnosis and the tagline: navigating MS together. The My MS Diagnosis campaign advocates for early and accurate diagnosis for everyone living with MS. It highlights the global barriers to diagnosing MS\, raising awareness by sharing real stories and data. We are calling for better MS training for healthcare professionals\, new research\, and clinical advancements in MS diagnosis. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1.
