DESCRIPTION:Clubfoot\, or talipes equinovarus\, is a treatable birth defect where one or both feet are rotated inward and downward that affects approximately 150\,000-200\,000 children each year. \nThe affected foot and leg may be smaller in size compared to the other. Approximately 50% of cases of clubfoot affect both feet. Most of the time\, it is not associated with other problems. Without treatment\, the foot remains deformed\, and people walk on the sides of their feet. This may lead to pain and difficulty walking. The exact cause is usually not identified. Both genetic and environmental factors are believed to be involved. If one identical twin is affected\, there is a 33% chance the other one will be as well. The underlying mechanism involves disruption of the muscles or connective tissue of the lower leg\, leading to joint contracture. Other abnormalities are associated 20% of the time\, with the most common being distal arthrogryposis and myelomeningocele. The diagnosis may be made at birth by examination or before birth during an ultrasound exam. \nInitial treatment is most often with the Ponseti method. This involves moving the foot into an improved position followed by casting\, which is repeated at weekly intervals. Once the inward bending is improved\, the Achilles tendon is often cut\, and braces are worn until the age of four. Initially\, the brace is worn nearly continuously and then just at night. In about 20% of cases\, further surgery is required. Treatment can be carried out by a range of healthcare providers and can generally be achieved in the developing world with few resources. Clubfoot occurs in 1 to 4 of every 1\,000 live births\, making it one of the most common birth defects affecting the legs. About 80% of cases occur in developing countries where there is limited access to care. Clubfoot is more common in firstborn children and males. It is more common among Māori people\, and less common among Chinese people. \nLinks:\nWorld Clubfoot Day

DESCRIPTION:International Whores’ Day / International Sex Workers’ Day\, observed annually on June 2\, honours sex workers and recognises the often exploitative nature of their working conditions. \nThe date commemorates the occupation of Église Saint-Nizier in Lyon by more than a hundred sex workers on June 2\, 1975 to draw attention to their inhumane working conditions. It has been celebrated annually since 1976. In German\, it is known as Hurentag (Whore’s Day) and in Spanish-speaking countries\, it is entitled the Día Internacional de la Trabajadora Sexual (the International Day of the Sex Worker). In the 1970s\, French police put sex workers under increasing pressure. The police repression forced them to work increasingly in secret. As a result\, they had less protection and there was more violence against sex workers. After two murders and the unwillingness of the government to improve the situation\, sex workers in Lyon occupied the Saint-Nizier Church and went on strike. Hitte hoeft geen groot probleem te worden. DESCRIPTION:In heel Nederland klinkt op elke eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 het luchtalarm van het waarschuwingsstelsel of waarschuwings- en alarmeringssysteem (WAS)\, behalve op feestdagen\, Nationale Dodenherdenking of bij andere speciale gebeurtenissen. \nDe test duurt 1 minuut en 26 seconden. In juni en december wordt tevens een NL-Alert testbericht verstuurd naar mobiele (GSM) telefoons. Het WAS is een netwerk van 4278 sirenes in Nederland die draadloos en onafhankelijk van elkaar aangezet kunnen worden vanuit de alarmcentrale van de regionale brandweer. De sirenes worden gebruikt om te waarschuwen via een luchtalarm voor (dreigend) gevaar\, met name indien er gevaarlijke stoffen in de lucht aanwezig (kunnen) zijn. Het systeem is ontwikkeld door Siemens\, en gebruikt elektronische sirenes op basis van de Federal Signal Modulator 2008 en 1004. Het waarschuwingsstelsel is eigendom van het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid\, en is op 3 juni 1998 in gebruik genomen. De bevolking is van tevoren geïnstrueerd om in het geval dat de sirene afgaat naar binnen te gaan\, ramen en deuren te sluiten en radio of televisie aan te zetten. Op de aangewezen calamiteitenzenders kan de overheid verdere aanwijzingen geven\, bijvoorbeeld dat een gebied geëvacueerd zal worden. \nExtinction Rebellion maakt er met de actie Luchtalarm – dit is een noodgeval! telkens met kleurrijke vlaggen en banners een mooi maar bloedserieus moment van. Met deze actie wil Extinction Rebellion NL aandacht vragen voor de klimaatcrisis en de biodiversiteitscrisis en duidelijk maken dat het al vijf over twaalf is. Sluit je voor een paar minuten aan bij deze actie en laat zien dat je ook vindt dat de overheid in actie moet komen om een leefbare toekomst voor ons en onze kinderen te waarborgen. Neem borden mee\, we delen tijdens de actie ook patches uit waarmee we onze boodschap kunnen uitdragen. \n‘Het Ballenalarm‘ is een ludieke actie waarmee de Stichting Zaadbalkanker vraagt om extra aandacht voor zaadbalkanker\, ook wel teelbalkanker genoemd. Het idee is dat mannen op de eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 – als de maandelijkse alarmsirenes loeien – hun teelballen checken\, en dit elke maand opnieuw. All of them have individual voting rights and all votes are equal\, regardless of the population of the delegate’s member State. The employer and worker delegates are normally chosen in agreement with the most representative national organizations of employers and workers. Usually\, the workers and employers’ delegates coordinate their voting. All delegates have the same rights and are not required to vote in blocs. Delegates can attend with advisers and substitute delegates\, and all have the same rights: they can express themselves freely and vote as they wish. Heads of State and prime ministers also participate in the Conference. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443). De tv editie wordt uitgezonden via NPO 2 op zondag\, vaak rond een thema. \nDe harlekijn staat in bloei\, een orchidee die bijna nergens meer voorkomt. Hier in de Braakman\, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen\, doet hij het goed. Een zeegeul is hier al voor de Deltawerken afgesloten\, om zoet water en grond te creëren. In dit stukje ruige natuur\, omklemd door Zeeuwse landbouw\, leven reeën naast allerlei vogels als koereigers. De poelen zitten ook vol leven met salamanders en waterkevers. DESCRIPTION:On 30 May\, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) spotlights the potato\, Solanum tuberosum (L.) – a crop regularly consumed by billions of people\, potatoes are a key crop across diverse farming systems globally\, ranging from smallholders producing diverse heirloom varieties by hand in the Andes\, to vast commercial\, mechanized farms in different continents. \nPotatoes contribute to the food security and nutrition as well as and livelihoods and employment of people in rural and urban areas the world over. The Day is an opportunity to build on the International Year of the Potato\, which was observed in 2008. The observance will also be used to underscore the importance of the crop to combating hunger and poverty and addressing environmental threats to agrifood systems. The roles of small-scale family farmers\, a significant proportion of whom are women\, in safeguarding the wide spectrum of the crop’s diversity\, will also be recognized\, while the cultural and culinary dimensions of the crop’s cultivation and consumption will be celebrated. The third observance of the International Day of Potato will be on 29 May 2026 (as 30 May falls on a Saturday)\, with the theme Where potatoes grow\, livelihoods flourish. The theme positions the role of potatoes in strengthening livelihoods for farmers and value chain actors —from the highlands of the Andes to Africa\, Europe\, Asia and beyond. By advancing potato farming and value chain development\, the crop contributes to poverty reduction\, resilience and more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems.

In 2024\, there are 2.9 million people living with MS worldwide. MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates nerves. In MS\, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain. Symptoms can include blurred vision\, weak limbs\, tingling sensations\, unsteadiness\, memory problems\, and fatigue. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. MS is two to three times more common in women than in men. There is no drug that can cure MS\, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease. \nThe theme for World MS Day 2024-2025 is diagnosis. The name of the campaign is My MS Diagnosis and the tagline: navigating MS together. The My MS Diagnosis campaign advocates for early and accurate diagnosis for everyone living with MS. It highlights the global barriers to diagnosing MS\, raising awareness by sharing real stories and data. We are calling for better MS training for healthcare professionals\, new research\, and clinical advancements in MS diagnosis. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van recente uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. Terwijl 78% van de jongeren klimaatverandering als een serieus vraagstuk voor Nederland ziet\, voelt de helft van de jongeren zich niet gehoord door de overheid bij beslissingen over het klimaat. Als het gaat om verantwoordelijkheid\, kijken jongeren in de eerste plaats naar de overheid (44%)\, gevolgd door bedrijven (25%) en individuen (19%). Tegelijkertijd is er stevige kritiek van jongeren op het huidige beleid: 54% vindt dat de overheid niet genoeg doet en 26% vindt zelfs dat er veel te weinig gebeurt. Dit blijkt uit een representatief onderzoek onder 1.775 jongeren van 12 t/m 29 jaar van State of Youth NL. Deze aanpak maakt een grootschalige inbreuk op onze privacy mogelijk. Hierdoor zijn deze systemen van meet af aan onrechtmatig\, stelt Amnesty International in het onderzoek.
