Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name\, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name “GNU/Linux” to emphasize the importance of GNU software\, causing some controversy. Popular Linux distributions include Debian\, Fedora\, and Ubuntu. Commercial distributions include Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Desktop Linux distributions include a windowing system such as X11 or Wayland\, and a desktop environment such as GNOME or KDE Plasma. This includes routers\, automation controls\, smart home technology\, televisions (Samsung and LG Smart TVs use Tizen and WebOS\, respectively)\, automobiles (for example\, Tesla\, Audi\, Mercedes-Benz\, Hyundai\, and Toyota all rely on Linux)\, digital video recorders\, video game consoles\, and smartwatches. The Falcon 9’s and the Dragon 2‘s avionics use a customized version of Linux. DESCRIPTION:Patient safety is a discipline that emphasizes safety in health care through the prevention\, reduction\, reporting\, and analysis of medical error that often leads to adverse effects. \nThe frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse events experienced by patients was not well known until the 1990s\, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors. Recognizing that healthcare errors impact 1 in every 10 patients around the world\, the World Health Organization calls patient safety an endemic concern. Indeed\, patient safety has emerged as a distinct healthcare discipline supported by an immature yet developing scientific framework. There is a significant transdisciplinary body of theoretical and research literature that informs the science of patient safety. No one should be harmed in health care. Yet thousands of patients across the world suffer avoidable harm\, or are put at risk of injury\, while receiving health care every single day. The 72nd World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA 72.6 ‘Global action on patient safety’ on 25 May 2019. The resolution recognizes patient safety as a global health priority and endorses the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September. World Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety. Furthermore\, the Day brings together patients\, families\, caregivers\, communities\, health workers\, health care leaders and policy-makers to show their commitment to patient safety. Uit het onderzoek ‘100 dagen EU Pact en wetgeving Praktijkervaringen en verbeterpunten‘ onder 88 van teamleiders van Vluchtelingenwerk én signalen van de Vereniging Asieladvocaten en -juristen Nederland (VAJN) blijkt dat dit in de praktijk nog niet altijd goed werkt. Juist mensen die extra ondersteuning nodig hebben\, dreigen tussen wal en schip te vallen. Mensen die asiel aanvragen in Nederland moeten sneller door de procedure. Maar 100 dagen na de invoering van het Europese Migratiepact krijgen wij signalen dat de snelheid en de focus op zelfredzaamheid ook nieuwe problemen veroorzaken. DESCRIPTION:De ozonlaag is een dun laagje gas dat ligt tussen de 15 en 50 kilometer hoogte en als een ring om onze aarde zit met als belangrijkste eigenschap; het beschermt ons tegen de schadelijke straling (ultraviolette straling) die afkomstig is van de zon. \nZonder de ozonlaag is leven op aarde niet mogelijk. Door vervuiling wordt de ozonlaag steeds dunner. Hierdoor lopen mensen meer kans op huidkanker en staar. Om gezamenlijk te proberen het ozongat niet groter te laten worden werd op 22 maart 1985 het Verdrag van Wenen aangenomen dat door 28 landen ondertekend. Op 16 september 1987 heeft dit geleid tot het opstellen van het Montrealprotocol (Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer). Het is geratificeerd door elke lidstaat van de Verenigde Naties (197); de Europese Unie\, alle 193 leden van de Verenigde Naties\, Vaticaanstad\, Cookeilanden en Niue. Het Montrealprotocol laat zien dat mondiaal afspraken maken over het milieubeleid duidelijk zin heeft. We moeten nog wel een tijd wachten voordat de ozonlaag helemaal hersteld is maar vermoedelijk zal tegen 2050 de ozonlaag hersteld zijn tot het niveau van 1960. Plak er nog een 20 tot 30 jaar aan vast en dan moet de ozonlaag toch praktisch hersteld zijn. Mensen geboren voor 2000 zullen dit\, en de gevolgen hiervan\, zich nog zeer levendig kunnen herinneren. Als je meedoet aan deze werelddag dan is het de bedoeling dat jij aan een wildvreemde 2 munten of biljetten geeft en hen vraagt om de helft door te geven aan iemand anders. Free Money Day kun je zien als een sociaal experiment; wat gebeurt er als je geld aanbiedt aan mensen die je niet kent. In England\, 44% of the population is now registered; 40% recording an opt-in decision and 4% an opt-out decision. In the Netherlands\, mandated donor registration resulted in the entire adult population having their decision recorded: “Yes\, I want to be a donor” (34%)\, “No objection” (24%)\, or “No\, I don’t want to be a donor” (31%)\, while 11% leave the “Decision to next of kin”. Despite these structural changes\, the consent categories created by opt-out legislation (“deemed” consent in England and “No objection” in the Netherlands) remain challenging in practice\, with fewer than 50% of families agreeing to donation. In England\, the family consent rate declined from 69% to 57% between 2020 and 2025 and the donor numbers remain below pre-pandemic levels. In contrast\, the Netherlands experienced a modest increase in family consent rates and donor numbers compared to the opt-in consent system. DESCRIPTION:De Afdeling advisering van de Raad van State heeft op 9 september 2026 het advies vastgesteld over het ontwerpbesluit tot wijziging van het Luchthavenverkeerbesluit Schiphol\, het advies is op 14 september 2026 gepubliceerd. \net kabinet heeft twee doelstellingen. Als eerste wil het kabinet ernstige geluidhinder door vliegtuigen in de omgeving van Schiphol verminderen. In vergelijking tot de situatie op 1 november 2024 moeten er over de gehele dag 20% minder personen zijn die ernstige geluidhinder ervaren. Voor de nacht wil het kabinet dat 15% minder personen ernstige geluidhinder ervaren. De tweede doelstelling is het verbeteren van de rechtsbescherming van personen die in de buurt wonen van Schiphol. Het ontwerpbesluit maakt een einde aan de bestaande situatie van ‘anticiperend handhaven’\, waarin normen uit het Luchthavenverkeerbesluit Schiphol (LVB) in beperkte mate worden gehandhaafd. Het ontwerpbesluit wijzigt het LVB en beoogt aan bovenstaande doelstellingen bij te dragen. Het ontwerpbesluit bepaalt dat er per jaar maximaal 478.000 vluchten van en naar Schiphol mogen plaatsvinden\, waarvan 27.000 in de nacht (van 23:00 tot 07:00). Ook regelt het ontwerpbesluit de maximale hoeveelheid geluid en uitstoot van stoffen die deze vluchten mogen veroorzaken. Daarnaast bepaalt het ontwerpbesluit dat er in de toekomst meer vluchten mogen plaatsvinden (met een maximum aantal van 500.000 vluchten per jaar). \nHet kabinet kan dit alleen besluiten als aan de geldende randvoorwaarden voor geluid en uitstoot van stoffen is voldaan. De Afdeling advisering onderschrijft het belang om de rechtsbescherming van omwonenden te herstellen. De Afdeling adviseert om uit te leggen welke maatregelen getroffen kunnen worden als de normen die gelden voor Schiphol worden overschreden. Ook wijst de Afdeling advisering erop dat het van belang is dat deze maatregelen omwonenden voldoende bescherming bieden. Met het oog op die bescherming is het ook van belang dat iedere stap die leidt tot een groei van het aantal vluchten (naar uiteindelijk maximaal 500.000) pas kan worden genomen als verzekerd is dat aan de randvoorwaarden daarvoor is voldaan. Het ontwerpbesluit raakt aan het fundamentele recht op bescherming van het privéleven en de eigen woning. Als gevolg van dit ontwerpbesluit kunnen er omwonenden zijn die juist meer geluidhinder gaan ondervinden. De Afdeling adviseert om toe te lichten hoe de belangen van die omwonenden zijn meegewogen en of hun woon- en leefsituatie acceptabel blijft. Het kabinet heeft een milieueffectrapport (MER) opgesteld. Zo krijgt het milieubelang ten opzichte van andere belangen\, zoals het economische belang\, een volwaardige plaats in de besluitvorming. Bepaalde keuzes zijn in het MER niet voldoende onderbouwd. DESCRIPTION:Grote kloof tussen ambitie en beleid richting 2040; emissiereductie 2030 stagneert. \nNederland heeft een grote kloof te overbruggen om in de buurt te komen van de Europese ambitie om in 2040 90 procent minder broeikasgas in de EU uit te stoten dan in 1990. In het basispad vindt in 2040 naar verwachting een emissiereductie van 57 tot 68 procent plaats. Het huidige uitgewerkte beleid per 1 januari (‘basispad’) leidt tot 57 tot 68 procent emissiereductie in 2040. Met minder vaststaande\, maar wel doorrekenbare plannen (‘aanvullend beleid’) erbij wordt dit 61 tot 72 procent emissiereductie. Zo ligt Nederland niet op koers richting het wettelijke doel van klimaatneutraliteit in 2050. De geraamde emissiedaling in 2030 stagneert al drie jaar op rij. Politieke impasses hebben het tempo uit de energietransitie gehaald. Daarmee blijft het heel erg onwaarschijnlijk dat Nederland het klimaatdoel voor 2030 haalt. In de 35 jaar tussen 1990 en 2025 is de broeikasgasuitstoot in Nederland met ongeveer een derde verminderd. In de 24 jaar tot 2050 zal de resterende tweederde van de emissiedaling gerealiseerd moeten worden. Dat is een opgave van formaat. Om de energietransitie op korte termijn op koers te krijgen\, is robuust extra beleid op Europees én nationaal niveau nodig. Het is belangrijk dat dit beleid niet alleen op 2030 gericht is\, maar ook leidt tot structurele uitstootreductie op de langere termijn. In 2025 importeerde Nederland 77 procent van de verbruikte energie. Door meer gebruik van hernieuwbare energie daalt de energieafhankelijkheid weer naar 65 tot 70 procent in 2030 en naar 49 tot 63 procent in 2040. Daarmee wordt Nederland minder gevoelig voor de schokken op de wereldmarkten die de afgelopen jaren regelmatig zijn voorgekomen. De afhankelijkheid van de import van fossiele energie blijft echter nog altijd groot. De jaarlijkse Klimaat- en Energieverkenning wordt voorgeschreven door de Klimaatwet en geldt als één van de verantwoordingsinstrumenten van het Nederlandse klimaat- en energiebeleid. \nLinks:\nKlimaat- en Energieverkenning 2026

DESCRIPTION:Vroege Vogels is een live-radioprogramma\, tv-programma en online community van BNNVARA over natuur en milieu. \nIn het radioprogramma wordt het gesproken woord omlijst door licht klassieke muziek en salonmuziek. Het radioprogramma werd in 1978 voor het eerst uitgezonden door de VARA en is een van de langst lopende en best beluisterde radioprogramma’s van de publieke omroep. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443). De tv editie wordt uitgezonden via NPO 2 op zondag\, vaak rond een thema. \nKabbelende beekjes\, velden vol orchideeën en statige bossen: dat is Springendal in Noord-Oost Twente. DESCRIPTION:Op zondag 13 september om 13:00\, de dag na de klimaatmars\, blokkeert Extinction Rebellion (XR) opnieuw de A12 in Den Haag. \nDe actiegroep roept op om de klimaatmars niet opnieuw te negeren\, en waarschuwt na de catastrofale droogte van afgelopen zomer voor nóg meer klimaatrampen. XR roept deelnemers van de mars daarom op om zich aan te sluiten bij radicalere vormen van protest\, en mee te doen met de A12-blokkade op 19 september 2026. 40.000 mensen hebben meegelopen in de klimaatmars\, en een nog veel grotere meerderheid in Nederland steunt hun eisen. De overheid negeert volgens XR al jarenlang de overgrote meerderheid van Nederland die levensreddend klimaatbeleid wil. En ze negeren niet alleen gewone mensen\, maar ook de wetenschap\, de rechtspraak en hun eigen internationale verdragen\, zoals het klimaatverdrag van Parijs. XR wil simpelweg een veilige toekomst voor onze kinderen en kleinkinderen: als onze ‘democratie’ daar niet voor kan zorgen\, dan klopt het systeem niet. XR doet een dringend beroep op alle deelnemers van de klimaatmars om het hier niet bij te laten\, maar om zich bij radicalere vormen van protest aan te sluiten. De actiegroep wil dat Nederlanders zo veel mogelijk druk zetten op de fossiele industrie en kapitalistische politici. Voor D66\, waarvan minister Van Veldhoven (Klimaat en Groene Groei) en kamerlid Klos meeliepen in de klimaatmars\, heeft XR geen goed woord over: “De deelname van regeringspartij D66 aan de klimaatmars is\, in dezelfde week dat het nieuws naar buiten kwam dat er vorig jaar niet 2\, maar 11 miljard aan fossiele subsidies naar Tata Steel zijn gegaan\, op zijn zachtst hypocriet te noemen. Wetenschapsjournalist Ellemiek de Wit onderzoekt dit in haar boek ‘Hormoon als een garnaal’. Hoe bescherm je wandelaars die langs een nest van de Europese hoornaar lopen?
