DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. Een strategie voor duurzame vrede\, met garanties voor de mensenrechten en veiligheid van zowel Palestijnen als Israëliërs. \nLinks:\nAmbtenaren en de Grondwet

DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nMedio juni 2026 is er sprake van zeer warm weer in Nederland\, Vlaanderen en andere gebieden in Europa.\n\nNederland:\nNa overleg met het KNMI heeft het RIVM besloten het Hitteplan te activeren\, dit geldt vanaf donderdag 18 juni 2026 10:00 voor heel Nederland. Het doel van deze activering is om een signaal af te geven voor mantelzorgers en (zorg)professionals dat er heet weer op komst is. Dit helpt om hen bewust te maken extra aandacht te hebben voor de mensen waar zij voor zorgen. Zij kunnen daar dan rekening mee houden in de ondersteuning van en omgang met kwetsbare groepen\, zoals ouderen en kleine kinderen. Vanaf donderdag 18 juni 2026 wordt het zeer warm. De combinatie van hoge temperaturen en luchtvochtigheid zorgt voor een onaangename\, benauwde hitte. Ouderen en mensen met een kwetsbare gezondheid kunnen hierdoor gezondheidsklachten krijgen. Echter\, bij zware lichamelijke activiteit kan iedereen klachten krijgen\, zoals uitdroging en oververhitting. De hittekracht komt komende dagen ’s middags uit op 8 of 9. Tevens is het Hitteplan van het RIVM van kracht. Donderdag liggen de maximumtemperaturen tussen 27 en 32°C\, vrijdag wordt het met 30 tot 35°C nog warmer. \nOp vrijdag 19 juni ontstaan er van het zuiden van Nederland uit plaatselijk forse onweersbuien. Hiervoor geldt in Limburg\, Noord-Brabant\, Zeeland en Zuid-Holland code oranje\, voor de rest van Nederland geldt code geel. Er is dan plaatselijk kans op overlast en schade door zware windstoten\, grote hagel en veel regen in korte tijd. In de nacht naar zaterdag neemt de kans op onweersbuien weer af. \nVanaf woensdag 24 juni 2026 code oranje voor extreme hitte – Vanaf woensdag tot en met ten minste vrijdag wordt het met uitzondering van Groningen\, Friesland en Drenthe en de Waddeneilanden extreem heet met maximumtemperaturen van 33-36°C. In grotere steden ligt de temperatuur ’s nachts tussen 22 en 27°C. \nOp woensdag 24 juni is het zeer warm. De combinatie van hoge temperaturen en luchtvochtigheid zorgt voor een onaangename\, benauwde hitte. Vooral ouderen en mensen met een kwetsbare gezondheid kunnen hierdoor gezondheidsklachten krijgen. Echter bij zware lichamelijke activiteit kan iedereen klachten krijgen\, zoals uitdroging en oververhitting. De hittekracht komt daarbij op 8 of hoger. Het Nationaal Hitteplan van het RIVM is hiervoor van kracht\, tot ten minste zaterdag. Voor het midden en zuiden geldt in elk geval tot en met vrijdag code oranje voor extreme hitte. Op vrijdag geldt de code oranje ook voor het noorden. Extreme hitte kan gevolgen hebben voor de gezondheid\, ook voor gezonde mensen\, vooral bij fysieke inspanning. De hittekracht komt daarbij in de middag uit op 9 à 10. De extreme hitte (code oranje) houdt waarschijnlijk ook nog op zaterdag aan. Woensdag 24 en donderdag 25 juni wordt het met uitzondering van Groningen\, Friesland en Drenthe en de Waddeneilanden extreem heet met maximumtemperaturen van 33-37°C\, donderdag in Limburg plaatselijk mogelijk 38°C. In het noorden wordt het met 25-33°C iets minder warm. Vrijdag en zaterdag wordt het nog warmer\, met maximumtemperaturen van 33-36°C in het noorden en westen en 36-39°C landinwaarts\, plaatselijk kan het mogelijk 40°C worden. Ook de minimumtemperaturen zijn erg hoog; in het noorden koelt het af naar 15-20°C\, in het midden en zuiden blijft het zeer warm met minimumtemperaturen tussen de 20 en 25°C (tropennacht). In stedelijke gebieden koelt het niet verder af dan 25°C. \nOp donderdag 26 juni 2026 waarschuwt het RIVM voor hoge ozonconcentraties in Nederland. De hoogste concentraties lijken in een band vanaf Leiden naar Hilversum\, Utrecht en Flevoland tot aan Zwolle te ontstaan. In en rond deze band kan de luchtkwaliteit “slecht” zijn vanwege smog door ozon. Mensen die gevoelig zijn voor smog kunnen hier last van hebben. Het RIVM adviseert hen binnen te blijven en zware lichamelijke inspanning te beperken. Dit advies geldt vooral in de namiddag en vroege avond\, omdat de lucht dan het meest verontreinigd is met ozon. \nDeze zeer warme dagen eindigen met onweer. Van het zuiden uit neemt de kans op zware onweersbuien toe\, mogelijk met grote hagelstenen\, wateroverlast en zware windstoten. Houd daar rekening mee vrijdag- en zeker zaterdagavond. Daarvoor geldt op vrijdag in een deel en op zaterdag in het geheel Nederland code geel. \n \nVrijdag 26 juni vanaf 00:00 geldt in een groot deel van Nederland code rood voor extreme hitte. In Groningen\, Friesland\, Drenthe en Zeeland geldt code oranje. Code rood is voor hitte nog nooit eerder afgegeven. Deze code geldt wanneer de hitte uitzonderlijk ernstig is: meerdere dagen temperaturen tussen de 35 en 40 graden\, met ook ’s nachts nauwelijks afkoeling zodat het lichaam niet kan herstellen. Zoek verkoeling en blijf uit de zon. Drink genoeg water\, ook als u geen dorst heeft. Doe geen zware lichamelijke activiteiten. De gevolgen kunnen groot zijn: meer hittegerelateerde gezondheidsproblemen\, uitval van vitale voorzieningen en mogelijk grote maatschappelijke ontwrichting waardoor overheden noodmaatregelen nemen. De boodschap: de situatie is gevaarlijk\, volg de instructies van de overheid en hulpdiensten op. \nOp vrijdag 26 juni hittekracht 10 verwacht in een deel van Nederland. Hittekracht 10 is in Nederland zeer zeldzaam. In de afgelopen ruim dertig jaar (1991-2024) is hittekracht 10\, vooral langs de kust en in het noorden\, nog nooit voorgekomen. In De Bilt slechts 3 dagen in totaal\, en alleen in het zuidoosten kwam het gemiddeld eens per paar jaar voorkomend. Het absolute maximum (de hoogste 10) in die periode in De Bilt was op 17 augustus 2019. \n \nBelgië:\nDe warmte zal 5 dagen aanhouden en vrijdag zelfs nog toenemen\, met temperaturen rond 35°C (afhankelijk van de timing van de onweders). Na een lichte afname tijdens het weekend\, zijn begin volgende week gelijkaardige temperaturen mogelijk\, maar dit moet nog worden bevestigd. \nTijdens de avond van 19 juni kunnen er op sommige plaatsen hevige onweersbuien plaatsvinden. Tijdens de zwaarste buien is het opletten voor veel neerslag op korte tijd\, zeer hevige windstoten en grote hagelstenen. Plaatselijke schade is waarschijnlijk. Voorlopig lopen regio’s in het centrum en het westen het grootste risico en krijgen daarom code oranje\, maar we volgen van nabij op en kleurcodes kunnen wijzigen. In de loop van de nacht wordt het rustiger. \nDe warmte in België houdt in week 26 aan en gaat alleen maar crescendo. Op dinsdag 23 juni bereiken we mogelijk al 32°C op sommige plaatsen\, vooral dan in het uiterste zuiden van het land. Vanaf woensdag bereiken en overschrijden de maxima op de meeste plaatsen 35°C en geldt voor vrijwel het ganse land code oranje voor hitte. Bovendien blijven ook de nachtelijke temperaturen bijzonder hoog. In de loop van het weekend zou een onweerstoring voor een lichte afname van de temperaturen zorgen. \nDe eerste dagen na 24 juni 2026 worden de warmste van deze hittegolf met extreme temperaturen. In het binnenland verwachten we op vele plaatsen maxima boven de 35°C en lokaal zelfs waarden tot 36 à 38°C\, of vrijdag zelfs tot plaatselijk 40°C in het oosten van België. Zaterdag schommelen de maxima tussen 30 en 38°C bij een toenemende kans op onweer. Zondag lijken de maxima te liggen tussen 25 en 32°C. Begin volgende week wordt het gevoelig koeler. Voorts is ook de alarmfase van het Ozon- en Hitteplan\, geactiveerd door de FOD Volksgezondheid\, nog steeds actief en deze houdt onder andere ook rekening met het cumulatieve effect van de hittegolf. Tot slot zullen de nachttemperaturen hoog blijven en lokaal niet beneden de 25-27°C dalen (vooral in de grote steden). DESCRIPTION:The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory\, including East Jerusalem\, and Israel examines violations and crimes against and affecting Palestinian children\, including serious physical and psychological harm by the Israeli security forces since 7 October 2023 resulting in the death of at least 20\,179 and injury of 44\,143 children. \nThe paper ‘The essence of childhood has been destroyed: Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023‘ describes the deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian children\, including post-ceasefire since the October 2025 Gaza peace plan. The Commission also examines a sharp increase in violence perpetrated by members of Israeli settlers against Palestinian children in the West Bank\, including East Jerusalem. The Commission examines the use of torture\, inhumane and degrading treatment\, including sexual and gender-based violence\, against Palestinian children\, particularly during mass arrests and in detention. It analyses pattern of Israel’s targeting of critical infrastructure essential to children\, such as healthcare facilities and its short- to long-term consequences\, as well as the impact of reproductive violence on newborns\, resulting in poor neonatal health and birthing outcomes; attacks on orphanages and schools\, impacting the loss of care for orphans and unaccompanied children\, and inducing academic harm and learning disruptions for children\, respectively. The Commission examines the impact of the conditions of life imposed by Israel in Gaza resulting in preventable mortality of children\, exacerbating morbidity\, and serious mental trauma from the relentless and widespread attacks by Israel over two years – collectively revealing severe\, multi-layered harm to Palestinian children’s survival\, health\, and development. Further\, the Commission examines how Israeli soldiers mock and weaponize symbols of childhood in Gaza\, raising ethical\, disciplinary and legal questions about the conduct of the Israeli security forces during the ground invasion of Gaza. Held under the theme “Rangelands: Recognize. Respect. Restore.”\, this year’s observance calls for greater recognition of the economic\, ecological and cultural value of rangelands\, respect for their traditional stewards and stronger investment in restoring degraded rangelands. Rangelands are among the world’s most extensive yet most overlooked ecosystems. Covering more than half of the Earth’s land surface\, they play a vital role in food security\, water cycles\, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. They support the lives of around two billion people worldwide\, including many pastoralists and Indigenous Peoples whose knowledge and stewardship have sustained these landscapes for generations. This year’s event aligns with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists\, helping to underscore the need to raise awareness\, encourage responsible investment and strengthen policies that safeguard rangelands and pastoralist livelihoods. Up to half of the world’s rangelands are degraded or at risk\, with serious consequences for food and water security\, biodiversity\, climate resilience and rural livelihoods. Het Nederlandse strafrecht biedt immers ruimte voor maatwerk\, waarbij de persoonlijke situatie van de verdachte mag worden meegewogen. Maar door een optelsom van factoren\, is er volgens onderzoekers van het Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek- en Datacentrum (WODC) sprake van een structureel ongunstigere positie voor deze groep mensen. Dit blijkt uit twee vandaag verschenen WODC-rapporten: Vinkjes in het strafrecht? en Scherp op selectiviteit. Eerder verscheen het rapport Van verdenking tot vrijheidsstraf\, dat gaat over etnische selectiviteit. DESCRIPTION:Building on a rapidly growing global consensus\, in 2018 the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD) started a worldwide dengue awareness campaign\, which included calling on the UN and WHO to designate a World Dengue Day. \nIts petition for a World Dengue Day has to date garnered over 26\,500 signatures\, endorsed by a growing and global collective of patients\, policy makers\, researchers\, professionals and advocates from over 110 countries\, who share the clear goal of reducing the burden of dengue around the world. In addition\, ISNTD also convened an international and multi-sectoral Dengue Advisory Group\, comprised of partners from Ministries of Health\, research and academia\, NGOs and civic society\, to guide this campaign. Such a move is not without precedent. On 15 June 2011\, ASEAN Health Ministers first declared that day — and each subsequent 15 June — ASEAN Dengue Day. This important annual event allows ASEAN members\, in coordination with WHO\, to consolidate dengue prevention and control measures. \nThe World Dengue Day campaign is aiming to achieve the same – on an international scale given the rapidly growing global threat of dengue. Growing population densities\, unplanned urban development\, poor water storage and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions are all common factors that contribute to the worsening burden of this mosquito-borne disease – not just for ASEAN\, but for many countries around the world. The disease has significant impact on the socio-economic status of every country. Tackling dengue is everyone’s concern. ISNTD-ADVA World Dengue Day Forum – Cross Sector Synergies marks a day that all governments\, civil societies\, public and private sectors\, schools\, universities and citizens\, can devote to dengue awareness-raising actions. DESCRIPTION:Vroege Vogels is een live-radioprogramma\, tv-programma en online community van BNNVARA over natuur en milieu. \nIn het radioprogramma wordt het gesproken woord omlijst door licht klassieke muziek en salonmuziek. Het radioprogramma werd in 1978 voor het eerst uitgezonden door de VARA en is een van de langst lopende en best beluisterde radioprogramma’s van de publieke omroep. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443). De tv editie wordt uitgezonden via NPO 2 op zondag\, vaak rond een thema. \nAalscholvers jagen door het water langs de Oostvaardersdijk in Flevoland. We volgen de dijk langs moerassen\, dammen en haventjes\, met goudvinken\, zeearenden en brasems. In de natte kwelgraslanden zoeken steltlopers als de grutto naar eten\, tussen planten die je aan zee zou verwachten. De boommarter in de lepelaarkolonie op de strekdammen van Lelystad zorgde dit jaar voor veel commotie in Beleef de Lente. We ontdekken dat er toch wat jongen groot zijn geworden. En vanuit de kano zien we wat het droogleggen van een moeras in de Oostvaardersplassen heeft opgeleverd; hopelijk vangen we een glimp op van de baardmannen. \nLinks:\nVroege Vogels

DESCRIPTION:World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is celebrated every year by people around the world on June 14\, it is celebrated on the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on June 14\, 1868\, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system. \nWBDD was organised for the first time in 2005\, by a joint initiative of World Health Organisation\, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products\, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary\, life-saving gifts of blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps and save millions of lives every year. It can help patients who suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life\, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential\, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products can help reduce rates of death and disability due to severe bleeding during delivery and after childbirth. In many countries\, there is not an adequate supply of safe blood\, and blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available\, while also ensuring its quality and safety. An adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid blood donors. The WHO’s goal is for all countries to obtain all their blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 2020. In 2014\, 60 countries have their national blood supplies based on 99-100% voluntary unpaid blood donations\, with 73 countries still largely dependent on family and paid donors. \nThe 2026 campaign\, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”\, places humanity at the heart of every blood donation. It reminds us that each donation is more than a medical act: it is a powerful expression of solidarity\, compassion and collective responsibility. Inspired by the idea that the whole of humanity can be reflected in a single drop\, the campaign highlights how every donor helps form a lifeline that connects and protects us all. While advances in science\, testing and blood safety systems have made transfusion safer than ever\, safe blood remains dependent on people willing to donate regularly and voluntarily. DESCRIPTION:Albinism is a rare\, non-contagious\, genetically inherited difference present at birth\, congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair\, feathers\, scales and skin and reddish pink or blue eyes. \nIn almost all types of albinism\, both parents must carry the gene for it to be passed on\, even if they do not have albinism themselves. The condition is found in both sexes regardless of ethnicity and in all countries of the world. Albinism results in a lack of pigmentation (melanin) in the hair\, skin and eyes\, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result\, almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and are prone to developing skin cancer. There is no cure for the absence of melanin that is central to albinism. While numbers vary\, it is estimated that in North America and Europe 1 in every 17\,000 to 20\,000 people have some form of albinism. The condition is much more prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa\, with estimates of 1 in 1\,400 people being affected in Tanzania  and prevalence as high as 1 in 1\,000 reported for select populations in Zimbabwe and for other specific ethnic groups in Southern Africa. \nThe lack of melanin means persons with albinism are highly vulnerable to developing skin cancer. In some countries\, a majority of persons with albinism die from skin cancer between 30 and 40 years of age. Skin cancer is highly preventable when persons with albinism enjoy their right to health. This includes access to regular health checks\, sunscreen\, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing. In a significant number of countries\, these life-saving means are unavailable or inaccessible to them. Consequently\, in the realm of development measures\, persons with albinism have been and are among those “left furthest behind.” Therefore\, they ought to be targeted for human rights interventions in the manner envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals. \nDue to a lack of melanin in the skin and eyes\, persons with albinism often have permanent visual impairment. They also face discrimination due to their skin colour; as such\, they are often subject to multiple and intersecting discrimination on the grounds of both disability and colour. People with albinism face multiple forms of discrimination worldwide. Albinism is still profoundly misunderstood\, socially and medically. The physical appearance of persons with albinism is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition\, which foster their marginalization and social exclusion. This leads to various forms of stigma and discrimination. \nIn some communities\, erroneous beliefs and myths\, heavily influenced by superstition\, put the security and lives of persons with albinism at constant risk. These beliefs and myths are centuries old and are present in cultural attitudes and practices around the world. While it has been reported that persons with albinism globally face discrimination and stigma\, information on cases of physical attacks against persons with albinism is mainly available from countries in Africa. \nPersons with albinism face more severe forms of discrimination and violence in those regions\, where the majority of the general population are relatively dark-skinned. In other words\, a greater degree of contrast in pigmentation often gives rise to a greater degree of discrimination. That appears to be the case in some sub-Saharan African countries where albinism is shrouded in myth and dangerous and erroneous beliefs. The figures on violations against persons with albinism are telling. There have been hundreds of cases of attacks and killings of persons with albinism reported in 28 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in the past decade. The attacks have several root causes including ignorance\, longstanding stigma\, poverty and most abhorrently\, harmful practices emanating from manifestation of beliefs in witchcraft. The alarming reality is that these horrendous practices continue today. \nThe manner in which discrimination faced by persons with albinism manifests itself\, and its severity\, vary from region to region. In the western world\, including North America\, Europe and Australia\, discrimination often consists of name-calling\, persistent teasing and bullying of children with albinism.
