DESCRIPTION:Vliegverkeer en aantal melders uit omgeving Schiphol stijgen gelijkmatig. \nIn 2024 namen het vliegverkeer op Schiphol en het aantal melders uit de omgeving van Schiphol gelijkmatig toe\, dat blijkt uit rapportage van het Bewoners Aanspreekpunt Schiphol (BAS). Het vliegverkeer en het aantal mensen dat een melding deed bij BAS namen beiden met 8% toe. Het totaal aantal vliegbewegingen van en naar Schiphol ligt iets onder het niveau van 2019. Het aantal meldingen binnen de focusgroep steeg met 26% in vergelijking met 2023 tot 232.585 meldingen. Er werden minder meldingen ingediend over de moderne vloot\, die stiller is. De rapportage van BAS gaat over het gebruiksjaar 2024\, de periode van 1 november 2023 tot en met 31 oktober 2024. De rapportage focust zich in de analyses en conclusies op mensen  die tussen de 1 en 500 meldingen per jaar doen. Het aantal veelmelders\, mensen die meer dan 500 meldingen per jaar doen\, steeg het afgelopen jaar met 12% tot 95. In totaal werden er door deze groep 144.015 meldingen gedaan. \nLinks:\nBAS

Niet wegkijken van al die gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis en toch iets van levensgeluk vasthouden? Het leven ondanks alles blijven vieren? Velen van ons hebben besloten om zich in te zetten om de klimaatcrisis aan te pakken. Dat kan zijn door plantaardig te eten\, of minder plastic te gebruiken. Anderen gaan het gesprek aan in hun omgeving om bewustwording te vergroten. Of gaan over tot actie\, samen met één van de milieu-organisaties als Milieudefensie\, Greenpeace of Extinction Rebellion. \nVoor zoveel mogelijk mensen die boos\, bezorgd of verdrietig zijn over het klimaat en geïnspireerd zijn om iets te veranderen aan de toestand van het klimaat. Activisten\, bezorgde mensen\, religieus en niet-religieus\, jongeren en volwassenen. Bezoekers van de Klimaatwakes zoeken inspiratie om zich actief in te zetten. Samen delen waar je bang voor bent\, omdat je niet wilt wegkijken\, maar klimaat-rampen onder ogen zien\, geeft troost. Soms merk je dat je inzet tegen de klimaatcrisis je kan vervreemden of isoleren van je vrienden of familie. Of je kan je verdrietig en gefrustreerd voelen dat er zo slecht geluisterd wordt door overheid en bedrijven. DESCRIPTION:De Bed-In was een pacifistische protestactie van John Lennon en Yoko Ono tegen de Vietnamoorlog\, die zij twee keer hielden: een keer in Amsterdam en een keer in Montreal. \nVan 25 tot 31 maart 1969 hielden Lennon en Ono hun eerste Bed-In in suite 702 van het Hiltonhotel in Amsterdam. Even daarvoor waren ze getrouwd en ze dachten met deze actie de aandacht die hun huwelijk trok te kunnen aanwenden voor de bevordering van de wereldvrede. In het Amsterdamse Hilton bracht het jonge paar inderdaad de gehele tijd door in bed\, waarbij de pers aanwezig was. ‘Hair Peace’ en ‘Bed Peace’\, die protestleuzen sierden de ramen van de kamer. In bed lagen die week John Lennon en Yoko Ono\, om een week lang te praten over vrede en de toenmalige oorlog in Vietnam. DESCRIPTION:The Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members is marked each year on the anniversary of the abduction of Alec Collett\, a former journalist who was working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) when he was abducted by armed gunman in 1985; his body was finally found in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley in 2009. \nThe Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members has taken on even greater importance in recent years\, as attacks against the United Nations intensify.  This is a day to mobilize action\, demand justice and strengthen their resolve to protect UN staff and peacekeepers\, as well as their colleagues in the non-governmental community and the press. Since the founding of the United Nations in 1945\, hundreds of brave men and women have lost their lives in its service. During the 1990s\, the growing number and scale of UN peacekeeping missions put many more at risk. More lives were lost during the 1990s than in the previous four decades combined. At that time\, an awareness began to develop among Member States and staff\, that the more active the UN became in the future\, the more it was going to be targeted. The first resolution on staff security was adopted by the UN Security Council in September 1993. Complex negotiations subsequently took place in the Sixth (Legal) Committee of the General Assembly on an international legal convention to protect UN personnel. The result of those negotiations was the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel\, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 9 December 1994. \nLinks:\nInternational Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members 25 March

DESCRIPTION:The International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is a time for reflection\, but it is also a time for education. \nDespite myths to the contrary\, enslaved Africans enriched the Americas not just through their labour but also through a transfer of vital skills and knowledge. In addition\, rather than accepting their fate\, they engaged in powerful acts of resistance. The United Nations works to highlight such stories through its Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery\, which is managed by the Department of Global Communications\, and the Routes of Enslaved Peoples Project\, which is run by the United Nations Educational\, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In 2006\, the United Nations General Assembly\, through resolution 61/19\, recognized that “the slave trade and slavery are among the worst violations of human rights in the history of humanity\, bearing in mind particularly their scale and duration” and designated 25 March 2007 as the International Day for the Commemoration of the Two-hundredth Anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. \nThe following year\, through resolution 62/122\, it designated 25 March as an annual International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade\, beginning in 2008. The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act was passed in the United Kingdom on 25 March 1807. From that day on\, “all manner of dealing and reading in the purchase\, sale\, barter\, or transfer of slaves or of persons intending to be sold\, transferred\, used\, or dealt with as slaves\, practiced or carried in\, at\, or from any part of the coast or countries of Africa shall be abolished\, prohibited and declared to be unlawful”. However\, while the act abolished the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans\, it did not abolish slavery\, which still continued for decades. Volgens het internationaal recht zijn de nederzettingen illegaal. Hoe kan het Nederlandse bedrijf Booking.com daar dan toch zijn activiteiten voortzetten? Argos onderzocht de afgelopen maanden de handel op de Westelijke Jordaanoever\, en sprak met anonieme medewerkers van het bedrijf. De kritiek zwelt steeds verder aan vanaf de werkvloer. Op de Westoever neemt de Israëlische onderzoeker Dror Etkes ons mee naar verschillende accommodaties. Tussen de kamelen staan daar\, midden in de woestijn\, enkele stacaravans. Dit is een voormalig outpost. Een nederzetting van kolonisten waar zelfs Israël lange tijd officieel geen ruimte aan bood. Maar het is ook een agro-toeristische trekpleister. Moslims\, vluchtelingen en andere Nederlanders met een migratieachtergrond worden gebruikt als zondebok in een strategie die erop gericht is om verdeeldheid en haat te zaaien. Ondertussen worden basisrechten\, zoals het recht op demonstratie\, vrije meningsuiting en fundamentele kritiek\, langzaam uitgehold en steunt Nederland oorlogen. Tegelijkertijd worden burgers afgeleid van de werkelijke problemen: de afbraak van de zorg\, het onderwijs\, betaalbare huisvesting en groeiende ongelijkheid. Dit is niet langer een politiek meningsverschil\, maar een strijd tussen democratie en onderdrukking\, tussen gelijkheid en uitsluiting. Extreemrechts nationalistisch heeft een duidelijke agenda: een samenleving waarin discriminatie genormaliseerd wordt en mensen worden beoordeeld op afkomst\, LGBTQI+\, beperking\, religie of huidskleur. De geschiedenis heeft ons geleerd dat een autoritair regime uiteindelijk iedereen raakt die afwijkt van zijn ‘waarheid’. Wij kunnen dit niet toestaan. De les uit het verleden is helder: wie zwijgt\, stemt toe. Global reductions in carbon emissions and local strategies to adapt to shrinking glaciers are essential. This World Water Day\, we must work together to put glacier preservation at the core of our plans to tackle climate change and the global water crisis.
