DESCRIPTION:De meteorenzwerm η-Aquariden bereikt op woensdag 7 mei 2025\, rond 16:00\, zijn maximum\, de meteoren van de η-Aquariden zijn snel en hebben nalichtende sporen. \nWanneer de radiant in het zenit zou staan\, zouden er van deze zwerm naar verwachting gemiddeld zo’n 30 meteoren per uur vallen. Rond 09:00 staat de radiant van de zwerm in het hoogste punt (op 37°) aan de hemel. Het beste moment om η-Aquariden waar te nemen is op 8 mei rond 04:45. De radiant van de zwerm staat dan ongeveer 14° boven de oostzuidoostelijke horizon\, dus niet zeer gunstig. Er is dan bij ons ieder uur niet meer dan één meteoor zichtbaar van deze zwerm. In totaal zijn er\, door meteoren van andere zwermen en sporadische meteoren\, bij donkere en heldere hemel circa 0–2 meteoren per uur zichtbaar. De Maan is voor ongeveer 80% verlicht en kan flink storen dit jaar; de zwakkere meteoren zullen hierdoor niet zichtbaar zijn. De Maan gaat om 04:30 onder\, waarna deze minder zal storen. Rond 05:15 gaat het schemeren en om 05:56 komt de Zon op. Over het algemeen zijn de de meteoren van een zwerm niet alleen op de dag van het maximum zichtbaar. Zo is gedurende circa 11 dagen rondom het maximum ruim de helft van het maximale aantal meteoren van de η-Aquariden te zien. Tot 25 dagen voor en na het maximum zijn nog meteoren van deze zwerm te herkennen. De zwerm heeft daarmee een vrij lange piek. Er zijn dus nog meer kansen\, voor het geval het in de nacht van het maximum niet helder is. Iedere dag verder weg van het maximum zijn er echter wel ongeveer 10% minder meteoren per uur te zien. DESCRIPTION:The orbit of the Kosmos 482 (Russian: Космос 482 meaning Cosmos 482) lander probe is decaying and it is expected to reenter Earth’s atmosphere some time from May 9 to May 10\, 2025\, centered on roughly May 10 at 09:30 (07:30 UTC). \nBecause the probe was designed to withstand entry into the Venus atmosphere\, it is possible the probe (or parts of it) will survive reentry at Earth and reach the surface. Kosmos 482\, launched March 31\, 1972\, at 04:02:33 UTC\, was an attempted Venus probe which failed to escape low Earth orbit. Its landing module\, which weighs 495 kilograms\, is highly likely to reach the surface of Earth in one piece as it was designed to withstand 300 G’s of acceleration and 100 atmospheres of pressure. Beginning in 1962\, the name Kosmos was given to Soviet spacecraft which remained in Earth orbit\, regardless of whether that was their intended final destination. The designation of this mission as an intended planetary probe is based on evidence from Soviet and non-Soviet sources and historical documents. Typically Soviet planetary missions were initially put into an Earth parking orbit as a launch platform with a rocket engine and attached probe. The probes were then launched toward their targets with an engine burn with a duration of roughly four minutes. If the engine misfired or the burn was not completed\, the probes would be left in Earth orbit and given a Kosmos designation. Kosmos 482 was launched by a Molniya booster on March 31\, 1972\, four days after the Venera 8 atmospheric probe and may have been similar in design and mission plan. After achieving an Earth parking orbit\, the spacecraft made an apparent attempt to launch into a Venus transfer trajectory. It separated into four pieces\, two of which remained in low Earth orbit and decayed within 48 hours into south New Zealand and two pieces (presumably the payload and detached engine unit) went into a higher 210 km × 9\,800 km\, 52 deg inclination orbit. \nAn incorrectly set timer caused the Blok L stage to cut off prematurely\, preventing the probe from escaping Earth orbit. The first of these pieces\, four red-hot 13.6-kilogram titanium alloy spheres\, with a diameter of 38 centimetres\, landed within a 16-kilometre (10 mi) radius of each other just outside Ashburton\, New Zealand at 1:00 AM on April 3\, 1972. The spheres scorched holes in crops and made deep indentations in the soil\, but no one was injured. A similarly shaped object was discovered near Eiffelton\, New Zealand\, in 1978. Space law required that the space junk be returned to its national owner\, but the Soviets denied knowledge or ownership of the satellite. Ownership therefore fell to the farmer upon whose property the satellite fell. The pieces were thoroughly analyzed by New Zealand scientists which determined that they were Soviet in origin because of manufacturing marks and the high-tech welding of the titanium. The scientists concluded that they were probably gas pressure vessels of a kind used in the launching rocket for a satellite or space vehicle and had decayed in the atmosphere. The last remaining piece in orbit\, the descent craft\, reentered on 10 May\, somewhere between 51.95 degrees north or south latitude. As of 10 May 2025\, the European Space Agency reported that the descent craft was not detected by radar during a predicted pass over Germany at 07:32 UTC (09:32 CEST). Based on this\, ESA concluded that reentry most likely already occurred earlier that morning. Later that day\, the Russian space agency Roscosmos stated that the lander had harmlessly impacted the eastern Indian Ocean at 06:24 UTC west of Jakarta\, Indonesia. DESCRIPTION:The REPowerEU Roadmap\, presented today by the European Commission\, paves the way to ensure the EU’s full energy independence from Russia. \nThe EU will end its dependency on Russian energy by stopping the import of Russian gas and oil and phasing out Russian nuclear energy\, while ensuring stable energy supplies and prices across the Union. Despite the significant progress achieved under the REPowerEU Plan and via sanctions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine\, in 2024 the EU saw a rebound in Russian gas imports. More coordinated actions are therefore needed\, as the EU’s overdependency on Russian energy imports is a security threat. The roadmap sets out a gradual removal of Russian oil\, gas and nuclear energy from the EU markets which will take place in a coordinated and secure manner as we advance our energy transition. The measures have been designed to preserve the security of the EU’s energy supply while limiting any impact on prices and markets. As of 2025\, the global LNG supplies are foreseen to grow rapidly\, while gas demand will decrease. With the full implementation of the energy transition framework and the Action Plan for Affordable Energy\, the EU is expected to replace up to 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas by 2030\, which means a decrease in demand by 40-50 bcm by 2027. DESCRIPTION:World Hand Hygiene Day campaign objectives: To recognize that people of all levels should work together to influence the culture/climate through clean hands knowledge and behaviour\, to meet the common goal of safety and quality in the health care organization. \nHand hygiene\, hand washing or handwashing is the act of cleaning one’s hands with soap or handwash and water to remove viruses/bacteria/microorganisms\, dirt\, grease\, or other harmful and unwanted substances stuck to the hands. Drying of the washed hands is part of the process as wet and moist hands are more easily recontaminated. If soap and water are unavailable\, hand sanitizer that is at least 60% (v/v) alcohol in water can be used instead\, unless hands are visibly excessively dirty or greasy. Hand hygiene is central to preventing the spread of infectious diseases in home and everyday life settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends washing hands for at least 20 seconds before and after certain activities. These include the five critical times during the day where washing hands with soap is important to reduce fecal-oral transmission of disease: after using the toilet (for urination\, defecation\, menstrual hygiene)\, after cleaning a child’s bottom (changing nappies)\, before feeding a child\, before eating and before/after preparing food or handling raw meat\, fish\, or poultry. When both hand washing and using hand sanitizer are not available\, hands can be cleaned with uncontaminated ash and clean water\, although the benefits and harms are uncertain for reducing the spread of viral or bacterial infections. However\, frequent hand washing can lead to skin damage due to drying of the skin. Moisturizing lotion is often recommended to keep the hands from drying out; dry skin can lead to skin damage which can increase the risk for the transmission of infection. \nLinks:\nWorld Hand Hygiene Day \nWorld Hand Hygiene Day 2025

DESCRIPTION:Op 5 mei wordt Bevrijdingsdag in Nederland gevierd\, de dag waarop het Duitse leger in Nederland capituleerde. \nOp 5 mei 1945 bespraken de Canadese generaal Charles Foulkes en de Duitse opperbevelhebber Johannes Blaskowitz in het bijzijn van Prins Bernhard (commandant van de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten) in Hotel De Wereld in Wageningen de capitulatie van de Duitse troepen in Nederland. Blaskowitz vroeg 24 uur bedenktijd. Een dag later (op 6 mei 1945 dus) werden de uitgewerkte voorwaarden van de capitulatie getekend in de naast het hotel gelegen aula van de Landbouwhogeschool. DESCRIPTION:Een comité van rijksambtenaren en oud-diplomaten heeft het initiatief genomen voor een alternatieve dodenherdenking op 4 mei 2025\, waarbij ook ruimte is om de slachtoffers van de genocide op de Palestijnen te herdenken. \nOp 4 mei\, de dag vóór 5 mei waarop in Nederland in 1945 officieel de Duitse bezetting eindigde\, herdenkt Nederland in Amsterdam de slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en van latere conflicten. Dat gebeurt met twee minuten stilte\, een kranslegging door de koning en koningin\, het Wilhelmus en vier kransenleggingen door Nederlandse autoriteiten. In deze vorm van herdenken nemen de Tweede Wereldoorlog en het koloniale verleden van Nederland een centrale plek in. Er is een voorname rol ingeruimd voor de staat en hoogwaardigheidsbekleders. De kransen zijn voor vijf groepen oorlogsslachtoffers: \n\nmensen die gevangen werden genomen en vermoord omdat zij in verzet kwamen;\nde meer dan 100.000 Joden\, Roma en Sinti die werden vervolgd en vermoord in concentratie- en vernietigingskampen;\nburgers die het leven verloren door onder andere oorlogsgeweld\, bombardementen\, willekeur\, verwaarlozing\, uitputting\, honger\, gebrek en schaarste;\nalle burgers omgebracht of omgekomen in Azië\, als gevolg van verzet\, internering\, oorlogsgeweld\, uitputting\, honger en dwangarbeid tijdens en direct na de Japanse bezetting en – sinds 2022\, na de excuses van de staat voor het koloniale verleden: de daaropvolgende koloniale oorlog;\nalle militairen en al het koopvaardijpersoneel\, omgekomen in dienst van het Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en nadien in oorlogssituaties en bij vredesoperaties.\n\nDe alternatieve herdenking is er voor iedereen die dit gevoel deelt als alternatief op 4 mei\, een meer inclusieve en actuele herdenkingsceremonie bieden die\, in nagedachtenis van de verschrikkingen van de Tweede Wereld- en koloniale oorlogen\, eerlijk leert van het verleden\, verantwoordelijkheid van Nederland erkent voor oorlogsleed toen én oorlogsleed nu\, en solidariteit toont met het verdriet en de pijn van (levende) oorlogsslachtoffers. Er is geen eindstreep. 30 minuten na de start begint de Catcher Car te rijden\, en deze haalt alle deelnemers één voor één in. Recreatieve hardlopers worden bijvoorbeeld na 5km al ingehaald\, terwijl de echte pro’s het misschien wel tot 50km volhouden. Heb jij al een doel in gedachten? De doelen calculator helpt je om de snelheid uit te rekenen die je aan moet houden. Jouw resultaat is dit keer dan ook niet de tijd\, maar de afstand die je hebt afgelegd. Het mooiste van deze race: 100% van al het inschrijfgeld en alle donaties gaat direct naar onderzoek naar ruggenmergletsel\, waar gezocht wordt naar een genezende behandeling voor ruggenmergletsel. De Wings for Life World Run is anders dan anders. Het is niet wat je zou verwachten van een race. Sowieso klinkt het startschot overal ter wereld op hetzelfde moment. Precies om 11u UTC. By proudly wearing and displaying blue and red ribbons pinned together or by participating in a memorial or recognition event\, we can show our gratitude to firefighters everywhere. The IFFD ribbons are linked to colours symbolic of the main elements firefighters work with – red for fire and blue for water. These colours also are internationally recognised as representing emergency service. Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years\, in others it is many selfless years working in the industry. In all cases it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life. International Firefighters’ Day is a time where the world’s community can recognise and honour the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. DESCRIPTION:Permaculture is an approach to land management and philosophy that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems. \nIt includes a set of design principles derived using whole systems thinking and uses these principles in fields such as regenerative agriculture\, rewilding\, and community resilience. Permaculture originally came from “permanent agriculture”\, but was later adjusted to mean “permanent culture”\, incorporating social aspects as inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka‘s natural farming. The term was coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in 1978\, who formulated the concept in opposition to Western industrialized methods and in congruence with Indigenous or traditional knowledge. \nPermaculture has many branches including ecological design\, ecological engineering\, regenerative design\, environmental design\, and construction. It also includes integrated water resources management that develops sustainable architecture\, and regenerative and self-maintained habitat and agricultural systems modeled from natural ecosystems. Permaculture has been implemented and gained widespread visibility throughout the world as an agricultural and architectural design system and as a guiding life principle or philosophy.
