DESCRIPTION:De Roparun (“Rotterdam Parijs run”) is een non-stop estafetteloop die sinds 1992 wordt gehouden\, voorheen vond de loop plaats tussen Rotterdam en Parijs\, tegenwoordig zijn er twee routes: vanuit Frankrijk\, met Clastres als startplaats\, en Enschede naar Rotterdam. \nIn het pinksterweekeinde\, van zaterdagmiddag tot en met maandagmiddag\, moeten de deelnemers een afstand van ongeveer 500 kilometer afleggen. Tot 2004 liepen de deelnemers\, destijds nog in het Hemelvaartweekend\, van Rotterdam naar Parijs\, maar sinds 2004 start de run in Parijs en is de finish op de Coolsingel in Rotterdam. Al vanaf het eerste jaar is het ophalen van geld het hoofddoel van deze sportieve prestatie. Food is the starting point for our energy\, our health and our well-being. DESCRIPTION:The Budapest Pride Community Festival is an annual event\, organized by two sub-projects: festival programs and festival communication. \nThe festival is a nationwide series of events that starts with the opening ceremony and ends with the march. Every year\, those interested can take part in countless colorful programs\, and program organizers include civil organizations\, welcoming spaces\, LGBTQ associations\, friendship groups\, psychologists\, informal groups\, private individuals\, and the list goes on. Most of the events are organized in the capital\, but every year more and more settlements outside Budapest join. In 2025\, the Budapest Pride Parade will be 30 years old. The Budapest Pride Community will celebrate the work and achievements of the past 30 years\, but also the fact that LGBTQ people have been part of Hungarian society not only for 30 years\, but since the beginning. Every year the Budapest Pride March is organised in close cooperation with the police\, and 2025 will be the seventh time we march without barriers and without security access points. The number of counter-demonstrators has been decreasing year by year\, and there have been no physical atrocities for quite some time. They hope that on the 30th anniversary more people will join us than ever before. The march will end with the now traditional Rainbow Party in Budapest Park\, the biggest LGBTQ party in the country. DESCRIPTION:Op vrijdag 6 juni 2025 rijden er in heel Nederland geen NS-treinen als gevolg van een staking in Midden-Nederland georganiseerd door vakbonden. \nEen groot deel van de treinen rijdt door de provincie Utrecht. Ook wordt vanuit Utrecht het landelijke NS-treinverkeer aangestuurd\, hierdoor rijden er in het hele land geen treinen. De ontevredenheid en actiebereidheid onder het NS-personeel is groot. Dat bleek tijdens de ledenraadpleging die de FNV de afgelopen weken heeft gehouden. Ruim 90% stemde volmondig voor stakingen. De NS heeft niet gereageerd op het ultimatum van de vakbonden voor een betere cao en daarmee zijn stakingen niet meer af te wenden. Spoorwegpersoneel verdient beter: op zijn minst compensatie van de inflatie. Terwijl de leden van de Raad van Bestuur van NS er vorig jaar ruim €20.000 bijkregen\, moeten de medewerkers het doen met een loonbod dat met 2\,5% ver onder inflatieniveau ligt. Daarbij komt dat de werkgever geen duimbreed toegeeft op cruciale arbeidsvoorwaarden als de zwaarwerkregeling en onregelmatige diensten. Dit alles zorgt voor een steeds hogere werkdruk. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat het ziekteverzuim bij de NS torenhoog is. Zonder verbeteringen in de cao zullen ook reizigers daar last van gaan krijgen\, want het ziekteverzuim heeft logischerwijs invloed op dienstverlening en dienstregeling. Staken is het laatste drukmiddel. WijReizenSamen steunt hun strijd voor betere arbeidsvoorwaarden\, waaronder een betere zwaarwerkregeling (RVU)\, gelijke arbeidsvoorwaarden voor gelijke omstandigheden en voor priodagen thuis en een vuilwerkregeling. Ook verdienen NS-medewerkers een fatsoenlijke beloning. DESCRIPTION:Dertig miljoen mensen en ontelbaar veel planten en dieren zijn afhankelijk van de Amazonerivier\, maar nu wil de Braziliaanse president er naar olie laten boren. \nAls deze nieuwe olieboringen niet worden tegengehouden\, kan er straks zwart gif van de rivier naar het Amazonewoud lekken. De Braziliaanse overheid kent de risico’s en is verdeeld. Maar president Lula staat erop dat er 47 nieuwe olieboorplaatsen komen waar de Amazonerivier uitmondt in de oceaan. Dit bedreigt de toekomst van de grootste rivier ter wereld\, het kloppende hart van dit ongelooflijk belangrijke regenwoud. Tot nu toe is één groot project tegengehouden vanwege zorgen over mogelijke milieuschade\, maar Lula staat op het punt een groot deel van de regio open te stellen voor olieconcerns. Er is een enorme\, wereldwijde oproep nodig om hem te laten zien dat dit desastreus kan zijn voor het Amazonegebied én voor zijn reputatie. Samen kan deze nieuwe fase van grootschalige olieboringen nog tegengehouden. Geen enkele rivier op aarde vervoert meer water dan de Amazonerivier. Meer dan dertig miljoen mensen zijn ervan afhankelijk\, waaronder Inheemse groepen in verschillende landen. Dat alles hangt nu aan een zijden draadje. De risico’s zijn duidelijk. In 2024 zijn er meer dan 731 ongelukken geregistreerd tijdens proefboringen op zee. Dat zijn gemiddeld twee ongelukken per dag. Als dit nieuwe boorgebied er komt\, worden de gevaren alleen maar groter en kan vergiftiging van het Amazonewoud het gevolg zijn. En het zendt ook nog eens een heel verkeerd signaal uit: dat Brazilië inzet op méér olieboringen net nu we zo snel mogelijk van fossiele brandstoffen af moeten. President Lula is in 2025 gastheer van de grootste klimaattop ter wereld. DESCRIPTION:Fisheries provide a vital source of food\, employment\, recreation\, trade and economic well-being for people throughout the world. \nIn a world of growing population and persistent hunger\, fish has emerged as an important commodity for the achievement of food security. However\, efforts by the international community to ensure the sustainability of fisheries are being seriously compromised by illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing activities. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing activities are responsible for the loss of 11–26 million tonnes of fish each year\, which is estimated to have an economic value of US$10–23 billion. To curtail this impact\, Target 4 of Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Agenda adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly\, specifically urges the international community to “effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing\, illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices” by 2020. \nMeeting this ambitious target requires strong awareness-raising efforts to draw the attention of the general public to the negative impacts of illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing activities\, an activity in which FAO has been actively engaged. To promote long-term conservation and sustainable use of fisheries resources the 1995 FAO Conference adopted the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. The Code is voluntary and sets out principles and international standards of behavior for responsible practices with a view to ensuring the effective conservation\, management and development of living aquatic resources\, with due respect for the ecosystem and biodiversity. In 2009 the FAO Conference adopted the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent\, Deter and Eliminate Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. The Agreement is binding and stipulates minimum port State measures to prevent\, deter and eliminate illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing. DESCRIPTION:Israël kreeg sinds 2007 meer dan 3 miljard euro uit Horizon Europe\, een subsidiepot voor wetenschappelijke projecten die het concurrentievermogen van de EU kunnen vergroten; sinds 2020 moeten die projecten een civiel doel hebben\, ook als het gaat om onderzoek naar dual use-materialen en technieken\, die op papier ook bruikbaar zijn voor militair gebruik. \nUit data-onderzoek blijkt dat 28 lopende Nederlands-Israëlische projecten toewerken naar technologieën die mogelijk een militaire toepassing kunnen krijgen. Twaalf van deze projecten zijn begonnen na 7 oktober 2023. De TU Delft werkt bijvoorbeeld in twee projecten samen met Israel Aerospace Industries\, een staatsbedrijf dat civiele en militaire lucht- en ruimtevaartsystemen ontwikkelt. IAI wil de met Delft ontwikkelde technologie ‘zo snel als mogelijk’ toepassen. De Europese Commissie\, verantwoordelijk voor de Horizon-subsidies\, verifieert niet of het eindproduct van wetenschappelijk onderzoek militair wordt ingezet. Wetenschappers met gewetensbezwaar kunnen niet zomaar stoppen met een project vanwege de zware (financiële) consequenties van contractbreuk. The Investigative Desk stelde een lijst samen van alle onderzoeksprojecten van Nederlandse universiteiten en Israëlische bedrijven en kennisinstellingen. DESCRIPTION:Donderdagavond 5 juni 2025\, een paar weken vóór de NAVO-top in Nederland\, gaan oud-minister Jan Pronk\, Paul van Hooft\, onderzoeksleider bij RAND Europe en PAX-directeur Rolien Sasse in gesprek over kernwapens: een broodnodig gesprek over dit massavernietigingswapen\, en hoe we er vanaf kunnen komen. \nWaarom zouden we er vanaf moeten\, welke kansen zijn er momenteel op kernontwapening\, waarom wordt er steeds vaker gesproken over een Europese kernbom\, wat zouden de implicaties hiervan zijn en wat is (nog) de waarde van kernontwapeningsverdragen. Over deze vragen gaan we in discussie\, met ruimte voor vragen uit de zaal. Omdat kernwapens massavernietigingswapens zijn\, die ongekend leed veroorzaken als ze daadwerkelijk worden ingezet\, is discussie hierover noodzakelijk. Al helemaal in een tijd van hoog opgelopen geopolitieke spanningen en met oorlog in Europa. Het is de hoogste tijd om het licht te schijnen op kernwapens\, temeer omdat deze wapens al decennia op Nederlandse bodem liggen. DESCRIPTION:It is a sad reality that in situations where armed conflict breaks out\, it is the most vulnerable members of societies – namely children\, who are most affected by the consequences of war. \nThe six most common violations are recruitment and use of children in war\, killing\, sexual violence\, abduction\, attacks on schools and hospitals\, and denial of humanitarian access. On 19 August 1982\, at its emergency special session on the question of Palestine\, the General Assembly\, “appalled at the great number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children victims of Israel’s acts of aggression”\, decided to commemorate 4 June of each year as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The purpose of the day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical\, mental and emotional abuse. This day affirms the UN’s commitment to protect the rights of children. Its work is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child\, the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. \nFollowing on the ground-breaking Graça Machel report\, which drew global attention to the devastating impact of armed conflict on children\, in 1997 The General Assembly adopted 51/77 Resolution on the Rights of the Child. It was a landmark development in efforts to improve the protection of children in conflict situations. This signalled the start of a new consensus among Member States\, on the need for dedicated attention\, advocacy and coordinated effort\, by the international community\, to address the vulnerabilities and violations faced by children in conflict-related situations. Resolution 51/77 built on existing General Assembly efforts to protect the rights of children\, including through the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocol\, and the annual Rights of the Child resolutions. And it established the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. \nIn recent years\, the number of violations perpetrated against children have\, in many conflict zones\, increased. More needs to be done to protect the 250 million children living in countries and areas affected by conflict. More must be done to protect children from targeting by violent extremists\, to promote international humanitarian and human rights law\, and to ensure accountability for violations of the rights of children. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides us with the universal masterplan to secure a better future for children.
