SUMMARY:Staking spoorwegpersoneel NS / Petitie solidariteit
DESCRIPTION:Op vrijdag 13 juni 2025 rijden er in Noord- en Zuid-Nederland geen NS-treinen als gevolg van een staking georganiseerd door vakbonden FNV Spoor\, CNV en VVMC. \nDe ontevredenheid en actiebereidheid onder het NS-personeel is groot. Dat bleek tijdens de ledenraadpleging die de FNV de afgelopen weken heeft gehouden. Ruim 90% stemde volmondig voor stakingen. De NS heeft niet gereageerd op het ultimatum van de vakbonden voor een betere cao en daarmee zijn stakingen niet meer af te wenden. Spoorwegpersoneel verdient beter: op zijn minst compensatie van de inflatie. Terwijl de leden van de Raad van Bestuur van NS er vorig jaar ruim €20.000 bijkregen\, moeten de medewerkers het doen met een loonbod dat met 2\,5% ver onder inflatieniveau ligt. Daarbij komt dat de werkgever geen duimbreed toegeeft op cruciale arbeidsvoorwaarden als de zwaarwerkregeling en onregelmatige diensten. Dit alles zorgt voor een steeds hogere werkdruk. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat het ziekteverzuim bij de NS torenhoog is. Zonder verbeteringen in de cao zullen ook reizigers daar last van gaan krijgen\, want het ziekteverzuim heeft logischerwijs invloed op dienstverlening en dienstregeling. Staken is het laatste drukmiddel. WijReizenSamen steunt hun strijd voor betere arbeidsvoorwaarden\, waaronder een betere zwaarwerkregeling (RVU)\, gelijke arbeidsvoorwaarden voor gelijke omstandigheden en voor priodagen thuis en een vuilwerkregeling. Ook verdienen NS-medewerkers een fatsoenlijke beloning. DESCRIPTION:Oerol is een jaarlijks terugkerend tiendaags cultureel festival in juni\, dat wordt gehouden op het Nederlandse eiland Terschelling. \nDit festival werd in 1981 opgericht door Joop Mulder\, destijds eigenaar van café De Stoep in Midsland. De naam van het Festival is afgeleid van het woord “overal” in Terschellings. Oerol wordt geprogrammeerd aan het begin van de zomer\, als het eiland volop in het groen staat. Heel Terschelling vormt de locatie voor het Festival\, waarbij intensief wordt opgetrokken met Staatsbosbeheer\, een van de partners. Op Oerol is ruimte voor het experiment en jonge makers\, maar er is ook plek voor gevestigde groepen die die in première gaan op Oerol. Ieder jaar komen bezoekers naar de Nederlandse en internationale theatervoorstellingen\, muziek\, Expedities\, Talks en Pop-up Performance tijdens deze tijdelijke maatschappij op een eiland. DESCRIPTION:Vrijdag de dertiende wordt door veel mensen als een ongeluksdag beschouwd\, wegens de combinatie van vrijdag en dertien. \nEr is een reeks speculatieve verklaringen voor vrijdag de dertiende als ongeluksdag\, maar deze berusten gewoonlijk op interpretatie achteraf: \n\nDe oudste gebeurtenis die in de joods–christelijke traditie naar onheil op vrijdag de dertiende zou verwijzen is de tiende plaag van Egypte.\nHet allereerste Pascha was gepland op een sjabbat\, zaterdag de 14e Nisan. Die sabbat begint echter op vrijdagmiddag 18:00 en omvat in de westerse tijdsopvatting de nacht van vrijdag de 13e. In de joodse tijdsopvatting eindigde de dag echter met de avond\, zodat de vrijdag er niets mee te maken had. Volgens het Bijbelboek Exodus stierven in die nacht alle eerstgeborenen van mens en dier.\nEen andere verklaring is dat vrijdag de dag is waarop Jezus werd gekruisigd. Als die dag dan ook nog samenvalt met het ongeluksgetal 13\, moet deze dag volgens het volksgeloof extra ongeluk veroorzaken.\nDe vrijdagen kunnen ook een kwade naam gekregen hebben omdat de Romeinen op die dag door doodvonnissen voltrokken. Ook in Engeland werd de doodstraf op een vrijdag voltrokken.\nDat ‘dertien’ een negatieve klank had in de christelijke wereld is sinds de zeventiende eeuw mogelijk terug te brengen tot het Laatste Avondmaal van Christus\, waar dertien personen aanzaten. Wat volgde was het verraad door het vertrek van een dertiende persoon (Judas) en daarna de kruisiging van Christus. In het christendom is twaalf sowieso het getal van de perfectie\, denk aan de twaalf stammen van Israël\, de twaalf discipelen en 144.000 uitverkorenen (12×12). DESCRIPTION:Albinism is a rare\, non-contagious\, genetically inherited difference present at birth\, congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair\, feathers\, scales and skin and reddish pink or blue eyes. \nIn almost all types of albinism\, both parents must carry the gene for it to be passed on\, even if they do not have albinism themselves. The condition is found in both sexes regardless of ethnicity and in all countries of the world. Albinism results in a lack of pigmentation (melanin) in the hair\, skin and eyes\, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result\, almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and are prone to developing skin cancer. There is no cure for the absence of melanin that is central to albinism. While numbers vary\, it is estimated that in North America and Europe 1 in every 17\,000 to 20\,000 people have some form of albinism. The condition is much more prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa\, with estimates of 1 in 1\,400 people being affected in Tanzania  and prevalence as high as 1 in 1\,000 reported for select populations in Zimbabwe and for other specific ethnic groups in Southern Africa. \nThe lack of melanin means persons with albinism are highly vulnerable to developing skin cancer. In some countries\, a majority of persons with albinism die from skin cancer between 30 and 40 years of age. Skin cancer is highly preventable when persons with albinism enjoy their right to health. This includes access to regular health checks\, sunscreen\, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing. In a significant number of countries\, these life-saving means are unavailable or inaccessible to them. Consequently\, in the realm of development measures\, persons with albinism have been and are among those “left furthest behind.” Therefore\, they ought to be targeted for human rights interventions in the manner envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals. \nDue to a lack of melanin in the skin and eyes\, persons with albinism often have permanent visual impairment. They also face discrimination due to their skin colour; as such\, they are often subject to multiple and intersecting discrimination on the grounds of both disability and colour. People with albinism face multiple forms of discrimination worldwide. Albinism is still profoundly misunderstood\, socially and medically. The physical appearance of persons with albinism is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition\, which foster their marginalization and social exclusion. This leads to various forms of stigma and discrimination. \nIn some communities\, erroneous beliefs and myths\, heavily influenced by superstition\, put the security and lives of persons with albinism at constant risk. These beliefs and myths are centuries old and are present in cultural attitudes and practices around the world. While it has been reported that persons with albinism globally face discrimination and stigma\, information on cases of physical attacks against persons with albinism is mainly available from countries in Africa. \nPersons with albinism face more severe forms of discrimination and violence in those regions\, where the majority of the general population are relatively dark-skinned. In other words\, a greater degree of contrast in pigmentation often gives rise to a greater degree of discrimination. That appears to be the case in some sub-Saharan African countries where albinism is shrouded in myth and dangerous and erroneous beliefs. The figures on violations against persons with albinism are telling. There have been hundreds of cases of attacks and killings of persons with albinism reported in 28 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in the past decade. The attacks have several root causes including ignorance\, longstanding stigma\, poverty and most abhorrently\, harmful practices emanating from manifestation of beliefs in witchcraft. The alarming reality is that these horrendous practices continue today. \nThe manner in which discrimination faced by persons with albinism manifests itself\, and its severity\, vary from region to region. In the western world\, including North America\, Europe and Australia\, discrimination often consists of name-calling\, persistent teasing and bullying of children with albinism. Dit festival is het hoogtepunt van het Road to Summit-programma in Den Haag. Road to Summit is een stadbreed programma dat in januari is gelanceerd door de Gemeente Den Haag. Het brengt een breed scala aan activiteiten en evenementen samen die de thema’s vrede en rechtvaardigheid belichten in aanloop naar de NAVO-top in Den Haag in juni. Alle Just Peace Festival-activiteiten blijven bereikbaar tijdens de NAVO-top. Je moet wel rekening houden met langere reistijden. Van dinsdag 24 tot en met woensdag 25 juni ontvangt Den Haag de NAVO-top. DESCRIPTION:Een wereldwijde coalitie van al 22 landen over de hele wereld\, bestaande uit duizenden wereldburgers\, grassroots-groepen en NGO’s\, is verontwaardigd over het lijden van het Palestijnse volk\, over de genocide in Gaza en over de voortdurende bezetting van Palestina en wil dat uiten middels een protestmars van 48 kilometer naar de grens van Gaza. \nDeze wereldwijde beweging is ontstaan ​​uit een initiatief van verschillende personen die een mars voor wereldburgers wilden organiseren aan de grens met Rafah\, omdat we de wrede behandeling van Palestijnen in Gaza niet langer kunnen verdragen. De beweging werd gelijktijdig in verschillende landen opgezet – toen de organisatoren elkaar leerden kennen en besloten om hun krachten te bundelen om zich te verenigen. Er zijn twee afzonderlijke wereldwijde marsinitiatieven. De mars vindt plaats op 15 juni 2025\, verzamelen vanaf 12 juni in Cairo\, Egypte. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2025 Theme: Progress is clear\, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts! The 2025 World Day will focus on a key milestone: the release of the 2025 global estimates and trends of child labour. This joint report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will offer a comprehensive assessment of global progress toward the elimination of child labour. Although the detailed data are not yet available\, the estimates and trends identified will guide policy debates and calls for renewed commitment and investment. On this World Day\, ILO calls for full ratification of ILO Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age and the implementation of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.  Their effective ratification and implementation remain essential to achieving the goals set by the Durban Call to Action\, which urges us to aim for for strengthened prevention\, protection\, and partnerships to eliminate child labour. DESCRIPTION:The Dutch city of Amsterdam thought it could break a decade-long trend of implementing discriminatory algorithms\, its failure raises the question: can these programs ever be fair? \n\nThere’s an ongoing debate about whether algorithms can ever be fair when tasked with making decisions that shape people’s lives. Over the past several years of efforts to use artificial intelligence in this way\, examples of collateral damage have mounted: nonwhite job applicants weeded out of job application pools in the US\, families being wrongly flagged for child abuse investigations in Japan\, and low-income residents being denied food subsidies in India. Proponents of these assessment systems argue that they can create more efficient public services by doing more with less and\, in the case of welfare systems specifically\, reclaim money that is allegedly being lost from the public purse. In practice\, many were poorly designed from the start. They sometimes factor in personal characteristics in a way that leads to discrimination\, and sometimes they have been deployed without testing for bias or effectiveness. In general\, they offer few options for people to challenge—or even understand—the automated actions directly affecting how they live. \nWhen Amsterdam set out to create an AI model to detect potential welfare fraud\, officials thought it could break a decade-plus trend of discriminatory algorithms that had harmed people all over the world. City officials in the welfare department believed they could build technology that would prevent fraud while protecting citizens’ rights. They followed these emerging best practices and invested a vast amount of time and money in a project that eventually processed live welfare applications. But in their pilot\, they found that the system they’d developed was still not fair and effective. Why? Lighthouse Reports\, MIT Technology Review\, and the Dutch newspaper Trouw have gained unprecedented access to the system to try to find out. It helps children develop the cognitive\, physical\, creative\, social\, and emotional skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Restricting opportunities for play directly impedes a child’s well-being and development. In educational settings\, play-based learning has been recognized as an effective approach to engage students actively in the learning process. It helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant\, thereby enhancing motivation and retention of information. Moreover\, play is considered to have a positive impact on promoting tolerance\, resilience\, and facilitating social inclusion\, conflict prevention\, and peacebuilding. In recognition of this\, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has enshrined play as a fundamental right of every child under Article 31. The international day creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. \nChildren learn best through play. Play creates powerful learning opportunities across all areas of development – intellectual\, social\, emotional and physical. Through play\, children learn to forge connections with others\, build a wide range of leadership skills\, develop resilience\, navigate relationships and social challenges as well as conquer their fears. When children play\, they feel safe. Children play to make sense of the world around them. More generally\, play provides a platform for children to express and develop imagination and creativity\, which are key skills critical for the technology-driven and innovative world we live in. Playful interactions contribute to the well-being and positive mental health of parents\, caregivers and children. When humanitarian crises turn a child’s world upside down\, it is in play that children can both find safety and respite from adverse experience while also being able to explore and process their experiences with the world. When children are driven from their homes by war\, conflict\, and displacement\, access to nurturing relationships with parents/caregivers and peers are critical buffers from the effects of violence\, distress and other adverse experiences. Play comforts and soothes children. To encourage playful interactions between parents/caregivers and children\, governments and other stakeholders need to create an enabling environment. The theme for 2025 International Day of Play is “Choose Play – Every Day”. Het omvat een ranglijst van alle VN-lidstaten die het VN-Verdrag inzake de Rechten van het Kind hebben geratificeerd en waarvoor voldoende gegevens beschikbaar zijn\, anno 2025 maken in totaal 194 landen deel uit van de Index. De geestelijke gezondheid en het mentaal welzijn van kinderen en adolescenten bereikt wereldwijd een kritiek niveau. Het KidsRights Index 2025 rapport vraagt aandacht voor deze problematiek en voor het verontrustende verband met problematisch gebruik van sociale media. Bovendien blijkt uit het indexrapport van dit jaar dat de score van Nederland op het waarmaken van kinderrechten in het algemeen verder daalt. DESCRIPTION:Het (voormalig) kabinet geeft geen ene moer om onderwijs en wetenschap\, in de voorjaarsnota zijn zelfs extra bezuinigingen aangekondigd: Dit is geen bezuiniging meer\, dit is een regelrechte sloopoperatie. \n25.000 mensen stonden er op het Malieveld\, en tijdens de estafettestakingen kwamen nog eens 32.500 mensen in actie. Toch gaat het kabinet door met de sloop van ons onderwijs: in de voorjaarsnota zijn zelfs extra bezuinigingen van 400 miljoen aangekondigd. Daarom wordt op 10 juni 2025 opnieuw door medewerkers en studenten in het hoger onderwijs het werk neergelegd\, de locatie van de stakingsmanifestatie is (verplaatst naar) De Dam in Amsterdam. De eis blijft staan: alle bezuinigingen moeten van tafel. SUMMARY:Staking spoorwegpersoneel NS / Petitie solidariteit
DESCRIPTION:Op dinsdag 10 juni 2025 rijden er in heel Nederland geen NS-treinen als gevolg van een staking in West-Nederland georganiseerd door vakbonden. \nDe NS heeft besloten om in heel Nederland geen treinen te laten. De ontevredenheid en actiebereidheid onder het NS-personeel is groot. Dat bleek tijdens de ledenraadpleging die de FNV de afgelopen weken heeft gehouden. Ruim 90% stemde volmondig voor stakingen. De NS heeft niet gereageerd op het ultimatum van de vakbonden voor een betere cao en daarmee zijn stakingen niet meer af te wenden. Spoorwegpersoneel verdient beter: op zijn minst compensatie van de inflatie. Terwijl de leden van de Raad van Bestuur van NS er vorig jaar ruim €20.000 bijkregen\, moeten de medewerkers het doen met een loonbod dat met 2\,5% ver onder inflatieniveau ligt. Daarbij komt dat de werkgever geen duimbreed toegeeft op cruciale arbeidsvoorwaarden als de zwaarwerkregeling en onregelmatige diensten. Dit alles zorgt voor een steeds hogere werkdruk. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat het ziekteverzuim bij de NS torenhoog is. Zonder verbeteringen in de cao zullen ook reizigers daar last van gaan krijgen\, want het ziekteverzuim heeft logischerwijs invloed op dienstverlening en dienstregeling. Staken is het laatste drukmiddel. WijReizenSamen steunt hun strijd voor betere arbeidsvoorwaarden\, waaronder een betere zwaarwerkregeling (RVU)\, gelijke arbeidsvoorwaarden voor gelijke omstandigheden en voor priodagen thuis en een vuilwerkregeling. Ook verdienen NS-medewerkers een fatsoenlijke beloning. DESCRIPTION:The Conference of State Parties is an annual event organised by the United Nations\, participants discuss the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. \nParticipants include representatives of the State Parties (countries and regional organisations that ratified the Convention)\, civil society organisations (such as organisations of persons with disabilities) and disability rights experts (such as the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities and academics). The 18th session of the Conference of State Parties to the UN CRPD (COSP18) will take place from 10-12 June 2025 in New York. DESCRIPTION:Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) are the world’s most widely used weed control agents. Public health concerns have increased since the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen in 2015. \nTo further investigate the health effects of glyphosate and GBHs\, the Ramazzini Institute launched the Global Glyphosate Study (GGS)\, which is designed to test a wide range of toxicological outcomes. Reported in the research ‘Carcinogenic effects of long-term exposure from prenatal life to glyphosate and glyphosate-based herbicides in Sprague–Dawley rats‘ are the results of the carcinogenicity arm of the GGS. Glyphosate and two GBHs\, Roundup Bioflow used in the European Union (EU) and RangerPro used in the U.S.\, were administered to male and female Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats\, beginning at gestational day 6 (via maternal exposure) through 104 weeks of age. Glyphosate was administered through drinking water at three doses: the EU acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0.5 mg/kg body weight/day\, 5 mg/kg body weight/day and the EU no-observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of 50 mg/kg body weight/day. The two GBH formulations were administered at the same glyphosate-equivalent doses. \nIn all 3 treatment groups\, statistically significant dose-related increased trends or increased incidences of benign and malignant tumors at multiple anatomic sites were observed compared to historical and concurrent controls. These tumors arose in haemolymphoreticular tissues (leukemia)\, skin\, liver\, thyroid\, nervous system\, ovary\, mammary gland\, adrenal glands\, kidney\, urinary bladder\, bone\, endocrine pancreas\, uterus and spleen (hemangiosarcoma). Increased incidences occurred in both sexes. Most of these involved tumors that are rare in SD rats (background incidence < 1%) with 40% of leukemias deaths in the treated groups occurring before 52 weeks of age and increased early deaths were also observed for other solid tumors. \nGlyphosate and GBHs at exposure levels corresponding to the EU ADI and the EU NOAEL caused dose-related increases in incidence of multiple benign and malignant tumors in SD rats of both sexes. Early-life onset and mortality were observed for multiple tumors. These results provide robust evidence supporting IARC’s conclusion that there is “sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity [of glyphosate] in experimental animals”.
