DESCRIPTION:Building on a rapidly growing global consensus\, in 2018 the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD) started a worldwide dengue awareness campaign\, which included calling on the UN and WHO to designate a World Dengue Day. \nIts petition for a World Dengue Day has to date garnered over 26\,500 signatures\, endorsed by a growing and global collective of patients\, policy makers\, researchers\, professionals and advocates from over 110 countries\, who share the clear goal of reducing the burden of dengue around the world. In addition\, ISNTD also convened an international and multi-sectoral Dengue Advisory Group\, comprised of partners from Ministries of Health\, research and academia\, NGOs and civic society\, to guide this campaign. Such a move is not without precedent. On 15 June 2011\, ASEAN Health Ministers first declared that day — and each subsequent 15 June — ASEAN Dengue Day. This important annual event allows ASEAN members\, in coordination with WHO\, to consolidate dengue prevention and control measures. \nThe World Dengue Day campaign is aiming to achieve the same – on an international scale given the rapidly growing global threat of dengue. Growing population densities\, unplanned urban development\, poor water storage and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions are all common factors that contribute to the worsening burden of this mosquito-borne disease – not just for ASEAN\, but for many countries around the world. The disease has significant impact on the socio-economic status of every country. Tackling dengue is everyone’s concern. ISNTD-ADVA World Dengue Day Forum – Cross Sector Synergies marks a day that all governments\, civil societies\, public and private sectors\, schools\, universities and citizens\, can devote to dengue awareness-raising actions. Onder de deelnemers zijn er ook mensen met een eigen vluchtverhaal en organisaties die zich dagelijks inzetten voor dit thema. Dit zorgt onderweg voor mooie ontmoetingen en gesprekken. DESCRIPTION:World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is celebrated every year by people around the world on June 14\, it is celebrated on the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on June 14\, 1868\, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system. \nWBDD was organised for the first time in 2005\, by a joint initiative of World Health Organisation\, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products\, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary\, life-saving gifts of blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps and save millions of lives every year. It can help patients who suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life\, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential\, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products can help reduce rates of death and disability due to severe bleeding during delivery and after childbirth. In many countries\, there is not an adequate supply of safe blood\, and blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available\, while also ensuring its quality and safety. An adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid blood donors. The WHO’s goal is for all countries to obtain all their blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 2020. In 2014\, 60 countries have their national blood supplies based on 99-100% voluntary unpaid blood donations\, with 73 countries still largely dependent on family and paid donors. \n2025 theme: Give blood\, give hope: together we save lives. DESCRIPTION:Kappen met Kolen en Extinction Rebellion voeren elke vrijdag actie tegen het gebruik van kolen in Nederland. \nOmdat kolen de klimaatopwarming versnellen en we juist zouden moeten stoppen met kolen. Desondanks kiest de overheid ervoor kolencentrales langer open te houden. Extinction Rebellion eist van de Nederlandse overheid dat zo snel mogelijk wordt gestopt met het winnen\, transporteren en  verstoken van steenkool\, de meest schadelijke fossiele brandstof voor het klimaat\, het milieu en de gezondheid. De dag begint ’s ochtends om 08:00 een Zoom-meeting om te kijken wat men die dag gaan doen en waar ze naar toe gaan. ‘Kappen met kolen’ is een campagne die zich richt op het beëindigen van het gebruik van steenkool\, de meest schadelijke fossiele brandstof voor milieu (bij de winning)\, klimaat (CO2-uitstoot) en gezondheid (bij verbranding komen PAK’s en fijnstof vrij). Hoewel Nederland nog maar vier kolencentrales heeft\, spelen we een grote rol in de doorvoer van steenkool richting Duitsland en Midden-Europa: zo worden via de havens van Rotterdam en Amsterdam megatonnen steenkool – deels bloedkolen afkomstig uit o.a. Colombia – overgeslagen. Regelmatig blokkeert Kappen met kolen daarom kolentreinen richting Duitsland. Daarnaast richten ze zich op Tata Steel IJmuiden\, een grootverbruiker van steenkool – waarmee ijzer uit ijzererts wordt gewonnen – en de grootste vervuiler en uitstoter van Nederland. Er wordt samen opgetrokken met activisten en actiegroepen uit onder meer Colombia en Duitsland. Kolen hebben in Nederland het kleinste aandeel in de fossiele energiemix maar veroorzaken de grootste schade. DESCRIPTION:Op vrijdag 13 juni 2025 rijden er in Noord- en Zuid-Nederland geen NS-treinen als gevolg van een staking georganiseerd door vakbonden FNV Spoor\, CNV en VVMC. \nDe ontevredenheid en actiebereidheid onder het NS-personeel is groot. Dat bleek tijdens de ledenraadpleging die de FNV de afgelopen weken heeft gehouden. Ruim 90% stemde volmondig voor stakingen. De NS heeft niet gereageerd op het ultimatum van de vakbonden voor een betere cao en daarmee zijn stakingen niet meer af te wenden. Spoorwegpersoneel verdient beter: op zijn minst compensatie van de inflatie. Terwijl de leden van de Raad van Bestuur van NS er vorig jaar ruim €20.000 bijkregen\, moeten de medewerkers het doen met een loonbod dat met 2\,5% ver onder inflatieniveau ligt. Daarbij komt dat de werkgever geen duimbreed toegeeft op cruciale arbeidsvoorwaarden als de zwaarwerkregeling en onregelmatige diensten. Dit alles zorgt voor een steeds hogere werkdruk. Het is dan ook niet vreemd dat het ziekteverzuim bij de NS torenhoog is. Zonder verbeteringen in de cao zullen ook reizigers daar last van gaan krijgen\, want het ziekteverzuim heeft logischerwijs invloed op dienstverlening en dienstregeling. Staken is het laatste drukmiddel. WijReizenSamen steunt hun strijd voor betere arbeidsvoorwaarden\, waaronder een betere zwaarwerkregeling (RVU)\, gelijke arbeidsvoorwaarden voor gelijke omstandigheden en voor priodagen thuis en een vuilwerkregeling. Ook verdienen NS-medewerkers een fatsoenlijke beloning. DESCRIPTION:Oerol is een jaarlijks terugkerend tiendaags cultureel festival in juni\, dat wordt gehouden op het Nederlandse eiland Terschelling. \nDit festival werd in 1981 opgericht door Joop Mulder\, destijds eigenaar van café De Stoep in Midsland. De naam van het Festival is afgeleid van het woord “overal” in Terschellings. Oerol wordt geprogrammeerd aan het begin van de zomer\, als het eiland volop in het groen staat. Heel Terschelling vormt de locatie voor het Festival\, waarbij intensief wordt opgetrokken met Staatsbosbeheer\, een van de partners. Op Oerol is ruimte voor het experiment en jonge makers\, maar er is ook plek voor gevestigde groepen die die in première gaan op Oerol. Ieder jaar komen bezoekers naar de Nederlandse en internationale theatervoorstellingen\, muziek\, Expedities\, Talks en Pop-up Performance tijdens deze tijdelijke maatschappij op een eiland. DESCRIPTION:Vrijdag de dertiende wordt door veel mensen als een ongeluksdag beschouwd\, wegens de combinatie van vrijdag en dertien. \nEr is een reeks speculatieve verklaringen voor vrijdag de dertiende als ongeluksdag\, maar deze berusten gewoonlijk op interpretatie achteraf: \n\nDe oudste gebeurtenis die in de joods–christelijke traditie naar onheil op vrijdag de dertiende zou verwijzen is de tiende plaag van Egypte.\nHet allereerste Pascha was gepland op een sjabbat\, zaterdag de 14e Nisan. Die sabbat begint echter op vrijdagmiddag 18:00 en omvat in de westerse tijdsopvatting de nacht van vrijdag de 13e. In de joodse tijdsopvatting eindigde de dag echter met de avond\, zodat de vrijdag er niets mee te maken had. Volgens het Bijbelboek Exodus stierven in die nacht alle eerstgeborenen van mens en dier.\nEen andere verklaring is dat vrijdag de dag is waarop Jezus werd gekruisigd. Als die dag dan ook nog samenvalt met het ongeluksgetal 13\, moet deze dag volgens het volksgeloof extra ongeluk veroorzaken.\nDe vrijdagen kunnen ook een kwade naam gekregen hebben omdat de Romeinen op die dag door doodvonnissen voltrokken. Ook in Engeland werd de doodstraf op een vrijdag voltrokken.\nDat ‘dertien’ een negatieve klank had in de christelijke wereld is sinds de zeventiende eeuw mogelijk terug te brengen tot het Laatste Avondmaal van Christus\, waar dertien personen aanzaten. Wat volgde was het verraad door het vertrek van een dertiende persoon (Judas) en daarna de kruisiging van Christus. In het christendom is twaalf sowieso het getal van de perfectie\, denk aan de twaalf stammen van Israël\, de twaalf discipelen en 144.000 uitverkorenen (12×12). DESCRIPTION:Albinism is a rare\, non-contagious\, genetically inherited difference present at birth\, congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair\, feathers\, scales and skin and reddish pink or blue eyes. \nIn almost all types of albinism\, both parents must carry the gene for it to be passed on\, even if they do not have albinism themselves. The condition is found in both sexes regardless of ethnicity and in all countries of the world. Albinism results in a lack of pigmentation (melanin) in the hair\, skin and eyes\, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result\, almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and are prone to developing skin cancer. There is no cure for the absence of melanin that is central to albinism. While numbers vary\, it is estimated that in North America and Europe 1 in every 17\,000 to 20\,000 people have some form of albinism. The condition is much more prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa\, with estimates of 1 in 1\,400 people being affected in Tanzania  and prevalence as high as 1 in 1\,000 reported for select populations in Zimbabwe and for other specific ethnic groups in Southern Africa. \nThe lack of melanin means persons with albinism are highly vulnerable to developing skin cancer. In some countries\, a majority of persons with albinism die from skin cancer between 30 and 40 years of age. Skin cancer is highly preventable when persons with albinism enjoy their right to health. This includes access to regular health checks\, sunscreen\, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing. In a significant number of countries\, these life-saving means are unavailable or inaccessible to them. Consequently\, in the realm of development measures\, persons with albinism have been and are among those “left furthest behind.” Therefore\, they ought to be targeted for human rights interventions in the manner envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals. \nDue to a lack of melanin in the skin and eyes\, persons with albinism often have permanent visual impairment. They also face discrimination due to their skin colour; as such\, they are often subject to multiple and intersecting discrimination on the grounds of both disability and colour. People with albinism face multiple forms of discrimination worldwide. Albinism is still profoundly misunderstood\, socially and medically. The physical appearance of persons with albinism is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition\, which foster their marginalization and social exclusion. This leads to various forms of stigma and discrimination. \nIn some communities\, erroneous beliefs and myths\, heavily influenced by superstition\, put the security and lives of persons with albinism at constant risk. These beliefs and myths are centuries old and are present in cultural attitudes and practices around the world. While it has been reported that persons with albinism globally face discrimination and stigma\, information on cases of physical attacks against persons with albinism is mainly available from countries in Africa. \nPersons with albinism face more severe forms of discrimination and violence in those regions\, where the majority of the general population are relatively dark-skinned. In other words\, a greater degree of contrast in pigmentation often gives rise to a greater degree of discrimination. That appears to be the case in some sub-Saharan African countries where albinism is shrouded in myth and dangerous and erroneous beliefs. The figures on violations against persons with albinism are telling. There have been hundreds of cases of attacks and killings of persons with albinism reported in 28 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in the past decade. The attacks have several root causes including ignorance\, longstanding stigma\, poverty and most abhorrently\, harmful practices emanating from manifestation of beliefs in witchcraft. The alarming reality is that these horrendous practices continue today. \nThe manner in which discrimination faced by persons with albinism manifests itself\, and its severity\, vary from region to region. In the western world\, including North America\, Europe and Australia\, discrimination often consists of name-calling\, persistent teasing and bullying of children with albinism. Het brengt een breed scala aan activiteiten en evenementen samen die de thema’s vrede en rechtvaardigheid belichten in aanloop naar de NAVO-top in Den Haag in juni. Alle Just Peace Festival-activiteiten blijven bereikbaar tijdens de NAVO-top. Je moet wel rekening houden met langere reistijden. Van dinsdag 24 tot en met woensdag 25 juni ontvangt Den Haag de NAVO-top. DESCRIPTION:Een wereldwijde coalitie van al 22 landen over de hele wereld\, bestaande uit duizenden wereldburgers\, grassroots-groepen en NGO’s\, is verontwaardigd over het lijden van het Palestijnse volk\, over de genocide in Gaza en over de voortdurende bezetting van Palestina en wil dat uiten middels een protestmars van 48 kilometer naar de grens van Gaza. \nDeze wereldwijde beweging is ontstaan ​​uit een initiatief van verschillende personen die een mars voor wereldburgers wilden organiseren aan de grens met Rafah\, omdat we de wrede behandeling van Palestijnen in Gaza niet langer kunnen verdragen. De beweging werd gelijktijdig in verschillende landen opgezet – toen de organisatoren elkaar leerden kennen en besloten om hun krachten te bundelen om zich te verenigen. Er zijn twee afzonderlijke wereldwijde marsinitiatieven. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2025 Theme: Progress is clear\, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts! The 2025 World Day will focus on a key milestone: the release of the 2025 global estimates and trends of child labour. This joint report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will offer a comprehensive assessment of global progress toward the elimination of child labour. Although the detailed data are not yet available\, the estimates and trends identified will guide policy debates and calls for renewed commitment and investment. On this World Day\, ILO calls for full ratification of ILO Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age and the implementation of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.  Their effective ratification and implementation remain essential to achieving the goals set by the Durban Call to Action\, which urges us to aim for for strengthened prevention\, protection\, and partnerships to eliminate child labour. DESCRIPTION:Het aantal mensen dat wereldwijd gedwongen op de vlucht is door oorlog\, geweld en vervolging is onhoudbaar hoog\, vooral nu humanitaire financiering opdroogt. \nHet enige lichtpuntje is de toename van het aantal mensen dat terugkeert\, met name naar Syrië\, aldus UNHCR\, de VN-Vluchtelingenorganisatie. Volgens het jaarlijkse Global Trends Report van UNHCR waren er eind april 2025 wereldwijd 122\,1 miljoen mensen gedwongen op de vlucht\, een stijging ten opzichte van 120 miljoen een jaar eerder. Dit betekent een decennium van jaarlijkse stijgingen in het aantal vluchtelingen en anderen die hun huis moesten ontvluchten. DESCRIPTION:Buitenspeeldag is een jaarlijks gehouden dag in Nederland (op de tweede woensdag van juni) en België (op de woensdag na de paasvakantie) met het doel kinderen te stimuleren om buiten te spelen en te sporten in hun eigen buurt. \nDe Nederlandse versie van Buitenspeeldag is de opvolger van de Nationale Straatspeeldag die bedacht is door Stop de Kindermoord en in 1986 voor het eerst werd georganiseerd. Straten werden afgesloten voor verkeer om kinderen veilig buiten te laten spelen\, maar daarnaast werd aandacht gevraagd voor veilige ruimte voor kinderen op straat.
