SUMMARY:#KNMI #CodeGeel voor aanhoudende hitte / #RIVM Hitteplan / #KMI Hittewaarschuwing

SUMMARY:World Youth Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations\, the purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. \nIYD is observed annually on August 12. It is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD\, concerts\, workshops\, cultural events\, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world. The World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth adopted a resolution to proclaim August 12 as International Youth Day at its first session in Lisbon\, Portugal\, from 8 to 12 August 1998. The recommendation was later endorsed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 17\, 1999\, with the adoption of Resolution 54/120. 2025 IYD Theme: “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond“. \nLinks:\nWorld Youth Day

SUMMARY:The Sky at Night – Queen of Pulsars (TV BBC Four)
DESCRIPTION:The Sky at Night is a monthly documentary television programme on astronomy produced by the BBC. \nThe show had the same permanent presenter\, Patrick Moore\, from its first broadcast on 24 April 1957 until 7 January 2013. The latter date was a posthumous broadcast\, which followed Moore’s death on 9 December 2012. This made it the longest-running programme with the same presenter in television history. Many early episodes are missing\, either because the tapes were wiped\, thrown out\, or because the episode was broadcast live and never recorded in the first place. Beginning with the 3 February 2013 edition\, the show was co-presented by Lucie Green and Chris Lintott. Since December 2013 Maggie Aderin-Pocock has been a presenter. The programme’s opening and closing theme music is “At the Castle Gate”\, from the incidental music to Pelléas et Mélisande\, written in 1905 by Jean Sibelius\, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham. \nThis episode:\nDame Jocelyn Bell Burnell is a discoverer and an explorer of the distant cosmos\, and she has walked among the stars. She discovered the first pulsar in 1967 – a discovery so important in our understanding of the universe that it would earn a Nobel Prize. But Jocelyn didn’t receive it. \nAll her life a deep thinker\, a dedicated Quaker and a fierce advocate for equal opportunity in physics\, Jocelyn has carved an astonishing career doing and communicating science\, changing the face of astronomy as a result. \nJocelyn was determined to succeed in an environment not made for her\, and her story resonates with young and old\, student and professor – and anyone who has ever felt like they may not really belong. \nIn this film\, we hear Jocelyn’s story direct from the subject herself and learn how\, from the small town of Lurgan in Northern Ireland\, she rose to worldwide recognition. It is a tale of determination and triumph against the prejudice and misogyny of the time. \nAlongside the history are the enigmas themselves: pulsars. The conditions surrounding these objects make them the most extreme laboratories in the cosmos\, uniting the most complex and cutting-edge physics under one roof. Matter crushed down into its densest form\, encased within extreme magnetic fields – and they are even telling us the secrets of the very make-up of our universe. Some flavours of these objects are so dramatic that just one outburst can briefly outshine an entire galaxy. \nWith Dr Vanessa Graber from Royal Holloway\, University of London\, Maggie delves into the concealed interiors of pulsars and the exotic states of matter that form them. With superfluids of neutrons hosting quantum tornados and searing hundred-million-degree plasma\, pulsars are not the once-predictable characters we thought them. \nChris\, meanwhile\, is at the University of Oxford with Dr Kaustubh Rajwade\, studying the oddballs of the pulsar family and how to decode their messages. As a blast of radiation travels from a pulsar to our detectors\, the history of its journey through the universe is imprinted on the signal. We learn how to use this to see the unseen – the parts of the cosmos that are almost impossible for us to observe – revealing its detailed structure for the first time. \nIn conversation\, Jocelyn joins PhD student Aida Seye to discuss shared passions and challenges in chasing cosmic dreams. Aida is a recipient of the Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund\, instigated by Jocelyn to support PhD students from underrepresented groups. Aida is studying the structure of the Milky Way\, with the aim of bringing us closer to solving the mystery of dark matter. \nLinks:\nThe Sky at Night

SUMMARY:Shutdown of northern Atlantic overturning after 2100 following deep mixing collapse in CMIP6 projections - publication / publicatie

SUMMARY:#zg25 #Zomergasten : 10-08-2025 (TV NPO 2 / NPO Start)

SUMMARY:Meteorenzwerm η-Eridaniden in augustus 2025
\nLinks:\nMeteorenzwerm η-Eridaniden in augustus 2025

‘America’s idea of winning is to create a God. That God will live in San Francisco. And the God works for America\,’ vertelt de Chinese econoom Andy Xie in Tegenlicht-aflevering Wanneer barst de AI-bubbel? \nLinks:\nTegenlicht

SUMMARY:Dodentocht Bornem 2025
\nLinks:\nDodentocht

SUMMARY:Meteorenzwerm δ-Aquariden noord
\nLinks:\nMeteorenzwerm δ-Aquariden noord

SUMMARY:#DontForgetGaza Sit-ins op elk centraal station in Nederland

SUMMARY:Sit-in van Rijksambtenaren in Den Haag
– petitie \n24-uurs wake Buitenlandse Zaken (TV webcast live) \nTweede Kamer NL Commissiedebat : Situatie in Gaza

SUMMARY:DEF CON 33
DESCRIPTION:DEF CON (also written as DEFCON\, Defcon\, or DC) is a hacker convention held annually in Las Vegas\, Nevada. \nThe first DEF CON took place in June 1993 and today many attendees at DEF CON include computer security professionals\, journalists\, lawyers\, federal government employees\, security researchers\, students\, and hackers with a general interest in software\, computer architecture\, hardware modification\, conference badges\, and anything else that can be “hacked”. The event consists of several tracks of speakers about computer and hacking-related subjects\, as well as cyber-security challenges and competitions (known as hacking wargames). Contests held during the event are extremely varied and can range from creating the longest Wi-Fi connection to finding the most effective way to cool a beer in the Nevada heat. Other contests\, past and present\, include lockpicking\, robotics-related contests\, art\, slogan\, coffee wars\, scavenger hunt\, and Capture the Flag. Capture the Flag (CTF) is perhaps the best known of these contests and is a hacking competition where teams of hackers attempt to attack and defend computers and networks using software and network structures. CTF has been emulated at other hacking conferences as well as in academic and military contexts (as red team exercises). Federal law enforcement agents from the FBI\, DoD\, United States Postal Inspection Service\, DHS (via CISA) and other agencies regularly attend DEF CON. Some have considered DEF CON to be the “world’s largest” hacker conference given its attendee size and the number of other conferences modeling themselves after it. \nLinks:\nDEF CON 33

SUMMARY:Digital Sovereignty Index 2025: How countries compare in digital independence - publication
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Sovereignty Index shows how countries compare in digital independence. \nAround the world\, discussions about digital sovereignty are intensifying. Governments\, institutions\, companies and civil society are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of controlling their own digital infrastructure. From concerns about data protection and vendor lock-in to questions of political autonomy\, the topic has moved from niche circles to mainstream policy debates. \nLinks:\nDigital Sovereignty Index: How countries compare in digital independence \nAgenda – Streven naar Digitale Autonomie in Amsterdam / Amsterdam zet eerste stap naar digitale onafhankelijkheid – publicatie

SUMMARY:Chikungunya virus in China - publication
DESCRIPTION:An outbreak of a rare mosquito-borne virus in Southern China has prompted drastic containment strategies and sparked fears of another pandemic. \nVerspreiding chikungunya over de wereld – (c) WHO(externe link) 2022\, geraadpleegd op 18 februari 2025\nA significant outbreak of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is currently ongoing in Guangdong province\, China\, with over 8\,000 confirmed cases reported in the weeks before August 7\, 2025. This represents the largest documented outbreak of CHIKV in China and has prompted aggressive containment measures\, including quarantines\, drone-based fogging and legal enforcement of mosquito control efforts. CHIKV is a mosquito-borne virus that usually causes acute\, self-limiting illness but can also lead to prolonged joint pain and\, in some cases\, severe complications in the eyes and brain. \nLinks:\nChikungunya virus in China \nChikungunya Virus Cases Swell in China — Here’s What to Know About the Mosquito-Borne Disease \nChikungunya – RIVM
