DESCRIPTION:Charles Robert Darwin (*Shrewsbury (Shropshire)\, 12 februari 1809 – +Downe (Kent)\, 19 april 1882) was een Engelse autodidact op het gebied van natuurlijke historie\, biologie en geologie. \nDarwin ontleent zijn roem aan zijn theorie dat evolutie van soorten wordt gedreven door natuurlijke selectie. Het bestaan van evolutie werd omstreeks 1850 al door een groot deel van de wetenschappelijke gemeenschap geaccepteerd. De acceptatie van natuurlijke selectie als aandrijvend mechanisme liet langer op zich wachten\, maar is tegenwoordig onomstreden. Darwin werd gelovig opgevoed en opgeleid volgens de filosofie van de toen in Engeland gangbare natuurlijke theologie\, die religie en wetenschap wilde verenigen. Dankzij de waarnemingen en ontdekkingen die hij in de loop van zijn leven deed ging hij echter steeds meer twijfelen zowel aan deze gangbare ideeën over soortvorming als aan zijn persoonlijke geloof. Tijdens een onderzoeksreis met het schip de Beagle (1831-1836) bezocht Darwin Zuid-Amerika\, Australië\, het zuiden van Afrika en diverse eilandengroepen in de Grote en Indische Oceaan. \nOp al deze plekken bestudeerde hij de plaatselijke dieren\, planten\, fossielen en geologie. Een groot deel van zijn verdere leven was gewijd aan het onderzoeken en classificeren van de op zijn reis verzamelde voorwerpen en het was dankzij dit onderzoek dat hij op zijn theorie over het ontstaan van soorten kwam. Darwins werk betekende een paradigmaverschuiving en een wetenschappelijke revolutie\, die een grote invloed had op maatschappij\, filosofie en religie. De acceptatie van de evolutie van soorten had als gevolg dat de mens als een diersoort\, een onderdeel van de natuur\, in plaats van als een boven de natuur staande levensvorm moest worden beschouwd. Aan het gebouw van het vliegveld hebben de actievoerders een spandoek gehangen met de tekst: ‘Zet een streep door Lelystad Airport.’ De actie volgt op het voornemen van de coalitie om de luchthaven te openen voor burgerluchtvaart. Zij zullen niet rusten tot dit vliegveld definitief van de baan is. Ze hebben eten\, drinken en slaapzakken meegenomen\, we blijven hier tot het kabinet zegt: we zetten een streep door de vakantievluchten. De natuur\, het klimaat en ook heel veel mensen in de wijde omtrek krijgen hier last van en zitten helemaal niet te wachten op dit vliegveld. Zeker voor D66 is het regelrecht kiezersbedrog: het niet openen van Lelystad Airport stond letterlijk in het verkiezingsprogramma. We eisen dat het nieuwe kabinet dit besluit terugdraait en definitief een streep door Lelystad Airport zet. Het lijkt een no-brainer om geen nieuw vliegveld te openen. Maar er gebeurt wel meer niet wat mij erg logisch lijkt (bijvoorbeeld rijke vervuilers belasten). Dus we moeten ons samen weer uitspreken tegen Lelystad Airport. Spreek je via de petitie ‘Zet een streep door Lelystad Airport‘ ook uit tegen een nieuw vliegveld. \nNa 36 uur is vrijdag 13 februari 2026 de actie op Lelystad Airport beëindigd. De activisten hielden anderhalve dag stand in het hoofdgebouw om een glasheldere boodschap af te geven aan de nieuwe coalitie: zet een definitieve streep door de opening van dit vliegveld. It will be followed by a leaders-only discussion.\nLeaders are expected to discuss how the EU should position itself in a world of increased – and not always fair – economic competition and trade imbalance\, as well as how best to respond to economic coercion and reduce economic dependencies\, notably in areas like critical raw materials and technology. Europe must both accelerate its ambitious trade agenda and defend its companies from unfair competition through focused protection in strategic sectors. Rules that allow for European preference in some strategic areas\, and a systematic approach to economic de-risking\, will have to be part of this equation. \nThe EU’s internal strategy: Enrico Letta will take part in the second working session of the meeting. He will present his views on how to better leverage the single market in a fast-changing world. The session will be followed by a leaders-only discussion. Leaders will focus on identifying the main EU priorities to complete the single market\, as well as how to provide EU businesses with a more favourable regulatory environment and how to respond to economic coercion and unfair competition. The EU needs to do more to effectively reduce national barriers\, and to make the regulatory framework at all levels more conducive to investment\, innovation and company growth. Creating a new ’28th regime’ to help companies scale up and accelerating the work on a savings and investment union will also be crucial in this regard. DESCRIPTION:Vrijdag de dertiende wordt door veel mensen als een ongeluksdag beschouwd\, wegens de combinatie van vrijdag en dertien. \nEr is een reeks speculatieve verklaringen voor vrijdag de dertiende als ongeluksdag\, maar deze berusten gewoonlijk op interpretatie achteraf: \n\nDe oudste gebeurtenis die in de joods–christelijke traditie naar onheil op vrijdag de dertiende zou verwijzen is de tiende plaag van Egypte.\nHet allereerste Pascha was gepland op een sjabbat\, zaterdag de 14e Nisan. Die sabbat begint echter op vrijdagmiddag 18:00 en omvat in de westerse tijdsopvatting de nacht van vrijdag de 13e. In de joodse tijdsopvatting eindigde de dag echter met de avond\, zodat de vrijdag er niets mee te maken had. Volgens het Bijbelboek Exodus stierven in die nacht alle eerstgeborenen van mens en dier.\nEen andere verklaring is dat vrijdag de dag is waarop Jezus werd gekruisigd. Als die dag dan ook nog samenvalt met het ongeluksgetal 13\, moet deze dag volgens het volksgeloof extra ongeluk veroorzaken.\nDe vrijdagen kunnen ook een kwade naam gekregen hebben omdat de Romeinen op die dag door doodvonnissen voltrokken. Ook in Engeland werd de doodstraf op een vrijdag voltrokken.\nDat ‘dertien’ een negatieve klank had in de christelijke wereld is sinds de zeventiende eeuw mogelijk terug te brengen tot het Laatste Avondmaal van Christus\, waar dertien personen aanzaten. Wat volgde was het verraad door het vertrek van een dertiende persoon (Judas) en daarna de kruisiging van Christus. In het christendom is twaalf sowieso het getal van de perfectie\, denk aan de twaalf stammen van Israël\, de twaalf discipelen en 144.000 uitverkorenen (12×12). DESCRIPTION:World Radio Day is an observance day held annually on 13 February to celebrate radio as a medium. It was proclaimed on 3 November 2011 by UNESCO’s 36th General Conference after originally being proposed by the Kingdom of Spain. \nFollowing a request from the Spanish Radio Academy on 20 September 2010\, Spain proposed that the UNESCO Executive Board include an agenda item on the proclamation of a World Radio Day. UNESCO’s Executive Board approved the agenda item in its provisional agenda for the proclamation of a “World Radio Day” on 29 September 2011. UNESCO carried out a wide consultation in 2011 with diverse stakeholders\, such as broadcasting associations\, UN agencies\, funds and programmes\, relevant NGOs\, foundations and bilateral development agencies\, as well as UNESCO Permanent Delegations and National Commissions for UNESCO. Among the answers\, 91% were in favour of the project\, including official support from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)\, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)\, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)\, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU)\, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)\, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB)\, the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA)\, the Organización de Telecomunicaciones Ibeoramericanas (OTI)\, BBC\, URTI\, Vatican Radio\, etc. The results of this consultation are available in UNESCO’s document 187 EX/13. The Board recommended to the UNESCO 36th session of the General Conference that it proclaim a World Radio Day at its 36th session\, and that this day be celebrated by UNESCO on 13 February\, the anniversary of the day that the United Nations established the United Nations Radio in 1946. \nIt also invited all United Nations Member States\, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations\, professional associations and broadcasting unions\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and individuals\, to duly celebrate World Radio Day\, in the way that each considers most adequate. The board further requested that UNESCO’s Director-General bring the resolution to the attention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations\, so that World Radio Day could be endorsed by the General Assembly and celebrated by the whole system. The matter was subsequently treated by UNESCO’s General Conference\, which adopted resolution contained in the file 36 C/63. World Radio Day was thus unanimously proclaimed by all Member States of UNESCO in November 2011. In December 2012\, The General Assembly of the UN endorsed the proclamation of World Radio Day\, thereby becoming a day to be celebrated by all UN agencies\, funds and programmes and their partners. File A/RES/67/124. Various radio industry bodies around the world are supporting the initiative by encouraging stations in developed countries to assist those in the developing world. At UNESCO\, the consultation\, proclamation and celebrations were handled by Mirta Lourenco\, Chief of the Sector for Media Development. \nOn World Radio Day 2026\, UNESCO gives radio stations the resources to build confidence in how Artifical Intelligence (AI) is used\, all while preserving the warmth and reliability that audiences cherish. Today AI opens a new chapter: not just for innovation but for deepening their bond with listeners. DESCRIPTION:Despite substantial public health efforts\, reducing adolescents’ sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption remains challenging\, while much is known about determinants\, the underlying motivations for sustained popularity remain unclear. \nThe study ‘Sugar-sweetened beverages: consumption\, purchasing behaviour\, and opinions about policy measures in a nationally representative panel of Dutch secondary school adolescents‘ aims to gain insights into the prevalence of perceptions and contextual influences surrounding SSB purchase and consumption in a representative sample of Dutch adolescents; and to investigate adolescents’ opinions on presumed effects of policies to reduce SSB consumption. A cross-sectional\, nationally representative survey in June 2021 among 839 Dutch students aged 12–16 was conducted\, using an online questionnaire to assess dietary behaviours\, including weekly consumption of SSBs (glasses/week). The results showed that over two-thirds of adolescents (72.6%) agreed that ‘Drinking soft drinks is normal.’ Across all adolescents\, average consumption was 9.5 glasses per week; over half (51.7%) were defined as high consumers (≥ 7 glasses/week). Adolescents with constant home availability of SSBs had 14 times higher odds of being high consumers (95% CI 12.32–14.48)\, a significant association; they also tended to purchase SSBs more frequently and spent significantly more money on them\, compared to those without home availability. Nearly half (49.7%) agreed that price increases would reduce their consumption. Overall\, the study confirms that SSBs are widely consumed by adolescents and perceived as a normal\, everyday choice. This normalization is reinforced by their availability and low cost. Fiscal measures and targeted interventions in settings such as supermarkets hold promise for reducing SSB consumption. DESCRIPTION:Code Geel : van het zuidwesten uit gladheid door sneeuw. \n \nNederland:\nZondag 15 februari 2026 vanaf halverwege de middag bereikt een zone met sneeuw het zuidwesten\, om zich in de loop van de middag en avond over de rest van Nederland uit te breiden. Op veel plaatsen ontstaat een sneeuwdek waardoor er gladheid kan ontstaan. Hierdoor kan met name het verkeer hinder ondervinden. In de loop van de nacht naar maandag gaat de gladheid in het zuidwesten en zuiden geleidelijk verdwijnen. In het noordoosten kan de gladheid door sneeuw nog tot halverwege maandagochtend aanhouden. Op veel plaatsen kan zich een sneeuwdek vormen van 3-5 cm\, plaatselijk 5-8 cm. In de loop van de avond en nacht naar maandag wordt het van het zuidwesten uit droog of gaat de neerslag over in regen/natte sneeuw. Bovendien loopt de temperatuur op en dooit de sneeuw langzaam weg. \n \nBelgië:\nZondagnamiddag 15 februari 2026 bereikt sneeuw of smeltende sneeuw het westen van België en de neerslag trekt verder over het hele land tijdens de avond en het eerste deel van de nacht. Er kan tijdelijk enkele cm sneeuw blijven liggen met gladde wegen toe gevolg.
