DESCRIPTION:Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is a United Nations-sanctioned designated awareness day observed annually on 29 September with the goal to raise awareness of the importance of food loss and waste\, this day is co-convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)\, whereas\, the day’s events are jointly led by these two organizations. \nThe main aim of the day is to raise awareness to the importance of food loss and waste related problems and their possible solutions at all levels\, and also to promote global efforts and collective action towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3\, which targets to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030\, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains. It has been calculated that an average of 74 kg of food per person is wasted each year worldwide. According to some estimates\, 1.4 billion hectares of agricultural land are used annually to produce food that will eventually be discarded; 14% of produced food (worth approximately 400 billion dollars) is lost between harvest and sale\, while 17% of global agrifood production is wasted. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443). De tv editie wordt uitgezonden via NPO 2 op zondag\, vaak rond een thema. \nWaar vroeger de Zuiderzeekust te vinden was liggen nu de Veluwerandmeren; vier meren waar het\, tussen de pleziervaart door\, wemelt van de vogels. Ondanks de ingrijpende verandering van zoute zee naar zoete meren\, floreert de natuur. Varend en snorkelend in de regen nemen we een kijkje in het heldere water. Kleurrijke krooneenden snoepen van de kranswieren. In het riet klinkt een grote karekiet\, die na een dramatische afname langzaam opkrabbelt. DESCRIPTION:Tegenlicht is een informatief televisieprogramma van de VPRO via het internet\, door de VPRO wordt het programma bestempeld als documentaire op het vlak van politiek\, economie\, sociologie en wetenschap en het programma stelt zich ten doel inzicht in de werking van de samenleving te verschaffen. \nWaarom groeiende ongelijkheid jongeren berooft van hun toekomst volgens ex-bankier Gary Stevenson. Het gaat fantastisch met de Nederlandse economie. Althans\, zo luidden de berichten na Prinsjesdag\, de dag waarop de overheidsbegroting wordt gepresenteerd en de stand van de economie wordt besproken. Het doorsnee huishouden kende vorig jaar de grootste koopkrachtstijging in 20 jaar\, zo bleek uit cijfers van het Centraal Planbureau. Ook op Europees niveau valt goed nieuws te melden. De middenklasse werd de afgelopen 15 jaar rijker\, deels door stijgende huizenprijzen. En ook in het Westen als geheel gaat het lekker\, als je de aandelenmarkten mag geloven. Die bevinden zich op of nabij recordniveaus. Tot zover de cijfers. Hoe gaat het echt? Gangbare economische cijfers en theorieën zijn immers berucht om hun blinde vlekken. Volgens de Londense ex-bankier en wiskunde-genie Gary Stevenson zitten we middenin een grote economische crisis. Maar niet eentje die gepaard gaat met een plotselinge schok zoals een beurscrash. ‘Ik denk dat een economische crisis eruit kan zien als huizenprijzen die maar blijven stijgen\,’ aldus Stevenson. Wat de oud-valutahandelaar interessant maakt\, is zijn achtergrond: Stevenson komt als een van de weinigen in de Londense financiële wereld uit een arbeidersgezin en ziet dingen die de upperclass jongens maar moeilijk zien. Gewone jonge mensen bijvoorbeeld\, vrienden en familie van Stevenson\, die helemaal niet zoveel koopkracht blijken te hebben. Of steeds langere wachtlijsten in de publieke gezondheidszorg. Stijgende voedsel- en energieprijzen. Stijgende kosten voor de kinderopvang. Minder toegang tot stabiel werk. Onbetaalbare huizen voor een jongere generatie. Enzovoorts. \nTerwijl de allerrijksten steeds meer vermogen vergaren (op de beurs en via vastgoed)\, stijgt het gewone levensonderhoud voor de armste 60 procent van de samenleving. Op den duur de armste 90 procent\, bijna iedereen dus. Dat de middenklasse dat momenteel niet per se ervaart\, komt omdat de welvaartsval ook tussen generaties kan zitten. Of omdat de kosten voor levensonderhoud\, zoals de huizenprijzen\, simpelweg te langzaam stijgen om te voelen als een echte economische schok. Maar maak je geen illusies\, zegt Stevenson. Ook de middenklasse – zelfs in het welvarende Nederland – is op den duur aan de beurt. Hoe dat voelt? Vraag het aan de schoonmakers die  worden uitgeknepen of in de parkeergarage slapen van het gebouw waar ze schoonmaken. Vraag het aan de groeiende groep mensen die werken maar toch dakloos zijn en in auto’s of vakantieparken slapen. En die koopkrachtcijfers dan? Wie ze uitsplitst naar leeftijd\, ziet dat jongeren onder de 25 er op achterblijven vergeleken met oudere generaties. De welvaartsgroei van de rijkeren kan veel vertekenen. De crisis is volgens Stevenson er dan ook niet een van krimp\, maar van groeiende ongelijkheid. Waar academicus Thomas Piketty – die andere ongelijkheidswaarschuwer – de wereld verlichtte met ‘r > g’ (een door Piketty gebruikte formule die aangeeft dat het rendement op vermogen al geruime tijd hoger is dan de economische groei)\, is de rauwe Stevenson duidelijker. ‘Kies maar: of veel hogere belastingen voor de allerrijksten\, of je kleinkinderen zullen extreem arm zijn. Ook nu\, in de aanloop naar de verkiezingen heeft Nederland eerlijk nieuws nodig. \nNOS stelt zich tot doel ‘de Nederlandse burger zo goed mogelijk te informeren over nieuws\, sport en gebeurtenissen van nationaal en internationaal belang’. Helaas is dat niet wat NOS doet. Misleidende frames\, nepneutraliteit en valse balans geven burgers een onjuist beeld van de werkelijkheid. Uit onderzoek van Ground News blijkt dat NOS-nieuws een hang naar rechts vertoont. Om op te treden tegen onrecht hebben we kloppende kennis nodig. Alleen als ze op de hoogte zijn van wat er in de wereld gebeurt weten ze waar actie nodig is. Eerlijk nieuws is dus noodzakelijk voor het streven naar een rechtvaardige wereld. Of het nu gaat om de klimaat- en ecologische crisis\, ongedocumenteerde mensen\, of de genocide die Israël op de Palestijnen pleegt: NOS geeft vaak geen eerlijk beeld. September 27 was chosen as on that day in 1970\, the Statutes of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) were adopted. \nTourism is one of the world’s most important economic sectors. It employs one in every ten people on Earth and provides livelihoods to hundreds of millions more. For some countries\, it can represent over 20 percent of their GDP. It allows people to experience some of the world’s cultural and natural riches and brings people closer to each other\, highlighting our common humanity. Tourism is an essential pillar of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals\, especially goals 8\, 12\, and 14. It serves as a first entry point to the world of work\, especially for women\, youth\, migrant workers\, and rural populations in developing and least developed countries (LDCs). Women represent a majority of the tourism sector workforce\, while half of that workforce is under 25 years of age. Moreover\, in many parts of the world\, the protection of biodiversity and conservation rely heavily on the tourism sector and the revenue it generates. \nThe constant growth of the tourism sector during the last six decades reflects more progressive access to tourism thanks to the decline in the cost of transport and the world-wide growth of the middle classes. The recognition of the right to holidays in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights\, and the improved adoption of labor rights in many countries have also supported its development. These factors also serve as a backdrop for the resilience shown by tourism in recent years. The sector has experienced almost uninterrupted growth despite challenges such as the global economic crisis and natural disasters. \nThe many important contributions of tourism encouraged the UNWTO to institute World Tourism Day in a meeting that took place in Spain\, commencing the first celebration of the observance in the year 1980. This date was chosen to coincide with an important milestone in world tourism: the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on 27 September 1970. DESCRIPTION:The General Assembly commemorates 26 September as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons\, this Day provides an occasion for the world community to reaffirm its commitment to global nuclear disarmament as a priority. \nIt provides an opportunity to educate the public – and their leaders – about the real benefits of eliminating such weapons\, and the social and economic costs of perpetuating them. Achieving global nuclear disarmament is one of the oldest goals of the United Nations. It was the subject of the General Assembly’s first resolution in 1946\, which established the Atomic Energy Commission\, which was dissolved in 1952\, with a mandate to make specific proposals for the control of nuclear energy and the elimination of atomic weapons and all other major weapons adaptable to mass destruction. The United Nations has been at the forefront of many major diplomatic efforts to advance nuclear disarmament since. In 1959\, the General Assembly endorsed the objective of general and complete disarmament. In 1978\, the first Special Session of the General Assembly Devoted to Disarmament further recognized that nuclear disarmament should be the priority objective in the field of disarmament. Every United Nations Secretary-General has actively promoted this goal. \nThe General Assembly declared the International Day in December 2013\, in its resolution 68/32 as a follow-up to the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on nuclear disarmament held on 26 September 2013\, in New York. This was the latest in a series of efforts by the General Assembly to raise public awareness and to seek deeper engagement on nuclear disarmament matters. In 2009\, the General Assembly had declared 29 August as the International Day against Nuclear Tests (resolution 64/35). In resolution 68/32\, the General Assembly called for the “urgent commencement of negotiations in the Conference on Disarmament of a comprehensive convention on nuclear weapons to prohibit their possession\, development\, production\, acquisition\, testing\, stockpiling\, transfer and use or threat of use\, and to provide for their destruction.” \nIn 2014\, in its resolution 69/58\, the General Assembly further expressed its desire to commemorate the Day\, and requested the Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly to make all arrangements necessary to commemorate the International Day and promote it\, including by convening an annual meeting of the Assembly to provide a platform for the promotion of these activities. The General Assembly repeated these requests and call in subsequent years in resolutions  70/34\, 71/71\, 72/251\, 73/40\, 74/54\, 75/45\, 76/36\, 77/47 and 78/27. The International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons has been observed annually since 2014. Pursuant to the resolutions of the General Assembly\, Member States\, the United Nations system and civil society\, including non-governmental organizations\, academia\, parliamentarians\, the mass media and individuals are encouraged to commemorate and promote the International Day through enhancing public awareness and education about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination. To observe the International Day\, the United Nations is supporting events both in New York and Geneva. United Nations Information Centres around the world are encouraged to raise awareness to the observance of International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. \nYet\, today nearly around 12\,100 nuclear weapons remain. Countries possessing such weapons have well-funded\, long-term plans to modernize their nuclear arsenals. More than half of the world’s population still lives in countries that either have such weapons or are members of nuclear alliances. While the number of deployed nuclear weapons has appreciably declined since the height of the Cold War\, not one nuclear weapon has been physically destroyed pursuant to a treaty. In addition\, no nuclear disarmament negotiations are currently underway. Meanwhile\, the doctrine of nuclear deterrence persists as an element in the security policies of all possessor states and many of their allies. The international arms-control framework that contributed to international security since the Cold War\, acted as a brake on the use of nuclear weapons and advanced nuclear disarmament\, has come under increasing strain. Most recently\, on 2 August 2019\, the United States’ withdrawal spelled the end of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty\, through with the United States and the Russian Federation had previously committed to eliminating an entire class of nuclear missiles. \nFrustration has been growing amongst Member States regarding what is perceived as the slow pace of nuclear disarmament. This frustration has been put into sharper focus with growing concerns about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of the use of even a single nuclear weapon\, let alone a regional or global nuclear war. Commemorating this Day at the United Nations is especially important\, given its universal membership and its long experience in grappling with nuclear disarmament issues. Hoe ga je verder met je dagelijks leven\, als je weet dat elders op de wereld verschrikkelijke bosbranden gaande zijn? Bosbranden gaande zijn? Kan dat eigenlijk? Niet wegkijken van al die gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis en toch iets van levensgeluk vasthouden? Het leven ondanks alles blijven vieren? Velen van ons hebben besloten om zich in te zetten om de klimaatcrisis aan te pakken. Dat kan zijn door plantaardig te eten\, of minder plastic te gebruiken. Anderen gaan het gesprek aan in hun omgeving om bewustwording te vergroten. Of gaan over tot actie\, samen met één van de milieu-organisaties als Milieudefensie\, Greenpeace of Extinction Rebellion. \nVoor zoveel mogelijk mensen die boos\, bezorgd of verdrietig zijn over het klimaat en geïnspireerd zijn om iets te veranderen aan de toestand van het klimaat. Activisten\, bezorgde mensen\, religieus en niet-religieus\, jongeren en volwassenen. Bezoekers van de Klimaatwakes zoeken inspiratie om zich actief in te zetten. Samen delen waar je bang voor bent\, omdat je niet wilt wegkijken\, maar klimaat-rampen onder ogen zien\, geeft troost. Soms merk je dat je inzet tegen de klimaatcrisis je kan vervreemden of isoleren van je vrienden of familie. Of je kan je verdrietig en gefrustreerd voelen dat er zo slecht geluisterd wordt door overheid en bedrijven. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van recente uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. Dit gebeurt door eenzaamheid te agenderen\, bespreekbaar te maken en mensen meer bewust te maken van het thema. Zodat meer mensen in actie komen om eenzaamheid te voorkomen en verminderen\, voor zichzelf of een ander. Verbinding staat centraal. Iedereen kan deelnemen aan de Week tegen Eenzaamheid door het organiseren of bezoeken van een activiteit. Of door gewoon iets met iemand in je omgeving te doen. Eenzaamheid is het gevoel alleen te zijn\, van geïsoleerd te zijn van ‘de anderen’. Onderzoekers omschrijven eenzaamheid als het ervaren verschil tussen gewenste en aanwezige contacten. Op deze definitie van socioloog Jenny de Jong Gierveld is veel onderzoek naar het vóórkomen van eenzaamheid gebaseerd. In Nederland wordt deze definitie al jarenlang als grondslag gebruikt voor het meten van de mate van eenzaamheid in de bevolking\, de zg. prevalentie. Er zijn veel verschillende definities van eenzaamheid in omloop. DESCRIPTION:De gemeente Amsterdam gaat de organisatie de komende jaren veranderen\, dat is nodig om beter aan te sluiten bij de uitdagingen van de stad en de behoeften van Amsterdammers. \nHet college van burgemeester en wethouders (B&W) schrijft dit in een brief aan de gemeenteraad. De kern van de brief van het college: er gaat eenvoudiger gewerkt worden\, met meer ruimte voor de uitvoering\, duidelijke prioriteiten\, haalbare doelen en een veilige werkplek. Amsterdam groeit en staat voor grote opgaven\, zoals: \n\nhet tegengaan van armoede\nhet aanpakken van woningnood\nhet verbeteren van de openbare ruimte\n\nTegelijk krijgt de gemeente meer taken van het Rijk\, vaak zonder extra middelen. Dat zet de uitvoering onder druk. Haar medewerkers zetten zich elke dag in voor de stad. Toch voelen veel Amsterdammers zich te weinig geholpen\, gezien of gehoord. Ook ziet B&W dat de organisatie te ingewikkeld is geworden\, het ziekteverzuim te hoog en te veel medewerkers ervaren onveiligheid en discriminatie. Daarom is een fundamentele verandering nodig. De komende maanden nemen we onder andere meer maatregelen om het ziekteverzuim terug te dringen en leiderschap te versterken. Tegelijk wordt gewerkt aan plannen voor de veranderingen en worden voorstellen voorbereid waar de nieuwe gemeenteraad en het nieuwe college van B&W na de verkiezingen in maart besluiten over kunnen nemen. Dit proces wordt begeleid door Tijs van Lieshout\, commandant van de brandweer en directeur van de Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland. Hij kent de gemeente goed\, maar is ook voldoende onafhankelijk om moeilijke maatregelen voor te stellen. Ataxia\, is a progressive\, degenerative\, genetic disease with multiple types\, each of which could be considered a neurological condition in its own right. SCA is hereditary\, progressive\, degenerative\, and often fatal. There is no known effective treatment or cure. SCA can affect anyone of any age. The disease is caused by either a recessive or dominant gene. The world relies on a safe\, secure and efficient international shipping industry\, which is an essential component of any programme for future sustainable green economic growth in a sustainable manner. The promotion of sustainable shipping and sustainable maritime development is one of the major priorities of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in the coming years. Therefore\, energy efficiency\, new technology and innovation\, maritime education and training\, maritime security\, maritime traffic management and the development of the maritime infrastructure: the development and implementation of global standards covering these and other issues will underpin IMO’s commitment to provide the institutional framework necessary for a green and sustainable global maritime transportation system. \nWorld Maritime Day theme 2025 — “Our Ocean\, Our Obligation\, Our Opportunity” — shines a spotlight on the essential role the ocean plays in sustaining life\, livelihoods\, and the global economy. It provides half of the oxygen we breathe\, feeds billions of people\, regulates the climate\, and enables more than 80% of global trade through maritime transport. The ocean is also home to countless marine species and a vital source of jobs\, food\, and economic opportunity for millions. But the ocean faces mounting pressure—from pollution and overuse to the accelerating effects of climate change. Protecting it is not just about saving nature—it is a global responsibility that touches every aspect of human life. As the largest sector operating in ocean space\, the shipping industry plays a crucial role in both facilitating global commerce and advancing ocean protection.
