DESCRIPTION:Barbershop Music Appreciation Day takes place on July 13 every year. \nThe best way to join in Barbershop Music Appreciation Day is to go straight into a barbershop and enjoy the music that you can hear inside. In 2005\, “The Sweet Adelines International” have founded this cheery holiday on their 60th anniversary. Barbershop music is a style of a cappella close harmony and vocal harmony\, or unaccompanied vocal music\, characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a primarily homorhythmic texture. Each of the four parts has its own role: generally\, the lead sings the melody\, the tenor harmonizes above the melody\, the bass sings the lowest harmonizing notes\, and the baritone completes the chord\, usually below the lead. The melody is not usually sung by the tenor or baritone\, except for an infrequent note or two to avoid awkward voice leading\, in tags or codas\, or when some appropriate embellishment can be created. One characteristic feature of barbershop harmony is the use of what is known as “snakes” and “swipes”. This is when a chord is altered by a change in one or more non-melodic voices. Occasional passages may be sung by fewer than four voice parts. Barbershop music is generally performed by either a barbershop quartet\, a group of four singers which sings four-part harmony\, or a barbershop chorus\, which closely resembles a choir with the notable exception of the genre of music. \nAccording to the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS)\, “Barbershop music features songs with understandable lyrics and easily singable melodies\, whose tones clearly define a tonal center and imply major and minor chords and barbershop (dominant and secondary dominant) seventh chords that resolve primarily around the circle of fifths\, while making frequent use of other resolutions.” Slower barbershop songs\, especially ballads\, often eschew a continuous beat\, and notes are often held (or sped up) ad libitum. Aside from the bass\, the voice parts in barbershop singing do not correspond closely to their classical music counterparts; the tenor range and tessitura are similar to those of the classical countertenor (including the fact that they sing their highest notes primarily in falsetto\, as a countertenor would)\, the baritone resembles a high lyric baritone in range and a tenor in tessitura\, and the lead generally corresponds to the tenor of classical repertoire\, with some singers possessing a tessitura more similar to that of a high baritone. DESCRIPTION:Het Kwaku Summer Festival (voorheen het Kwakoe Zomerfestival) wordt sinds 1975 bijna elk jaar tijdens een aantal weekeinden in de zomer gehouden in het Nelson Mandelapark in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. \nHet is van origine een Surinaams festival\, maar het heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een multicultureel festival. Het festival is ontstaan in 1975 als voetbaltoernooi\, georganiseerd door Stichting Jongeren Centrum Kwakoe tijdens het 700-jarig bestaan van Amsterdam. Het speelde zich aanvankelijk af op de sportvelden van SV Bijlmer\, op de locatie van het huidige Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In 1983 verhuisde het festival naar de huidige locatie in het Nelson Mandelapark dat in die tijd Bijlmerpark heette. Eind jaren negentig dienden zowel het jongerencentrum Kwakoe als de organisatie van het festival een vergunningaanvraag in. De festivalorganisatie Stichting Kwakoe Events onder leiding van Winston Kout kreeg de vergunning toegewezen en heeft het festival sindsdien georganiseerd. Van een louter Surinaams feest\, voor arme Surinamers uit de Bijlmerhoogbouw die geen geld hebben om op vakantie te gaan\, ontwikkelde het festival zich sindsdien tot een multicultureel festival dat zich ook op Antillianen en Afrikanen richt. DESCRIPTION:World Population Day is an annual event\, observed on July 11 every year\, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. \nThe event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11\, 1987\, the approximate date on which the world’s population reached five billion people. World Population Day aims to increase people’s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning\, gender equality\, poverty\, maternal health and human rights. The day was suggested by Dr. K.C.Zachariah in which population reached five billion when he worked as Sr Demographer at World Bank. While press interest and general awareness in the global population surges at the increments of whole billions of people\, the world population increases by 100 million approximately every 14 months. The world population was estimated at 7\,400\,000\,000 on February 6\, 2016 and reached 7\,500\,000\,000 on April 24\, 2017. The world population hit 7\,700\,000\,000 in 2019. In November 2020\, UNFPA\, together with the governments of Kenya and Denmark\, convened a high-level conference in Nairobi to accelerate efforts to achieve these unmet goals. Geef van elke vlindersoort het hoogste aantal door in het telformulier dat je tegelijk hebt gezien. Voorbeeld: je ziet eerst 3 dagpauwogen tegelijk. Tien minuten later zijn er weer 2 dagpauwogen. Dan geef je door: 3 dagpauwogen. Zie je later op de dag of één van de andere teldagen weer vlinders? Dan kun je die doorgeven via een nieuwe telling. Heb je een vlinder gezien die niet in de tellijst staat? Dat kan; we tellen alleen de meest voorkomende soorten tuinvlinders. Je hoeft deze waarneming dan niet in te vullen. Belangrijk: als je geen vlinders ziet is het ook belangrijk om dit door te geven. DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. DESCRIPTION:De Pride Amsterdam is een meerdaags evenement met een homocultureel karakter en wordt sinds 1996 jaarlijks rondom het eerste weekend van augustus gehouden in de binnenstad van Amsterdam. \nLhbtiq+-organisaties in de stad organiseren een maand lang allerlei activiteiten. In 2026 is de Amsterdam Pride van 8 tot en met 29 juli. Hoogtepunt is de Canal Parade\, een bonte stoet van boten die op de eerste zaterdag van augustus door de grachten vaart. De tocht gaat van het Oosterdok\, via de Nieuwe Herengracht\, de Amstel en de Prinsengracht naar het Westerdok. Op 4 november 2022 werd bekendgemaakt dat de WorldPride in 2026 in Amsterdam georganiseerd wordt. De WorldPride werd voor het eerst in 2000 gevierd in Rome en vindt sinds 2012 elke twee à drie jaar plaats. Meer nog dan reguliere Pride-feesten staat de WorldPride garant voor veel bezoekers van over de hele wereld. Dikwijls is het het grootste lgbtiq-evenement van het jaar. De WorldPride in Amsterdam zal tevens de EuroPride van 2026 zijn\, waarmee het voor de derde keer is dat de EuroPride in de hoofdstad gehouden wordt. De WorldPride is met een paar dagen overlap direct ná de Amsterdam Pride: van 25 juli tot en met 8 augustus. Extensive security measures led to the closure of several main arteries to traffic\, and administrative leave was granted to certain public personnel for the duration of the event. In the two weeks leading up to the summit\, anti-NATO protests took place in several cities\, including Istanbul\, Ankara\, and Izmir. DESCRIPTION:The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)\, or the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty\, is the first legally binding international agreement to prohibit nuclear weapons\, with the ultimate goal being their total elimination. \nIt was adopted on 7 July 2017\, opened for signature on 20 September 2017\, and entered into force on 22 January 2021. For those states that are party to it\, the treaty prohibits the development\, testing\, production\, stockpiling\, stationing\, transfer\, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons\, as well as assistance and encouragement to the prohibited activities. For nuclear-armed states joining the treaty\, it provides for a time-bound framework for negotiations leading to the verified and irreversible elimination of its nuclear weapons programme. A mandate adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 23 December 2016 scheduled two sessions for negotiations: 27 to 31 March and 15 June to 7 July 2017. The treaty passed on schedule on 7 July with 122 in favour\, 1 against (Netherlands)\, and 1 official abstention (Singapore). States that have joined the treaty are typically also members of nuclear-weapon-free zones. DESCRIPTION:In heel Nederland klinkt op elke eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 het luchtalarm van het waarschuwingsstelsel of waarschuwings- en alarmeringssysteem (WAS)\, behalve op feestdagen\, Nationale Dodenherdenking of bij andere speciale gebeurtenissen. \nDe test duurt 1 minuut en 26 seconden. In juni en december wordt tevens een NL-Alert testbericht verstuurd naar mobiele (GSM) telefoons. Het WAS is een netwerk van 4278 sirenes in Nederland die draadloos en onafhankelijk van elkaar aangezet kunnen worden vanuit de alarmcentrale van de regionale brandweer. De sirenes worden gebruikt om te waarschuwen via een luchtalarm voor (dreigend) gevaar\, met name indien er gevaarlijke stoffen in de lucht aanwezig (kunnen) zijn. Het systeem is ontwikkeld door Siemens\, en gebruikt elektronische sirenes op basis van de Federal Signal Modulator 2008 en 1004. Het waarschuwingsstelsel is eigendom van het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid\, en is op 3 juni 1998 in gebruik genomen. De bevolking is van tevoren geïnstrueerd om in het geval dat de sirene afgaat naar binnen te gaan\, ramen en deuren te sluiten en radio of televisie aan te zetten. Op de aangewezen calamiteitenzenders kan de overheid verdere aanwijzingen geven\, bijvoorbeeld dat een gebied geëvacueerd zal worden. \nExtinction Rebellion maakt er met de actie Luchtalarm – dit is een noodgeval! telkens met kleurrijke vlaggen en banners een mooi maar bloedserieus moment van. Met deze actie wil Extinction Rebellion NL aandacht vragen voor de klimaatcrisis en de biodiversiteitscrisis en duidelijk maken dat het al vijf over twaalf is. Sluit je voor een paar minuten aan bij deze actie en laat zien dat je ook vindt dat de overheid in actie moet komen om een leefbare toekomst voor ons en onze kinderen te waarborgen. Kom langs en doe mee! Iedereen is welkom. Neem borden mee\, we delen tijdens de actie ook patches uit waarmee we onze boodschap kunnen uitdragen. \n‘Het Ballenalarm‘ is een ludieke actie waarmee de Stichting Zaadbalkanker vraagt om extra aandacht voor zaadbalkanker\, ook wel teelbalkanker genoemd. Het idee is dat mannen op de eerste maandag van de maand om 12:00 – als de maandelijkse alarmsirenes loeien – hun teelballen checken\, en dit elke maand opnieuw. DESCRIPTION:Een zoönose is elke ziekte of infectie die van nature overdraagbaar is van gewervelde dieren op mensen. \nDieren spelen dus een essentiële rol bij het in stand houden van zoönotische infecties in de natuur. Zoönosen kunnen bacterieel\, viraal of parasitair zijn of onconventionele agentia omvatten. Zoönosen zijn vaak diersoortspecifiek en hebben meestal consequenties voor de volksgezondheid. Het woord zoönose is afgeleid van de Griekse woorden zoön (dier) en nosos (ziekte). Veel fulminant  (levensbedreigend) verlopende infectieziekten zijn zoönosen\, daar deze bacteriën\, protozoa\, virussen of wormen vaak zijn aangepast om in hun specifieke gastheer te overleven zonder al te veel schade aan te richten\, maar deze bij andere gastheren een heftige immuunreactie oproepen. DESCRIPTION:On July 6\, cooperatives around the world will celebrate the Day of Cooperatives. \nCo-operatives have been acknowledged as associations and enterprises through which citizens can effectively improve their lives while contributing to the economic\, social\, cultural and political advancement of their community and nation. The co-operative movement has been also recognized as a distinct and major stakeholder in both national and international affairs. Co-operatives’ open membership model affords access to wealth creation and poverty elimination. This results from the co-operative principle of members’ economic participation: ‘Members contribute equitably to\, and democratically control\, the capital of their co-operative.’ Because co-operatives are people-centred\, not capital-centred \, they do not perpetuate\, nor accelerate capital concentration and they distribute wealth in a more fair way. Co-operatives also foster external equality. As they are community-based\, they are committed to the sustainable development of their communities – environmentally\, socially and economically. This commitment can be seen in their support for community activities\, local sourcing of supplies to benefit the local economy\, and in decision-making that considers the impact on their communities. Despite their local community focus\, co-operatives also aspire to bring the benefits of their economic and social model to all people in the world. Globalization should be governed by a set of values such as those of the co-operative movement; otherwise\, it creates more inequality and excesses that render it unsustainable. The cooperative movement is highly democratic\, locally autonomous\, but internationally integrated\, and a form of organization of associations and enterprises whereby citizens themselves rely on self-help and their own responsibility to meet goals that include not only economic\, but also social and environmental objectives\, such as overcoming poverty\, securing productive employment and encouraging social integration. \nThe 2026 theme of the United Nations International Day of Cooperatives\, “Cooperatives for a peaceful world”\, affirms the contribution of cooperative enterprises to social justice\, inclusion and solidarity. It recognizes cooperatives as people-centered institutions that can help build trust\, strengthen social cohesion and bring communities together around shared needs and aspirations. In a world marked by conflict\, inequality\, social fragmentation and declining trust\, the theme recalls that peace is more than the absence of violence: it also requires inclusion\, fairness\, dialogue and economic security. Announced by the International Cooperative Alliance\, this year’s theme also reflects the capacity of the cooperative model to serve as a bridge between people and communities. Through democratic ownership\, open membership and collective responsibility\, cooperatives create spaces in which people can participate\, be heard and work together across social and economic divides.
