SUMMARY:RSF 40th anniversary Festival / Press freedom RSF Awards 2025
DESCRIPTION:The thirty-third edition of the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Awards will be a special edition\, held as part of the RSF Festival marking the NGO’s 40th anniversary at the Gaîté Lyrique cultural centre in Paris on 15 November 2025. \nTwenty-nine journalists\, photojournalists and media outlets from around the world will be honoured across five categories: the Courage Prize\, the Impact Prize\, the Independence Prize\, the Mohamed Maïga Prize for African Investigative Journalism and the Lucas Dolega-SAIF Photo Prize. The Press Freedom Awards will take place alongside films\, debates\, workshops\, exhibitions\, and performances as the RSF Festival celebrates four decades of defending press freedom\, access to reliable information and the protection of those who make it possible. The ceremony will be hosted by RSF Editorial Director Anne Bocandé and pay tribute to these “information heroes\,” spotlighting their courageous\, essential work. This year’s shortlist comprises 15 journalists\, nine media outlets and five photojournalists from 18 countries. All have made significant contributions to the defence and promotion of press freedom worldwide. Acclaimed actor and director Aïssa Maïga will present the Mohamed Maïga Prize for African Investigative Journalism. The prize\, added in 2024\, is overseen by RSF and the Mohamed Maïga Association and rewards the exemplary work of an African journalist on topics such as human rights\, the environment\, education and the right to information — issues dear to Aïssa Maïga’s father\, Malian investigative journalist Mohamed Maïga\, who died in unclear circumstances in 1984. \nLinks:\n2025 RSF Prize laureates to be announced at RSF Festival in Paris on 15 November \nRSF Press Freedom Awards: the 2025 laureates

SUMMARY:#StopOrganizedCrime Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime 2025
DESCRIPTION:In March 2024\, the General Assembly declared 15 November the International Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime\, in order to raise awareness of the threats posed by all forms of transnational organized crime and to enhance international cooperation in this regard. \nIt recognized the importance of the prevention of and fight against transnational organized crime for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The General Assembly commemorated all victims of organized crime\, including those who have lost their lives fighting such crime\, in particular law enforcement and judicial personnel\, and paying special tribute to all those persons\, such as Judge Giovanni Falcone\, whose work and sacrifice paved the way for the adoption of the Convention\, and affirming that their legacy lives on through our global commitment to preventing and combating organized crime. Organized crime thrives worldwide\, affecting governance and political processes\, and weakening the advancement of the rule of law. It encompasses\, inter alia\, illicit trafficking of firearms\, drugs\, protected species\, cultural property\, or falsified medical products and\, among its most severe manifestations\, human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants. It also includes the laundering of proceeds of crime and obstruction of justice. Moreover\, with all forms of organized crime shifting ever more to being dependent on or incorporating online aspects\, including the use of virtual assets\, its reach and capability of harm is increasing. Organized criminal groups are flexible in changing or expanding their illicit businesses for profit. They misuse vulnerabilities and crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic\, economic downturns\, natural disasters\, and armed conflicts exploiting them for their own purposes. Traditional\, territorial-based criminal groups have evolved or have been partially replaced by smaller and more flexible networks with branches across several jurisdictions. Criminal actors\, witnesses\, victims and proceeds of crime may be located in many different States. It is therefore evident\, that joint efforts from States across the world are required as organized crime cannot be tackled in isolation. \nThe 2025 campaign\, “Follow the money. Stop organized crime.”\, highlights the cost of transnational organized crime and underscores the importance of tracing illicit financial flows to cut the lifeline of criminal networks. By targeting the profits of organized crime\, we can disrupt operations\, strengthen justice and return stolen assets to communities. Everyone\, including Member States\, international organizations\, civil society\, the private sector and individuals\, is encouraged to take part in this year’s campaign. Transnational organized crime is a growing global threat that harms and exploits people\, communities\, economies and the planet. From the illicit drug trade and narco-deforestation to cybercrime\, human trafficking and trafficking in firearms and critical minerals\, transnational organized crime is everywhere and organized crime groups are generating billions of dollars in illicit proceeds each year. \nLinks:\nDay for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime

SUMMARY:Dag van de Gevangen Schrijver / Dag van de Vermoorde Schrijver / Day of the #ImprisonedWriter 2025
\nLinks:\nFree Them All: Day of the Imprisoned Writer 2025

SUMMARY:Mars voor gezonde landbouw
Hun gezamenlijke omzet is zo’n € 36 miljard (2024).

SUMMARY:Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property 2025
DESCRIPTION:Held every year on 14 November\, the International Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property reminds the world that theft\, looting and illicit trafficking of cultural property takes place in every country\, robbing people of their culture\, identity and history\, and that we have to work together to combat this crime. \nIllicit trafficking of cultural property has many causes\, and ignorance and poor ethics are at its very root. Illicitly traded cultural property is often transferred either through illicit markets worldwide or through licit markets such as auctions\, including through the Internet. People\, governments\, the art-market and institutions can do their part to fight this by raising awareness\, being informed and ethical when buying and selling art and cultural objects\, enacting and respecting laws\, and protecting cultural heritage and property. UNESCO first adopted 14 November as the International Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property during its 40th General Conference in 2019\, with the aim of drawing more attention to this crime and the ways to combat it\, as well as to highlight the importance of international cooperation and proactive measures through the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import\, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property (1970). This Convention\, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020\, provides an international framework for the prevention of theft and looting and the return and the restitution of stolen cultural property\, in parallel with other advances in the fight against illicit trafficking. It is important that every buyer complies with the required due diligence when verifying the provenance of cultural property acquired in order to put an end to the illicit trafficking of cultural property. The UNESCO Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects – with over 250 objects digitized\, this unique virtual museum highlights stolen objects and their original  contexts\, illuminated by  heartfelt testimonies of the communities they belong to – was launched in 2025. \nLinks:\nDay against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property

SUMMARY:#OperatingRoomNurseDay 2025
DESCRIPTION:Operating Room Nurse Day is is celebrated annually on November 14 and was created to celebrate nurses who provide care to patients before\, during and after surgery\, as well as support and assist surgeons. \nOperating room nurses\, also known as OR nurses\, perioperative nurses\, surgical nurses\, or theatre nurses\, are nurses that specialize in providing care to surgical patients. They are an essential part of the perioperative surgical team and work alongside surgeons\, anesthesiologists\, certified registered nurse anesthetists\, and surgical technicians. Any surgery has three main phases\, known collectively as the perioperative period: the preoperative phase\, the intraoperative phase\, and the postoperative phase. Surgical nurses support patients at each of these stages\, so even though they are often referred to as operating room nurses\, their activities aren’t restricted to the operating room. In some countries\, perioperative nurses can focus on performing specific roles\, such as circulating nurses\, instrument nurses (also known as scrub nurses)\, registered nurse first assistants (RNFA)\, and perianaesthesia nurses (or recovery nurses). OR nurses need to be tidy and organized\, have attention to detail\, be able to anticipate surgeons’ needs and show initiative when appropriate\, and\, of course\, have a good bedside manner and interpersonal skills. And\, naturally\, they need to be properly educated; people who want to become OR nurses usually specialize in surgical nursing while attending nursing school and are often required to pass certification exams before being allowed to work in the operating room. \nIt is usually surgeons and anesthesiologists who get all or most of the credit for successful surgeries\, whereas the contribution of operating room nurses is often overlooked. However\, their work throughout all stages of the perioperative period is immensely important and requires skill and expertise. Yes\, it is surgeons who save patients’ lives\, but it is OR nurses who are at their side every step of the way\, supporting and taking care. Operating Room Nurse Day was created to highlight the importance of OR nurses and celebrate everything they do for their patients and fellow healthcare professionals. It was first proclaimed in 1989 by Terry Branstad\, the then Governor of Iowa. Although this professional observance has no official nationwide recognition\, OR Nurse Day has been celebrated by the professional community ever since its inception. Celebrate Operating Room Nurse Day by thanking surgical nurses you know for their hard work. Send them a gift or a card\, give them a shout-out on social media\, or even visit them in person to deliver your congratulations. And don’t forget to spread the word about the holiday on social media with the hashtag #OperatingRoomNurseDay. Operating Room Nurse Day is not the only professional holiday dedicated to surgical nurses. The European Operating Room Nurses Association established the European Perioperative Nursing Day in the mid-2000s. It is celebrated annually on February 15. \nLinks:\nOperating Room Nurse Day

SUMMARY:#WorldDiabetesDay Wereld Diabetesdag 2025
Het thema van World Diabetes Dag 2024-2026 is ‘Diabetes en welzijn’ (Diabetes and well-being). \nLinks:\nWorld Diabetes Day \nWorld Diabetes Day\, IDF 2025 early rate extension\, new online course and more!

SUMMARY:Sit-in van Rijksambtenaren in Den Haag
– petitie

SUMMARY:Transgender Awareness Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Each year between November 13 – 19\, people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help increase understanding about transgender people and the issues members of the community face. \nTrans Awareness Week takes place the week before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)\, is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence that year. At a time when transgender people have become targets of extreme political discrimination and violence\, it’s imperative that anyone who is interested in and invested in protecting a free society learn the facts about who trans people are\, become educated about the realities trans people face\, and understand that our collective equality is connected to the safety and freedom of people who are transgender. Transgender Awareness Week is a week when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the trans community by educating the public about who transgender people are\, sharing stories and experiences\, and advancing advocacy around issues of prejudice\, discrimination\, and violence that affect the transgender community. \nLinks:\nTransgender Awareness Week

SUMMARY:Youth & food in transition : exploring adolescents' dietary behaviours for a healthy and sustainable future - publication
DESCRIPTION:Youth & Food in Transition: Exploring adolescents’ dietary behaviours for a healthy and sustainable future. \nHealthy and sustainable dietary behaviours are of high importance for individual and planetary health; as eating behaviours are largely shaped at a young age\, youth are considered a key target group to stimulate such dietary behaviours. There is growing attention worldwide for school food and nutrition programmes\, as schools provide a setting to reach a diverse and large number of adolescents. Nevertheless\, there is limited knowledge on effective school-based food and nutrition interventions. Hence\, this thesis explored how we can better support and empower adolescents to adopt healthy and sustainable diets\, within the Dutch secondary school context. \nThe first objective was to identify factors influencing healthy and sustainable diets among adolescents. First\, experts in health\, sustainability\, and education participated in focus groups and a questionnaire to map and prioritise key factors on a socioecological model. They emphasized the importance of peers\, the school food environment\, social influences\, food availability and autonomy. Next\, 305 students from four secondary schools in rural and urban areas were consulted through questionnaires\, a food environment mapping assignment\, and focus groups. Adolescents described their homes as places where healthy and sustainable eating is easier\, but perceived more freedom to make less healthy choices outside the home. They identified 18 factors influencing their food choices\, including autonomy\, the social function of food among peers\, the influence of caregivers\, and the offer and price of food. Together\, these findings highlight the need for more supportive social and physical environments that promote healthy and sustainable options\, while recognizing adolescents’ need to express autonomy. \nThe second objective was to analyse existing Dutch school food and nutrition programmes. First\, interviews with programme representatives showed that many programmes focus on health\, with some links to sustainability. Moreover\, programmes were mostly designed for the classroom\, with only some including other elements of whole school approaches (e.g.\, the school canteen). Secondly\, the interviews revealed that many programmes focus on improving knowledge\, skills and awareness. Besides\, representatives emphasized the importance of using experiential and activating learning methods\, and adjusting to adolescents’ realities. These findings suggest that programmes could be strengthened by integrating health and sustainability\, moving beyond knowledge and skills\, and using interactive learning methods that fit to adolescents’ realities. \nThe third objective explored adolescents’ own understanding and perceived importance of healthy and sustainable food\, as well as their ideas to facilitate healthy and sustainable eating. Most students understood the concept of healthy eating and perceived it as important\, while fewer students valued sustainability. Nonetheless\, adolescents proposed many ideas for future interventions\, mostly relating to changes in the food environment (e.g.\, offer\, price) and the food system (e.g.\, more sustainable production\, governmental subsidies). \nIn sum\, this this thesis underscores that initiatives aiming to stimulate healthy and sustainable diets among adolescents should prioritise adolescents’ need for autonomy\, social interactions\, and an appealing and affordable food offer. Redeveloping school food programmes together with adolescents holds particular promise\, to ensure engagement\, motivation and relevance. Such efforts should involve collaboration with multiple stakeholders\, following a whole school approach. \nAgenda – Sugar-sweetened beverages: consumption\, purchasing behaviour\, and opinions about policy measures in a nationally representative panel of Dutch secondary school adolescents – publication

SUMMARY:#StopPneumonia #EveryBreathCounts World Pneumonia Day / Wereld Longontstekingsdag 2025
DESCRIPTION:World Pneumonia Day (12 November) provides an annual forum for the world in the fight against pneumonia\, more than 100 organizations representing the interests of children joined forces as the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia to hold the first World Pneumonia Day on 12 November 2009. \nThe fight to reduce deaths from the single\, biggest infectious killer of adults and children has never been more urgent. In 2023\, pneumonia claimed the lives of 2.5 million\, including 610\,000 children under five\, according to the Global Burden of Disease. With aging populations\, urbanization\, and air pollution increasing the burden of respiratory infections\, and the risk of another COVID-like pandemic high\, there is a pneumonia crisis across the life course killing millions now and placing many more at risk of death when the next pandemic strikes. Tragically\, it is the very young and the very old who are at greatest risk. Children living in areas with low vaccination rates and malnutrition\, and in homes that use polluting fuels for cooking and heating\, are particularly vulnerable. Sixty percent of all child pneumonia deaths are attributable to malnutrition. Older adults exposed to outdoor air pollution – most significantly from burning fossil fuels – and smoking are also at risk. More than one in four pneumonia deaths among adults aged over 70 are attributable to air pollution and smoking. To focus the world’s attention on vital issues\, each year Every Breath Counts Coalition members vote on a theme. Child Survival is the theme for World Pneumonia Day 2025 in recognition that pneumonia is the leading infectious cause of child death. Many countries will not achieve the Sustainable Development Goal for child survival without ensuring that all of their children are protected from pneumonia with good nutrition\, clean air\, vaccination\, and access to speedy diagnosis and treatment\, including with antibiotics and oxygen if necessary. \nLinks:\nWorld Pneumonia Day 12 November

SUMMARY:Geomagnetic Storm G4 (Severe)
DESCRIPTION:The National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that there are three CMEs heading towards Earth from the Sun. \nNOAA measures the strength of these storms and says that there is chance of a Severe G4 geomagnetic storm being triggered especially on Wednesday 11 into Thursday 12 November 2025. Geomagnetic storms are dangerous for astronauts\, but not harmful to humans as Earth’s atmosphere protects us from the radiation\, but can sometimes disrupt satellites and also different forms of electronic devices\, such as phones. This storm is classed as a rare KP8. The KP index is an alternative measure of geomagnetic activity extending from KP1 to KP9. G4 (Severe) storm levels reached on 12 November at 01:20 UTC. \nLinks:\nG4 (Severe) Watch in Effect for 12 November \nNoorderlichtkans 11-12 november 2025 \nG4 (Severe) storm levels reached on 12 November at 0120 UTC \nStormachtig ruimteweer door uitbarstingen op de zon \nSolar cycle 25

SUMMARY:The Sky at Night – Space Mysteries: The Sky at Night Meets Curious Cases (TV BBC Four)
DESCRIPTION:The Sky at Night is a monthly documentary television programme on astronomy produced by the BBC. \nThe show had the same permanent presenter\, Patrick Moore\, from its first broadcast on 24 April 1957 until 7 January 2013. The latter date was a posthumous broadcast\, which followed Moore’s death on 9 December 2012. This made it the longest-running programme with the same presenter in television history. Many early episodes are missing\, either because the tapes were wiped\, thrown out\, or because the episode was broadcast live and never recorded in the first place. Beginning with the 3 February 2013 edition\, the show was co-presented by Lucie Green and Chris Lintott. Since December 2013 Maggie Aderin-Pocock has been a presenter. The programme’s opening and closing theme music is “At the Castle Gate”\, from the incidental music to Pelléas et Mélisande\, written in 1905 by Jean Sibelius\, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham. \nThis episode:\nDo aliens exist\, and can we talk to them? What does a black hole sound like? Does the universe look like a doughnut? In a spectacular season finale\, The Sky at Night teams up with hit podcast Curious Cases to answer your burning space mysteries\, from the strange sounds of the\ncosmos to the furthest edges of the observable universe. \nFilmed in front of a live studio audience\, presenters Hannah Fry and Dara Ó Briain bring their signature wit and curiosity as they quiz our stellar panel of experts – Maggie Aderin-Pocock\, Chris Lintott and George Dransfield. Expect lively debate\, surprising revelations\, and moments of pure astronomical awe as they explore the weird and wonderful corners of space science. \nMeanwhile\, Pete Lawrence turns his eyes to the heavens to guide us through the incredible sights currently lighting up the night sky and offering a glimpse into the mysteries that unfold when we simply look up. \nAdding another layer of intrigue\, a special BBC Ideas animation explores our ongoing search for alien life and the tantalising possibility of making contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. \nAnd for those who want to keep the curiosity flowing\, Radio 4 are airing a companion episode of Curious Cases\, featuring extra content from the live recording. \nJoin us for this unforgettable night of cosmic exploration before the programme returns in the spring of 2026 with even more wonders from the final frontier. \nDo aliens exist\, and can we talk to them? SUMMARY:#COP30 United Nations Climate Change Conference Belém - November 2025
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference\, or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC\, more commonly known as COP30\, is the 30th United Nations Climate Change conference\, to be held in Belém\, Brazil\, from 10 to 21 November 2025. \nThe city’s candidacy was announced by Brazilian president Lula da Silva during his visit to the COP 27\, held in Sharm El Sheikh\, Egypt\, and made official in January 2023. United Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are central to the Paris Agreement and to achieving its long-term goals. They include each country’s efforts to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. NDCs 3.0\, which represent the third round of country contributions\, must be progressive and more ambitious than the current NDCs and could be the last chance to put the world on a path towards a global emissions trajectory consistent with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 °C goal\, according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). \nLinks:\nUN Climate Change Conference – Belém\, November 2025 \nCOP30 Amazônia \nCOP30 – Klimaattop zorgt voor ontbossing: regenwoud Amazone gekapt voor snelweg \nAmazon forest felled to build road for climate summit | BBC News \nAgenda – Lula: vergiftig het Amazonewoud niet! – petitie \nTen Years of the Paris Agreement: The Present and Future of Extreme Heat \nTien jaar na het Parijsakkoord: opwarming stopt niet \nGlobal Tipping Points Report 2025 – publication \nAgenda – Adaptation Gap Report 2025 – publication \nCOP30 – Greenpeace / Klimaattop COP30 komt eraan: 5 dingen die je wilt weten \nAgenda – Climate Plunder: How a Powerful Few Europeans are Locking the World into a Climate Disaster – publication \nAgenda – Emissions Gap Report 2025 \nCOP30 – Klimaattop van wereldleiders\, 6-7 november 2025 \nDe onvermijdelijkheid van zeespiegelstijging \nGouverneur van Californië Gavin Newsom heeft felle kritiek op afwezige Trump tijdens VN-klimaattop: ‘Domme beslissingen’ \nCOP30 – Vroege Vogels \nCOP30: FAO warns climate funding gap threatens agrifood systems transformation \nNiet op agenda klimaattop\, maar opeens gaat het erover: fossiele brandstoffen \nKNMI bij de klimaattop COP30 in Brazilië \nOutcomes Report of the Global Climate Action Agenda at COP 30 \nDid COP30 Succeed or Fail? \nMapping tipping risks from Antarctic ice basins under global warming / Delen Antarctica reageren anders op opwarming: ‘Is al sprake van kantelpunt’

SUMMARY:Wereld Wezendag / UN #WorldOrphansDay 2025
DESCRIPTION:Two observances named World Orphans Day have been established to raise awareness of their plight; the first is observed on April 20 and the second on the second Monday of November. \nLosing both parents is one of the worst things that can happen to a child. There are hundreds of millions of orphans in the world who need someone to take care of them. In common usage\, an orphan is a child who has lost both parents. However\, some organizations\, including UNICEF and UNAIDS\, label children who have lost one parents as orphans\, too. The number of double orphans\, i.e. those who have lost both parents\, is relatively low in developed countries; the highest numbers of orphans exist in countries affected by extreme poverty\, wars\, and epidemics. Regions with the highest percentage of orphans are Africa (almost 12% of all children)\, Latin America & the Caribbean (about 7.5% of all children)\, and Asia (6.5% of all children). \nAccording to statistics\, every 19 seconds somewhere in the world\, a child is orphaned\, and 99% of orphans are never adopted. Most countries with high numbers of orphans usually don’t have a good system in place to support all orphaned children. Thousands of orphans across the globe live as street children devoid of parental care and vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Orphans raised in orphanages often struggle to adjust to adult life once released from the orphanage because they lack education\, resources\, and skills to support themselves. As a result\, many of them become homeless and commit crimes to survive\, or even end up committing suicide. \nSince governments of poor countries devastated by wars and epidemics are unable to provide orphans with proper care\, international organizations have to step in. There are a lot of organizations and programs supporting orphans worldwide. Two of them have established a World Orphans Day. World Orphans Day celebrated on April 20 was founded by Worldwide Organization for Charity (WOC)\, previously known as World Orphan Center. The organization is working to support orphans\, underprivileged children and widows with the ultimate goal of making them self-reliant through various support schemes\, ranging from coverage of living expenses to adoption. \nWorld Orphans Day celebrated on the second Monday of November was launched in 2006 by the Stars Foundation\, a Nashville-based organization comprised of the entertainment industry\, dignitaries\, and media and sports personalities that seeks to raise money to help orphans\, children in foster care\, street children\, and other vulnerable children. Both World Orphans Days aim to raise awareness about orphans worldwide and encourage people to support orphans any way they can. Of course\, giving an orphan a new loving family is the best way to change their life for the better\, but we realize that adoption isn’t for everyone. There are a lot of other ways to help orphans: you can donate to an organization that supports orphans\, volunteer at an orphanage\, organize an awareness event in your community\, and spread the word on social media with the hashtag #WorldOrphansDay. \nLinks:\nACT Commemorates World Orphans Day

SUMMARY:World Science Day for Peace and Development / Wereldwetenschapdag voor Vrede en Ontwikkeling 2025
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated every 10 November\, World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues\, it also underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives. \nBy linking science more closely with society\, World Science Day for Peace and Development aims to ensure that citizens are kept informed of developments in science. It also underscores the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the remarkable\, fragile planet we call home and in making our societies more sustainable. The Day offers the opportunity to mobilize all actors around the topic of science for peace and development – from government officials to the media to school pupils. UNESCO strongly encourages all to join in celebrating World Science Day for Peace and Development by organizing your own event or activity on the day. The organization of a focused event related to the commitment to science and society was one of the positive outcomes of the 1999 World Conference on Science in Budapest. It was considered an opportunity to reaffirm each year the commitment to attaining the goals proclaimed in the Declaration on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge and to follow up the recommendations of the Science Agenda: Framework for Action. Since its proclamation by UNESCO in 2001\, World Science Day for Peace and Development has generated many concrete projects\, programmes\, and funding for science around the world. The Day has also helped foster cooperation between scientists living in regions marred by conflict—one example being the UNESCO-supported creation of the Israeli-Palestinian Science Organization (IPSO). The rationale of celebrating a World Science Day for Peace and Development has its roots in the importance of the role of science and scientists for sustainable societies and in the need to inform and involve citizens in science. In this sense\, a World Science Day for Peace and Development offers an opportunity to show the general public the relevance of science in their lives and to engage them in discussions. Such a venture also brings a unique perspective to the global search for peace and development. \nLinks:\nWorld Science Day for Peace and Development
