DESCRIPTION:De Nederlandse gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in 2026 zijn reguliere gemeenteraadsverkiezingen die – in het grootste deel van Nederland – zullen worden gehouden op 18 maart 2026. \nGemeenten die eind 2026 een herindelingsverkiezing hebben\, slaan de reguliere verkiezingen over. Het betreft hier gemeenten waarvoor in de periode van 1 oktober tot en met 31 december 2025 een voorstel van wet tot wijziging van de gemeentelijke indeling zal worden ingediend bij de Tweede Kamer. Welke gemeenten dat zijn\, is nog onbekend. De herindelingsverkiezingen voor de bij deze wetsvoorstellen betrokken gemeenten zullen plaatsvinden in november 2026. De openbare lichamen Bonaire\, Saba en Sint Eustatius (Caribisch Nederland) hebben veel taken die in de rest van Nederland door gemeenten worden uitgevoerd. De eilandsraadsverkiezingen voor deze openbare lichamen vinden echter tegelijk met Provinciale Statenverkiezingen plaats die voor het eerst weer in 2027 zullen worden gehouden. Bij de verkiezingen in 2026 wordt er landelijk nog geen nieuw formaat voor het stembiljet ingevoerd. Minister Judith Uitermark (Binnenlandse Zaken) heeft aangegeven dat eerst een groter experiment nodig is. Dit nieuwe stembiljet werd tijdens de Europese Parlementsverkiezingen van 2024 in vijf gemeenten getest. De test met het kleinere stembiljet toonde positieve reacties\, maar er waren ook meer ongeldige stemmen in de experimenteergemeenten. Om dit verder te onderzoeken\, zal in 2026 een nieuwe proef worden uitgevoerd. Naast de vijf gemeenten die eerder deelnamen (Alphen aan den Rijn\, Boekel\, Borne\, Midden-Delfland en Tynaarlo)\, zullen ook vijf grote gemeenten worden gevraagd mee te doen. Er zal extra aandacht zijn voor voorlichting en organisatieverbeteringen. But its ability to partially evade immune defenses means it could still contribute to seasonal upticks in infections\, especially in populations with prior exposure or vaccination. The defining feature of the Cicada variant lies in changes to its spike protein — the structure the virus uses to enter human cells. This protein is also the main target of immune defenses built through vaccination or previous infection. When mutations alter the spike protein\, antibodies may bind less effectively\, reducing their ability to neutralize the virus. DESCRIPTION:Sit-in door een groep Nederlandse ambtenaren die zich ernstige zorgen maakt over het aanhoudende Israëlische offensief in Gaza – dat volgens het Internationaal Gerechtshof bestempeld werd als plausibele genocide- en het Nederlandse beleid in reactie hierop. \nJe kent ze misschien van de sit-ins die elke donderdag om 12:00 plaatsvinden voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Als ambtenaren zijn zij doordrongen van het belang van internationaal recht. Ze legden een eed af op de Grondwet\, inclusief artikel 90 waarin staat dat de regering de internationale rechtsorde bevordert. Het is aan de politiek om het beleid uiteen te zetten\, dat klopt. Maar ook de politiek heeft zich te houden aan onze Grondwet en aan internationaal verdragsrechtelijke verplichtingen. Het is aan ambtenaren om de politiek erop te wijzen wanneer beleid het internationaal recht (mogelijk) schaadt. En die taak – die plicht – nemen zij zeer serieus. Zij verwachten van onze regering dat zij zich onvermoeibaar in gaat zetten voor consistente naleving van het internationaal recht. Concreet stellen zij vier eisen aan de Nederlandse regering en verwachten wij van de regering dat alle diplomatieke middelen worden aangewend om onderstaande te bewerkstelligen: \n1. Maximale inzet op een onmiddellijk en permanent staakt-het-vuren en volledige humanitaire toegang tot Gaza. \n2. ⁠Een eind aan alle vormen van steun voor én rechtvaardiging van Israëls huidige militaire optreden in Gaza en erkenning van het internationale humanitaire en oorlogsrecht; \n3. ⁠De onmiddellijke naleving van recente uitspraken van het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ). \n4. DESCRIPTION:The International Energy Agency (IEA) set out a range of demand-side actions that governments\, businesses and households can take to alleviate the economic impacts on consumers of the disruptions to oil markets stemming from the war in the Middle East. \nThe conflict has triggered the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market\, with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz\, which normally carries around 20% of global oil consumption\, reduced to a trickle. Around 20 million barrels per day of crude oil and oil products typically transit the Strait. The loss of these flows has tightened markets significantly\, pushing crude oil prices above $100 per barrel and driving even sharper increases in refined products such as diesel\, jet fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Restoring transit through the Strait of Hormuz remains essential to stabilise global energy markets. In the meantime\, countries are acting on both supply and demand. On 11 March\, IEA Member countries agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil from emergency reserves – the largest stock draw in the Agency’s history. However\, supply-side measures alone cannot fully offset the scale of the disruption. Addressing demand is a critical and immediate tool to reduce pressure consumers by improving affordability and supporting energy security. The IEA report ‘Sheltering from Oil Shocks‘ identifies ten measures that can be implemented quickly by governments\, businesses and households. These actions focus primarily on road transport\, which accounts for around 45% of global oil demand\, but also cover aviation\, cooking and industry. DESCRIPTION:Wereld Kikkerdag (World Frog Day) is een dag om bewustzijn de kweken voor kikkers (Anura) en andere amfibieën\, kikkerpopulaties worden bedreigd\, veel soorten dreigen te verdwijnen of zijn zelfs al uitgestorven. \nKikkers zijn een van de drie groepen van amfibieën\, naast de salamanders (Caudata) en de wormsalamanders (Gymnophiona). Kikkers zijn hiervan verreweg de grootste groep; van de ongeveer 8270 soorten amfibieën behoort grofweg 88% tot de kikkers. Er zijn tegenwoordig ruim 7300 verschillende soorten kikkers beschreven. Kikkers hebben een vrijwel wereldwijde verspreiding en leven in sterk uiteenlopende habitats. Kikkers behoren tot de gewervelde dieren\, ze hebben vier poten maar geen staart en verschillen hiermee van de meeste andere amfibieën. Alle kikkers hebben een afgeplat\, peervormig lichaam en uitpuilende ogen. De kop en bek zijn breed\, de lange achterpoten zijn sterk gespierd en goed ontwikkeld. Kikkers zijn de enige dieren die een kwaakblaas hebben en hiermee soortspecifieke geluiden maken om elkaar te lokken. Net als andere amfibieën zijn kikkers koudbloedig\, hierop is zowel de bloedsomloop als de ademhaling aangepast. \nEen aantal soorten houdt een zomerrust of winterslaap om erg warme respectievelijk koude jaargetijden te doorstaan. De ontwikkeling van de larve tot volwassen kikker is uniek binnen de gewervelden. Kikkers doorlopen een volledige metamorfose waarbij de larve er totaal anders uitziet dan de volwassen kikker. Kikkers eten een breed scala aan prooien\, meestal kleine dieren als insecten en andere ongewervelden. De grotere soorten eten soms kleine gewervelden. Kikkers hebben daarnaast vele natuurlijke vijanden zoals vissen\, vogels\, zoogdieren en reptielen. Veel soorten worden direct of indirect bedreigd door de mens\, een aantal soorten is hierdoor sterk bedreigd of uitgestorven. Sinds 1985 is het aantal beschreven amfibieën met meer dan een derde toegenomen\, dit geldt met name voor de kikkers. De indeling van de kikkers is door deze constante aanvoer van nieuwe inzichten sterk aan verandering onderhevig. Rising global temperatures are causing glaciers to retreat at an alarming rate\, leading to water scarcity\, rising sea levels\, and increasing the chances of natural disasters like floods or landslides. These cascading changes jeopardize ecosystems\, human livelihoods\, and economies around the world. To address this urgent challenge\, ambitious action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is essential. On World Day for Glaciers\, UNESCO calls for global action to protect glaciers and their crucial role in sustaining life on Earth for future generations. With over 2 billion people relying on glacier and snowmelt for freshwater—and projections showing that one-third of glacier sites could disappear by 2050—raising awareness and taking action to protect these vital ecosystems has never been more urgent. DESCRIPTION:Bij personen met het syndroom van Down of trisomie-21 komt het chromosoom 21 drie maal voor\, vandaar dat de datum 21/3 (21 maart) tot Wereld Downsyndroom dag is gekozen. \nHet syndroom van Down is een aangeboren afwijking die gepaard gaat met een verstandelijke beperking\, typerende uitwendige kenmerken en bepaalde medische problemen\, en die veroorzaakt wordt doordat het erfelijk materiaal van chromosoom 21 in drievoud voorkomt (in plaats van in tweevoud). Het syndroom komt voor op ongeveer 4\,6 van de 10.000 geboortes en in alle bevolkingsgroepen.
