Elk jaar organiseert een bepaalde gaststad in steeds weer een ander land de vergadering. Gelukkig zijn veel hittemaatregelen relatief simpel\, en gebeurt er al veel: gemeenten\, provincies\, woningcorporaties\, gezondheidsorganisaties en kennisinstellingen werken hard aan oplossingen. Maar er is meer nodig. Daarom is Heat Action Day jaarlijks dé dag om samen stil te staan bij het belang van de aanpak van hittestress. The mission is to explain to the people that emergency medical care is better performed with competent professionals; doctors\, specialists in emergency medicine\, nurses trained in emergency and acute care\, paramedics\, technicians\, support personnel competent and working in organized structures and systems dedicated to emergency medical care. To show to people and governments that this organization makes a difference in terms of morbidity\, mortality\, and cost-effectiveness. The 27th of May is the day when Emergency Medicine in Europe took its beginning. In London a group of visionary people signed the founding act of the European Society for Emergency Medicine. The aim was to build up a system model to grant to every citizen in Europe a professional\, competent and above all timely response to any life\, organ or limb threatening acute condition. DESCRIPTION:Every year on May 26th\, people around the globe celebrate World Redhead Day—a day dedicated to embracing the uniqueness of redheads and highlighting the beauty of being different. \nAs a natural redhead\, I’ve spent my life being noticed before I’ve even spoken a word. And while much of that attention is well-meaning—even admiring—it has also come with assumptions\, stereotypes\, and moments of feeling different in ways I didn’t always welcome. Growing up as a redhead often meant being the target of familiar jokes and playful teasing—comments about fiery tempers\, having no soul\, or comparisons to fictional characters. While usually intended as harmless fun\, those remarks could make me feel like a caricature\, boxed into a stereotype that didn’t reflect who I truly was. These moments\, though not meant to hurt\, were constant reminders that standing out can also mean being misunderstood. \nRed is the rarest hair color\, with only 2 percent of the world’s population having it. Most redheads are of northern or western European ancestry; the highest percentage of redheads come from Scotland\, followed by Ireland. Besides celebrating red hair\, the day raises awareness about the stigma associated with red hair\, and the discrimination that redheads sometimes face. Redheads are often stereotyped as having a fiery temper. There even is Kick a Ginger Day\, which has led to some children being bullied. In ancient Greece\, some redheads were considered to be vampires. Many redheads were killed in Europe between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries because they were perceived to be associated with witchcraft. \nRed hair is caused by a mutated MC1R gene. If both parents carry this gene—even if they don’t have red hair themselves—their child has a one in four chance of being born with red hair. Those with red hair actually have less hair on their heads. A redhead has on average 90\,000 strands of hair on their head\, while blondes have about 110\,000\, and brunettes have 140\,000. What redheads lack in number they make up in thickness\, though\, as strands of red hair are thicker than the strands of other colors. Red hair also strongly holds its pigment; it is hard to dye red hair a different color unless it is bleached first. \nMost people with red hair also have brown eyes\, although a few have blue eyes. There is also some indication that those with red hair are more likely to be left-handed. Those with red hair may also be more sensitive to hot and cold pain\, and to pain during surgery. As redheads go through life\, their hair begins to fade\, turning blond\, then white\, but never being grey. DESCRIPTION:Over minder dan 24 uur\, op 28 april 2026\, zou Israël eindelijk consequenties kunnen zien voor het annexeren van de Westelijke Jordaanoever en het afschuwelijke kolonistengeweld tegen Palestijnse gezinnen die daar wonen. \nIsraël versnelt de feitelijke annexatie van de Westelijke Jordaanoever via een door de staat goedgekeurd plan\, en schendt daarmee op grove wijze het internationaal recht. Op 28 april 2026 komen ministers van Buitenlandse zaken bijeen in Brussel om de situatie te bespreken – dit is hét moment om op te roepen tot een verbod op import uit illegale nederzettingen! Meer dan 85 landen hebben zich al uitgesproken\, maar woorden zijn niet genoeg. Israël versnelt de feitelijke annexatie van de Westelijke Jordaanoever via een door de staat goedgekeurd plan\, en schendt daarmee op grove wijze het internationaal recht. Het geweld neemt snel toe. Kolonisten verdrijven Palestijnse gezinnen\, leggen beslag op hun huizen\, en in de afgelopen maanden hebben ze honderden olijfbomen ontworteld\, Palestijnse dorpen aangevallen\, huizen en voertuigen in brand gestoken en minstens zestien Palestijnen gedood. Een man werd verkracht waar zijn gezin bij was\, en meerdere vrouwen en meisjes zijn ernstig mishandeld. Dit moet stoppen en het kan anders. Een toekomst waarin Palestijnen veilig op hun eigen land wonen\, vrij om te groeien\, te bouwen en gelukkig te zijn is nog steeds mogelijk! Laten we ons hard maken voor die toekomst. Negen landen hebben de architecten van de annexatie al sancties opgelegd\, nu moeten we doorpakken. Als we nu in actie komen kunnen we een groot aantal landen oproepen om alle import uit illegale nederzettingen op te schorten en brede sancties op te leggen\, zodat deze gewelddadige overname te duur wordt voor Israël om voort te zetten. \nAls onze oproep groot genoeg is\, overhandigt Avaaz deze morgen rechtstreeks aan de ministertop: Het annexatieplan is wereldwijd veroordeeld\, ook door de Verenigde Staten. En er komt steeds meer steun voor meer landen om sancties op te leggen aan Israëls extremistische ministers Itamar Ben Gvir en Bezalel Smotrich. Maar woorden alleen zijn niet genoeg om het kabinet van Netanyahu te stoppen. Zonder concrete consequenties zullen ze gewoon doorgaan.\nWe kunnen meer landen oproepen om alle handel met nederzettingen stil te leggen en sancties opleggen aan iedere ambtenaar die voor annexatie heeft gestemd. Volgens het internationaal recht is het niet alleen illegaal om burgers naar bezet gebied te verplaatsen; het is een oorlogsmisdaad. En deze leiders zijn daarvoor persoonlijk verantwoordelijk. Sancties opleggen aan leden van het kabinet geeft een duidelijk signaal af: schending van het internationaal recht heeft politieke en economische gevolgen. Als landen zoals Spanje en Frankrijk de leiding nemen\, kunnen anderen volgen\, en zo wordt de druk opgevoerd. Het breedgedragen protest tegen de genocide in Gaza laat zien dat overheden in actie komen als ze grote\, aanhoudende druk ervaren van burgers overal ter wereld. Teken nu: Het is makkelijk je moedeloos te voelen in tijden als deze. Maar als mensen zich uitspreken kunnen ze de geschiedenis veranderen. Door vandaag nog de handen ineen te slaan kunnen we helpen een wereldwijde kettingreactie teweeg te brengen die de Israëlische overheid dwingt om deze illegale bezetting te stoppen.

DESCRIPTION:The European Week Against Cancer (EWAC)\, an initiative from the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) that takes place between 25 and 31 May each year to raise awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and care. \nCancer continues to affect thousands of people across Europe every year. Cancer claimed the lives of an estimated 1.3 million people in 2022 alone\, making it the leading cause of death for people aged under 65 in Europe. Together\, we can reverse this trend. Where you live should not determine your risk of cancer or your chances of surviving it. Cancer affects everyone\, but the differences in how it is prevented\, diagnosed\, and treated remain deeply unequal across Europe. Theme European Week Against Cancer 2026 is ‘Together against cancer inequalities’\, a call to end inequalities in access to prevention\, early detection\, treatment and care for all. Cancer leagues and partners across Europe are coming together to promote the European Week Against Cancer both online and in communities across the continent\, and we invite you to be a part of it. Each day of the week spotlights a key theme\, covering the full cancer care journey\, from prevention and early prevention to treatment\, patient support\, survivorship\, and cancer research. DESCRIPTION:De Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is een jaarlijks sportevenement in het gebied Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. \nHet evenement was in eerste instantie door en voor de mensen die in Brockworth wonen\, maar tegenwoordig komen de deelnemers uit alle delen van de wereld. Vanaf de top van Cooper’s Hill wordt een Double Gloucester-kaas naar beneden gerold en de deelnemers rennen erachteraan. De eerste die de finish onderaan de heuvel passeert\, wint de kaas. In theorie is het de bedoeling dat de deelnemers de kaas proberen te vangen\, maar dit lukt in de praktijk niet\, want de kaas heeft één seconde voorsprong en kan snelheden tot zo’n 100 kilometer per uur bereiken. Als gevolg van de steilheid en het ongelijke oppervlak van de heuvel raakt gewoonlijk een flink aantal deelnemers gewond. DESCRIPTION:In the UN Charter\, a Non-Self-Governing Territory is defined as a territory “whose people have not yet attained a full measure of self-government.” \nIn 1946\, several UN Member States identified a number of territories under their administration that were not self-governing and placed them on a UN list. Countries administering Non-Self-Governing Territories are called administering Powers. As a result of the decolonization process over the years\, most of the territories were removed from the list. Chapter XI of the UN Charter – the Declaration regarding Non-Self-Governing Territories – provides that Member States administering Territories\, which have not attained self-government recognize “that the interests of the inhabitants of these territories are paramount” and accept as a “sacred trust” the obligation to promote their well-being. Furthermore\, administering Powers\, in addition to ensuring the political\, economic\, social and educational advancement of the peoples\, undertake to assist them in developing self-government and free political institutions. Administering Powers also have an obligation to transmit regularly to the Secretary-General information on the economic\, social and educational conditions in the territories under their administration. In a later agreement\, the UN General Assembly\, by its resolution 54/91 of 6 December 1999\, urged the administering Powers concerned to take effective measures to safeguard and guarantee the inalienable rights of the peoples of the Non-Self-Governing Territories to their natural resources\, including land\, and to establish and maintain control over the future development of those resources\, and requested the administering Powers to take all necessary steps to protect the property rights of the peoples of those territories. It also urged all States\, directly and through their action in the specialized agencies and other organizations of the United Nations system\, to provide moral and material assistance to the peoples of the Non-Self-Governing Territories. Through the same resolution\, the General Assembly requested the annual observance of the Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non-Self-Governing Territories. Het wordt elke zondagmorgen uitgezonden tussen 07:00 en 10:00 op NPO Radio 1. De beginmuziek is een bewerking van Vivaldi’s “Piccolo Concerto in C major” (RV 443). De tv editie wordt uitgezonden via NPO 2 op zondag\, vaak rond een thema. \nLangs de oevers van de Oude Maas zijn oude wilgenbossen bewaard gebleven. Waar vroeger wilgen werden geknot voor hakhout\, liggen nu bossen vol cultuurhistorie en natuur. Het riviergetij zorgt voor bloeiende zomerklokjes en spindotterbloemen\, en ook de boomkronen van rottende wilgen blijken ideale plekken voor planten om te ontkiemen. Menno Bentveld ziet een bever zwemmen in de Rhoonse Grienden. Ook laat de zeldzame matkop zich zien in de bomen van Klein Profijt. DESCRIPTION:Een psychose is een psychiatrisch toestandsbeeld waarbij de patiënt gedurende een zekere periode het contact met de werkelijkheid geheel of gedeeltelijk kwijt is. \nBij een psychose spreekt men van positieve en negatieve symptomen. Positieve symptomen zijn symptomen die duidelijk bij iemand aanwezig zijn\, zoals hallucinaties en wanen. Het begrip negatief symptoom verwijst naar afwezigheid of vervlakking van iets\, bijvoorbeeld emotie\, spraak\, daadkracht of gedachten. Positieve symptomen zijn: \n\n    Wanen – Denkbeelden die niet overeenkomen met algemeen geaccepteerde opvattingen en of ideeën waarvan de patiënt niet af te brengen is met logisch redeneren. Vaak\, maar niet altijd\, is er ook sprake van paranoia; overmatige achterdocht die bijvoorbeeld leidt tot de inbeelding dat overal camera’s of microfoons verstopt zijn\, dat er complotten zijn\, of dat de persoon in kwestie gezocht wordt door de politie of door internationale veiligheidsdiensten.\n    Hallucinaties – Het waarnemen van zaken die er niet zijn\, zoals stemmen in het hoofd\, beelden\, geuren of aanrakingen.\n    Verward denken – Psychotici en hun omgeving hebben erg veel moeite elkaar te begrijpen doordat het denk- en uitdrukkingsproces veranderd is door de psychose. Het is chaotisch en of te langzaam of te snel. Het gedrag van de patiënt is door zijn omgeving vaak niet meer te plaatsen (en vice versa). De gedachtenstop\, waarbij de patiënt het gevoel heeft dat zijn gedachten plotseling volledig stoppen\, wordt als een ernstige vorm van denkstoornis gezien.\n    Verward spreken en schrijven – Zelfs als de gedachten van de patiënt samenhangend zijn kan hij problemen hebben deze in taal te uiten. Soms uit zich dit in gehaast spreken\, vreemde woordkeuzes of het gebruik van neologismen. Bij grotere verwarring kunnen ook verschijnselen als echolalie\, palilalie of glossolalie optreden.\n    Verstoorde emoties – Een patiënt kan versterkte emoties ervaren of totaal niet bij een situatie passende\, zoals lachen op een begrafenis. Ook kan iemand schijnbaar zonder reden plotseling emotioneel worden; hij of zij begint bijvoorbeeld ineens te huilen. DESCRIPTION:Since 2016\, the 23rd of May marks the annual EU Day Against Impunity for Genocide\, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes. \nUnder the auspices of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in cooperation with the European Commission\, the Genocide Prosecution Network and Eurojust\, this initiative aims to raise awareness of the most heinous crimes of genocide\, crimes against humanity and war crimes. At the same time\, the EU Day Against Impunity is intended to promote national investigations and prosecutions\, to formally recognise the common efforts of the EU Member States and the European Union in enforcing international criminal law\, to address the position and participation of victims in criminal proceedings for these crimes\, and to reinvigorate Europe-wide commitment to the continuing fight against impunity for these crimes. The first EU Day Against Impunity took place on 23 May 2016. Since then\, the event has been attended by practitioners\, representatives of international tribunals\, Member States\, the European Institutions and international organisations\, non-governmental organisations\, academics\, lawyers\, journalists\, etc. The initiative represents the implementation of one of the measures decided in the Strategy of the Genocide Prosecution Network to combat impunity for the crime of genocide\, crimes against humanity and war crimes within the European Union and its Member States (Measure 7c). \nLinks:\nEU Day Against Impunity
