DESCRIPTION:De Wet bescherming nationale veiligheid door de inlichtingen- en veiligheidsdiensten (Wbnv) regelt wat de Algemene Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst (AIVD) en de Militaire Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst (MIVD) allemaal mogen doen\, de nieuwe wet zorgt ervoor dat deze diensten hun werk sneller en effectiever kunnen uitvoeren\, om nieuwe (of bestaande) dreigingen tegen te gaan. \nDenk hierbij aan aanvallen online om gegevens van de overheid\, bedrijven of personen te stelen\, of de oorlogsdreiging vanuit Rusland. Omdat de diensten met gevoelige gegevens werken\, wordt er toezicht gehouden op hun werk. Ook dat is vernieuwd om beter aan te sluiten op het werk van de diensten. Met de nieuwe wet kunnen de diensten tegenstanders van Nederland beter in de gaten houden en onze krijgsmacht ondersteunen. DESCRIPTION:On 21 December 2010\, by its resolution 65/209 the UN General Assembly expressed its deep concern about the increase in enforced or involuntary disappearances in various regions of the world\, including arrest\, detention and abduction\, when these are part of or amount to enforced disappearances\, and by the growing number of reports concerning harassment\, ill-treatment and intimidation of witnesses of disappearances or relatives of persons who have disappeared. \nBy the same resolution the Assembly welcomed the adoption of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance\, and decided to declare 30 August the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances\, to be observed beginning in 2011. According to the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance\, proclaimed by the General Assembly in its resolution 47/133 of 18 December 1992 as a body of principles for all States\, an enforced disappearance occurs when: \n“persons are arrested\, detained or abducted against their will or otherwise deprived of their liberty by officials of different branches or levels of Government\, or by organized groups or private individuals acting on behalf of\, or with the support\, direct or indirect\, consent or acquiescence of the Government\, followed by a refusal to disclose the fate or whereabouts of the persons concerned or a refusal to acknowledge the deprivation of their liberty\, which places such persons outside the protection of the law.” \n2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances\, the only universal treaty specifically dedicated to preventing and eradicating enforced disappearances. Under the slogan “Victims first. Actions now” \, the anniversary puts victims and their rights to truth\, justice and reparation at the centre\, while calling on States and other stakeholders to act to prevent enforced disappearances. Twenty years after the Convention’s adoption\, enforced disappearances continue to occur in every region\, making universal ratification and full implementation an urgent priority. Throughout 2026\, CED20 will bring together States\, victims\, civil society\, national human rights institutions\, UN entities and partners to raise awareness\, share concrete actions and strengthen protections. Enforced disappearance has frequently been used as a strategy to spread terror within the society. The feeling of insecurity generated by this practice is not limited to the close relatives of the disappeared\, but also affects their communities and society as a whole. Enforced disappearance has become a global problem and is not restricted to a specific region of the world. Once largely the product of military dictatorships\, enforced disappearances can nowadays be perpetrated in complex situations of internal conflict\, especially as a means of political repression of opponents. Of particular concern are: \n\nthe ongoing harassment of human rights defenders\, relatives of victims\, witnesses and legal counsel dealing with cases of enforced disappearance;\nthe use by States of counter-terrorist activities as an excuse for breaching their obligations;\nand the still widespread impunity for enforced disappearance.\n\nSpecial attention must also be paid to specific groups of especially vulnerable people\, like children and people with disabilities. Hundreds of thousands of people have vanished during conflicts or periods of repression in at least 85 countries around the world. \nLinks:\nDay of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

SUMMARY:Nederlands Journalistiek Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Tijdens het Nederlands Journalistiek Festival (NLJF) kunnen collega’s uit het hele land elkaar ontmoeten; van onderzoeksjournalisten tot podcastmakers\, van starters tot hoofdredacteuren en wetenschappers. \nHet NLJF is de jaarlijkse ontmoetingsplek voor iedereen die betrokken is bij journalistiek. Van redacties en freelancers tot publiek en maatschappelijke partners. Het festival is nadrukkelijk geen traditioneel congres\, maar een levendige werkplaats voor ontmoeting\, samenwerking en reflectie. Hier delen we ervaringen\, wisselen we kennis uit en onderzoeken we samen de rol van journalistiek in een snel veranderende samenleving. Het festival vindt plaats in Deventer\, de boekenstad met een rijke geschiedenis van debat en vernieuwende ideeën. Op verschillende locaties in de historische binnenstad praten we over de toekomst van het vak\, delen we ideeën\, twijfels en plannen. Met panels\, lezingen\, workshops\, live journalism-theater\, filmvertoningen en exposities is er voor elke journalist iets te halen.
