DESCRIPTION:The UN Human Rights Office published a report on arbitrary\, prolonged and incommunicado detention by Israeli authorities\, affecting thousands of Palestinians from 7 October 2023 until 30 June 2024. \nThe report also covers allegations of torture and other forms of cruel\, inhuman and degrading treatment\, including sexual abuse of women and men. Since 7 October\, thousands of Palestinians – including medical staff\, patients and residents fleeing the conflict\, as well as captured fighters – have been taken from Gaza to Israel\, usually shackled and blindfolded. Thousands more have been detained in the West Bank and Israel. They have generally been held in secret\, without being given a reason for their detention\, access to a lawyer or effective judicial review\, the report states. At least 53 Palestinian detainees are known to have died in Israeli military facilities and prisons since the horrific attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups against Israeli civilians on 7 October. \nThe staggering number of men\, women\, children\, doctors\, journalists and human rights defenders detained since 7 October\, most of them without charge or trial and held in deplorable conditions\, along with reports of ill-treatment and torture and violation of due process guarantees\, raises serious concerns regarding the arbitrariness and the fundamentally punitive nature of such arrests and detention\, said UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk. In Gaza\, mostly men and adolescent boys have been detained. Many have been taken into custody while sheltering in schools\, hospitals and residential buildings\, or at checkpoints during their displacement from north to south\, the report finds. The Israeli military does not usually explain publicly the basis for taking Palestinians into custody in Gaza\, although it has in some cases alleged affiliation with Palestinian armed groups or their political wings. Israel has also not provided information regarding the fate or whereabouts of many of those detained\, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been denied access to facilities where they are held. \nConditions in military-run detention facilities appear worse\, the report states\, adding children were among those held\, in some cases jointly with adults. Detainees said they were held in cage-like facilities\, stripped naked for prolonged periods\, wearing only diapers. Their testimonies told of prolonged blindfolding\, deprivation of food\, sleep and water\, and being subjected to electric shocks and being burnt with cigarettes. Some detainees said dogs were released on them\, and others said they were subjected to waterboarding\, or that their hands were tied and they were suspended from the ceiling. Some women and men also spoke of sexual and gender-based violence. Accounts of hostages taken by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups last October also described appalling conditions of captivity\, including lack of food\, water and poor sanitary conditions\, and lack of fresh air and sunlight. \nSome described being beaten while being taken into Gaza\, or seeing other hostages being beaten while in captivity; receiving surgery or stitches without anaesthetic. There were also reports of sexual and gender-based violence in captivity. In addition\, the report criticises the Palestinian Authority for continuing to carry out arbitrary detention and torture or other ill-treatment in the West Bank\, reportedly principally to suppress criticism and political opposition. The High Commissioner reiterated his call for the immediate release of all hostages still held in Gaza. All Palestinians arbitrarily detained by Israel must be released. UNODC\, as guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the Protocols thereto\, assists States in their efforts to implement the Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons (Trafficking in Persons Protocol). The Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment\, transportation\, transfer\, harbouring or receipt of persons\, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion\, of abduction\, of fraud\, of deception\, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person\, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include\, at a minimum\, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation\, forced labour or services\, slavery or practices similar to slavery\, servitude or the removal of organs. The World Day against Trafficking in Persons was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly\, in its resolution A/RES/68/192. DESCRIPTION:How reliable are the death tolls from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza? \nIt has been one of the enduring questions of the war\, with the MoH producing the widely used figure of more than 38\,000 Palestinians killed to date. Israeli officials have repeatedly disputed the civilian toll – highlighting the MoH’s Hamas connections and publicly claiming its numbers are false. US President Joe Biden also initially said he had “no confidence” in the death tolls. In response\, the ministry has periodically released lists of names and IDs of Palestinians killed. In the largest and most in-depth public analysis of the MoH data yet\, Airwars used open source monitoring to independently identify nearly 3\,000 full names of civilian victims killed in the first 17 days of the war. Every name is listed below\, linked to individual reports detailing where and how they died. Where possible the reports include personal stories of lives lost. By comparing those victims’ names with the first list produced by the MoH\, this investigation found a high correlation between the official MoH data and what Palestinian civilians reported online – with 75% of publicly reported names also appearing on the MoH list. The research only relates to the initial weeks of the war – and evidence suggests the MoH figures have become less accurate as Gaza’s health infrastructure has been decimated by the war. Dit blijkt vandaag uit het nieuwe Oxfam-rapport Water War Crimes: Sinds het begin van de oorlog op 7 oktober 2023 vernietigen Israëlische militaire aanvallen elke drie dagen vijf locaties van de water- en sanitaire infrastructuur in Gaza. Sinds 26 mei 2024 is de waterproductie in Gaza met 84% gedaald als gevolg van de vernietiging van de waterinfrastructuur en invoerbeperkingen voor brandstof\, elektriciteit en reserveonderdelen voor water en sanitaire voorzieningen in Gaza. De externe leveringen van het Israëlische nationale waterbedrijf Mekorot aan Gaza daalden met 78%. Operations S.p.A.)\, and separate investigation proceedings against some companies in Dior Group (Christian Dior Couture S.A.\, Christian Dior Italia S.r.l. e Manufactures Dior S.r.l.) for possible unlawful conducts in the promotion and sale of clothes’ items and accessories\, in violation of the provisions of the Consumer Code. In both cases\, the companies may have issued untrue statements about their ethics and social responsibility\, in particular with regard to working conditions and compliance with the law by their suppliers. Moreover\, the companies emphasised craftsmanship and quality. However\, in order to make certain articles and clothing accessories the companies allegedly used supplies from workshops and factories employing workers who would receive inadequate wages. The Authority is the organization through which States parties to the Convention organize and control activities in the seabed\, ocean floor\, and subsoil beyond the limits of national jurisdiction. At annual sessions of the ISA\, representatives from its member States meet to discuss and formulate the work of the Authority and its Secretariat. Negotiations are underway to develop rules\, regulations\, and procedures (RRPs) relating to commercial exploitation of mineral resources from the deep sea. DESCRIPTION:In 2014\, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day\, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship. \nSince then\, World Youth Skills Day events have provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people\, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions\, firms\, employers’ and workers’ organizations\, policy makers and development partners. Participants have highlighted the ever-increasing significance of skills as the world is embarking on a transition towards a sustainable model of development. Education and training are central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The vision of the Incheon Declaration: Education 2030 is fully captured by Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education 2030 devotes considerable attention to technical and vocational skills development\, specifically regarding access to affordable quality. \nTechnical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship; the elimination of gender disparity and ensuring access for the vulnerable. In this context\, TVET is expected to address the multiple demands of an economic\, social and environmental nature by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship\, promoting equitable\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth\, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability. \nTVET can equip youth with the skills required to access the world of work\, including skills for self-employment. TVET can also improve responsiveness to changing skill-demands by companies and communities\, increase productivity and increase wage levels. TVET can reduce access barriers to the world of work\, for example through work-based learning\, and ensuring that skills gained are recognised and certified. TVET can also offer skills development opportunities for low-skilled people who are under- or unemployed\, out of school youth and individuals not in education\, employment and training (NEETs). World Youth Skills Day 2021 will again take place in a challenging context due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. World Youth Skills Day 2021 will pay tribute to the resilience and creativity of youth through the crisis. DESCRIPTION:The mixed movement of refugees and migrants on the African continent is often reduced to its more\nmediatized aspect – the perilous crossings of the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. \nWhile some of the movements take root in North Africa\, many include multiple legs through several countries in an attempt to reach safety and/or better opportunities. The protection risks and extreme forms of violence and exploitation refugees and migrants are confronted with on land are much less documented. The International Organization for Migration (IOM)\, the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) decided to work together to map them out and have an updated and more precise understanding of where these risks and different forms of violence are perceived to be more acute and who are reported to be the perpetrators. To do so\, many different sources of information were employed including 4Mi interviews with over 31\,000 refugees and migrants between 2020 and 2023 by the MMC\, the Missing Migrants Project and Counter Trafficking Data Collaborative of IOM\, and UNHCR Protection Monitoring. \nThe first edition of this report issued in 2020 uncovered patterns of widespread human rights violations and abuses along the routes from East and Horn of Africa and West Africa to North Africa. It highlighted the gap between smugglers’ narratives and the dramatic realities people faced on these dangerous journeys\, where human life is just the mere subject of a commercial transaction. It provided clear data for States and their partners to enable them to design routes-based solutions and move services and prevention/response mechanisms to where protection problems occurred. Unfortunately\, three years later\, the findings of the first report are reconfirmed and in some places surpassed. As the data suggest\, the risks and the list of unimaginable horrors people face in some countries along the route have not disappeared\, on the contrary. New conflicts erupted in the Sahel\, bringing the displaced population to almost 5 million\, double from the time of the previous report. In the East and Horn of Africa\, droughts and floods generated by climate change are having a dramatic impact on new and protracted emergencies\, while the number of displaced people due to the conflict in the Sudan reached 8.8 million as of May 2024. \nThe deteriorating situation in many countries of origin and host countries is leading an increased number of individuals to embark on dangerous onward journeys towards the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea\, with many of them ending up in extremely vulnerable situations. While there are no comprehensive statistics on land arrivals across the many countries of transit and initial destination\, evidence points to an increased number of refugees and migrants moving to North Africa. In Tunisia for instance\, UNHCR registered 209 per cent more refugees and asylum-seekers in 2023 than it did in 2020. During this post-COVID period\, the presence of refugees and migrants in a number of countries was also politically instrumentalized\, leading to more visible expressions of racism\, generating protection incidents and fear among refugees and migrants and consequent onward dangerous movements\, including across the Mediterranean Sea. \nDespite some progress\, this second report “On this journey\, no one cares if you live or die’ Abuse\, protection and justice along routes between East and West Africa and Africa’s Mediterranean Coast: A route-based perspective on key risks” suggests a degraded protection environment along the Central Mediterranean routes with insufficient protection-centred responses. Unfortunately\, experience has taught us that increased risks will not prevent refugees and migrants from moving irregularly. The increased risks will continue to be downplayed by smugglers and traffickers\, and people will resort to what they think might be the most effective individual risk mitigation strategy. As a young Somali refugee named Saeed said: “They [the smugglers] lie to the youth. They have workers everywhere and make tahriib [the journey to Europe] look easy […]\, but you will wake up when you face the dangers.” \nSadly\, this second version of the report may not be the last documenting violations and abuses of human rights of refugees and migrants along these routes. Critical protection safety nets remain lacking in key areas as highlighted by the second iteration of a report mapping protection services along the routes that will be published in 2024. In addition\, many interlocutors have become accustomed to the prevalence of protection risks\, abuses and the inexorable erosion of hope\, as if nothing can be attempted to address them. A dangerous sense of resignation has paralysed States-led response along these routes despite the commitment to save lives and address vulnerabilities they have assumed under international law and other instruments\, such as the Global Compact on Refugees and the Global Compact for Safe\, Orderly and Regular Migration. \nAs data depend on access to refugees and migrants\, gaps exist for some locations\, especially for the Sahara Desert\, and may distort part of the analysis. However\, many ultimately move out from these out-of-reach places and tell their story. They include the tens of thousands of refugees and migrants who told their stories upon which this report is based. Accordingly\, we will no longer be able to say that we did not know about the extreme and unacceptable forms of violence they face. We hope\, and expect\, that this report will help to inform increased and concrete routes-based protection responses to reduce the suffering associated with the desperate journeys refugees and migrants undertake. We also hope it will generate a push to address the root causes of displacement and drivers of irregular migration through positive action on peace\, climate change\, governance\, inequality and social cohesion\, as well as the creation of safe migration pathways. We should never accept or get used to the horrors experienced by refugees and migrants nor leave unquestioned the significance of the grossly negative human rights indicators emerging from the countries where violations and abuses occur. DESCRIPTION:Waterschaarste wordt wereldwijd een steeds groter probleem\, de benadering van een internationaal team van onderzoekers focust op de kwaliteit van water eerder dan enkel de kwantiteit\, dat belooft een aanzienlijke vermindering van de waterschaarste in de toekomst. \n\nMeer dan de helft van de wereldbevolking leeft in gebieden waar water beperkt is of te vervuild om veilig te consumeren. De vraag is op die plekken vaak groter dan het aanbod\, en dat stelt de internationale gemeenschap voor uitdagingen en leidt tot economische risico’s in de sectoren die veel water nodig hebben zoals energie\, landbouw\, gewone gezinnen en de industrie. Het probleem van de watervervuiling – zoals bijvoorbeeld verhoogde stikstofniveaus – kan dan weer leiden tot ernstige gezondheidsproblemen. Het beheer van bestaande waterbronnen op een duurzame manier is daarom cruciaal en daar kan de digitale transformatie een verschil maken. Nieuwe technologieën zoals slimme irrigatie en sensoren op afstand maken monitoring en efficiënter watergebruik mogelijk. Maar er zijn nog steeds hiaten in de financiering voor zulke technologische hoogstandjes: volgens het World Economic Forum ontvangt de watersector minder dan 1 procent van de investeringen in klimaattechnologie. De uitdaging ligt in het effectief beperken van waterschaarste en het garanderen van voldoende water van goede kwaliteit om duurzame ontwikkeling mogelijk te maken volgens Taher Kahil\, leider van een onderzoeksgroep over waterveiligheid bij The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). Hun aanpak introduceert een nieuw model om de effecten van zaken zoals klimaatverandering en menselijke activiteiten op het land op een specifieke manier te benaderen. Hun onderzoek in Nature Communications benadrukt dat er tot nu toe te veel werd gekeken naar de waterkwantiteit in plaats van naar de kwaliteit. Ze keken voor hun onderzoek naar het bekken van de Parelrivier in China\, een gebied dat sterk onder druk staat door zowel waterschaarste als vervuiling. De resultaten laten zien dat de toekomstige waterschaarste in 2050 naar verwachting met een factor vier zal toenemen in de meeste delen van de Parelrivier\, in een scenario met hoge economische ontwikkeling en opwarming van de aarde. Als er maatregelen worden genomen voor een beter beheer van de waterkwaliteit\, kan dat de  toekomstige waterschaarste in het rivierbekken halveren. \nLinks:\nNiet meer\, maar schoner water nodig in strijd tegen waterschaarste

De persoon die het bezit is\, wordt slaaf genoemd\, naar het Balkanvolk (Slavische volkeren) dat na de oudheid eeuwenlang de belangrijkste leverancier was van slaven. Op 1 juli 1863\, dertig jaar na het voorbeeld van de Britten\, klonken 21 kanonschoten in Paramaribo en werden de slaven vrije mensen. Het zou nog 10 jaar (1873) duren voor de slavernij daadwerkelijk in de praktijk werd afgeschaft. De Nederlandse regering betaalde een schadevergoeding van 300 gulden per slaaf aan de eigenaars ter compensatie voor het verloren eigendom. Slavenhouders maakten vlak voor de afschaffing extra jacht op weglopers om zoveel mogelijk compensatiegeld op te strijken. Slavernij komt nog steeds op veel plekken in de wereld voor\, hoewel het vrijwel overal illegaal is. DESCRIPTION:De Stonewall-rellen (Stonewall riots) vonden eind juni 1969 plaats in de wijk Greenwich Village in New York bij de ontruiming van de homobar Stonewall Inn door de Metropolitan Police. \nNa jaren van treiterijen en geweldplegingen door de politie besloot het bezoekende publiek van mensen binnen de lgbt-gemeenschap terug te vechten. Deze opstand vormt een scheidslijn in de geschiedenis van de holebi-beweging\, daar nooit eerder homo’s en travestieten in zulke grote aantallen hardhandig weerstand boden tegen de op hun gemeenschap gerichte vernederingen door de politie. De optochten die ter herdenking van deze rellen gehouden werden kregen als Gay Pride Parades wereldwijd navolging en in de VS werd juni de Pride-maand. DESCRIPTION:Het is voor Palestijnse vluchtelingen moeilijk om een veilige toekomst op te bouwen; in Gaza\, in landen in de regio én in Nederland. \nIn het rapport Uitgesloten van VluchtelingenWerk wordt ingegaan op de muren waar zij tegenaan lopen in de Nederlandse asielprocedure en draagt VluchtelingenWerk oplossingen aan. De asielprocedure voor Palestijnen in Nederland is onnodig ingewikkeld gemaakt. Dat komt door internationale\, maar ook nationale keuzes. Met de wijziging van het landenbeleid wordt het Vluchtelingenverdrag beter toegepast en wordt erkend dat de situatie in Gaza zo onveilig is dat alle Palestijnen die daar vandaan komen bescherming nodig hebben. Maar er zitten meer knelpunten in het beleid\, zoals: \n1. Onvoldoende oog voor vervolging Palestijnen\nPalestijnen uit Gaza en de Westelijke Jordaanoever zijn nog altijd niet aangemerkt als bijzondere groep in het landenbeleid. Nederland heeft daarmee nog altijd onvoldoende oog voor de daadwerkelijke vervolging van Palestijnen door de Israëlische autoriteiten. Uit de landeninformatie blijkt echter dat de grote willekeur in de behandeling\, de zware beperkingen in de bewegingsvrijheid en de slechte mensenrechtensituatie daar specifiek van toepassing zijn op Palestijnen. Discriminerende maatregelen tegen de Palestijnen\, zoals bijvoorbeeld de inbeslagname van land of de ontzegging van toegang tot voorzieningen\, kunnen tot vervolging in de zin van het Vluchtelingenverdrag leiden als deze ernstig van aard zijn. \nOplossing: benoem Palestijnen uit Gaza en de Westbank als risicoprofiel. Hiermee wordt recht gedaan aan de zeer kwetsbare positie van Palestijnen in alle bezette Palestijnse gebieden. \n2. Een bureaucratische impasse\nNederland erkent de Palestijnse staat niet en daarmee ook de Palestijnse nationaliteit niet. Zonder erkende nationaliteit is het zeer moeilijk om in aanmerking te komen voor asiel. Hun asielaanvraag wordt getoetst aan een land waar zij hebben verbleven\, maar niet dezelfde rechten hebben als daadwerkelijke onderdanen. Terwijl zij in veel landen door hun kwetsbare positie geen bescherming kunnen krijgen van de lokale autoriteiten\, kan hun asielaanvraag toch worden afgewezen op basis van de algemene veiligheidssituatie. \nOplossing: Houd bij de beoordeling van Palestijnse asielaanvragen expliciet rekening met de kwetsbare positie als niet-onderdaan in het land waar zij hebben verbleven. \n3. Terugsturen naar dichte grenzen\nBij de beoordeling van Palestijnse asielaanvragen wordt niet gekeken naar het verblijfsrecht in het land waar zij hebben verbleven en weegt ook de vraag of het mogelijk is om terug te keren niet mee. Afgewezen Palestijnen terugsturen naar landen waar zij geen verblijfsrecht hebben is zo goed als onmogelijk. Hierdoor komen zij vaak in slopende\, uitzichtloze procedures terecht. \nOplossing: Weeg problemen met toegang en toelating tot een land mee in de beoordeling van Palestijnse asielaanvragen. \nLinks:\nNieuw beleid Palestijnse gebieden: grote stap vooruit\, maar er is meer nodig

DESCRIPTION:Torture seeks to annihilate the victim’s personality and denies the inherent dignity of the human being.\n\nDespite the absolute prohibition of torture under international law\, torture persist in all regions of the world. Concerns about protecting national security and borders are increasingly used to allow torture and other forms of cruel\, degrading and inhuman treatment. Its pervasive consequences often go beyond the isolated act on an individual; and can be transmitted through generations and lead to cycles of violence. The United Nations has condemned torture from the outset as one of the vilest acts perpetrated by human beings on their fellow human beings. Torture is a crime under international law. According to all relevant instruments\, it is absolutely prohibited and cannot be justified under any circumstances. This prohibition forms part of customary international law\, which means that it is binding on every member of the international community\, regardless of whether a State has ratified international treaties in which torture is expressly prohibited. The systematic or widespread practice of torture constitutes a crime against humanity. DESCRIPTION:Het ASKV/Steunpunt Vluchtelingen bestaat dit jaar 35 jaar\, en dat laat men niet zomaar voorbijgaan. \nOp Wereldvluchtelingendag\, 20 juni 2024\, organiseert ASKV daarom het jubilieumevent ’35 jaar ongedocumenteerd in Nederland’. Een moment om samen stil te staan bij het 35-jarig bestaan en vooruit te kijken. Het ASKV strijdt al 35 jaar voor de structurele verbetering van de positie van mensen zonder verblijfsvergunning. Met juridische en maatschappelijke hulpverlening en door actie te voeren voor een menswaardig asiel- en migratiebeleid zetten we onze missie elke dag voort. En zolang dit nodig is\, blijven we ons hard maken voor deze groep mensen. Tijdens het jubileumevent wordt terug geblikt met (oud-)medewerkers en (oud-)cliënten op 35 jaar ASKV. Bespreken wordt welke ontwikkelingen een grote rol hebben gespeeld in het werk van het ASKV\, mijlpalen en successen. Met een panel van beleidsmakers kijken we vooruit: Welke lessen kunnen er worden getrokken uit het verleden? Wat zouden we nu anders of juist hetzelfde doen? En wat betekent dit voor wat we gaan en kunnen doen in de toekomst? De huidige politieke ontwikkelingen brengen veel onzekerheid met zich mee. Daarom is het belangrijk om het met elkaar te hebben over wat ons te wachten staat en waar we wél invloed op hebben. Aan het einde van de avond is er gelegenheid om elkaar te ontmoeten en het glas te heffen. DESCRIPTION:Elk jaar schrijft het College voor de Rechten van de Mens (het College) een rapportage over mensenrechten in Nederland. \nDe jaarlijkse rapportage 2023 gaat over het recht op een schoon\, gezond en duurzaam leefmilieu\, zowel op Europees als Caribisch Nederland (Bonaire\, St. Eustatius en Saba). In dit rapport wordt uitgewerkt welke verplichtingen de overheid heeft op basis van internationale\, Europese en nationale mensenrechten-verdragen\, regelgeving en jurisprudentie. Daarbij geeft het College handvatten mee voor beleidsmakers en volksvertegenwoordigers om uitvoering te geven aan deze verplichtingen. In 2024 publiceert het College deelrapporten: een juridisch kader\, een analyse op klimaat en leefmilieu\, een analyse op bestaanszekerheid en leefmilieu\, en tot slot\, een totaalrapportage. SUMMARY:Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 2024
DESCRIPTION:The term “conflict-related sexual violence” refers to rape\, sexual slavery\, forced prostitution\, forced pregnancy\, forced abortion\, enforced sterilization\, forced marriage and any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity perpetrated against women\, men\, girls or boys that is directly or indirectly linked to a conflict. \nThe term also encompasses trafficking in persons when committed in situations of conflict for the purpose of sexual violence or exploitation. A consistent concern is that fear and cultural stigma converge to prevent the vast majority of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence from coming forward to report such violence. Practitioners in the field estimate that for each rape reported in connection with a conflict\, 10 to 20 cases go undocumented. On 19 June 2015\, the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/69/293) proclaimed 19 June of each year the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict\, in order to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence\, to honour the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and to pay tribute to all those who have courageously devoted their lives to and lost their lives in standing up for the eradication of these crimes. The date was chosen to commemorate the adoption on 19 June 2008 of Security Council resolution 1820 (2008)\, in which the Council condemned sexual violence as a tactic of war and an impediment to peacebuilding. In response to the rise in violent extremism\, the Security Council adopted resolution S/RES/2331 (2016)\, the first to address the nexus between trafficking\, sexual violence\, terrorism and transnational organized crime. SUMMARY:#NVDV24 Nacht van de Vluchteling 2024
DESCRIPTION:In het weekend van 15-16 juni 2024 organiseert Stichting Vluchteling de vijftiende editie van de Nacht van de Vluchteling\, wandelen om aandacht te vragen voor de actuele\, maar ook de vergeten humanitaire crises in de wereld en geld op te halen voor noodhulp ter plekke aan mensen op de vlucht. \nDe Nacht van de Vluchteling is een wandeltocht vol bewustwording en uitdagende kilometers met een bijzondere sfeer van saamhorigheid onder de duizenden deelnemers en vrijwilligers. Je kan je individueel inschrijven\, maar ook samen met je familie\, vrienden\, bedrijf of school een team starten. Onder de deelnemers zijn er ook mensen met een eigen vluchtverhaal en organisaties die zich dagelijks inzetten voor dit thema. Dit zorgt onderweg voor mooie ontmoetingen en gesprekken. Stichting Vluchteling organiseert sinds 2010 de Nacht van de Vluchteling om humanitaire crises in de wereld onder de aandacht te brengen. Door middel van dit evenement laten we zien solidair te zijn met mensen op de vlucht en halen we samen zoveel mogelijk geld op. SUMMARY:#EndChildLabour World Day Against Child Labour / Wereld Dag tegen Kinderarbeid 2024
DESCRIPTION:The World Day Against Child Labour \, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2024 Theme: Let’s act on our commitments: End Child Labour! This year’s World Day will focus on celebrating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention (1999\, No. 182). It also presents an opportunity to remind all stakeholders to improve their implementation of the two fundamental Conventions on child labour – Convention No. 182 and Convention No. 138 concerning the Minimum Age for Admission to Employment or Work (1973). Although significant strides have been taken in reducing child labour over time\, recent years have seen global trends reverse\, underscoring the pressing need to unite efforts in expediting actions to eradicate child labour in all its manifestations. With the adoption of Sustainable Development Goal Target 8.7\, the international community made a commitment to the elimination of child labour in all its forms by 2025. Now is the time to make the elimination of child labour a reality! This World Day Against Child Labour\, June 12\, 2024\, we are calling for: \n\nThe effective implementation of the ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour;\nReinvigorated national\, regional and international action to end child labour in all of its forms\, including worst forms\, through adopting national policies and addressing root causes as called upon in the 2022 Durban Call to Action;\nUniversal ratification and effective implementation of ILO Convention  No. 138 on the Minimum Age\, which\, together with the universal ratification of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour achieved in 2020\, would provide all children with legal protection against all forms of child labour.\n\nLinks:\nWorld Day Against Child Labour 12 June\n\nILO

DESCRIPTION:The first-ever Day of Play\, to be observed on 11 June 2024\, marks a significant milestone in efforts to preserve\, promote\, and prioritize playing so that all people\, especially children\, can reap the rewards and thrive to their full potential. \nBeyond mere recreation\, it is a universal language spoken by people of all ages\, transcending national\, cultural\, and socio-economic boundaries. This shared passion fosters a sense of community and national pride. It also fosters resilience\, creativity\, and innovation in individuals. For children in particular\, play helps build relationships and improves control\, overcome trauma\, and problem-solving. It helps children develop the cognitive\, physical\, creative\, social\, and emotional skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Restricting opportunities for play directly impedes a child’s well-being and development. In educational settings\, play-based learning has been recognized as an effective approach to engage students actively in the learning process. It helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant\, thereby enhancing motivation and retention of information. Moreover\, play is considered to have a positive impact on promoting tolerance\, resilience\, and facilitating social inclusion\, conflict prevention\, and peacebuilding. In recognition of this\, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has enshrined play as a fundamental right of every child under Article 31. The international day creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. \nChildren learn best through play. Play creates powerful learning opportunities across all areas of development – intellectual\, social\, emotional and physical. Through play\, children learn to forge connections with others\, build a wide range of leadership skills\, develop resilience\, navigate relationships and social challenges as well as conquer their fears. When children play\, they feel safe. Children play to make sense of the world around them. More generally\, play provides a platform for children to express and develop imagination and creativity\, which are key skills critical for the technology-driven and innovative world we live in. Playful interactions contribute to the well-being and positive mental health of parents\, caregivers and children. When humanitarian crises turn a child’s world upside down\, it is in play that children can both find safety and respite from adverse experience while also being able to explore and process their experiences with the world. When children are driven from their homes by war\, conflict\, and displacement\, access to nurturing relationships with parents/caregivers and peers are critical buffers from the effects of violence\, distress and other adverse experiences. SUMMARY:Mikael en Gohar blijven hier! - petitie
DESCRIPTION:Mikael is en voelt zich 100% Nederlander en is een spontane lieve en intelligente jongen vol ambitie en levenslust en is een Amsterdammer die 11 jaar geleden in Nederland geboren is\, hij zit in groep acht en is voor volgend jaar toegelaten tot een gymnasium. \nMaar helaas woont hij nog steeds met zijn Armeense moeder Gohar in een asielzoekerscentrum (hun 5de adres tot nu toe) en hebben zij nog steeds geen verblijfsvergunning. Meer dan vijf jaar geleden deed hij met zijn moeder een aanvraag op grond van de Afsluiting Definitieve Regeling langdurig verblijvende kinderen (ook wel bekend als het Kinderpardon). In 2021 oordeelde de rechter dat de IND de aanvraag van Mikael en zijn moeder niet had mogen afwijzen\, omdat er ten onrechte niet op dezelfde manier was beoordeeld als in vergelijkbare zaken van een paar jaar geleden. Maar de IND blijft zich tot op heden verzetten tegen een verblijfsvergunning voor Mikael\, net als tegen een verblijfsvergunning voor een klein aantal lotgenoten. In plaats daarvan is de IND tegen de uitspraak in hoger beroep gegaan bij de Raad van State waar de zaak nu al meer dan tweeënhalf jaar (!) ligt. Deze ene procedure en zijn onzekerheid hierover duren nu al meer dan vijf jaar. Voor Mikael voelt dit als een eeuwigheid. Het mag niet gebeuren dat Mikael straks met zijn moeder naar Armenië wordt uitgezet\, een land waar hij nota bene nog nooit is geweest. DeGoedeZaak wil dat: \n\nDe overheid werk maakt van een humaan asielbeleid\, waarbij gekeken wordt naar mensen en niet alleen naar de regels;\nMikael en alle andere kinderen in een soortgelijke situatie een verblijfsvergunning krijgen;\nMikael en zijn moeder Gohar na 11 jaar strijd en onzekerheid eindelijk rust krijgen.\n\n \n\nDe Afdeling bestuursrechtspraak van de Raad van State oordeelt in een uitspraak van 31 juli 2024 dat de minister van Asiel en Migratie de elfjarige Mikael en zijn moeder geen verblijfsvergunning hoefde te verlenen. Mikael en zijn moeder zijn een te lange periode uit beeld geweest bij de vreemdelingrechtelijke instanties en zijn niet beschikbaar geweest voor vertrek naar Armenië na beëindiging van de verblijfsprocedure in Nederland. De moeder van Mikael is in 2010 vanuit Armenië naar Nederland gekomen. De asielaanvraag van de moeder is destijds afgewezen. Zij is daarna in Nederland gebleven en is niet teruggekeerd naar Armenië. Mikael is in Nederland geboren. Net als zijn moeder heeft Mikael de Armeense nationaliteit. Omdat Mikael in Nederland is geboren en zijn hele leven in Nederland heeft gewoond\, wil hij in Nederland blijven.
