DESCRIPTION:The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan (“the Mission”) assesses that the mass killings and related atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces in and around El-Fasher\, during its takeover of the city on or around 26 and 27 October 2025\, are indicators of a genocidal path. \nThese crimes followed an 18-month siege during which the Rapid Support Forces deliberately imposed conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of non-Arab communities\, in particular the Zaghawa and the Fur. The Mission documented an escalating pattern that demonstrates coordination\, targeting and repetition of identity-based targeting linked to ethnicity\, gender\, and perceived political affiliation\, resulting in mass killings\, serious bodily and mental harm\, widespread rape and other forms of sexual violence\, arbitrary detention\, torture and cruel treatment\, and enforced disappearances\, accompanied by dehumanising and exterminatory rhetoric. This cumulative factual matrix reveals the intent of the Rapid Support Forces to destroy the Zaghawa and Fur communities in whole or in part. The conduct in El-Fasher is an aggravation of earlier patterns of mirror attacks against other non-Arab communities elsewhere in Sudan\, but on a far more lethal scale. Accountability of perpetrators\, including those who facilitate\, aid or abet these crimes\, remains imperative. DESCRIPTION:World Day of Social Justice (Social Justice Equality Day) is an international day recognizing the need to promote social justice\, which includes efforts to tackle issues such as poverty\, exclusion\, gender inequality\, unemployment\, human rights\, and social protections. \nMany organizations\, including the UN\, American Library Association (ALA)\, and the International Labour Organization (ILO)\, make statements on the importance of social and present plans for greater social justice by tackling poverty\, social and economic exclusion and unemployment. The United Nations General Assembly has decided to observe 20 February annually\, approved on 26 November 2007 and starting in 2009\, as the World Day of Social Justice. The Declaration focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all through employment\, social protection\, social dialogue\, and fundamental principles and rights. Ideal topics for teaching students about the need for social justice include (but are not limited to) childhood poverty\, global citizenship\, human rights\, and sustainable development. A series of lessons are available by country with the United Nations and other programs. Oxfam’s food for thought power point which shows students the global food system that then has the opportunity for students to share their thoughts and experiences. The lesson plans and collections available are for students of all ages. \nThe ILO unanimously adopted the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization on 10 June 2008. This is the third major statement of principles and policies adopted by the International Labour Conference since the ILO’s Constitution of 1919. It builds on the Philadelphia Declaration of 1944 and the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of 1998. The 2008 Declaration expresses the contemporary vision of the ILO’s mandate in the era of globalization. This landmark Declaration is a powerful reaffirmation of ILO values. It is the outcome of tripartite consultations that started in the wake of the Report of the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization. By adopting this text\, the representatives of governments\, employers’ and workers’ organizations from 182 member States emphasize the key role of our tripartite Organization in helping to achieve progress and social justice in the context of globalization. Together\, they commit to enhance the ILO’s capacity to advance these goals\, through the Decent Work Agenda. DESCRIPTION:The report ‘Pushbacks Report 2025‘ documents pushbacks from EU Member States to third countries in 2025\, highlighting ongoing violations of international and EU law. \nIt draws from NGO reports\, research groups\, human rights organizations\, UN agencies\, government services and interviews with organizations active in Hungary\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Greece\, Poland\, Croatia\, Bulgaria and Romania. In total\, 80\,865 pushbacks were recorded. Overall\, the normalization of pushbacks persists\, requiring stronger enforcement and greater accountability from both Member States and EU institutions. At the same time\, 2025 has witnessed a trend towards externalization of border management. The EU finances third countries to prevent people seeking protection to reach EU borders\, resulting in offshoring human rights violations. The result is an increase in pullbacks and a decrease in pushbacks on certain routes. In 2025\, the Libyan coast guard\, financially and logistically supported by the EU\, prevented 27\,116 people from reaching EU borders. Poland pushed back 14\,754 asylum seekers\, followed by Bulgaria whose authorities have executed 13\,568 pushbacks. DESCRIPTION:At a time when armed conflict has reached historic levels around the world\, journalist killings also reached an all-time high primarily due to the actions of one government: Israel was responsible for two-thirds of all journalist and media worker killings in 2025\, driving the total number killed worldwide last year to a record 129 — the highest ever number documented by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) since the organization started keeping records more than three decades ago.\, according to the report ‘Record 129 press members killed in 2025; Israel responsible for 2/3 of deaths‘. \nThis marks back-to-back record years for press fatalities due to Israel’s continued and unprecedented targeting of journalists and media workers. More than 60% of the 86 members of the press killed by Israeli fire in 2025 were Palestinians reporting from Gaza\, where human rights groups and U.N. experts agree a genocide is taking place. Over three-quarters of all press deaths in 2025 were in conflict settings. While the number of journalists and media workers killed in Ukraine and Sudan increased slightly in 2025 compared to the previous year\, to four and nine deaths in each country respectively\, the numbers were still very low compared to Israel\, which remains a significant exception. The rising number of journalist deaths globally is fueled by a persistent culture of impunity for attacks on the press: Very few transparent investigations have been conducted into the 47 cases* of targeted killings (classified as “Murder” in CPJ’s longstanding methodology) documented by CPJ in 2025 — the highest number of journalists deliberately killed for their work in the past decade — and no one has been held accountable in any of the cases. These killings of journalists violate international humanitarian law\, which stipulates that journalists are civilians and should never be deliberately targeted. \nThe continued failure of government leaders to protect the press or hold their attackers to account also lays the groundwork for more killings\, including in countries not at war. Journalists were killed in Mexico\, India\, and the Philippines in 2025\, all countries that have persistently failed to secure justice for journalists’ murders. CPJ has called for radical reform of the ways governments investigate journalist killings in order to bring perpetrators to justice\, including establishing an international investigative task force and imposing targeted sanctions. The uptick in journalist killings is symptomatic of a wider decline in press freedom and journalist safety globally: A near-record number of journalists were jailed in 2025 amid smear campaigns and legal abuse that sought to criminalize the act of reporting the facts. Online harassment and physical attacks against journalists continued to rise amid increasingly hostile rhetoric towards reporters and media organizations\, even in supposedly democratic countries. \nLinks:\nRecord 129 press members killed in 2025; Israel responsible for 2/3 of deaths \nAt the rate journalists are being killed in Gaza by the Israeli army\, there will soon be no one left to keep you informed – RSF and Avaaz launch international media operation

DESCRIPTION:Zero Discrimination Day is an annual day celebrated by the United Nations (UN) and other international organisations\, the day aims to promote equality before the law and in practice throughout all of the member countries of the UN. \nThe day was first celebrated on March 1\, 2014\, and was launched by UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé on 27 February of that year with a major event in Beijing. In February 2017\, UNAIDS called on people to “make some noise around zero discrimination\, to speak up and prevent discrimination from standing in the way of achieving ambitions\, goals and dreams.” The day is particularly noted by organisations like UNAIDS that combat discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS. “HIV related stigma and discrimination is pervasive and exists in almost every part of the world including our Liberia”\, according to Dr. Ivan F. Camanor\, Chairman of the National AIDS Commission of Liberia. The UN Development Programme also paid tribute in 2017 to LGBTI people with HIV/AIDS who face discrimination. Campaigners in India have used this day to speak out against laws making discrimination against the LGBTI community more likely\, especially during the previous campaign to repeal the law (Indian Penal Code\, s377) that used to criminalise homosexuality in that country\, before that law was overturned by the Indian Supreme Court in September 2018. In 2015\, Armenian Americans in California held a ‘die-in’ on Zero Discrimination Day to remember the victims of the Armenian Genocide. \nIn 2026 is the theme ‘People first‘. \nLinks:\nZero Discrimination Day

Ook gebruikten zij kettingen om de schoolhekken af te sluiten. Bij iedere school lieten ze een boodschap achter: “Het is 2026\, klimaatdoelen worden niet gehaald en in de kerndoelen voor het onderwijs komt de urgentie van de klimaat- en ecologische crisis niet naar voren. We stevenen af op een catastrofe. Nederland\, kom in opstand! Geef onze tieners een reden om naar school te gaan!” Volgens Unicef misten in 2024 tenminste 242 miljoen kinderen in 85 landen onderwijs door hittegolven\, stormen\, overstromingen en droogtes veroorzaakt door de klimaatcrisis. De Wereldbank kwam\, ook in 2024\, tot vergelijkbare conclusies. Zuid-Azië werd het zwaarst getroffen: 128 miljoen kinderen kregen te maken met schoolstoringen. In Europa ging het om ongeveer een miljoen kinderen. Naast deze verstoringen zijn er miljoenen kinderen die helemaal geen onderwijs krijgen. DESCRIPTION:Op 2 april 2026 heeft het Nationaal Contactpunt voor de OESO-richtlijnen (NCP) de initiële beoordeling gepubliceerd in de melding van de Asamblea Campesina\, PAX en SOMO tegen het Zweedse energiebedrijf Vattenfall inzake een vermeende schending van de OESO-richtlijnen. \nDe beslissing opent een weg voor slachtoffers van ‘bloedkolen’ om in dialoog te treden en genoegdoening te vragen voor ernstige mensenrechtenschendingen. De klacht gaat over de gedwongen verdrijving van meer dan 59.000 mensen uit landbouwgemeenschappen in Cesar\, in het noorden van Colombia. Families zijn vermoord\, bedreigd en van hun land verdreven door paramilitair geweld\, en een groot deel van dat land wordt nu gebruikt voor kolenmijnbouw. Kolen uit deze regio zijn jarenlang naar Europa geëxporteerd\, onder andere naar Vattenfall\, waardoor Europees energieverbruik en aanhoudende mensenrechtenschendingen verbonden zijn met elkaar. De Asamblea Campesina del Cesar por la Restitución de Tierras y el Buen Vivir (Asamblea Campesina)\, diende in april 2023 de klacht in\, samen met PAX en SOMO. DESCRIPTION:Op de Dag van de Roma worden de rijke culturele erfenis en tradities van de Roma en hun bijdragen aan Europa en de Verenigde Staten erkend. \nDe datum 8 april werd uitgeroepen tot de internationale Romadag omdat het eerste Internationaal Romani Congres\, een serie van congressen voor discussie onder Roma wereldwijd\, werd gehouden op 8 april 1971 in Londen. Aan dit congres namen 23 vertegenwoordigers uit 9 landen deel: Tsjecho-Slowakije\, Finland\, Frankrijk\, Groot-Brittannië\, Hongarije\, Ierland\, Spanje en Joegoslavië. Tijdens het eerste congres werd de in 1933 ontworpen vlag van de Roma officieel erkend en werd het lied Djelem\, djelem uitgeroepen tot volkslied van de Roma. Het is een dag waarop aandacht wordt gegeven aan hun leefsituatie. Roma zijn de meest achtergestelde etnische groep van Europa. In heel Europa worden de fundamentele rechten van de Roma nog steeds regelmatig geschonden. Herhaaldelijke gevallen van racistisch geweld en haatzaaierij tegen Roma worden regelmatig gemeld. Roma worden ook gediscrimineerd bij toegang tot werk\, onderwijs\, gezondheidszorg en openbare en sociale diensten. Het meest alarmerende zijn de schendingen van de huisvestingsrechten van de Roma in Europa. De schendingen beperken zich niet alleen tot geen toegang hebben tot huisvesting. Het gaat ook over gedwongen uitzetting en systemische vernietiging van Romeinse nederzettingen. Feit blijft dat het recht op behoorlijke huisvesting ook een fundamenteel mensenrecht is. In Nederland wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen Sinti en Roma\, het verschil heeft te maken met datum van vestiging. Met Roma wordt bedoeld de groep mensen die voornamelijk uit Oost-Europa komen en zich in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw in Nederland vestigden. Met Sinti bedoelen we de mensen die uit Frankrijk en Duitsland komen en die zich tussen 1900 en 1920 hier hebben gevestigd. \nLinks:\nInternationaal Romani Congres

DESCRIPTION:(Vrijwilligers)werk en een nuttige bijdrage leveren aan de maatschappij is goed en gezond; maar soms lukt het\, ondanks alle wil van de wereld\, niet meer om voldoende mee te draaien in de maatschappij. \nDe overheid wil flink bezuinigen op arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkeringen. Deze uitkeringen zullen met 20% worden verlaagd. Ook degenen die nu al arbeidsongeschikt zijn. En ook de groep arbeidsongeschikten die zo ernstig ziek is dat zij nooit meer kúnnen en zúllen werken. Zij behoren tot de mensen met een IVA uitkering (volledig en duurzaam arbeidsongeschikt). Mensen die te horen hebben gekregen nooit meer beter te zullen worden: uitgezaaide kanker\, verslechterende spier-of zenuwaandoeningen zoals ALS\, Parkinson of een volledige verlamming. Het verzoek luidt: op humanitaire gronden voorkomen dat de meest kwetsbaren (IVA) inkomen verliezen en in financiële problemen komen. Het ‘omzien naar elkaar’ en ‘bestaanszekerheid’ dreigt in het gedrang te komen. Mensen komen flink in de financiële problemen\, direct leidend tot verlies van hun (soms aangepaste) woning\, sociale- en/of mantelzorg netwerk. Deze plannen zullen zonder uitzondering een forse aanslag vormen op hun toch al verminderde kwaliteit van leven. Dit alles bovenop het feit dat leven met beperkingen ten gevolge van ernstige ziekte al genoeg uitdagingen\, problemen en zorgen oplevert. Bovendien is zelfs een ‘hoge’ arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering geen riant inkomen meer. Vanwege nadelige belastingen (verlies van recht op kortingen en toeslagen) is het inkomen veelal net voldoende voor de basisbehoeften. De voorgenomen bezuinigingen zet mensen letterlijk op straat! Mensen met een IVA-uitkering is al heel veel afgenomen: gezondheid\, baan\, sociale contacten. Bezuinigen op het inkomen van zieken die écht nooit meer kunnen werken\, is moreel onjuist. Daarnaast werd de verlaging van deze uitkeringen met 20% op deze manier in geen enkel verkiezingsprogramma genoemd; enkel een ‘activerender stelsel’. Ook hadden de mensen met een huidige IVA-uitkering deze bezuinigingen op geen enkele manier kunnen voorzien. (Extra) verzekeren tegen arbeidsongeschiktheid kan niet meer als iemand al eenmaal ziek en/of arbeidsongeschikt is. DESCRIPTION:In opposition to the ban by the UK government on Palestine Action\, almost 3\,000 people have been arrested for holding signs as part of the Lift The Ban campaign\, leading to a 660% rise in UK “terrorism” arrests in the year to end of September 2025. \nOn February 13th 2026\, the High Court ruled that the proscription is unlawful on two grounds. Nobody was arrested that day despite around 150 people holding the same signs that had previously led to arrests. The Divisional Court has now granted the government permission to appeal the Judicial Review ruling. It has also decided to “stay” the quashing of the proscription pending this appeal – meaning the proscription of Palestine Action remains in place for now.
