DESCRIPTION:Human trafficking is a crime that exploits children\, men and women for numerous purposes including forced labour and sex. \nTrafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year\, thousands of men\, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers\, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking\, whether as a country of origin\, transit or destination for victims. UNODC\, as guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the Protocols thereto\, assists States in their efforts to implement the Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons (Trafficking in Persons Protocol). The Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment\, transportation\, transfer\, harbouring or receipt of persons\, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion\, of abduction\, of fraud\, of deception\, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person\, for the purpose of exploitation. Tijdens de wake zullen onafgebroken de namen van de vermoorde Palestijnen hardop voorlezen. De wake is een directe reactie op de aanhoudende weigering van de Nederlandse regering om op te treden tegen de genocide in Gaza. DESCRIPTION:On 22 and 23 July 2025\, the High Court of Justice in London will hear the Wikimedia Foundation’s legal challenge to the Categorisation Regulations of the United Kingdom (UK)’s Online Safety Act (OSA).  \nThe Wikimedia Foundation\, the non-profit that operates Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects\, announced its legal challenge earlier this year\, arguing that the regulations endanger Wikipedia and the global community of volunteer contributors who create the information on the site. DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 15 July 2025\, European Union (EU) foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels to decide whether to impose sanctions on Israel. \nThis is a crucial moment for the EU to draw a red line and stop pumping billions of euros into Israel’s economy\, fuelling genocide and occupation. SOMO’s analysis of trade and foreign investment into and from Israel reveals how deeply intertwined the European and Israeli economies are. Based on this analysis\, SOMO calls for the immediate suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement\, along with a full arms embargo\, extensive economic sanctions and corporate accountability. The EU is the largest investor in Israel worldwide\, nearly twice as big as the United States (US). According to the most recent IMF data on foreign investment\, EU member states held €72.1 billion in foreign investment in Israel in 2023\, compared to €39.2 billion for the US. Israel itself has invested €65.9 billion in the EU\, seven times as much as in the US (€8.8 billion). That makes the EU the main destination for Israeli investment. Despite Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and its unlawful occupation across the Occupied Palestinian Territory\, the EU increased exports to Israel by €1 billion\, standing at €25.5 billion in 2023 and €26.7 billion in 2024. The EU is Israel’s largest trading partner\, and its total trade with Israel in 2024\, including imports and exports\, amounted to €42.6 billion. This is significantly more than the US\, whose trade with Israel totalled €31.6 billion in the same year. Of all EU member states\, the Netherlands is by far the largest investor in Israel and is responsible for two-thirds of EU investment in Israel. In fact\, no other country worldwide has more investments in Israel. With €50 billion in investment held by Dutch companies in 2023\, the Netherlands even tops the US. DESCRIPTION:In 2014\, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day\, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship. \nSince then\, World Youth Skills Day events have provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people\, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions\, firms\, employers’ and workers’ organizations\, policy makers and development partners. Participants have highlighted the ever-increasing significance of skills as the world is embarking on a transition towards a sustainable model of development. Education and training are central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The vision of the Incheon Declaration: Education 2030 is fully captured by Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education 2030 devotes considerable attention to technical and vocational skills development\, specifically regarding access to affordable quality. \nTechnical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship; the elimination of gender disparity and ensuring access for the vulnerable. In this context\, TVET is expected to address the multiple demands of an economic\, social and environmental nature by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship\, promoting equitable\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth\, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability. \nTVET can equip youth with the skills required to access the world of work\, including skills for self-employment. TVET can also improve responsiveness to changing skill-demands by companies and communities\, increase productivity and increase wage levels. TVET can reduce access barriers to the world of work\, for example through work-based learning\, and ensuring that skills gained are recognised and certified. TVET can also offer skills development opportunities for low-skilled people who are under- or unemployed\, out of school youth and individuals not in education\, employment and training (NEETs). World Youth Skills Day 2021 will again take place in a challenging context due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. World Youth Skills Day 2021 will pay tribute to the resilience and creativity of youth through the crisis. DESCRIPTION:Op 25 juni 2025 werd de vreedzame A12-blokkade van Extinction Rebellion (XR) met geweld tegengehouden\, daarom organiseert XR een mars in solidariteit met slachtoffers van politiegeweld tijdens vreedzame demonstraties. \nOp 25 juni 2025 wilde XR de A12 blokkeren ter hoogte van de Utrechtsebaan. Die demonstratie was volledig vreedzaam\, maar werd met veel geweld tegengehouden en neergeslagen door politie. Door het gewelddadige optreden van de politie zijn van twee rebellen hun arm gebroken\, en van één rebel diens hand. Vele anderen kregen stokslagen\, neusklemmen\, en polsklemmen. Ook als ze zich niet verzetten en geen gevaar vormden of nog voordat ze de A12 überhaupt betreden hadden. Zondag 6 juli om 13:00 organiseert XR daarom een protestmars in solidariteit met slachtoffers van politiegeweld. DESCRIPTION:The British Government proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist group on 5 July 2025 under the UK’s Terrorism Act 2000. \nPalestine Action\, also called Pal Action\, is a British direct action network founded in 2020 with the stated goal of “ending global participation in Israel’s genocidal and apartheid regime“. With Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems as their primary target from the beginning\, the organisation has been active in protests against the Gaza war in the United Kingdom\, with many of their most high-profile actions such as the “Filton 24” case coming in response to the Gaza genocide. It is currently proscribed as a terrorist group under the Terrorism Act 2000\, making membership of\, material support for\, or displaying items in support of the group a criminal offence in the UK. The group uses direct action to disrupt the UK arms industry\, which it accuses of being complicit with Israel in conducting a genocide. Palestine Action have mounted 45 documented direct actions in the United Kingdom. Key targets of the group have been British factories of Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems as well as RAF Brize Norton\, a Royal Air Force base. In their campaigns\, Palestine Action have used protest\, occupation of premises\, and destruction of property\, which sometimes resulted in its members being arrested. An action in Filton on 6 August 2024 resulted in a lengthy legal process during which the defendants were held on remand for 18 or more months\, during which time some undertook a hunger strike. In May 2026\, mixed verdicts were returned after a retrial\, and in June 2026 the four activists were sentenced to a total of over 20 years imprisonment. \nThe British Government controversially proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist group on 5 July 2025 under the UK’s Terrorism Act 2000\, citing property damage caused by a group of members at Brize Norton the month prior\, where the activists sprayed military planes with red paint. Subsequent reporting has revealed that the UK government had been considering the proscription of the group for at least a year prior to that date. Civil liberties groups criticised the ban as conflating protest with terrorism. Between proscription and the end of April 2026\, British police arrested at least 3\,070 individuals for showing support to Palestine Action\, many of these resulting from sit-ins in Parliament Square on 9 August 2025 and 6 September 2025\, and in Trafalgar Square on 4 October 2025. Further silent vigils were held in November 2025\, and during the wave of silent action over 600 more arrests were made. On 13 February 2026\, the High Court of Justice ruled that the proscription was unlawful but would temporarily remain in place to allow the government to appeal. On 15 June 2026 the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court ruling and found the ban on Palestine Action to be lawful. The five judges said that the ban was a “justified and proportionate interference with individual rights”. Huda Ammori\, one of the co-founders of Palestine Action\, said that they would go to the Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights in order to overturn it. \nLinks:\n“Ik ben lid van een terroristische organisatie”

DESCRIPTION:De vrijmaking van slavernij wordt jaarlijks op 1 juli gevierd als KetiKoti (ketenen verbroken)\, voorafgaand aan deze dag wordt in juni de KetiKoti-maand gehouden\, waarin aandacht wordt gevraagd voor het slavernijverleden. \nSlavernij of lijfeigenschap is een vorm van onvrijwillige dienst waarin een persoon wordt behandeld als het eigendom van een ander persoon. De persoon die het bezit is\, wordt slaaf genoemd\, naar het Balkanvolk (Slavische volkeren) dat na de oudheid eeuwenlang de belangrijkste leverancier was van slaven. Op 1 juli 1863\, dertig jaar na het voorbeeld van de Britten\, klonken 21 kanonschoten in Paramaribo en werden de slaven vrije mensen. Het zou nog 10 jaar (1873) duren voor de slavernij daadwerkelijk in de praktijk werd afgeschaft. De Nederlandse regering betaalde een schadevergoeding van 300 gulden per slaaf aan de eigenaars ter compensatie voor het verloren eigendom. Slavenhouders maakten vlak voor de afschaffing extra jacht op weglopers om zoveel mogelijk compensatiegeld op te strijken. Slavernij komt nog steeds op veel plekken in de wereld voor\, hoewel het vrijwel overal illegaal is. DESCRIPTION:Geen enkel land ter wereld investeert meer in Israël dan Nederland\, met deze investeringen wordt actief bijgedragen aan Israëls genocide van Palestijnen in Gaza. \nAls ’s werelds grootste investeerder in Israël pompen bedrijven vanuit ons land miljarden in de Israëlische oorlogsmachine waarmee Palestijnen worden gedood en uitgehongerd. Uit onderzoek van SOMO blijkt dat Nederland in 2023 ruim 49 miljard euro in Israël heeft geïnvesteerd. Het gaat hierbij om investeringen van bedrijven vanuit Nederland in Israël. Daarmee is Nederland wereldwijd de grootste investeerder in Israël. Dit betekent dat Nederland de Israëlische staatskas spekt\, maar ook dat het de macht heeft om druk uit te oefenen op Israël om de genocide en illegale bezetting te stoppen. Terwijl bijna 2 miljoen Palestijnen in Gaza worden uitgehongerd en dagelijks burgers worden vermoord\, blijft Nederland de Israëlische economie voeden. Door de geldkraan naar Israël dicht te draaien kan Nederland daadwerkelijk levens redden. Nederland heeft als grootste Europese investeerder in Israël een strategische positie om de genocide te stoppen. Israël heeft deze investeringen namelijk hard nodig om de economie van genocide en bezetting draaiend te houden. \nNederland heeft het Genocideverdrag ondertekend en heeft zich daarmee verplicht alles te doen wat in haar macht ligt om genocide te stoppen. De EU weigert nog altijd om een grens te trekken en Israël sancties op te leggen. Daarom moet Nederland nu zélf actie ondernemen. Met het onderzoek van SOMO wordt duidelijk dat Nederland genoeg kan doen en zou moeten doen. De regering moet sancties invoeren tegen Israël en een einde maken aan Nederlandse handel en investeringen die bijdragen aan de Israëlische genocide in Gaza en de illegale bezetting van Palestijns gebied. Naast deze sancties moet Nederland een volledig verbod invoeren op handel die bijdraagt aan het in stand houden van de illegale nederzettingen. Nederland mag niet langer bijdragen aan Israëls economie van genocide en bezetting. Dinsdag 2 december 2025 wordt deze petitie aangeboden in de Tweede Kamer. Ondanks een staakt-het-vuren gaat de genocide in Gaza gewoon door. Ook neemt het geweld van kolonisten tegen Palestijnen op de Westelijke Jordaanoever toe. DESCRIPTION:Op 15 juni 2025 trokken meer dan 150.000 mensen opnieuw een Rode Lijn en demonstreerden samen in Den Haag. \nEn demonstreren helpt! Een deel van de Nederlandse politiek heeft ons gehoord en naar ons geluisterd. Voor het eerst sinds de start van de genocide dienden maar liefst acht politieke partijen een gezamenlijke motie in waarin effectieve acties richting Israël werd geëist. De motie kreeg uiteindelijk geen meerderheid\, onder andere door gebrek aan steun van de coalitiepartijen NSC\, VVD en BBB. Daarmee blokkeren deze coalitiepartijen keer op keer alle concrete acties die Nederland zou moeten nemen om de druk op Israël effectief op te voeren. Er wordt dus doorgegaan met de druk op te voeren en jij kunt daarbij helpen vanachter je laptop. Spreek deze partijen aan op hun Palestina standpunt en eis actie. Woensdag 2 juli 2025 debatteert de Tweede Kamer opnieuw over de situatie in Palestina\, en specifiek over de inzet van Nederland tijdens de EU-vergadering op 15 juli 2025 waar wordt gesproken over EU-maatregelen tegen Israël. Dit is de laatste keer dat de Kamer debatteert voordat het zomerreces voor acht weken ingaat. DESCRIPTION:De Stonewall-rellen (Stonewall riots) vonden eind juni 1969 plaats in de wijk Greenwich Village in New York bij de ontruiming van de homobar Stonewall Inn door de Metropolitan Police. \nNa jaren van treiterijen en geweldplegingen door de politie besloot het bezoekende publiek van mensen binnen de lgbt-gemeenschap terug te vechten. Deze opstand vormt een scheidslijn in de geschiedenis van de holebi-beweging\, daar nooit eerder homo’s en travestieten in zulke grote aantallen hardhandig weerstand boden tegen de op hun gemeenschap gerichte vernederingen door de politie. De optochten die ter herdenking van deze rellen gehouden werden kregen als Gay Pride Parades wereldwijd navolging en in de VS werd juni de Pride-maand. DESCRIPTION:Torture seeks to annihilate the victim’s personality and denies the inherent dignity of the human being.\n\nDespite the absolute prohibition of torture under international law\, torture persist in all regions of the world. Concerns about protecting national security and borders are increasingly used to allow torture and other forms of cruel\, degrading and inhuman treatment. Its pervasive consequences often go beyond the isolated act on an individual; and can be transmitted through generations and lead to cycles of violence. The United Nations has condemned torture from the outset as one of the vilest acts perpetrated by human beings on their fellow human beings. Torture is a crime under international law. According to all relevant instruments\, it is absolutely prohibited and cannot be justified under any circumstances. This prohibition forms part of customary international law\, which means that it is binding on every member of the international community\, regardless of whether a State has ratified international treaties in which torture is expressly prohibited. The systematic or widespread practice of torture constitutes a crime against humanity. DESCRIPTION:Het Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers (COA) onderstreept in de derde Stand van de Uitvoering dat met stabiele\, structurele financiering de kosten voor asielopvang fors omlaag kunnen. \nHet uitblijven van deze slimme en degelijke financiering maakt de asielopvang onnodig duur\, kwetsbaar en inefficiënt. En het belangrijkste: hierdoor kan het COA niet bouwen aan stabiele opvang en blijft het afhankelijk van tijdelijke noodopvang. Dat is schadelijk voor bewoners en met name kinderen. Vanwege de tijdelijk locaties moeten zij te vaak verhuizen. DESCRIPTION:The term “conflict-related sexual violence” refers to rape\, sexual slavery\, forced prostitution\, forced pregnancy\, forced abortion\, enforced sterilization\, forced marriage and any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity perpetrated against women\, men\, girls or boys that is directly or indirectly linked to a conflict. \nThe term also encompasses trafficking in persons when committed in situations of conflict for the purpose of sexual violence or exploitation. A consistent concern is that fear and cultural stigma converge to prevent the vast majority of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence from coming forward to report such violence. Practitioners in the field estimate that for each rape reported in connection with a conflict\, 10 to 20 cases go undocumented. On 19 June 2015\, the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/69/293) proclaimed 19 June of each year the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict\, in order to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence\, to honour the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and to pay tribute to all those who have courageously devoted their lives to and lost their lives in standing up for the eradication of these crimes. The date was chosen to commemorate the adoption on 19 June 2008 of Security Council resolution 1820 (2008)\, in which the Council condemned sexual violence as a tactic of war and an impediment to peacebuilding. In response to the rise in violent extremism\, the Security Council adopted resolution S/RES/2331 (2016)\, the first to address the nexus between trafficking\, sexual violence\, terrorism and transnational organized crime. DESCRIPTION:Stichting Vluchteling organiseert sinds 2010\, rondom Wereldvluchtelingendag (20 juni)\, de Nacht van de Vluchteling om humanitaire crises in de wereld onder de aandacht te brengen. \nDoor middel van dit evenement laten ze zien solidair te zijn met mensen op de vlucht en halen we samen zoveel mogelijk geld op. Met deze opbrengst kan Stichting Vluchteling met haar lokale partners snel ter plekke levensreddende noodhulp bieden zoals onderdak\, medische zorg\, voedsel\, drinkwater en sanitaire voorzieningen. De Nacht van de Vluchteling is een wandeltocht waar bewustwording\, uitdagende kilometers en de bijzondere sfeer van saamhorigheid centraal staan. Je kan je individueel inschrijven\, maar ook samen met je familie of als organisatie een team starten. Onder de deelnemers zijn er ook mensen met een eigen vluchtverhaal en organisaties die zich dagelijks inzetten voor dit thema. Dit zorgt onderweg voor mooie ontmoetingen en gesprekken. In 2025 wordt gestart vanuit; Amsterdam\, Utrecht\, Rotterdam\, Nijmegen\, Tilburg én voor het eerst in Groningen! De 10 – en 20 km routes finishen op dezelfde startlocatie. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2025 Theme: Progress is clear\, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts! The 2025 World Day will focus on a key milestone: the release of the 2025 global estimates and trends of child labour. This joint report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will offer a comprehensive assessment of global progress toward the elimination of child labour. Although the detailed data are not yet available\, the estimates and trends identified will guide policy debates and calls for renewed commitment and investment. On this World Day\, ILO calls for full ratification of ILO Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age and the implementation of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.  Their effective ratification and implementation remain essential to achieving the goals set by the Durban Call to Action\, which urges us to aim for for strengthened prevention\, protection\, and partnerships to eliminate child labour. Dit betekent een decennium van jaarlijkse stijgingen in het aantal vluchtelingen en anderen die hun huis moesten ontvluchten. DESCRIPTION:Buitenspeeldag is een jaarlijks gehouden dag in Nederland (op de tweede woensdag van juni) en België (op de woensdag na de paasvakantie) met het doel kinderen te stimuleren om buiten te spelen en te sporten in hun eigen buurt. \nDe Nederlandse versie van Buitenspeeldag is de opvolger van de Nationale Straatspeeldag die bedacht is door Stop de Kindermoord en in 1986 voor het eerst werd georganiseerd. Straten werden afgesloten voor verkeer om kinderen veilig buiten te laten spelen\, maar daarnaast werd aandacht gevraagd voor veilige ruimte voor kinderen op straat.
