DESCRIPTION:On 22 and 23 July 2025\, the High Court of Justice in London will hear the Wikimedia Foundation’s legal challenge to the Categorisation Regulations of the United Kingdom (UK)’s Online Safety Act (OSA).  \nThe Wikimedia Foundation\, the non-profit that operates Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects\, announced its legal challenge earlier this year\, arguing that the regulations endanger Wikipedia and the global community of volunteer contributors who create the information on the site. In May 2025\, the Wikimedia Foundation launched a legal challenge against potential designation as a “category one” service under the Act\, which would subject Wikipedia to the most stringent requirements. The Foundation warned that complying with the law would compromise Wikipedia’s open editing model and invite state-driven censorship or manipulation. The Daily Telegraph reported in July 2025 that Wikipedia may restrict access for UK users if the government insists on full compliance. \nLinks:\nWikimedia Foundation Challenges UK Online Safety Act Regulations \nWe Support Wikimedia Foundation’s Challenge to UK’s Online Safety Act
