Met de hulp van moedige Tibetaanse experts en leerkrachten hebben journalisten het schandaal onthuld. Een VN-onderzoek zou de ware toedracht van de Chineses indoctrinatiescholen kunnen blootleggen. DESCRIPTION:Miljoenen van ons zien wat er zich in de Verenigde Staten afspeelt: agenten die mensen in het holst van de nacht van hun bed lichten en families op straat van elkaar scheiden. \nBuren staan onder shock en kunnen slechts vol afgrijzen toekijken. Een echo gaat het hele land door: de doffe dreunen van agenten die op de deur bonzen. Het geluid waar je bloed van bevriest. Stel je voor dat dit ook bij jou in de straat gebeurt. Op dit moment overweegt Europa ditzelfde pad op te gaan. Over vijf dagen komen regeringsleiders van de EU samen om een plan te ondertekenen dat rechtstreeks van Trumps wensenlijstje lijkt te komen. Een plan waarmee de overheid veel makkelijker bij mensen thuis kan binnendringen\, huiszoekingen kan doen en ze naar landen kan uitzetten waar ze nog nooit een voet hebben gezet. Onze politici hebben hier haast bij – ze hopen dat we zoet en stil blijven terwijl zij hun macht uitbreiden en nieuwkomers de schuld geven voor problemen waar zij niets aan willen doen. Maar ze hopen tevergeefs. Dit is precies het moment waarop mensen zoals wij van ons laten horen\, luid en duidelijk. Op zulke momenten kunnen ze niet anders dan naar ons luisteren. Wij kunnen hier iets aan doen. Terwijl 78% van de jongeren klimaatverandering als een serieus vraagstuk voor Nederland ziet\, voelt de helft van de jongeren zich niet gehoord door de overheid bij beslissingen over het klimaat. Als het gaat om verantwoordelijkheid\, kijken jongeren in de eerste plaats naar de overheid (44%)\, gevolgd door bedrijven (25%) en individuen (19%). Tegelijkertijd is er stevige kritiek van jongeren op het huidige beleid: 54% vindt dat de overheid niet genoeg doet en 26% vindt zelfs dat er veel te weinig gebeurt. Dit blijkt uit een representatief onderzoek onder 1.775 jongeren van 12 t/m 29 jaar van State of Youth NL. All of them have individual voting rights and all votes are equal\, regardless of the population of the delegate’s member State. The employer and worker delegates are normally chosen in agreement with the most representative national organizations of employers and workers. Usually\, the workers and employers’ delegates coordinate their voting. All delegates have the same rights and are not required to vote in blocs. Delegates can attend with advisers and substitute delegates\, and all have the same rights: they can express themselves freely and vote as they wish. Heads of State and prime ministers also participate in the Conference. DESCRIPTION:Palantir is een Amerikaans softwarebedrijf dat wereldwijd overheden\, inlichtingendiensten en bedrijven helpt om met AI grote hoeveelheden data te verzamelen en te visualiseren. \nHet bedrijf is opgericht door de miljardair Peter Thiel\, bondgenoot van Trump en financier van extreemrechtse bewegingen wereldwijd. De AI-gestuurde platforms van Palantir brengen enorme\, uiteenlopende datasets samen in één enkel systeem voor het volgen van doelwitten. Palantir wordt ingezet door onder meer ICE bij het opsporen van ongedocumenteerde mensen\, de CIA bij het verzamelen en analyseren van grote hoeveelheden data\, en het Israëlische leger bij de genocide in Gaza. Het bedrijf levert AI-software aan het Israëlische leger waarbij met onbemande drones zelfstandig doelwitten worden geselecteerd en gedood. De speciale rapporteur van de VN-Mensenrechtenraad en Amnesty International waarschuwen dat Palantir medeplichtig is aan Israëls genocide. In Nederland wordt Palantir gebruikt door onder meer de politie. Naar eigen zeggen uitsluitend voor het opsporen van zware criminaliteit en terrorismebestrijding\, maar de overheid is hier niet transparant over: pas vorig jaar werd bekend dat de samenwerking al sinds 2011 bestaat. Door de samenwerking met de politie heeft het bedrijf toegang tot de data van miljoenen Nederlanders. Reclame is geen onschuldige keuze-informatie. Bedrijven steken er niet voor niets zoveel geld in: het werkt. Kinderen zijn daar al helemaal niet tegen opgewassen. Het Verenigd Koninkrijk liet zien dat bijvoorbeeld een overdags verbod op junkfoodreclame echt verschil maakt. De voedingsindustrie boekt recordwinsten\, en de zorgkosten betalen wij met z’n allen. De overheid verzaakt haar plicht om de volksgezondheid te beschermen (Grondwet artikel 22). DESCRIPTION:International Whores’ Day / International Sex Workers’ Day\, observed annually on June 2\, honours sex workers and recognises the often exploitative nature of their working conditions. \nThe date commemorates the occupation of Église Saint-Nizier in Lyon by more than a hundred sex workers on June 2\, 1975 to draw attention to their inhumane working conditions. It has been celebrated annually since 1976. In German\, it is known as Hurentag (Whore’s Day) and in Spanish-speaking countries\, it is entitled the Día Internacional de la Trabajadora Sexual (the International Day of the Sex Worker). In the 1970s\, French police put sex workers under increasing pressure. The police repression forced them to work increasingly in secret. As a result\, they had less protection and there was more violence against sex workers. After two murders and the unwillingness of the government to improve the situation\, sex workers in Lyon occupied the Saint-Nizier Church and went on strike. DESCRIPTION:Every day\, children living in wars across the globe are facing unspeakable horrors: they are not safe sleeping in their homes or playing outside\, learning in school or seeking medical care at hospitals. From killing and maiming\, abduction and sexual violence\, to attacks on education and health facilities\, and the denial of the humanitarian assistance that they desperately need\, children are being caught in the crosshairs of warring parties at a staggering scale. \nThe United Nations Secretary-General’s Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict reveals that violence against children in armed conflict reached unprecedented levels in 2024\, with a 25 per cent increase in grave violations compared with the previous year. The United Nations verified 41\,370 grave violations against children\, affecting 22\,495 children worldwide. The highest numbers of grave violations were verified in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (8\,554)\, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (4\,043)\, Somalia (2\,568)\, Nigeria (2\,436) and Haiti (2\,269). Killing and maiming remained the most prevalent grave violation\, affecting 11\,967 children. Most casualties resulted from explosive ordnance\, including explosive remnants of war\, mines and improvised explosive devices\, as well as crossfire and the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.Thousands of children were recruited and used by armed forces and armed groups\, often in combat or support roles. The sharp rise in cases involving recruitment\, abduction and other overlapping violations highlights the growing risks faced by children in conflict settings. The United Nations verified a significant rise in conflict-related sexual violence against children\, including a dramatic increase in gang rape. Girls were disproportionately affected\, while boys were also subjected to sexual violence. The violation remains severely underreported because of stigma\, fear of reprisals\, lack of services and concerns for survivors’ safety.Denial of humanitarian access reached alarming levels in 2024. Parties to conflict attacked aid convoys and humanitarian personnel\, imposed movement restrictions\, interfered with relief operations and created administrative barriers\, leaving children without access to healthcare\, education\, protection and other essential services. The United Nations verified nearly 2\,000 attacks on schools and hospitals in 2024\, making these essential civilian facilities increasingly unsafe for children. Attacks on schools and hospitals\, as well as their military use\, continued to disrupt children’s access to education and healthcare. The destruction of civilian infrastructure and attacks on protected facilities further increased children’s vulnerability in conflict-affected areas. Ending and preventing grave violations against children remains central to the United Nations mandate on children and armed conflict. DESCRIPTION:Fisheries provide a vital source of food\, employment\, recreation\, trade and economic well-being for people throughout the world. \nIn 2015\, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean of the FAO proposed that an initiative be launched to declare an International Day for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. Following extensive consultations\, a proposal was submitted to the attention of the thirty-second session of FAO Committee on Fisheries. The Committee on Fisheries endorsed the proposal for the declaration of 5 June as the International Day for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. The date reflects the day when the Port State Measures Agreement officially entered into force as an international treaty. The entry into force of this agreement marks an historical event\, as it is the first international legally-binding instrument specifically devoted to the fight against illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing. The proposed draft resolution was submitted to the 40th Session of the FAO Conference (July 2017) for approval. In December 2017 the UN General Assembly in its annual resolution on sustainable fisheries proclaimed 5 June as the “International Day for the Fight Against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.” In a world of growing population and persistent hunger\, fish has emerged as an important commodity for the achievement of food security. However\, efforts by the international community to ensure the sustainability of fisheries are being seriously compromised by illegal\, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) recent report\, “Review of the State of World Marine Fishery Resources – 2025\,” over a third of fish stocks are being overexploited. IUU fishing catches millions of tonnes of fish every year. To curtail this\, Target 4 of Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Agenda adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly\, specifically urged the international community to “effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing\, illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices” by 2020. Meeting this ambitious target requires strong awareness-raising efforts to draw the attention of the general public to the negative impacts of illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing activities\, an activity in which FAO has been actively engaged. \nLinks:\nDay for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing

At the end of 2025\, there were 41.6 million refugees globally\, including refugees under UNHCR’s mandate\, people in a refugee-like situation\, other people in need of international protection and Palestine refugees under UNRWA’s mandate\, as well as 9 million asylum-seekers pending a decision on their asylum claims. In addition\, there were 68.7 million people displaced within their own country due to conflict or violence. The global number of refugees fell during 2025 with a decrease of 3 per cent compared to the end of 2024. This change reflects a sharp increase in the returns of refugees\, mostly to Afghanistan\, Syria and Sudan. The number of IDPs also decreased due to the returns of IDPs primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo\, Sudan and Syria. For children in particular\, play helps build relationships and improves control\, overcome trauma\, and problem-solving. It helps children develop the cognitive\, physical\, creative\, social\, and emotional skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Restricting opportunities for play directly impedes a child’s well-being and development. In educational settings\, play-based learning has been recognized as an effective approach to engage students actively in the learning process. It helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant\, thereby enhancing motivation and retention of information. Moreover\, play is considered to have a positive impact on promoting tolerance\, resilience\, and facilitating social inclusion\, conflict prevention\, and peacebuilding. In recognition of this\, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has enshrined play as a fundamental right of every child under Article 31. The international day creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. \nChildren learn best through play. Play creates powerful learning opportunities across all areas of development – intellectual\, social\, emotional and physical. Through play\, children learn to forge connections with others\, build a wide range of leadership skills\, develop resilience\, navigate relationships and social challenges as well as conquer their fears. When children play\, they feel safe. Children play to make sense of the world around them. More generally\, play provides a platform for children to express and develop imagination and creativity\, which are key skills critical for the technology-driven and innovative world we live in. Playful interactions contribute to the well-being and positive mental health of parents\, caregivers and children. When humanitarian crises turn a child’s world upside down\, it is in play that children can both find safety and respite from adverse experience while also being able to explore and process their experiences with the world. When children are driven from their homes by war\, conflict\, and displacement\, access to nurturing relationships with parents/caregivers and peers are critical buffers from the effects of violence\, distress and other adverse experiences. Play comforts and soothes children. To encourage playful interactions between parents/caregivers and children\, governments and other stakeholders need to create an enabling environment. 2026 Theme: ‘Protect Play\, Protect Childhood‘. Throughout June\, UNICEF will also be promoting expert tips and guidance for parents on everything from the science of play to fun activities for all the family. DESCRIPTION:Het Migratie- en asielpact is een reeks EU-regels over migratie die op 12 juni 2026 van kracht zullen worden. \nHet zal de lidstaten verplichten de kosten en inspanningen voor de opvang van migranten meer te verdelen en hervormt daarnaast de procedures voor asiel en grensbeveiliging van de Europese Unie\, naast andere bepalingen. Het Migratiepact bestaat uit 1 richtlijn en 9 verordeningen. In het Migratiepact staan onder andere de volgende afspraken: \n\n\n\nEU-landen moeten de identiteit van asielzoekers sneller vaststellen met een zogeheten screening.\nEU-landen die asielzoekers op hun grondgebied aanhouden die illegaal de buitengrenzen zijn overgegaan\, moeten die binnen 3 dagen alsnog screenen.\nEU-landen moeten gegevens van asielzoekers en migranten zonder de juiste papieren in een Europese databank invoeren. Daarmee kan de EU beter in de gaten houden in welke landen iemand asiel heeft aangevraagd.\nAsielprocedures moeten in de EU-lidstaten meer op elkaar lijken.\nVerplichte grensprocedures voor specifieke groepen asielzoekers. Bijvoorbeeld asielzoekers die weinig kans maken op asiel (uit landen waarvan de EU-landen 20% of minder van de asielverzoeken goedkeuren). Of asielzoekers die een gevaar zijn voor de openbare orde of nationale veiligheid. Die moeten aan de EU-grens al horen of ze mogen blijven of niet. Als ze geen asiel krijgen\, start direct de terugkeer naar hun thuisland. De verplichte grensprocedure geldt niet voor alleenstaande minderjarige vluchtelingen (behalve als ze een gevaar vormen voor de openbare orde of nationale veiligheid).\nEU-landen moeten zorgen voor genoeg capaciteit voor deze grensprocedures voor asielzoekers. Nederland moet 211 asielzoekers deze procedure gelijktijdig kunnen laten doorlopen.\nEU-landen mogen in crisissituaties afwijken van de regels. Bijvoorbeeld als plotseling grote aantallen vluchtelingen naar de EU komen. Of als een EU-land kampt met een natuurramp of epidemie. Zij moeten de Europese commissie om toestemming vragen en aantonen dat er sprake is van een crisis of overmacht.\nAsielzoekers moeten tijdens hun procedure samenwerken met de autoriteiten. Ze moeten bijvoorbeeld de juiste gegevens verstrekken over hun identiteit en nationaliteit\, de gehele asielprocedure beschikbaar zijn voor vragen of gehoor en in het land blijven waar ze asiel hebben gevraagd. Werken ze niet mee? Dan kan een land de asielaanvraag tijdelijk stoppen of afwijzen.\nKinderen die asiel aanvragen moeten binnen 2 maanden na hun asielaanvraag naar school (was 3 maanden).\nMinderjarigen zonder ouders of begeleiders\, gehandicapten\, ouderen\, slachtoffers van foltering en asielzoekers met trauma’s moeten snel ondersteuning krijgen. DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2026 Theme: Red card to child labour: Fair play for children\, decent work for adults. The 2026 World Day comes at a decisive moment. The 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour\, held in Marrakech\, reaffirmed the urgent need to accelerate action and translate commitments into concrete results. The Marrakech Global Framework for Action against Child Labour provides a concrete roadmap and indicators for tackling child labour through integrated responses that address root causes and protect every child’s rights. Under the slogan “Red card to child labour: Fair play for children\, decent work for adults”\, the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour campaign calls for reinforced action on the policies that prevent child labour and withdrawn children from it:  quality education\, universal social protection\, decent work and adequate livelihoods for adults\, stronger laws and enforcement\, better data and monitoring systems\, and responsible action in agriculture and supply chains. This action is urgently needed. DESCRIPTION:The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory\, including East Jerusalem\, and Israel examines violations and crimes against and affecting Palestinian children\, including serious physical and psychological harm by the Israeli security forces since 7 October 2023 resulting in the death of at least 20\,179 and injury of 44\,143 children. \nThe paper ‘The essence of childhood has been destroyed: Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023‘ describes the deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian children\, including post-ceasefire since the October 2025 Gaza peace plan. The Commission also examines a sharp increase in violence perpetrated by members of Israeli settlers against Palestinian children in the West Bank\, including East Jerusalem. The Commission examines the use of torture\, inhumane and degrading treatment\, including sexual and gender-based violence\, against Palestinian children\, particularly during mass arrests and in detention. It analyses pattern of Israel’s targeting of critical infrastructure essential to children\, such as healthcare facilities and its short- to long-term consequences\, as well as the impact of reproductive violence on newborns\, resulting in poor neonatal health and birthing outcomes; attacks on orphanages and schools\, impacting the loss of care for orphans and unaccompanied children\, and inducing academic harm and learning disruptions for children\, respectively. The Commission examines the impact of the conditions of life imposed by Israel in Gaza resulting in preventable mortality of children\, exacerbating morbidity\, and serious mental trauma from the relentless and widespread attacks by Israel over two years – collectively revealing severe\, multi-layered harm to Palestinian children’s survival\, health\, and development. Further\, the Commission examines how Israeli soldiers mock and weaponize symbols of childhood in Gaza\, raising ethical\, disciplinary and legal questions about the conduct of the Israeli security forces during the ground invasion of Gaza.
