Met de hulp van moedige Tibetaanse experts en leerkrachten hebben journalisten het schandaal onthuld. Een VN-onderzoek zou de ware toedracht van de Chineses indoctrinatiescholen kunnen blootleggen. DESCRIPTION:The Rights Forum is de petitie ‘Stop Israëls martelkampen. Eis actie van Jetten!’ gestart\, daarmee vragen zij aandacht voor het lot van de Palestijnse gevangenen en eisen actie van de Nederlandse regering. \nIsraël houdt bijna 10.000 Palestijnen gevangen in een netwerk van martelkampen: gevangenen worden uitgehongerd\, geslagen\, verkracht met voorwerpen of door honden en medische zorg wordt onthouden wat leidt tot amputaties en soms de dood. Dit zijn geen incidenten maar is systematisch\, georganiseerd beleid. Gevangenissen staan onder leiding van de Israëlische minister Ben-Gvir. En zijn nieuwste plan\, het executeren van Palestijnse gevangenen\, staat op het punt om beleid te worden. Israël schendt het anti-martelverdrag. De vorige regering wist dit\, maar weigerde in actie te komen. DESCRIPTION:(Vrijwilligers)werk en een nuttige bijdrage leveren aan de maatschappij is goed en gezond; maar soms lukt het\, ondanks alle wil van de wereld\, niet meer om voldoende mee te draaien in de maatschappij. \nDe overheid wil flink bezuinigen op arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkeringen. Deze uitkeringen zullen met 20% worden verlaagd. Ook degenen die nu al arbeidsongeschikt zijn. En ook de groep arbeidsongeschikten die zo ernstig ziek is dat zij nooit meer kúnnen en zúllen werken. Zij behoren tot de mensen met een IVA uitkering (volledig en duurzaam arbeidsongeschikt). Mensen die te horen hebben gekregen nooit meer beter te zullen worden: uitgezaaide kanker\, verslechterende spier-of zenuwaandoeningen zoals ALS\, Parkinson of een volledige verlamming. Het verzoek luidt: op humanitaire gronden voorkomen dat de meest kwetsbaren (IVA) inkomen verliezen en in financiële problemen komen. Het ‘omzien naar elkaar’ en ‘bestaanszekerheid’ dreigt in het gedrang te komen. Mensen komen flink in de financiële problemen\, direct leidend tot verlies van hun (soms aangepaste) woning\, sociale- en/of mantelzorg netwerk. Deze plannen zullen zonder uitzondering een forse aanslag vormen op hun toch al verminderde kwaliteit van leven. Dit alles bovenop het feit dat leven met beperkingen ten gevolge van ernstige ziekte al genoeg uitdagingen\, problemen en zorgen oplevert. Bovendien is zelfs een ‘hoge’ arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering geen riant inkomen meer. Vanwege nadelige belastingen (verlies van recht op kortingen en toeslagen) is het inkomen veelal net voldoende voor de basisbehoeften. De voorgenomen bezuinigingen zet mensen letterlijk op straat! Mensen met een IVA-uitkering is al heel veel afgenomen: gezondheid\, baan\, sociale contacten. Bezuinigen op het inkomen van zieken die écht nooit meer kunnen werken\, is moreel onjuist. Daarnaast werd de verlaging van deze uitkeringen met 20% op deze manier in geen enkel verkiezingsprogramma genoemd; enkel een ‘activerender stelsel’. Ook hadden de mensen met een huidige IVA-uitkering deze bezuinigingen op geen enkele manier kunnen voorzien. (Extra) verzekeren tegen arbeidsongeschiktheid kan niet meer als iemand al eenmaal ziek en/of arbeidsongeschikt is. DESCRIPTION:The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII or PFII) is the UN’s central coordinating body for matters relating to the concerns and rights of the world’s indigenous peoples. \nThere are more than 370 million indigenous people (also known as native\, original\, aboriginal and first peoples) in some 70 countries worldwide. The forum was created on 28 July 2000 by resolution 2000/22\, as an outcome of the UN’s International Year for the World’s Indigenous People in 1993\, within the first International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People (1995–2004). It is an advisory body within the framework of the United Nations System that reports to the UN‘s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). More specifically\, the Permanent Forum: \n\nprovides expert advice and recommendations on Indigenous issues to the Council\, as well as to programmes\, funds and agencies of the United Nations\, through ECOSOC;\nraises awareness and promotes the integration and coordination of activities related to Indigenous issues within the UN system;\nprepares and disseminates information on Indigenous issues;\npromotes respect for and full application of the provisions of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and follow up the effectiveness of this Declaration (Art. 42 UNDRIP).\n\nThe first meeting of the Permanent Forum was held in May 2002\, with yearly sessions thereafter. The Forum usually meets for 10 days each year\, at the UN Headquarters in New York. According to the ECOSOC resolution E/2000/22\, the Forum may also meet at the UN Office in Geneva or at such other place that it decides. In addition to the six mandated areas (economic and social development\, culture\, the environment\, education\, health and human rights)\, each session is thematically focused on a specific issue. The Permanent Forum is one of three UN bodies that is mandated to deal specifically with Indigenous Peoples’ issues. DESCRIPTION:Stichting Vluchteling (Netherlands Refugee Foundation) is formeel opgericht op 3 mei 1976 door Cornelis Brouwer\, destijds werkzaam als de Nederlandse vertegenwoordiger van de VN-vluchtelingenorganisatie het Hoog Commissariaat voor de Vluchtelingen (UNHCR). \nStichting Vluchteling is een in Den Haag gevestigde Nederlandse hulporganisatie\, die zich primair richt op het verlenen van (nood)hulp aan vluchtelingen in hun eigen regio. Dat wil zeggen aan vluchtelingen en ontheemden – (vluchtelingen binnen de eigen landgrenzen)\, die in eigen land of in een buurland wachten tot ze naar ‘thuis’ kunnen terugkeren. De stichting zorgt bij acute nood voor directe hulp zoals voedsel\, schoon drinkwater\, onderdak\, medische zorg en sanitaire voorzieningen. Bij langdurige conflicten biedt ze steun met bijvoorbeeld onderwijs\, weerbaarheidstrainingen en vakopleidingen. Dat doet de stichting samen met partnerorganisaties in 32 landen. De organisatie kwam voort uit de ‘Commissie ter Bestudering van het Vluchtelingenvraagstuk in Nederland 1952’\, waaruit opeenvolgende ad-hoccomités zich inzetten voor ondersteuning van vluchtelingen. Deze comités bestonden uit een breed samenwerkingsverband van kerken\, diverse hulporganisaties\, werkgevers- en werknemersbonden en andere maatschappelijke instellingen. In 1955 fuseerden de ‘Nationale Commissie Vluchtelingenhulp’\, die zich met inzamelingsacties richtte op hulp aan vluchtelingen buiten Nederland\, met de interkerkelijke commissie die zich inzette voor het binnenlandse werk tot de Nederlandse Federatie voor Vluchtelingenhulp (NFV). Deze Federatie ondersteunde de nationale comités die in de jaren vijftig en zestig van de twintigste eeuw telkens voor een andere vluchtelingencrisis geldinzamelingsacties organiseerden\, zoals voor gevluchte Tibetanen in 1976. DESCRIPTION:The investigation ‘Bad Connection‘ by Citizen Lab uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns and\, for the first time\, links real-world attack traffic to mobile operator signalling infrastructure. \nThe findings expose how suspected commercial surveillance vendors (CSVs) exploit the global telecom interconnect ecosystem\, leverage private operator networks\, and conduct covert location tracking operations that can persist undetected for years. Israeli telecom infrastructure was used to track citizens in more than ten countries over the past three years\, according to a report published recently by the digital research group Citizen Lab. The findings\, reviewed by Haaretz in recent weeks\, expose how efforts to upgrade phone network infrastructures built in the 1970s for the smartphone era still leave even the most advanced devices exposed to surveillance. The report describes two separate tracking operations\, each likely run by a commercial firm selling surveillance technologies to governments around the world. Het geluid waar je bloed van bevriest. Stel je voor dat dit ook bij jou in de straat gebeurt. Op dit moment overweegt Europa ditzelfde pad op te gaan. Over vijf dagen komen regeringsleiders van de EU samen om een plan te ondertekenen dat rechtstreeks van Trumps wensenlijstje lijkt te komen. Een plan waarmee de overheid veel makkelijker bij mensen thuis kan binnendringen\, huiszoekingen kan doen en ze naar landen kan uitzetten waar ze nog nooit een voet hebben gezet. Onze politici hebben hier haast bij – ze hopen dat we zoet en stil blijven terwijl zij hun macht uitbreiden en nieuwkomers de schuld geven voor problemen waar zij niets aan willen doen. Maar ze hopen tevergeefs. Dit is precies het moment waarop mensen zoals wij van ons laten horen\, luid en duidelijk. Op zulke momenten kunnen ze niet anders dan naar ons luisteren. Wij kunnen hier iets aan doen. DESCRIPTION:The Nakba (Arabic: النكبة\, romanized: an-Nakbah\, ’the “disaster”\, “catastrophe”\, or “cataclysm”‘)\, also known as the Palestinian Catastrophe\, was the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948\, and the permanent displacement of a majority of the Palestinian Arabs. \nMay 15\, 2026\, marks the 78th anniversary of the Nakba\, the forced expulsion of approximately 750\,000 Indigenous Palestinians from their homes in 1948. On top of the ruins of our homeland\, the Zionist movement established Israel as a settler colony\, which has adopted apartheid and military occupation to achieve its declared goal: maximum land\, minimum Palestinians. Israel’s livestreamed genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza is the darkest chapter in this ongoing Nakba of oppression and ethnic cleansing. Cutting all links of state\, corporate\, and institutional complicity in its genocidal regime has become an irrefutable legal\, not just moral\, obligation. Israel seeks to normalize and divert attention from its settler-colonial origins by overwhelming the world with tens of thousands of current crimes against Palestinians and the peoples of the region from Lebanon and Iran to Syria and Yemen. Perpetrating unspeakable depraved violence\, it aims to colonize our minds not only with despair but also with amnesia. But Palestinians\, like our ancient olive trees\, are resilient and patient; we also have a fertile collective memory. Our refugees’ right to return home and receive reparations is our most fundamental goal. We struggle\, after all\, not just to end the genocide and the ongoing Nakba but also to dismantle their root cause: 78 years of settler-colonialism and apartheid. \nThe term Nakba is used to describe both the events of 1948 and the ongoing persecution\, displacement\, and occupation of the Palestinians\, both in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip\, as well as in Palestinian refugee camps throughout the region. The foundational events of the Nakba took place during and shortly after the 1948 Palestine war\, including 78% of Mandatory Palestine being declared as Israel\, the expulsion and flight of 700\,000 Palestinians\, the related depopulation and destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages by Zionist militias and subsequent geographical erasure\, the denial of the Palestinian right of return\, the creation of permanent Palestinian refugees and the “shattering of Palestinian society”. The expulsion of the Palestinians has since been described by some historians as ethnic cleansing. In 1998\, Yasser Arafat proposed that Palestinians should mark the 50th anniversary of the Nakba declaring 15 May\, the day after Israeli independence in 1948\, as Nakba Day\, formalizing a date that had been unofficially used as early as 1949.The Nakba greatly influenced the Palestinian culture and is a foundational symbol of Palestinian identity\, together with “Handala“\, the keffiyeh and the symbolic key. Als het gaat om verantwoordelijkheid\, kijken jongeren in de eerste plaats naar de overheid (44%)\, gevolgd door bedrijven (25%) en individuen (19%). Tegelijkertijd is er stevige kritiek van jongeren op het huidige beleid: 54% vindt dat de overheid niet genoeg doet en 26% vindt zelfs dat er veel te weinig gebeurt. Dit blijkt uit een representatief onderzoek onder 1.775 jongeren van 12 t/m 29 jaar van State of Youth NL. De speciale rapporteur van de VN-Mensenrechtenraad en Amnesty International waarschuwen dat Palantir medeplichtig is aan Israëls genocide. In Nederland wordt Palantir gebruikt door onder meer de politie. Naar eigen zeggen uitsluitend voor het opsporen van zware criminaliteit en terrorismebestrijding\, maar de overheid is hier niet transparant over: pas vorig jaar werd bekend dat de samenwerking al sinds 2011 bestaat. Door de samenwerking met de politie heeft het bedrijf toegang tot de data van miljoenen Nederlanders. De overheid verzaakt haar plicht om de volksgezondheid te beschermen (Grondwet artikel 22). DESCRIPTION:International Whores’ Day / International Sex Workers’ Day\, observed annually on June 2\, honours sex workers and recognises the often exploitative nature of their working conditions. \nThe date commemorates the occupation of Église Saint-Nizier in Lyon by more than a hundred sex workers on June 2\, 1975 to draw attention to their inhumane working conditions. It has been celebrated annually since 1976. In German\, it is known as Hurentag (Whore’s Day) and in Spanish-speaking countries\, it is entitled the Día Internacional de la Trabajadora Sexual (the International Day of the Sex Worker). In the 1970s\, French police put sex workers under increasing pressure. The police repression forced them to work increasingly in secret. As a result\, they had less protection and there was more violence against sex workers. After two murders and the unwillingness of the government to improve the situation\, sex workers in Lyon occupied the Saint-Nizier Church and went on strike. DESCRIPTION:Every day\, children living in wars across the globe are facing unspeakable horrors: they are not safe sleeping in their homes or playing outside\, learning in school or seeking medical care at hospitals. From killing and maiming\, abduction and sexual violence\, to attacks on education and health facilities\, and the denial of the humanitarian assistance that they desperately need\, children are being caught in the crosshairs of warring parties at a staggering scale. \nThe United Nations Secretary-General’s Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict reveals that violence against children in armed conflict reached unprecedented levels in 2024\, with a 25 per cent increase in grave violations compared with the previous year. The United Nations verified 41\,370 grave violations against children\, affecting 22\,495 children worldwide. The highest numbers of grave violations were verified in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (8\,554)\, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (4\,043)\, Somalia (2\,568)\, Nigeria (2\,436) and Haiti (2\,269). Killing and maiming remained the most prevalent grave violation\, affecting 11\,967 children. Most casualties resulted from explosive ordnance\, including explosive remnants of war\, mines and improvised explosive devices\, as well as crossfire and the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.Thousands of children were recruited and used by armed forces and armed groups\, often in combat or support roles. The sharp rise in cases involving recruitment\, abduction and other overlapping violations highlights the growing risks faced by children in conflict settings. The United Nations verified a significant rise in conflict-related sexual violence against children\, including a dramatic increase in gang rape. Girls were disproportionately affected\, while boys were also subjected to sexual violence. The violation remains severely underreported because of stigma\, fear of reprisals\, lack of services and concerns for survivors’ safety.Denial of humanitarian access reached alarming levels in 2024. Parties to conflict attacked aid convoys and humanitarian personnel\, imposed movement restrictions\, interfered with relief operations and created administrative barriers\, leaving children without access to healthcare\, education\, protection and other essential services. The United Nations verified nearly 2\,000 attacks on schools and hospitals in 2024\, making these essential civilian facilities increasingly unsafe for children. Attacks on schools and hospitals\, as well as their military use\, continued to disrupt children’s access to education and healthcare. The destruction of civilian infrastructure and attacks on protected facilities further increased children’s vulnerability in conflict-affected areas. Ending and preventing grave violations against children remains central to the United Nations mandate on children and armed conflict. DESCRIPTION:Fisheries provide a vital source of food\, employment\, recreation\, trade and economic well-being for people throughout the world. \nIn 2015\, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean of the FAO proposed that an initiative be launched to declare an International Day for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. Following extensive consultations\, a proposal was submitted to the attention of the thirty-second session of FAO Committee on Fisheries. The Committee on Fisheries endorsed the proposal for the declaration of 5 June as the International Day for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. The date reflects the day when the Port State Measures Agreement officially entered into force as an international treaty. The entry into force of this agreement marks an historical event\, as it is the first international legally-binding instrument specifically devoted to the fight against illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing. The proposed draft resolution was submitted to the 40th Session of the FAO Conference (July 2017) for approval. In December 2017 the UN General Assembly in its annual resolution on sustainable fisheries proclaimed 5 June as the “International Day for the Fight Against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.” In a world of growing population and persistent hunger\, fish has emerged as an important commodity for the achievement of food security. However\, efforts by the international community to ensure the sustainability of fisheries are being seriously compromised by illegal\, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) recent report\, “Review of the State of World Marine Fishery Resources – 2025\,” over a third of fish stocks are being overexploited. IUU fishing catches millions of tonnes of fish every year. To curtail this\, Target 4 of Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Agenda adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly\, specifically urged the international community to “effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing\, illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices” by 2020. Meeting this ambitious target requires strong awareness-raising efforts to draw the attention of the general public to the negative impacts of illegal\, unreported and unregulated fishing activities\, an activity in which FAO has been actively engaged. \nLinks:\nDay for the Fight against Illegal\, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing
