SUMMARY:Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief 2026
DESCRIPTION:The United Nations General Assembly decided to designate 22 August as the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. \nThe General Assembly\, in its resolution A/RES/73/296\, designated 22 August as the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief recognizing the importance of providing victims of acts of violence based on religion or belief and members of their families with appropriate support and assistance in accordance with applicable law. It strongly deplored all acts of violence against persons on the basis of their religion or belief\, as well as any such acts directed against their homes\, businesses\, properties\, schools\, cultural centres or places of worship\, as well as all attacks on and in religious places\, sites and shrines that are in violation of international law. A previous resolution establishing the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism (A/RES/72/165) also recognized that working together to enhance the implementation of existing legal regimes that protect individuals against discrimination and hate crimes\, increasing interreligious\, interfaith and intercultural efforts and expanding human rights education are important first steps in combating incidents of intolerance\, discrimination and violence against individuals on the basis of religion or belief. \nBy proclaiming an International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief\, the General Assembly recalled that States have the primary responsibility to promote and protect human rights\, including the human rights of persons belonging to religious minorities\, including their right to exercise their religion or belief freely. Freedom of religion or belief\, freedom of opinion and expression\, the right to peaceful assembly and the right to freedom of association are interdependent\, interrelated and mutually reinforcing. They are enshrined in articles 18\, 19 and 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Upholding these rights plays an important role in the fight against all forms of intolerance and of discrimination based on religion or belief. The open\, constructive and respectful debate of ideas\, as well as interreligious\, interfaith and intercultural dialogue\, at the local\, national\, regional and international levels\, can play a positive role in combating religious hatred\, incitement and violence. Furthermore\, the exercise of the right to freedom of opinion and expression and full respect for the freedom to seek\, receive and impart information can play a positive role in strengthening democracy and combating religious intolerance. \nLinks:\nDay Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief

DESCRIPTION:International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12\, the purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. \nIt is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD\, concerts\, workshops\, cultural events\, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world. The World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth adopted a resolution to proclaim August 12 as International Youth Day at its first session in Lisbon\, Portugal\, from 8 to 12 August 1998. The recommendation was later endorsed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 17\, 1999\, with the adoption of Resolution 54/120. 2026 Theme: Different Contexts\, Common Aspirations. \nLinks:\nWorld Youth Day

SUMMARY:Roma Holocaust Memorial Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Monument to the Memory of the Holocaust of the Romani (Gypsies) in the site of German Nazi crimes during the second world war\, Borzęcin\, Brzesko County\, Poland\, click picture to enlarge By Jakub Hałun – Own work\, CC BY-SA 4.0\nRoma Holocaust Memorial Day (known by various slightly different names) is a memorial day that commemorates the victims of the Sinti and Romani Holocaust\, which resulted in the murder of an estimated 220\,000–500\,000 Sinti and Romani people by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II. \nThe date of 2 August was chosen for the memorial because on the night of 2–3 August 1944\, 2\,897 Roma\, mostly women\, children and elderly people\, were killed in the Gypsy family camp (Zigeunerfamilienlager) at Auschwitz concentration camp. Some countries have chosen to commemorate the genocide on different dates. The European Parliament on 15 April 2015\, declared “that a European day should be dedicated to commemorating the victims of the genocide of the Roma during World War II and that this day should be called the European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day”. The Council of Europe also holds commemoration ceremonies. \nLinks:\nThe History and Significance of August 2\, Roma Holocaust Memorial Day”

SUMMARY:2026 Morocco–Spain border incident / Ceuta migrant crossing crisis
DESCRIPTION:In late July 2026\, an estimated 60\,000 people\, predominantly young men\, breached and crossed the border from Morocco into the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta in North Africa\, with smaller numbers attempting to cross to another Spanish autonomous city\, Melilla\, about 400 kilometres away along the Mediterranean coastline. \nThis overwhelmed local reception facilities and prompted the government of Ceuta to request that the Spanish government declare a national emergency. Most entered by swimming around the Tarajal and Benzú breakwaters or by crossing on foot along the shoreline. By 31 July\, Spanish officials said about 50\,000 people had voluntarily returned to Morocco. By 4 August\, at least 99 of the migrants were reported to have died as a result of the incident. The European Union will hold emergency talks on Tuesday\, August 3\, to discuss the migration crisis in Ceuta after tense exchanges between Spain and other member states. Twenty-two member states issued a joint letter calling for co-ordinated action and the strengthening of the EU’s external borders\, after some 60\,000 migrants entered the Spanish enclave from Morocco. Ceuta and Melilla are two autonomous cities of Spain located on the north coast of Africa. The Morocco–Spain border these cities form part of is the European Union’s only external land border in Africa. Under a special condition of the Schengen Agreement\, border checks are done on exit from the cities – no one can travel from Ceuta or Melilla to mainland Spain without being identified by the National Police at the port or the airport. Morocco claims sovereignty over both cities\, while Spain regards them as an integral part of its national territory since the 1400s. \nLinks:\nWhy Did 60\,000 Migrants Cross from Morocco into Spain’s Ceuta?

SUMMARY:#HumanTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons / Werelddag tegen Mensenhandel 2026
DESCRIPTION:Human trafficking is a crime that exploits children\, men and women for numerous purposes including forced labour and sex. \nTrafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year\, thousands of men\, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers\, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking\, whether as a country of origin\, transit or destination for victims. UNODC\, as guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the Protocols thereto\, assists States in their efforts to implement the Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons (Trafficking in Persons Protocol). The Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment\, transportation\, transfer\, harbouring or receipt of persons\, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion\, of abduction\, of fraud\, of deception\, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person\, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include\, at a minimum\, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation\, forced labour or services\, slavery or practices similar to slavery\, servitude or the removal of organs. The World Day against Trafficking in Persons was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly\, in its resolution A/RES/68/192. Theme 2026\, “Trapped Behind the Scam\,” draws attention to a rapidly expanding form of human trafficking in which transnational organized crime groups exploit people to carry out industrial-scale financial fraud. Victims are trafficked for forced criminality and compelled to participate in online scam operations. This form of exploitation is closely linked to cybercrime\, financial fraud\, money laundering\, and corruption\, demonstrating the increasingly interconnected nature of organized crime. \nLinks:\nWorld Day Against Trafficking in Persons – 30 July

SUMMARY:75th Anniversary of the Refugee Convention / Verdrag betreffende de status van vluchtelingen / Convention relating to the Status of Refugees - ondertekening (1951)
DESCRIPTION:Het Verdrag betreffende de status van vluchtelingen of Vluchtelingenverdrag (Convention relating to the Status of Refugees) werd op 28 juli 1951 opgesteld tijdens een door de Verenigde Naties georganiseerde conventie na voorbereidende beraadslagingen in 1950 te New York en in 1951 te Genève. \nLinks:\nThe 1951 Refugee Convention and 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees \nMensen op de vlucht help je. SUMMARY:#SkillsRightNow #WorldYouthSkillsDay Wereld Jonge Talentendag / Werelddag van Vaardigheden van Jongeren 2026
DESCRIPTION:In 2014\, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day\, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship. \nThe world of work is changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence\, the green transition and growing social complexity are transforming how we learn\, work and participate in society. To thrive in this changing landscape\, young people need more than technical skills alone. They need a balanced set of competencies that combines technical\, digital\, AI\, green\, social-emotional and civic skills with the human qualities that technology cannot replace. Under the theme “Skills for a shared future”\,  this year’s World Youth Skills Day activities will spotlight the urgent need for innovative youth skills programmes—initiatives that empower young people not only to adapt\, but to lead with empathy\, bridge cultural divides\, build resilience\, and actively shape a more sustainable and inclusive tomorrow. Youth unemployment remains a major economic and social challenge worldwide. According to the ILO’s Global Employment Trends for Youth 2024\, the global youth unemployment rate fell to 13% in 2023 – a 15-year low and below the pre-pandemic level of 13.8%. However\, recovery has been uneven: in the Arab States\, East Asia\, and South-East Asia\, rates were higher in 2023 than in 2019. Meanwhile\, one in five young people globally – and over a quarter of young women – were NEET (not in employment\, education\, or training)\, with young women’s NEET rate (28.1%) more than double that of young men (13.1%). Even for those who work\, decent jobs remain scarce. Over half of young workers are in informal employment\, and in low-income countries\, three in four hold only self-employment or temporary jobs. Investment in green and blue sectors could create 8.4 million youth jobs by 2030\, but these must come with decent working conditions – including fundamental rights like equal pay\, collective bargaining\, and protection from harassment. \nEducation and training are central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The vision of the Incheon Declaration: Education 2030 is fully captured by Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education 2030 devotes considerable attention to technical and vocational skills development\, specifically regarding access to affordable quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship; the elimination of gender disparity and ensuring access for the vulnerable. In this context\, TVET is expected to address the multiple demands of an economic\, social and environmental nature by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship\, promoting equitable\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth\, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability. TVET can equip youth with the skills required to access the world of work\, including skills for self-employment. TVET can also improve responsiveness to changing skill-demands by companies and communities\, increase productivity and increase wage levels. TVET can reduce access barriers to the world of work\, for example through work-based learning\, and ensuring that skills gained are recognised and certified. TVET can also offer skills development opportunities for low-skilled people who are under- or unemployed\, out of school youth and individuals not in education\, employment and training (NEETs). \nLinks:\nWorld Youth Skills Day

SUMMARY:A12 blokkade : Stop fossiele subsidies! Stop genocide!

SUMMARY:Unshielded Childhood: Palestinian children and teenagers killed by Israel in the West Bank in 2025 - publication
DESCRIPTION:Since October 2023\, Israel has been waging an extensive assault on all aspects of Palestinian existence in the West Bank. \nThis includes a broad\, systematic violation of human rights\, first among them the most basic right – to life. Lethal\, unbridled violence employed by the Israeli regime’s armed forces\, including the military and settler militias\, has led to an unprecedent increase in the killing of Palestinians\, and particularly the killing of children and teenagers by Israeli forces. Over the course of two years and eight months\, from 7 October 2023 to 7 June 2026\, Israeli forces killed 235 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank. Five others were killed by settlers. In 2025 alone\, the year that is the focus of this investigation\, Israeli forces killed 54 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank. The unprecedented scale of killing of Palestinian children and teenagers by Israeli forces is the result of a reckless open-fire policy\, expanded to be even more permissive than in the past\, that is currently being implemented in the West Bank. Those responsible do not try to hide this policy; rather\, they give it full systemic backing\, as reflected in the remarks of Central Command Chief Avi Bluth\, who publicly boasted that “we are killing like we haven’t killed since 1967.” Bluth’s claim that “96% of those killed were involved in terrorism” – an allegation exposed as a brazen lie by documentation of the circumstances of death in B’Tselem’s list of Palestinian fatalities – also reflects the Israeli system’s routine identification of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces as “terrorists” or “terror operatives”\, including civilians who were not members of an armed organization and posed no danger at the time they were killed. B’Tselem’s investigation ‘Unshielded Childhood: Palestinian children and teenagers killed by Israel in the West Bank in 2025‘ of these cases found that only two of the 54 Palestinian children and teenagers killed in the West Bank in 2025 were armed with firearms at the time they were shot. This identification creates\, de facto\, systemic impunity for killing. The Israeli system does not stop at justifying these killings after the fact. It also refrains almost entirely from holding the perpetrators accountable. According to data from the human rights organization Yesh Din\, since the start of the war in October 2023\, no indictments are known to have been filed in cases involving killings in the West Bank. Yet the immunity guaranteed in advance and the absence of any real demand for accountability after these crimes are committed are not confined to the legal sphere. They are also reflected in “public impunity” that stems from the Israeli public’s indifference to the killing of Palestinian children. In this context\, the sharp rise in the killing of children in the West Bank by Israeli forces cannot be separated from the more than 21\,000 Palestinian children that Israel has killed as part of its genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The fact that even this inconceivable number has not led to public demands for a change in the policy of killing shows how far the dehumanization of Palestinians has gone in Israeli eyes. These processes are what enables a reality of killing children as a routine matter. \nLinks:\nUnshielded Childhood: Palestinian children and teenagers killed by Israel in the West Bank in 2025 \nMensenrechtenorganisatie: meer dode minderjarigen door schietbeleid Israël

SUMMARY:World Day in Support of Victims of Torture / Werelddag voor steun aan slachtoffers van foltering 2026
DESCRIPTION:Torture seeks to annihilate the victim’s personality and denies the inherent dignity of the human being.\n\nDespite the absolute prohibition of torture under international law\, torture persist in all regions of the world. Concerns about protecting national security and borders are increasingly used to allow torture and other forms of cruel\, degrading and inhuman treatment. Its pervasive consequences often go beyond the isolated act on an individual; and can be transmitted through generations and lead to cycles of violence. The United Nations has condemned torture from the outset as one of the vilest acts perpetrated by human beings on their fellow human beings. Torture is a crime under international law. According to all relevant instruments\, it is absolutely prohibited and cannot be justified under any circumstances. This prohibition forms part of customary international law\, which means that it is binding on every member of the international community\, regardless of whether a State has ratified international treaties in which torture is expressly prohibited. The systematic or widespread practice of torture constitutes a crime against humanity. On 12 December 1997\, by resolution 52/149\, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 26 June the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture\, with a view to the total eradication of torture and the effective functioning of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel\, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. 26 June is an opportunity to call on all stakeholders including UN Member States\, civil society and individuals everywhere to unite in support of the hundreds of thousands of people around the world who have been victims of torture and those who are still tortured today. \nLinks:\nDay in Support of Victims of Torture – 26 June\n \nInternational Day in Support of Victims of Torture\, 26 June \n26 June Virtual Brochure

SUMMARY:KidsRights Index 2026 - publicatie
– petitie

SUMMARY:#WithRefugees Wereld Vluchtelingen Dag / #WorldRefugeeDay 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe\, it falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. \nWorld Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives. Every minute 20 people leave everything behind to escape war\, persecution or terror. World Refugee Day 2026 comes at a time when the promise of safety is being tested in every region of the world. Seventy-five years after the adoption of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees\, that promise remains one of the clearest undertakings of the international community: that people forced to flee should not be returned to danger\, and should be able to live in dignity while displaced. Born from the ruins of war\, it was never meant for one region\, one generation or one people\, but for humanity as a whole. That safeguard is urgently needed today. More than 117 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide\, including families uprooted by war in the Sudan\, violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and prolonged crises in Ukraine\, Afghanistan\, the Syrian Arab Republic\, Myanmar and beyond. When people fleeing danger are denied protection\, insecurity deepens: families are driven on to perilous routes\, children lose years of learning\, women and girls face greater risks\, and host communities are left without the support they need. Protecting refugees is therefore not only an act of compassion; it is a condition of stability and peace. “Until Everyone Is Safe” is a call to keep that promise alive. It calls on Governments to uphold fair and accessible asylum systems\, donors to sustain life-saving support\, communities to welcome those forced to flee and each of us to defend the principle that safety must never depend on nationality\, wealth\, race\, religion\, gender\, political opinion or migration status. Protection is fulfilled only when people forced to flee can live without fear\, rebuild their lives\, contribute to their communities and\, when conditions allow\, return home voluntarily\, safely and with dignity. \nLinks:\nWorld Refugee Day \nNacht van de Vluchteling 2026

SUMMARY:Nacht van de Vluchteling 2026
In 2026 bestaat Stichting Vluchteling 50 jaar.

SUMMARY:“The essence of childhood has been destroyed”: Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023 - publication
DESCRIPTION:The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory\, including East Jerusalem\, and Israel examines violations and crimes against and affecting Palestinian children\, including serious physical and psychological harm by the Israeli security forces since 7 October 2023 resulting in the death of at least 20\,179 and injury of 44\,143 children. \nThe paper ‘The essence of childhood has been destroyed: Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023‘ describes the deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian children\, including post-ceasefire since the October 2025 Gaza peace plan. The Commission also examines a sharp increase in violence perpetrated by members of Israeli settlers against Palestinian children in the West Bank\, including East Jerusalem. The Commission examines the use of torture\, inhumane and degrading treatment\, including sexual and gender-based violence\, against Palestinian children\, particularly during mass arrests and in detention. It analyses pattern of Israel’s targeting of critical infrastructure essential to children\, such as healthcare facilities and its short- to long-term consequences\, as well as the impact of reproductive violence on newborns\, resulting in poor neonatal health and birthing outcomes; attacks on orphanages and schools\, impacting the loss of care for orphans and unaccompanied children\, and inducing academic harm and learning disruptions for children\, respectively. The Commission examines the impact of the conditions of life imposed by Israel in Gaza resulting in preventable mortality of children\, exacerbating morbidity\, and serious mental trauma from the relentless and widespread attacks by Israel over two years – collectively revealing severe\, multi-layered harm to Palestinian children’s survival\, health\, and development. Further\, the Commission examines how Israeli soldiers mock and weaponize symbols of childhood in Gaza\, raising ethical\, disciplinary and legal questions about the conduct of the Israeli security forces during the ground invasion of Gaza. Lastly\, the Commission provides recommendations to diverse stakeholders for the cessation of attacks\, reparations\, accountability and international enforcement of sanctions – aimed at advancing child-responsive justice. \nLinks:\n‘Het leek alsof Israëlische militairen schietoefeningen op Palestijnse kinderen hielden’

SUMMARY:Sport = Politiek
SUMMARY:#EndChildLabour World Day Against Child Labour / Wereld Dag tegen Kinderarbeid 2026
DESCRIPTION:Klik op afbeelding om te lezen\nThe World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2026 Theme: Red card to child labour: Fair play for children\, decent work for adults. The 2026 World Day comes at a decisive moment. The 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour\, held in Marrakech\, reaffirmed the urgent need to accelerate action and translate commitments into concrete results. The Marrakech Global Framework for Action against Child Labour provides a concrete roadmap and indicators for tackling child labour through integrated responses that address root causes and protect every child’s rights. Under the slogan “Red card to child labour: Fair play for children\, decent work for adults”\, the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour campaign calls for reinforced action on the policies that prevent child labour and withdrawn children from it:  quality education\, universal social protection\, decent work and adequate livelihoods for adults\, stronger laws and enforcement\, better data and monitoring systems\, and responsible action in agriculture and supply chains. This action is urgently needed. Despite progress\, 138 million children remain in child labour worldwide\, including nearly 54 million in hazardous work. On this World Day Against Child Labour\, raise the Red card to child labour. Mobilize\, speak out and act to turn the Marrakech commitments into real change for children\, families and communities everywhere. \nLinks:\nWorld Day Against Child Labour

SUMMARY:Day of Play 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Day of Play\, observed on 11 June\, creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. \nIt signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. Beyond mere recreation\, it is a universal language spoken by people of all ages\, transcending national\, cultural\, and socio-economic boundaries. This shared passion fosters a sense of community and national pride. It also fosters resilience\, creativity\, and innovation in individuals. For children in particular\, play helps build relationships and improves control\, overcome trauma\, and problem-solving. It helps children develop the cognitive\, physical\, creative\, social\, and emotional skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Restricting opportunities for play directly impedes a child’s well-being and development. In educational settings\, play-based learning has been recognized as an effective approach to engage students actively in the learning process. It helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant\, thereby enhancing motivation and retention of information. Moreover\, play is considered to have a positive impact on promoting tolerance\, resilience\, and facilitating social inclusion\, conflict prevention\, and peacebuilding. In recognition of this\, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has enshrined play as a fundamental right of every child under Article 31. The international day creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. \nChildren learn best through play. Play creates powerful learning opportunities across all areas of development – intellectual\, social\, emotional and physical. Through play\, children learn to forge connections with others\, build a wide range of leadership skills\, develop resilience\, navigate relationships and social challenges as well as conquer their fears. When children play\, they feel safe. Children play to make sense of the world around them. More generally\, play provides a platform for children to express and develop imagination and creativity\, which are key skills critical for the technology-driven and innovative world we live in. Playful interactions contribute to the well-being and positive mental health of parents\, caregivers and children. When humanitarian crises turn a child’s world upside down\, it is in play that children can both find safety and respite from adverse experience while also being able to explore and process their experiences with the world. When children are driven from their homes by war\, conflict\, and displacement\, access to nurturing relationships with parents/caregivers and peers are critical buffers from the effects of violence\, distress and other adverse experiences. Play comforts and soothes children. To encourage playful interactions between parents/caregivers and children\, governments and other stakeholders need to create an enabling environment. 2026 Theme: ‘Protect Play\, Protect Childhood‘. Throughout June\, UNICEF will also be promoting expert tips and guidance for parents on everything from the science of play to fun activities for all the family. Recognizing that increasingly play happens online\, the agency is equipping parents with guides and explainers on how to help keep their children’s online experiences safe and positive. \nLinks:\nInternational Day of Play 11 June

SUMMARY:UNHCR Global Trends report 2025 - publication
DESCRIPTION:UNHCR’s Global Trends report presents key statistical trends and the latest official statistics on refugees\, asylum-seekers\, internally displaced and stateless people worldwide. \nThe Global Trends report\, published in June 2026\, provides key statistical trends on forced displacement. It includes the latest official statistics on refugees\, asylum-seekers\, internally displaced and stateless people\, as well as the number of refugees who have returned home. At the end of 2025\, there were 41.6 million refugees globally\, including refugees under UNHCR’s mandate\, people in a refugee-like situation\, other people in need of international protection and Palestine refugees under UNRWA’s mandate\, as well as 9 million asylum-seekers pending a decision on their asylum claims. In addition\, there were 68.7 million people displaced within their own country due to conflict or violence. The global number of refugees fell during 2025 with a decrease of 3 per cent compared to the end of 2024. This change reflects a sharp increase in the returns of refugees\, mostly to Afghanistan\, Syria and Sudan. The number of IDPs also decreased due to the returns of IDPs primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo\, Sudan and Syria. However\, many of the returns occurred under adverse circumstances and the reintegration conditions remain extremely challenging. One in every 70 people\, or 1.4 per cent of the entire world’s population\, is now forcibly displaced. \nLinks:\nUNHCR Global Trends report \nAgenda – Migratie- en asielpact / EU Pact on Migration and Asylum – inwerkingtreding \nRecordaantal vluchtelingen naar huis\, maar VN zeker niet in jubelstemming \nVoor het eerst in 10 jaar minder mensen op de vlucht wereldwijd
