DESCRIPTION:Met de Europese Dag voor de Bescherming van Kinderen tegen Seksuele Uitbuiting en Seksueel Misbruik wil de Raad van Europa het bewustzijn vergroten en het debat over de bescherming van kinderen tegen misbruik en uitbuiting aanwakkeren. \nSeksuele uitbuiting en seksueel misbruik van kinderen zijn helaas nog steeds aan de orde van de dag. Ze zijn een ernstige schending van de rechten van kinderen en hebben langdurige en vaak levenslange schadelijke gevolgen. Om deze misdaden een halt toe te roepen en de slachtoffers te beschermen zal men niet de ogen moeten sluiten voor deze misstanden. Kinderen worden maar al te vaak buitenspel gezet van zaken die hen aangaan. Zij moeten de middelen\, ruimte\, kansen en ondersteuning krijgen om deel te nemen aan het ontwerp en de uitvoering van maatregelen\, beleid\, programma’s of andere initiatieven die gericht zijn op het voorkomen en reageren op seksuele uitbuiting en seksueel misbruik. DESCRIPTION:Two observances named World Orphans Day have been established to raise awareness of their plight; the first is observed on April 20 and the second on the second Monday of November. \nLosing both parents is one of the worst things that can happen to a child. There are hundreds of millions of orphans in the world who need someone to take care of them. In common usage\, an orphan is a child who has lost both parents. However\, some organizations\, including UNICEF and UNAIDS\, label children who have lost one parents as orphans\, too. The number of double orphans\, i.e. those who have lost both parents\, is relatively low in developed countries; the highest numbers of orphans exist in countries affected by extreme poverty\, wars\, and epidemics. Regions with the highest percentage of orphans are Africa (almost 12% of all children)\, Latin America & the Caribbean (about 7.5% of all children)\, and Asia (6.5% of all children). \nAccording to statistics\, every 19 seconds somewhere in the world\, a child is orphaned\, and 99% of orphans are never adopted. Most countries with high numbers of orphans usually don’t have a good system in place to support all orphaned children. Thousands of orphans across the globe live as street children devoid of parental care and vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Orphans raised in orphanages often struggle to adjust to adult life once released from the orphanage because they lack education\, resources\, and skills to support themselves. As a result\, many of them become homeless and commit crimes to survive\, or even end up committing suicide. \nSince governments of poor countries devastated by wars and epidemics are unable to provide orphans with proper care\, international organizations have to step in. There are a lot of organizations and programs supporting orphans worldwide. Two of them have established a World Orphans Day. World Orphans Day celebrated on April 20 was founded by Worldwide Organization for Charity (WOC)\, previously known as World Orphan Center. The organization is working to support orphans\, underprivileged children and widows with the ultimate goal of making them self-reliant through various support schemes\, ranging from coverage of living expenses to adoption. \nWorld Orphans Day celebrated on the second Monday of November was launched in 2006 by the Stars Foundation\, a Nashville-based organization comprised of the entertainment industry\, dignitaries\, and media and sports personalities that seeks to raise money to help orphans\, children in foster care\, street children\, and other vulnerable children. Both World Orphans Days aim to raise awareness about orphans worldwide and encourage people to support orphans any way they can. Of course\, giving an orphan a new loving family is the best way to change their life for the better\, but we realize that adoption isn’t for everyone. DESCRIPTION:Deze petitie roept de Tweede Kamer op om de noodzaak van vergoed dyscalculieonderzoek te erkennen omdat ieder kind heeft recht op passend onderwijs en gelijke kansen\, zonder diagnose kan een kind onnodig achterlopen\, faalangst ontwikkelen of zelfs uitvallen in het reguliere onderwijs. \nDe huidige situatie vergroot de kloof tussen kinderen met en zonder financiële middelen. In Nederland is dyscalculie een erkende leerstoornis die grote gevolgen kan hebben voor het leren\, het zelfbeeld en de toekomstkansen van een kind. Toch wordt een dyscalculieonderzoek – in tegenstelling tot dyslexieonderzoek – niet vergoed door de overheid. Dit leidt tot schrijnende kansenongelijkheid: alleen kinderen van ouders die een bedrag van €600 tot €1000 kunnen betalen\, krijgen de juiste diagnose en passende begeleiding. Dit moet veranderen. DESCRIPTION:Het Kinderrechtencollectief laat met de online monitor Kinderrechten in Beweging jaarlijks zien hoe ver de overheid is met het opvolgen van de adviezen van het VN-Kinderrechtencomité. \nKinderrechten in Beweging brengt data en beleidsveranderingen van het afgelopen jaar in beeld. Het laat op tien thema’s zien waar beweging in zit en waar nog veel meer actie op moet worden ondernomen. De kinderrechtenmonitor Kinderrechten in Beweging 2025 laat een zorgwekkend beeld zien van de staat van kinderrechten in Nederland. Ondanks beloften en beleid staan fundamentele rechten van kinderen – zoals het recht op onderwijs\, bescherming tegen armoede en online seksuele uitbuiting\, en een menswaardige asielopvang voor kinderen – structureel onder druk. Het Kinderrechtencollectief lanceert de kinderrechtenmonitor op 8 oktober 2025 tijdens het Verkiezingsdebat Kinderrechten. Kandidaat-Kamerleden gaan daar in debat over kansengelijkheid\, online veiligheid en kinderen in de asielketen. Eén op de twee jongeren tussen de 12 en 25 jaar krijgt ooit te maken met online seksueel misbruik of seksuele intimidatie. Alleen al vorig jaar maakten 25% van de jongeren tussen 12 en 25 jaar één of meerdere gebeurtenissen van online seksueel misbruik of intimidatie mee. Maar nog lang niet alle gevallen worden geregistreerd. \nHet Meldpunt Kinderporno verwerkte in 2024 ruim 127.000 meldingen van online seksueel kindermisbruik. Ook werden 1.344 beelden gesignaleerd waarvan vermoed wordt dat ze deels of geheel met kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) waren gemaakt – een nieuwe en snelgroeiende dreiging. Daarnaast wijst de kinderrechtenmonitor op een groeiende kloof in kansen. In Nederland leeft één op de 28 kinderen in armoede. Armoede beïnvloedt schoolprestaties: kinderen uit arme gezinnen of met een migratieachtergrond krijgen vaker een te laag schooladvies. Het recht op onderwijs wordt in Nederland stelselmatig geschonden. Steeds meer kinderen vallen buiten het onderwijs\, en het daadwerkelijke aantal ligt aanzienlijk hoger dan de officiële cijfers aangeven. Geschat wordt dat minimaal 70.000 kinderen drie maanden of langer thuiszitten. En dat maar liefst 280.000 kinderen verstoken zijn van volwaardig onderwijs. Kinderen met een beperking en hun ouders kunnen lang niet altijd kiezen voor een reguliere\, inclusieve school omdat ondersteuning vaak ontbreekt en er grote regionale verschillen zijn in de uitvoering van passend onderwijs. \nVoor kinderen in asielopvang is de situatie onverminderd schrijnend. Ondanks waarschuwingen van het Hof van Justitie van de EU\, inspecties en nationale instanties wordt het belang van het kind onvoldoende meegewogen bij asielprocedures. Opvangplekken van asielkinderen voldoen niet aan de randvoorwaarden voor een veilige en gezonde ontwikkeling. Het aantal kinderen in noodopvanglocaties is de afgelopen twee jaar meer dan verdubbeld. Er zitten nu 7.699 kinderen in de kindonvriendelijke (crisis)noodopvang. Bovendien wordt de maximale verblijfsduur van zes maanden continu overschreden. En door lange wachttijden in de asielketen zijn kinderen jarenlang (soms meer dan drie jaar) gescheiden van hun ouders. Dit is in strijd met het VN-Kinderrechtenverdrag en vraagt om acute maatregelen. Uit de kinderrechtenmonitor editie 2025 blijkt dat tijdelijke oplossingen en losse beleidsinitiatieven niet genoeg zijn om de aanbevelingen van het VN-Kinderrechtencomité te realiseren. Structurele wetswijzigingen en extra middelen zijn noodzakelijk. Dat concluderen de Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ) en de Inspectie Justitie en Veiligheid (IJenV) na verdiepend toezicht op jeugdbescherming en jeugdreclassering en pleegzorginstellingen. De inspecties vinden dat stevig leiderschap nodig is van bestuurders\, gemeenten en Rijksoverheid. DESCRIPTION:De Kinderombudsman presenteert het rapport “Opgroeien in onzekerheid. Wat kinderen in armoede ons in de afgelopen 10 jaar hebben verteld over hun leven en welzijn”\, de conclusie is onmiskenbaar: ondanks talloze initiatieven als schoolontbijten\, laptops en sportabonnementen\, blijft het welzijn en de ontwikkeling van kinderen die in armoede opgroeien\, ernstig onder druk staan. \nHet rapport is gebaseerd op data uit het onderzoek ‘Als je het ons vraagt’\, dat tussen 2016 en 2024 vijf keer is uitgevoerd. In totaal deden 9.809 kinderen van 8 tot 18 jaar mee\, van wie 628 kinderen aangaven dat er te weinig geld thuis is. Het onderzoek brengt de kwaliteit van leven in kaart aan de hand van veertien omgevingsvoorwaarden binnen en buiten het gezin\, aangevuld met een rapportcijfer dat kinderen hun eigen leven gaven. In Nederland leeft één op de 28 kinderen in armoede. Dat betekent dat gemiddeld één kind per klas zich zorgen maakt over de (geld)stress van hun ouders\, schooluitjes\, sport\, eten of zelfs de huur. Deze kinderen starten hun leven met een achterstand. Hun ontwikkeling komt onder grote druk te staan door voortdurende stress\, te weinig aandacht thuis en een gebrek aan kansen. Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat kinderen die hun leven een rapportcijfer van vijf of lager geven\, ongekend laag scoren op een aantal van de veertien omgevingsvoorwaarden die voor hun ontwikkeling van cruciaal belang zijn. Dit betekent dat hun kwaliteit van leven zo laag is dat hun welzijn en toekomstkansen ernstig in gevaar komen. \nHet rapport laat daarmee zien dat kinderrechten voor deze kinderen in armoede zwaar onder druk staan. De Kinderombudsman roept de demissionair staatssecretaris van Sociale Zaken én de politiek als geheel dringend op om armoede onder kinderen voortvarender aan te pakken. Het Rijk moet gemeenten duidelijke en inhoudelijke richting geven hierover. Dat kan door het Kinderrechtenverdrag als basis te nemen en dit te vertalen naar beleid dat alle levensgebieden van kinderen omvat volgens de veertien omgevingsvoorwaarden. Alleen zo voorkomen we dat gemeenten ieder hun eigen aanpak en prioriteiten kiezen\, met als risico dat kinderen in de ene gemeente wél kansen krijgen\, en in de andere niet. Pas dan pak je kinderarmoede écht aan. Het is tijd dus om de echte opgave onder ogen te zien: losse voorzieningen zijn waardevol\, maar lossen de kern van het probleem niet op. DESCRIPTION:Patient safety is a discipline that emphasizes safety in health care through the prevention\, reduction\, reporting\, and analysis of medical error that often leads to adverse effects. \nThe frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse events experienced by patients was not well known until the 1990s\, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors. Recognizing that healthcare errors impact 1 in every 10 patients around the world\, the World Health Organization calls patient safety an endemic concern. Indeed\, patient safety has emerged as a distinct healthcare discipline supported by an immature yet developing scientific framework. There is a significant transdisciplinary body of theoretical and research literature that informs the science of patient safety. No one should be harmed in health care. Yet thousands of patients across the world suffer avoidable harm\, or are put at risk of injury\, while receiving health care every single day. The 72nd World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA 72.6 ‘Global action on patient safety’ on 25 May 2019. The resolution recognizes patient safety as a global health priority and endorses the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September. World Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety. Furthermore\, the Day brings together patients\, families\, caregivers\, communities\, health workers\, health care leaders and policy-makers to show their commitment to patient safety. DESCRIPTION:Op zondag 24 augustus 2025 vindt voor de dertiende maal een groot herdenkingsprotest plaats voor kinderslachtoffers in Gaza\, op het Vredenburgplein in Utrecht zetten vrijwilligers opnieuw duizenden kinderschoenen neer. \nStichting Plant een Olijfboom roept hiermee op om deze kinderen niet te vergeten en er alles aan te doen om het genocidale bezettingsgeweld door Israel voor altijd te stoppen. Palestijnse kinderen worden niet alleen vermoord met bombardementen\, tankgeschut of kogels van scherpschutters\, maar ook zijn zij bewust uitgehongerd. Leiders van het Israëlische regime kondigden al in oktober 2023 aan niet te willen toestaan dat voedsel\, brandstof of wat dan ook Gaza nog binnen zou komen. En ook rondom maart 2024 zijn tientallen kinderen verhongerd. Deze uithongeringscampagne is in 2025 geïntensiveerd\, waardoor 263 Palestijnen waarvan minstens 112 kinderen verhongerd zijn. Deze kinderen die nu niet meer leven hadden dromen\, levens\, families en een toekomst. Kinderen die nog wel leven in Gaza hebben dat ook\, evenals hun ouders en grootouders. Tijdens het herdenkingsprotest worden namen van vermoorde kinderen gelezen door bekende en minder bekende Nederlanders. UNODC\, as guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the Protocols thereto\, assists States in their efforts to implement the Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons (Trafficking in Persons Protocol). The Protocol to Prevent\, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment\, transportation\, transfer\, harbouring or receipt of persons\, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion\, of abduction\, of fraud\, of deception\, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person\, for the purpose of exploitation. Participants have highlighted the ever-increasing significance of skills as the world is embarking on a transition towards a sustainable model of development. Education and training are central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. The vision of the Incheon Declaration: Education 2030 is fully captured by Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education 2030 devotes considerable attention to technical and vocational skills development\, specifically regarding access to affordable quality. \nTechnical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship; the elimination of gender disparity and ensuring access for the vulnerable. In this context\, TVET is expected to address the multiple demands of an economic\, social and environmental nature by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment\, decent work and entrepreneurship\, promoting equitable\, inclusive and sustainable economic growth\, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability. \nTVET can equip youth with the skills required to access the world of work\, including skills for self-employment. TVET can also improve responsiveness to changing skill-demands by companies and communities\, increase productivity and increase wage levels. TVET can reduce access barriers to the world of work\, for example through work-based learning\, and ensuring that skills gained are recognised and certified. DESCRIPTION:The World Day Against Child Labour\, which is held every year on June 12\, is an International Labour Organization (ILO)-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour\, it was spurred by ratifications of ILO Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for employment and ILO Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour. \nThe ILO\, the United Nations body that regulates the world of work\, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments\, local authorities\, civil society and international\, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers. According to ILO’s data\, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education\, health\, leisure and basic freedoms\, violating this way their rights. Of these children\, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments\, slavery\, or other forms of forced labour\, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution\, as well as involvement in armed conflict. \n2025 Theme: Progress is clear\, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts! The 2025 World Day will focus on a key milestone: the release of the 2025 global estimates and trends of child labour. This joint report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will offer a comprehensive assessment of global progress toward the elimination of child labour. Although the detailed data are not yet available\, the estimates and trends identified will guide policy debates and calls for renewed commitment and investment. On this World Day\, ILO calls for full ratification of ILO Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age and the implementation of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.  Their effective ratification and implementation remain essential to achieving the goals set by the Durban Call to Action\, which urges us to aim for for strengthened prevention\, protection\, and partnerships to eliminate child labour. DESCRIPTION:Buitenspeeldag is een jaarlijks gehouden dag in Nederland (op de tweede woensdag van juni) en België (op de woensdag na de paasvakantie) met het doel kinderen te stimuleren om buiten te spelen en te sporten in hun eigen buurt. \nDe Nederlandse versie van Buitenspeeldag is de opvolger van de Nationale Straatspeeldag die bedacht is door Stop de Kindermoord en in 1986 voor het eerst werd georganiseerd. Straten werden afgesloten voor verkeer om kinderen veilig buiten te laten spelen\, maar daarnaast werd aandacht gevraagd voor veilige ruimte voor kinderen op straat. DESCRIPTION:The Day of Play\, observed on 11 June\, creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. \nIt signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. Beyond mere recreation\, it is a universal language spoken by people of all ages\, transcending national\, cultural\, and socio-economic boundaries. This shared passion fosters a sense of community and national pride. It also fosters resilience\, creativity\, and innovation in individuals. For children in particular\, play helps build relationships and improves control\, overcome trauma\, and problem-solving. It helps children develop the cognitive\, physical\, creative\, social\, and emotional skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Restricting opportunities for play directly impedes a child’s well-being and development. In educational settings\, play-based learning has been recognized as an effective approach to engage students actively in the learning process. It helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant\, thereby enhancing motivation and retention of information. Moreover\, play is considered to have a positive impact on promoting tolerance\, resilience\, and facilitating social inclusion\, conflict prevention\, and peacebuilding. In recognition of this\, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has enshrined play as a fundamental right of every child under Article 31. The international day creates a unifying moment at global\, national\, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies\, training\, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide. \nChildren learn best through play. Play creates powerful learning opportunities across all areas of development – intellectual\, social\, emotional and physical. Through play\, children learn to forge connections with others\, build a wide range of leadership skills\, develop resilience\, navigate relationships and social challenges as well as conquer their fears. When children play\, they feel safe. Children play to make sense of the world around them. More generally\, play provides a platform for children to express and develop imagination and creativity\, which are key skills critical for the technology-driven and innovative world we live in. Playful interactions contribute to the well-being and positive mental health of parents\, caregivers and children. When humanitarian crises turn a child’s world upside down\, it is in play that children can both find safety and respite from adverse experience while also being able to explore and process their experiences with the world. When children are driven from their homes by war\, conflict\, and displacement\, access to nurturing relationships with parents/caregivers and peers are critical buffers from the effects of violence\, distress and other adverse experiences. Play comforts and soothes children. To encourage playful interactions between parents/caregivers and children\, governments and other stakeholders need to create an enabling environment. The theme for 2025 International Day of Play is “Choose Play – Every Day”. DESCRIPTION:De KidsRights Index is de eerste en enige wereldwijde ranglijst die jaarlijks meet in hoeverre de rechten van kinderen wereldwijd worden gerespecteerd en in hoeverre landen zich inzetten voor het verbeteren van de rechten van kinderen. \nDe KidsRights Index is een initiatief van de KidsRights Foundation\, in samenwerking met de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam: Erasmus School of Economics en het International Institute of Social Studies. Het omvat een ranglijst van alle VN-lidstaten die het VN-Verdrag inzake de Rechten van het Kind hebben geratificeerd en waarvoor voldoende gegevens beschikbaar zijn\, anno 2025 maken in totaal 194 landen deel uit van de Index. De geestelijke gezondheid en het mentaal welzijn van kinderen en adolescenten bereikt wereldwijd een kritiek niveau. Het KidsRights Index 2025 rapport vraagt aandacht voor deze problematiek en voor het verontrustende verband met problematisch gebruik van sociale media. Bovendien blijkt uit het indexrapport van dit jaar dat de score van Nederland op het waarmaken van kinderrechten in het algemeen verder daalt. DESCRIPTION:It is a sad reality that in situations where armed conflict breaks out\, it is the most vulnerable members of societies – namely children\, who are most affected by the consequences of war. \nThe six most common violations are recruitment and use of children in war\, killing\, sexual violence\, abduction\, attacks on schools and hospitals\, and denial of humanitarian access. On 19 August 1982\, at its emergency special session on the question of Palestine\, the General Assembly\, “appalled at the great number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children victims of Israel’s acts of aggression”\, decided to commemorate 4 June of each year as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The purpose of the day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical\, mental and emotional abuse. This day affirms the UN’s commitment to protect the rights of children. Its work is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child\, the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. \nFollowing on the ground-breaking Graça Machel report\, which drew global attention to the devastating impact of armed conflict on children\, in 1997 The General Assembly adopted 51/77 Resolution on the Rights of the Child. It was a landmark development in efforts to improve the protection of children in conflict situations. This signalled the start of a new consensus among Member States\, on the need for dedicated attention\, advocacy and coordinated effort\, by the international community\, to address the vulnerabilities and violations faced by children in conflict-related situations. Resolution 51/77 built on existing General Assembly efforts to protect the rights of children\, including through the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocol\, and the annual Rights of the Child resolutions. And it established the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. \nIn recent years\, the number of violations perpetrated against children have\, in many conflict zones\, increased. More needs to be done to protect the 250 million children living in countries and areas affected by conflict. More must be done to protect children from targeting by violent extremists\, to promote international humanitarian and human rights law\, and to ensure accountability for violations of the rights of children. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides us with the universal masterplan to secure a better future for children. The new agenda includes for the first time a specific target (16.2) to end all forms of violence against children\, and ending the abuse\, neglect and exploitation of children is mainstreamed across several other violence-related targets. \nLinks:\nDay of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression

DESCRIPTION:Honderdduizenden kinderen hebben het moeilijk op de basisschool omdat ze in armoede opgroeien: stress en oververmoeidheid hebben invloed op de schoolprestaties\, zegt het Jeugdeducatiefonds in het Schoolrapport van Nederland\, het land krijgt daarin een flinke onvoldoende. \n\nEr is bij deze kinderen thuis bijvoorbeeld geen geld voor een fiets of een bed\, en ongeveer 28.000 kinderen dragen geen bril omdat hun ouders dat niet kunnen betalen\, zo meldt het fonds op basis van eigen onderzoek en dat van andere organisaties. Het fonds werd 10 jaar geleden opgericht om in zulke gevallen hulp te bieden\, en werkt nu samen met zo’n 900 van de 6500 basisscholen in Nederland. Het fonds kocht afgelopen jaar bijvoorbeeld voor 229 kinderen een bed\, om te voorkomen dat deze kinderen op de grond moesten slapen of bij een broertje of zusje in bed. “Als kinderen niet goed kunnen zien of kunnen slapen\, kunnen ze ook niet goed leren”\, zegt het fonds in een toelichting.
