DESCRIPTION:The Rohingya genocide is a series of ongoing persecutions by the Myanmar (formerly Burmese) government of the Muslim Rohingya people. \nThe persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar dates back to the 1970s. Since then\, the Rohingya people have been persecuted on a regular basis by the government and nationalist Buddhists. The genocide has consisted of two phases to date: the first was a military crackdown that occurred from 9 October 2016 – January 2017\, and the second has been occurring since 25 August 2017. The crisis forced over a million Rohingya to flee to other countries. In een brief vragen ze onder meer om een volledig wapenembargo en het opschorten van het handelsverdrag tussen de Europese Unie en Israël. Volgens de ondertekenaars blijven de maatregelen die het kabinet tot nu toe heeft genomen\, zoals het weren van producten uit illegale nederzettingen\, ver achter bij wat nodig is gezien de situatie in Gaza en op de bezette Westelijke Jordaanoever. De brief is onder meer ondertekend door de oud-politici Job Cohen\, Jozias van Aartsen\, Jan Pronk en Ahmed Aboutaleb. Voormalig diplomaat Angélique Eijpe is ook een van de ondertekenaars. DESCRIPTION:Israel’s Systematic Dismantling of Palestinian Collective Life in the West Bank. \nSince the current Israeli government took office at the end of 2022\, and even more so since October 2023\, Israel has dramatically escalated its assault on all aspects of Palestinian life in the West Bank. At any moment\, Palestinians may be exposed to violence by soldiers or armed settler militias\, arrested and imprisoned\, subjected to abuse and humiliation\, and sometimes even killed. The Elimination Project draws on more than 2\,000 testimonies B’Tselem collected from Palestinians since October 2023 and over three decades of documenting the Israeli apartheid regime’s human rights abuses in the West Bank. The report looks at the current reality not as a collection of isolated incidents or specific harms\, but as part of a comprehensive mechanism of elimination that works to dismantle the conditions for continued Palestinian existence in the West Bank\, while deepening Jewish control and supremacy in an irreversible manner.
