SUMMARY:#WorldDrugDay Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking / World Drug Report - publication 2026
DESCRIPTION:By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987\, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. \nSupported each year by individuals\, communities\, and various organizations all over the world\, this global observance aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society. Global drug use and the number of drugs on the market have been increasing in the past decades. The century-long dominance of heroin in illicit global opioid markets is increasingly being challenged by changes in the illegal supply of opioids. Production\, seizures and use of cocaine continue to rise\, while low costs of manufacture and reduced risks of detection of synthetic drugs are contributing to their increase on illicit drug markets. Drug trafficking groups are seeking out technological innovation to target new audiences and ensure that drugs increasingly reach their users and help boost their billion-dollar businesses. Illicit drug markets have always been adapting\, and organized crime has always been looking to exploit gaps in governance and regulation. In response to these challenges\, this year’s campaign will showcase how the international community\, local and national governments\, civil society and the public is working together on innovative responses to reduce demand for and supply of illicit drugs and thus mitigate threats. Every year\, UNODC issues the World Drug Report\, full of key statistics and factual data obtained through official sources\, a science-based approach and research. UNODC continues to provide facts and practical solutions to address the current world drug problem and remains committed to attaining health for all. Health and justice sectors are under pressure and access to services and support is obstructed when we can least afford it. \nLinks:\nDay Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking \nWorld drug problem: persisting issues\, new challenges\, innovative responses

SUMMARY:#TobaccoExposed World #NoTobacco Day / Wereld Anti-Tabaksdag / Wereld Niet Roken Dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:World No Tobacco Day (WNTD)  is observed around the world every year on 31 May. \nThe yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco\, the business practices of tobacco companies\, what the World Health Organization (WHO) is doing to fight against the use of tobacco\, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. The Member States of the WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects\, which currently lead to more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide\, including 1.2 million as the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. The day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments\, public health organizations\, smokers\, growers\, and the tobacco industry. \nLinks:\nWorld No Tobacco Day \nWHO raises alarm on tobacco industry environmental impact \nTabakNee \nIt’s Time to Ban Cigarette Filters \nVerenigd Koninkrijk stap dichter bij tabaksverbod \nEuropean Week Against Cancer \nOnderzoek: stoppen met roken loont meer dan gedacht

SUMMARY:#TogetherWeCan Overdose Awareness Day / Herdenkingsdag voor Drugsgerelateerde Slachtoffers 2024
DESCRIPTION:Overdose Awareness Day (iOAD) is a global event held on 31 August each year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of overdoses\, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends. \nIt was initiated in 2001 in Australia by SJ Finn who was managing a needle and syringe program at The Salvation Army Crisis Centre in St Kilda\, Victoria. It has been run by the Penington Institute since 2012. The first day saw 6\,000 silver ribbons distributed across the country and into New Zealand. Since then the day has grown and is recognized in over 40 countries. So too\, sadly\, has the death toll from overdose continued to rise. Vigils were held in Vancouver in 2018\, where 38 people died of overdose in July 2018. Firefighters in the city attended 6\,234 overdose calls in 2017. The Ontario Pharmacists Association issued warnings about the dangers of prescription opioids. In Philadelphia\, where 1\,217 people died of opioid overdose in 2017 (the highest death rate of any major U.S. city)\, there were calls for an overdose prevention site in 2018. The Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Council of Orange County\, New York organised a candlelight vigil and remembrance ceremony at the Goshen Village Square. Guests were encouraged to bring a photo or other memento of a loved one. \nLinks:\nOverdose Awareness Day

SUMMARY:Wereld Longkankerdag / World Lung Cancer Day 2024
\nLinks:\n1 augustus Wereld Longkankerdag \nWanda de Kanter – Interview VARA-gids \n#TobaccoExposed World #NoTobacco Day / Wereld Anti-Tabaksdag / Wereld Niet Roken Dag 2024

World No Tobacco Day 2024 will give a platform to young people across the world\, who are urging governments to shield them from predatory tobacco marketing tactics. The industry targets youth for a lifetime of profits\, creating a new wave of addiction. Children are using e-cigarettes at rates higher than adults in all regions and globally an estimated 37 million youth aged 13–15 years use tobacco. \n  \n\n\nBericht van @a3veen\nBekijken op Threads\n\n\nLinks:\nWorld No Tobacco Day \nWHO raises alarm on tobacco industry environmental impact \nTabakNee \nWereld Longkankerdag \nCigarettes aren’t just bad for your health — they’re also poisoning the planet \nIt’s Time to Ban Cigarette Filters \nSigarettenfilters doen meer kwaad dan goed \nVerenigd Koninkrijk stap dichter bij tabaksverbod \nEuropean Week Against Cancer \nOnderzoek: stoppen met roken loont meer dan gedacht \nWorld No Tobacco Day: How will Europe achieve its first tobacco free generation? SUMMARY:#StoptoberNL 2023
\nLinks:\nStoptober
