DESCRIPTION:Steeds meer ziekenhuizen moeten sluiten\, op bevel van zorgverzekeraars. \nEn dat gaat maar door: na Zutphen verdwijnt nu ook ziekenhuiszorg uit Heerlen\, Friesland en deze week kwam er weer nieuws uit Zoetermeer. Het houdt niet op. Het resultaat? Zorg wordt alleen maar slechter én duurder. Help mee: op woensdag 25 oktober 2023 is er een actie bij de Tweede Kamer om de ziekenhuizen te redden. Roep de politiek op om het sluiten van ziekenhuizen te stoppen en om een Nationaal Zorgfonds in te voeren! Kom daarom op 25 oktober om 10.30 naar Den Haag\, ter hoogte van Bezuidenhoutseweg 2 tegenover de Tweede Kamer. DESCRIPTION:Wereld Spina Bifida (Open Rug) en Hydrocefalus Dag is een jaarlijks op 25 oktober terugkerend evenement om bewustzijn te kweken rond Spina Bifida en Hydrocefalus en aandacht te vragen voor de rechten van mensen die met deze aandoeningen zijn geboren. \nSpina Bifida:\nEen open rug\, ook bekend met de medische term spina bifida\, is een ingewikkelde aandoening aan de neurale buis die ontstaat tijdens de embryonale ontwikkeling. Dit wordt een neuralebuisdefect genoemd. Anencefalie is een minder bekend voorbeeld van een neuralebuisdefect. Bij spina bifida sluiten de ruggenwervels niet goed rondom het ruggenmerg. Het komt voor bij 4\,5 op de 10.000 geboorten. Als eenmaal een kind is geboren met spina bifida\, of als een van de ouders spina bifida heeft\, dan is er een kans van 4% dat het eerstvolgende kind eveneens spina bifida heeft. Als ouders reeds twee kinderen met spina bifida hebben\, is de kans op een derde kind met deze aandoening 10%. In Zuidoost-Azië komt de afwijking minder vaak voor (2\,5 op de 10.000 geboorten). De benaming spina bifida is gegeven door de Nederlander Nicolaes Tulp in 1637 \nHydrocefalus:\nHydrocefalus\, ook wel waterhoofd\, is een aandoening waarbij in de ventrikels te veel hersenvocht aanwezig is en de ventrikels vergroot zijn. De overmaat aan hersenvocht oefent druk uit op de hersenen\, waardoor hersenfuncties kunnen worden aangetast. Volwassenen kunnen hierdoor last krijgen van hoofdpijn\, migraine\, dubbelzicht\, verminderd evenwicht\, incontinentie\, problemen met lopen\, persoonlijkheidsveranderingen of mentale retardatie. Bij baby’s kan de omvang van de schedel sterk toenemen. Overige symptomen die gepaard gaan met hydrocefalus zijn braken\, slaperigheid\, insulten en zinking van de ogen. Hydrocefalus kan aangeboren zijn\, maar het is ook mogelijk een hydrocefalus op te lopen. Onder de aangeboren afwijkingen die hydrocefalus kunnen veroorzaken\, vallen onder andere neuralebuisdefecten en vernauwing van het aquaduct van Sylvius. Ongeveer 1 à 2 op de 1.000 nieuwgeboren baby’s krijgt een waterhoofd. Hydrocefalus kan ook ontstaan als gevolg van hersenvliesontsteking\, hersentumoren\, traumatisch hersenletsel\, intraventriculaire bloedingen en subarachnoïdale bloedingen. Er bestaan drie soorten hydrocefalus: communicerend\, niet-communicerend en normaledrukhydrocefalie. DESCRIPTION:Sinds 1998 wordt jaarlijks op 22 oktober de Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) georganiseerd. Met elk jaar een ander thema.\n\nStotteren wordt in de ICD-10 omschreven als “Spraak die wordt gekenmerkt door frequente herhaling of verlenging van geluiden\, lettergrepen of woorden of ook wel door herhaalde aarzelingen of pauzes die het vloeiend verloop van de spraak onderbreken. Dit dient alleen dan als een stoornis te worden geklasseerd indien de ernst ervan zodanig is dat het vloeiend verloop van de spraak duidelijk wordt belemmerd”. In dit lemma wordt uitsluitend de meest voorkomende vorm van stotteren besproken\, de communicatiestoornis (subcategorie) die in de DSM-IV (voorganger van DSM V) is ingedeeld bij de ontwikkelingsstoornissen. Bij mensen die stotteren is het spraakmotorisch systeem minder stabiel dan bij mensen die niet stotteren. Wanneer er een storing in het spraakapparaat optreedt treed het stotteren op en dat kan zorgen voor een enorm schaamte- en minderwaardigheidsgevoel. Storingen in het spraakapparaat treden tijdens zingen veel minder vaak op dan tijdens (spontaan) spreken. De eerste 6 minuten zijn cruciaal. Omstanders zijn sneller aanwezig dan de hulpdiensten. In deze kostbare minuten kunnen omstanders helpen\, vooral omdat 70% van de gevallen van een circulatiestilstand in en om het huis plaatsvinden. Leer daarom reanimeren en red levens. Jij maakt het verschil! In 2023 staat de World Restart A Heart Day in het teken van ‘Reanimatie – Iedereen verdient een kans’. DESCRIPTION:Elk jaar lanceert de Oogvereniging (patiënten- en belangenvereniging voor mensen met een oogaandoening) op de Dag van de Witte Stok (15 oktober) een campagne rondom dit mobiliteitshulpmiddel. \nWereldwijd vragen mensen met een visuele beperking die afhankelijk zijn van de witte stok\, om begrip van de medemens die gebruik maakt van de openbare ruimte. Helaas weten veel mensen zonder een visuele beperking niet waar de witte stok met de twee rode ringen voor staat. Daarom wordt rond 15 oktober aandacht gevraagd voor de witte stok. Met activiteiten door het hele land wordt de kennis hierover vergroot. Met als doel dat mensen rekening houden met mensen met een witte stok. Regelmatig zijn ook peesscheden en slijmbeurzen bij het ontstekingsproces betrokken. De term reuma omvat in de volksmond (en in de terminologie van de reumastichting) vele ziekten. Reumatoïde artritis\, artrose\, fibromyalgie\, de ziekte van Bechterew en jicht zijn een paar voorbeelden. DESCRIPTION:Cerebrale Parese (CP) betekent letterlijk hersenverlamming\, wereldwijd gezien is CP de meest voorkomende lichamelijke handicap bij kinderen. \nHet gebeurt nog steeds dat mensen met CP geen toegang hebben tot de juiste verzorging\, therapieën\, behandelingen en ondersteuning. Gelukkig is dat in Nederland wel beter geregeld. De visie van World Cerebral Palsy Day is ervoor te zorgen dat iedereen met CP dezelfde rechten\, toegang en kansen heeft als iedereen. De vereniging in Nederland voor mensen met CP is BOSK. Op hun website vind je volop ervaringskennis om je verder te helpen met alles wat op je pad komt als je een kind hebt dat CP heeft of voor volwassen met CP. De letterlijke vertaling dekt de lading niet. Cerebrale Parese\, ook wel cerebrale palsy of spasticiteit genoemd\, is een ontwikkelingsstoornis welke gekenmerkt wordt door onder andere communicatieve stoornissen en motorische stoornissen (onder andere spasme en krampachtig bewegen). Een intellectuele achterstand en epileptische aanvallen komen eveneens dikwijls voor. Welke delen van het lichaam worden aangetast\, de ernst en combinatie van symptomen kunnen voor ieder persoon anders zijn. DESCRIPTION:Meervoudige of multisysteematrofie (MSA) is een progressieve neurologische aandoening. MSA wordt veroorzaakt door het afsterven van zenuwcellen in specifieke zones van de hersenen. \nDe zones die het meest getroffen worden\, zijn de basale kernen\, de kleine hersenen en hersenstam. Deze celdegeneratie veroorzaakt problemen met beweging\, evenwicht en automatische functies van het lichaam\, zoals controle over de urineblaas. Vaak begint het tussen de 50 en 60 jaar. DESCRIPTION:Head and neck cancer is a group of cancers that starts in the mouth\, nose\, throat\, larynx\, sinuses\, or salivary glands. \nSymptoms for head and neck cancer may include a lump or sore that does not heal\, a sore throat that does not go away\, trouble swallowing\, or a change in the voice; there may also be unusual bleeding\, facial swelling\, or trouble breathing. About 75% of head and neck cancer is caused by the use of alcohol or tobacco. Other risk factors include betel quid\, certain types of human papillomavirus\, radiation exposure\, certain workplace exposures\, and Epstein-Barr virus. Head and neck cancers are most commonly of the squamous cell carcinoma type. The diagnosis is confirmed by tissue biopsy. The degree of spread may be determined by medical imaging and blood tests. Not using tobacco or alcohol can reduce the risk for head and neck cancer. While screening in the general population does not appear to be useful\, screening high risk groups by examination of the throat might be useful. \nHead and neck cancer often is curable if it is diagnosed early; however\, outcomes are typically poor if it is diagnosed late. Treatment may include a combination of surgery\, radiation therapy\, chemotherapy\, and targeted therapy. Following treatment of one head and neck cancer\, people are at higher risk of having a second cancer. In 2015\, head and neck cancers globally affected more than 5.5 million people (2.4 million mouth\, 1.7 million throat\, and 1.4 million larynx cancer)\, and it has caused over 379\,000 deaths (146\,000 mouth\, 127\,400 throat\, 105\,900 larynx cancer). Together\, they are the seventh most-frequent cancer and the ninth most-frequent cause of death from cancer. In the United States\, about 1% of people are affected at some point in their life\, and males are affected twice as often as females. The usual age at diagnosis is between 55 and 65 years old. DESCRIPTION:Patient safety is a discipline that emphasizes safety in health care through the prevention\, reduction\, reporting\, and analysis of medical error that often leads to adverse effects. \nThe frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse events experienced by patients was not well known until the 1990s\, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors. Recognizing that healthcare errors impact 1 in every 10 patients around the world\, the World Health Organization calls patient safety an endemic concern. Indeed\, patient safety has emerged as a distinct healthcare discipline supported by an immature yet developing scientific framework. There is a significant transdisciplinary body of theoretical and research literature that informs the science of patient safety. \nNo one should be harmed in health care. Yet thousands of patients across the world suffer avoidable harm\, or are put at risk of injury\, while receiving health care every single day. The 72nd World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA 72.6 ‘Global action on patient safety’ on 25 May 2019. The resolution recognizes patient safety as a global health priority and endorses the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September. \nWorld Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety. Furthermore\, the Day brings together patients\, families\, caregivers\, communities\, health workers\, health care leaders and policy-makers to show their commitment to patient safety.
