SUMMARY:Wereld Vitiligo Dag / World Vitiligo Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Elk jaar op 25 juni wordt tijdens Wereld Vitiligo Dag (World Vitiligo Day) aandacht gevraagd voor vitiligo\, wereldwijd staan er mensen stil bij de huidaandoening die voorkomt bij 1% van de mensen. \nDoor het delen van kennis en het ophalen van donaties\, wordt er gestreefd naar meer bewustwording en een verbetering in de kwaliteit van leven voor mensen met vitiligo. Vitiligo (soms ook leukoderma genoemd) is een huidziekte\, waarbij bepaalde pigmentafwijkingen optreden vanwege verstoringen in de productie van het huidpigment melanine. De patiënt ontwikkelt meer of minder uitgebreide\, scherp begrensde maar onregelmatig gevormde plekken waar het huidpigment verdwenen is\, vaak symmetrisch verdeeld op het lichaam of de ledematen. Vooral bij mensen met een donkere huid geeft dit een zeer opvallend en (door de patiënt zelf ervaren als) ontsierend effect en de ongepigmenteerde huid kan in de zon ook makkelijk verbranden. Langs de randen van de plekken vormen zich soms donkere plekken. Dit komt vooral veel voor in de schaamstreek\, bij mannen op het scrotum. De donkere plekken veranderen soms van structuur en plaats\, en blijven vaak niet stabiel maar blijven meestal wel beperkt tot een bepaald gedeelte van de huid en breiden zich vaak niet verder uit. Vitiligo kan overal op de huid van het menselijk lichaam voorkomen en wordt vaak als een probleem ervaren als het in bijvoorbeeld de gelaatsstreek ontstaat of als er op het lichaam meerdere plekken ontstaan. Vitiligo over een groot deel van het gehele lichaam komt minder voor. Mensen met deze pigmentafwijking mogen niet te lang blootgesteld worden aan zonlicht aangezien zij minder beschermd zijn tegen UV-straling. Vitiligo gaat soms gepaard met andere auto-immuunziekten\, zoals hypothyreoïdie\, lichen sclerosus\, myasthenia gravis en de ziekte van Addison. DESCRIPTION:By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987\, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. \nSupported each year by individuals\, communities\, and various organizations all over the world\, this global observance aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society. Global drug use and the number of drugs on the market have been increasing in the past decades. The century-long dominance of heroin in illicit global opioid markets is increasingly being challenged by changes in the illegal supply of opioids. Production\, seizures and use of cocaine continue to rise\, while low costs of manufacture and reduced risks of detection of synthetic drugs are contributing to their increase on illicit drug markets. Drug trafficking groups are seeking out technological innovation to target new audiences and ensure that drugs increasingly reach their users and help boost their billion-dollar businesses. Illicit drug markets have always been adapting\, and organized crime has always been looking to exploit gaps in governance and regulation. In response to these challenges\, this year’s campaign will showcase how the international community\, local and national governments\, civil society and the public is working together on innovative responses to reduce demand for and supply of illicit drugs and thus mitigate threats. Every year\, UNODC issues the World Drug Report\, full of key statistics and factual data obtained through official sources\, a science-based approach and research. DESCRIPTION:The UN General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/79/294\, proclaiming 27 June of each year the International Day of Deafblindness. \nThis day commemorates the birth of renowned author Helen Keller (1880 – 1968)\, one of the most iconic figures in the deafblindness community. Deafblindness is a combined vision and hearing impairment of such severity that it is hard for the impaired senses to compensate for each other\, and is thus a distinct disability with its own specific challenges\, barriers and requirements for support and inclusion\, different from those provided to individuals\, who are solely deaf or blind. Deafblind persons face barriers owing to deafblindness not being treated and/or recognized as a distinct disability\, further leading to invisibility in statistics\, policies and programmes\, and therefore impeding access to services. Professional deafblind interpreters and interpreter-guides are critical in ensuring access to information\, communication\, services and fundamental rights\, as well as enabling individuals with deafblindness to live independently and be included in the community. \nLinks:\nDay of Deafblindness

DESCRIPTION:Op 29 juni wordt jaarlijks tijdens Wereld Sclerodermie Dag / World Scleroderma Day aandacht gevraagd voor (behandeling van en onderzoek naar) Sclerodermie / systemische sclerose (Engels: (systemic) scleroderma)\, een chronische auto-immuunziekte die wordt gerekend tot de reumatische aandoeningen. \nDe naam ‘sclerodermie’ betekent ‘harde huid’. De ziekte veroorzaakt een verharding (sclerosering) van bindweefsel die zich doorgaans voordoet in de huid en vaak gepaard gaat met problemen van de haarvaten. Het kan ook interne organen aantasten\, waaronder de maag\, slokdarm\, darm\, longen en nieren. Er wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen twee verschijningsvormen: morfea en systemische sclerodermie. Hoewel morfea en systemische sclerose gelijksoortige huidafwijkingen hebben\, is er verder weinig overlap. Morfea gaat niet in systemische sclerose over. Symptomen die pleiten voor systemische sclerose zijn het fenomeen van Raynaud\, symmetrische huidafwijkingen en positieve ANA. Systemische sclerose is relatief zeldzaam: slechts twee tot zestien nieuwe gevallen per miljoen inwoners. Dat blijkt uit het onderzoek ‘Risicoscan internationale dreigingen voor de Nederlandse volksgezondheid\, Nederland beter voorbereid op de toekomst‘ van het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM). Het RIVM vroeg experts uit de wetenschap\, beleid en praktijk naar de toekomstige internationale dreigingen voor de volksgezondheid in Nederland\, inclusief Caribisch Nederland. Naast bovengenoemde punten werden ook de gevolgen van klimaatverandering\, zoals hogere temperaturen en meer weersextremen\, vaak genoemd. Verder vinden de experts het belangrijk dat de dreigingen in samenhang bekeken worden. SUMMARY:Hinder en slaapverstoring van vliegtuiggeluid in 2024 - publicatie
DESCRIPTION:Het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) publiceert het onderzoek ‘Hinder en slaapverstoring van vliegtuiggeluid in 2024. Blootstelling-responsrelaties voor burgerluchthavens en militaire luchthavens in Nederland‘ over de relatie tussen vliegtuiggeluid en ernstige hinder of slaapverstoring bij 14 luchthavens in Nederland\, dit heet een blootstelling-responsrelatie (BR-relatie). \nVoor de meeste luchthavens is er een duidelijke relatie te zien. Dat betekent dat de kans op ernstige hinder of slaapverstoring toeneemt naarmate het geluidniveau toeneemt. Wel kan de relatie per luchthaven verschillen en in de loop van de tijd veranderen. Het RIVM adviseert om voor beleid en regelgeving altijd actuele en voor de luchthaven specifieke BR-relaties te gebruiken. Zo kan de gezondheid van bewoners het best beschermd worden tegen vliegtuiggeluid. Op dit moment wordt in beleid en regelgeving nog vaak de BR-relatie uit 2002 toegepast om de effecten op hinder en slaapverstoring in te schatten. Deze is niet alleen oud\, maar ook afgeleid op basis van alleen gegevens voor Schiphol. Het onderzoek uit 2020 om BR-relaties opnieuw vast te stellen\, viel midden in de coronapandemie. Er was toen minder vliegverkeer en mensen brachten meer tijd thuis door. Dit kan effect hebben gehad op de uitkomsten. Daarom heeft het RIVM op verzoek van het ministerie van IenW en Defensie de relatie tussen vliegtuiggeluid en hinder vastgesteld op basis van nieuwe gegevens uit 2024. Het RIVM berekende de BR-relatie voor de luchthavens van Schiphol\, Rotterdam\, Lelystad\, Eelde\, Eindhoven en Maastricht en acht militaire vliegvelden. \nLinks:\nNieuwe blootstelling-responsrelaties voor luchthavens in Nederland \nRIVM: overheid gebruikt achterhaalde cijfers over overlast Schiphol\, meer mensen met ernstige slaapverstoring dan eerder gemeld

The global planning committee comprises patient advocates\, representatives from collaborating global patient advocacy organizations and professional societies\, and leading experts. DESCRIPTION:Een zoönose is elke ziekte of infectie die van nature overdraagbaar is van gewervelde dieren op mensen. \nDieren spelen dus een essentiële rol bij het in stand houden van zoönotische infecties in de natuur. Zoönosen kunnen bacterieel\, viraal of parasitair zijn of onconventionele agentia omvatten. Zoönosen zijn vaak diersoortspecifiek en hebben meestal consequenties voor de volksgezondheid. Het woord zoönose is afgeleid van de Griekse woorden zoön (dier) en nosos (ziekte). Veel fulminant  (levensbedreigend) verlopende infectieziekten zijn zoönosen\, daar deze bacteriën\, protozoa\, virussen of wormen vaak zijn aangepast om in hun specifieke gastheer te overleven zonder al te veel schade aan te richten\, maar deze bij andere gastheren een heftige immuunreactie oproepen. DESCRIPTION:World Drowning Prevention Day\, declared through the April 2021 UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/75/273 “Global drowning prevention”\, is held annually on 25 July. \nThis global advocacy event serves as an opportunity to highlight the tragic and profound impact of drowning on families and communities and to offer life-saving solutions to prevent it. All stakeholders – governments\, UN agencies\, civil society organizations\, the private sector\, academia and individuals – are invited to mark World Drowning Prevention Day by highlighting the need for urgent\, coordinated and multi-sectoral action on proven measures such as: \n\ninstalling barriers controlling access to water;\nproviding safe places away from water such as crèches for pre-school children with capable childcare;\nteaching swimming\, water safety and safe rescue skills;\ntraining bystanders in safe rescue and resuscitation;\nsetting and enforcing safe boating\, shipping and ferry regulations;\nimproving flood risk management.\n\nThe UN General Assembly resolution invited WHO to coordinate actions on drowning prevention within the UN system. In this capacity\, WHO leads preparations for World Drowning Prevention Day by producing related advocacy materials\, hosting a global launch event and supporting national and local activities in countries and communities around the world. Every year\, an estimated 236\,000 people drown\, making drowning a major public health problem worldwide. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death globally for children and young people aged 1-24 years. We beschermen het kwetsbare: onze woorden\, zieken\, ouderen\, zwakkeren. Vanuit dat perspectief is lezen ook een vorm van zorg\, een manier om herinneringen levend te houden en mensen te verbinden. In deze lezing verkent Irene Vallejo hoe in de geschiedenis boeken en zorg met elkaar verweven zijn om te laten zien waarom deze aandacht voor kwetsbaarheid samenlevingen sterker maakt en waarom dit urgenter is dan ooit. DESCRIPTION:3FM Serious Request (vaak verkort tot Serious Request) is een geldinzamelingsactie die sinds 2004 jaarlijks georganiseerd wordt in de week voor kerst door de Nederlandse radiozender NPO 3FM. \n\n3FM Serious Request komt dit jaar in actie voor De Nederlandse Brandwonden Stichting. Dat hebben 3FM-dj’s Barend van Deelen\, Sophie Hijlkema en Mart Meijer net bekendgemaakt in een speciale ochtendshow. Vanaf De Markt in ’s-Hertogenbosch\, waar het Glazen Huis vorig jaar stond\, vertrekken ze in een gigantische 3FM-bus\, onderweg naar de nieuwe stad: Arnhem.
