Soms kunnen kleine veranderingen er al toe leiden dat mensen met autisme langdurig vastlopen. Autisme is een aangeboren pervasieve ontwikkelingsstoornis die zich kenmerkt door beperkingen in de sociale interactie\, de communicatie\, (bij kinderen tot 3 jaar) zich steeds herhalend gedrag en kan niet genezen worden. Iemand met een ernstige vorm van autisme kan niet zelfstandig leven. Mensen zien niet aan iemand dat deze autist is\, het is een onzichtbaar probleem. Daarom onderschatten veel mensen het. Tegenwoordig wordt autisme als onafhankelijk van de intelligentie beschouwd. Maar het zijn niet alleen de ontwikkelingen in de wetenschap die de adviezen van de Gezondheidsraad bepalen. De raad heeft ook nadrukkelijk oog voor de maatschappelijke\, politieke en bestuurlijke omgeving waar de adviezen in landen. Het is ook van belang dat onze adviezen beleidsrelevant zijn. Dat betekent dat het advies niet stopt bij een wetenschappelijke analyse\, maar ook blijk geeft van inzicht in de uitvoeringspraktijk. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the World Health Organization (WHO) commemorates World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health\, social and economic consequences of TB\, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. \nThe date marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB\, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease. TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious killer. Each day\, over 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30\,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Global efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 63 million lives since the year 2000. The theme of World TB Day 2024 – ‘Yes! We can end TB!’ – conveys a message of hope that getting back-on-track to turn the tide against the TB epidemic is possible through high level leadership\, increased investments and faster uptake of new WHO recommendations. DESCRIPTION:Pesticide Action Week (PAW) is an annual event created in 2005 by Générations Futures\, a French NGO. It takes place from March 20 – 30 to promote more environmentally and human health-friendly agricultural practices\, these dates are not coincidental; they coincide with the first days of spring and also mark the beginning of pesticide spraying in agricultural fields. \nPesticide Action Week is a powerful force for awareness-raising and action for a pesticide-free Europe. Every year\, hundreds of citizens\, associations\, farmers\, companies\, teachers\, local governments organise a wide range of events: conferences\, film screenings\, theater shows\, open door days\, organic cooking classes\, exhibitions\, workshops\, information booths\, farmer markets\, community organic meals\, etc. The public is invited to get better informed about the health and environmental challenges caused by pesticides and learn more about alternatives by taking part in one of the hundreds of organised activities. Through PAN Europe’s involvement\, this movement is now reaching beyond France to other European countries. DESCRIPTION:Suddenly Sleepy Saturday of Narcolepsie Dag valt altijd op de tweede zaterdag in maart\, omdat in sommige Amerikaanse staten iedere tweede zondag in maart de zomertijd begint. \nAls de klok een uur vooruit (of achteruit) wordt gezet kan je slaap-waakcyclus van slag raken. Je kan dan zo moe worden dat je vreselijk suf bent of zomaar in slaap valt\, precies zoals met narcolepsie dat gaat. Met Suddenly Sleepy Saturday wil men meer bekendheid geven aan de slaap-waakstoornis narcolepsie. Narcolepsie is een chronische neurologische aandoening\, die wereldwijd gemiddeld bij 40-60 van de 10.000 mensen voorkomt. In Nederland zijn er dan ook naar schatting tussen de 6.000 en 8.000 mensen die lijden aan narcolepsie\, maar bij slechts 1.000 patiënten is de diagnose gesteld. Omdat de ziekte relatief onbekend is bij artsen en vaak verward wordt met psychische aandoeningen duurt het gemiddeld tien jaar voordat de juiste diagnose wordt gesteld\, en bij sommigen wordt de diagnose helemaal niet gesteld. In 2024 wordt met de campagne Alarm voor de Darm aandacht gevraagd voor nazorg na darmkanker. Want hoe leef je verder met of na kanker? Voor anderen lijkt een ex-patiënt ‘beter’\, maar velen kampen met vermoeidheid en concentratieproblemen. Ook worstelen mensen met intimiteit en seksualiteit vanwege de fysieke sporen die de behandelingen achterlieten. Of omdat ze onzeker zijn over hun lichaam en wat dat nog kan. En hoe deal je als overlever met de angst voor terugkeer van de kanker? \nIn de campagne “Darmkanker is geen fabeltje” vraagt Stop Darmkanker vijftigplussers in Vlaanderen om zich op darmkanker te laten testen. DESCRIPTION:The Encephalitis Society\, sinds 2014 de initiator van de World Encephalitis Day\, hoopt met de World Encephalitis Day de 87% van de mensen te bereiken die niet weten wat encefalitis of  hersenontsteking is en wat de gevolgen er van zijn. \nWeten wat encefalitis is de sleutel voor een vroege diagnose en toegang hebben tot de beste behandeling en ondersteuning. Maar wat is encefalitis? Encefalitis betekent hersenontsteking. Bij hersenontsteking is de hersenmassa zelf ontstoken en worden zenuwcellen of de witte stof van de hersenen direct beschadigd. Niet te verwarren met meningitis\, dat is een ontsteking van de hersenvliezen. Encefalitis wordt veroorzaakt door virussen. De meest voorkomende oorzaak is het koortslipvirus. Nu moet je niet bij elke koortslip denken dat je encefalitis krijgt want het is een zeldzame ziekte met niet meer dan enkele tientallen gevallen per jaar in Nederland. DESCRIPTION:Chemiereus Chemours loost al decennialang levensgevaarlijke PFAS\, in water in de omgeving van de fabriek is tot twaalfduizend keer (!) meer PFAS aangetroffen dan toegestaan en ze zitten zelfs in moedermelk! \nProblemen met vruchtbaarheid\, het immuunsysteem en kanker kunnen het gevolg zijn. Al jarenlang wordt actie gevoerd door omwonenden en het bedrijf krijgt de ene rechtszaak na de andere aan de broek. Na een onthutsende documentaire waaruit bleek dat Chemours al heel lang weet hoe gevaarlijk PFAS zijn\, gingen ook politici zich roeren en een groot chemiebedrijf in België stopt nu versneld met PFAS. De druk op Chemours neemt toe — en recent spraken grote investeerders zich uit en riepen het bedrijf op te stoppen met PFAS. DESCRIPTION:International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness and promote an increased appreciation and deeper understanding of the challenges faced by children and adolescents with cancer\, the survivors and their families.\n\nICCD spotlights the need for more equitable access to treatment and care for all children with cancer\, everywhere. Every year\, more than 400\,000 children and adolescents below 20\, are diagnosed with cancer. The rate of survival depends on the region\, with 80% survival in most High Income Countries but as low as 20% only in Low and MIddle Income Countries. The Target Goal of the WHO Global Childhood Cancer Initiative is to eliminate all pain and suffering of children fighting cancer and achieve at least 60% survival for all children diagnosed with cancer around the world by 2030.
