DESCRIPTION:Sinds 1989 is het op 17 april ‘Werelddag Hemofilie’ (World Hemophilia Day) om ieder jaar extra aandacht te vestigen op de zeldzame bloedstollingsstoornis en andere bloedingsstoornissen. \nDe ‘Wereld Hemofilie Dag’ is een initiatief van de World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). De datum is ter ere de geboortedag van de stichter van de organisatie\, Frank Schnabel\, een Canadees zakenman met hemofilie. Hemofilie is een erfelijke stoornis in de bloedstolling. Het bloed kan niet goed stollen omdat een bepaalde stollingsfactor in het bloed ontbreekt. Bij hemofilie blijft de patiënt bij een verwonding of inwendige bloeding langer bloeden dan mensen zonder hemofilie\, ook bij een relatief klein ongeval zoals een sneetje of een bloedneus. Er zijn twee typen hemofilie. Bij hemofilie A heeft de patiënt onvoldoende factor VIII\, bij hemofilie B is er te weinig factor IX. Een tekort van een van de andere stollingsfactoren heet niet hemofilie maar is een ander stollingsprobleem. DESCRIPTION:De ziekte van Chagas is een tropische vectorziekte die voorkomt bij de mens en wel voornamelijk in Zuid-Amerika. \nDe verwekker is een protozoön genaamd Trypanosomacruzi\, die wordt overgebracht naar mensen en andere zoogdieren door de roofwants Triatomainfestans. De ziekteverwekker is verwant aan die van de Afrikaanse slaapziekte en veroorzaakt ook gelijksoortige symptomen. Acute symptomen zijn: hevige koorts\, bloedarmoede (anemie)\, eenzijdige zwelling in het gezicht of ooglid\, slaperigheid en algehele vermoeidheid\, hoofdpijn en braakneigingen. De ziekte kan in de eerste periode van een tot enkele maanden nog behandeld worden\, na deze incubatietijd is de ziekte niet meer te behandelen. In Zuid-Amerika is deze ziekte een groot probleem en sterven er veel voornamelijk arme mensen aan. Tot nu toe is er geen goed geneesmiddel voor de ziekte van Chagas gevonden. DESCRIPTION:Op 11 april\, de geboortedag van Sir James Parkinson\, wordt elk jaar Wereld Parkinson dag gehouden; wereldwijd wordt dan aandacht gevraagd voor de ziekte van Parkinson\, ook wordt de behoefte aan onderzoek en specialisten op het gebied van deze ziekte onder de aandacht gebracht. \nDe ziekte van Parkinson is een degeneratieve ziekte in het centraal zenuwstelsel waarbij zenuwcellen langzaam afsterven (“degenereren”). Dit leidt in eerste plaats tot stoornissen in de beweging: parkinson wordt daarom als bewegingsstoornis beschouwd. De symptomen komen langzaam op en worden naarmate de ziekte vordert ernstiger. In de beginfase van de ziekte bestaan de voornaamste symptomen uit schudden\, spasmen\, traagheid in beweging en moeite met lopen. Daarnaast kunnen ook gedrags- en cognitieve problemen voorkomen. In latere stadia is er een verhoogde kans op dementie. Ruim één derde van de parkinsonpatiënten lijdt aan depressie. De kenmerkende verschijnselen samen worden aangeduid met de naam parkinsonisme. De oorzaak van de ziekte van Parkinson is doorgaans onbekend. De ziekte ontstaat waarschijnlijk vanwege een combinatie van genetische en omgevingsfactoren. Familieleden van patiënten hebben een grotere kans om de ziekte ook te krijgen. Mensen die in aanraking zijn gekomen met bepaalde pesticiden en mensen die eerder hoofdletsel hebben opgelopen\, lopen meer risico de ziekte te ontwikkelen\, terwijl rokers en mensen die koffie of thee drinken minder risico lopen. Er is geen middel waarmee parkinson kan worden genezen. DESCRIPTION:De Maag Lever Darm Stichting is de initiatiefnemer van de Poepdag\, op deze dag worden mensen aangespoord om vaker achterom in de wc pot te kijken en onze keutel te bestuderen. \nOnze ontlasting vertelt ons namelijk veel over onze gezondheid; de kleur en structuur van je poep kunnen wijzen op een aandoening maar ook hoe vaak je een “grote boodschap” moet doen. Het is dus belangrijk dat je op de hoogte bent van de alarmsignalen en risicofactoren die bij darmkanker horen. Men kan het niet netter zeggen: check (niet alleen) op Poepdag je keutel! In en op ons lichaam zitten veel micro-organismen zoals bacteriën\, schimmels\, gisten\, virussen en andere eencellige wezens. Samen worden ze het microbioom genoemd. Het grootste gedeelte van het microbioom bevindt zich in ons spijsverteringsstelsel (70%)\, met name in de dikke darm. Vroeger werd het de darmflora genoemd. DESCRIPTION:The Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) has its online awards ceremony every year between May and June. \nIt is an opportunity to meet the winners and converse with the film producers\, the HAFF jury\, and global health experts. This dialogue continues throughout the years with more precise panel discussions recorded and available for health promotion and health education activities. In-person screenings of some of our winning and selected films have been organized by various World Health Organization (WHO) Offices and by several of the WHO HAFF institutional partners from a growing network. These events represent additional opportunities for this educational dialogue between filmmakers and health experts\, building up our global movement for positive behavior changes through films. In April and May 2024\, HAFF releases its new official selection published on WHO’s YouTube channel. The HAFF website presents the list of selected titles for each category of the competition with some keywords to ease your choice of films to watch. This strategic timing allows you all to actively engage with the shortlisted films. Focus is de crossmediale titel van het platform NTR Wetenschap. Naast het tv-programma is er de Focus-podcast die wordt gepresenteerd door Lara Billie Rense. Het platform heeft een YouTube-kanaal en is actief op Facebook\, X\, LinkedIn\, Instagram en TikTok. \nGeluidshinder is oorzaak van veel gezondheidsklachten. Ondanks maatregelen als geluidsschermen\, woningisolatie en stillere motoren lukt het niet om geluidshinder substantieel te verminderen. Hoe kan dat? Wetenschappers zoeken naar antwoorden. Bij de TU Delft onderzoekt men de invloed van de visuele omgeving bij geluid. Hoe we horen blijkt deels te worden bepaald door wat we zien. DESCRIPTION:In 2007 werd door de VN resolutie 62/139 aanvaard\, waarin 2 april wordt uitgeroepen tot Wereld Autisme Bewustwording Dag (World Autism Awareness Day)\, bedoeld om iedereen bewust te maken van wat autisme is; in Nederland valt de dag in de Autismeweek. \nAutisme is een aangeboren pervasieve ontwikkelingsstoornis die zich kenmerkt door beperkingen in de sociale interactie\, de communicatie\, (bij kinderen tot 3 jaar) zich steeds herhalend gedrag en kan niet genezen worden. Iemand met een ernstige vorm van autisme kan niet zelfstandig leven. Mensen zien niet aan iemand dat deze autist is\, het is een onzichtbaar probleem. Daarom onderschatten veel mensen het. Tegenwoordig wordt autisme als onafhankelijk van de intelligentie beschouwd. Wat de oorzaken betreft\, zijn er maar weinig wetenschappelijk goed onderbouwde conclusies. Soms kunnen kleine veranderingen er al toe leiden dat mensen met autisme langdurig vastlopen. Autisme is een aangeboren pervasieve ontwikkelingsstoornis die zich kenmerkt door beperkingen in de sociale interactie\, de communicatie\, (bij kinderen tot 3 jaar) zich steeds herhalend gedrag en kan niet genezen worden. Iemand met een ernstige vorm van autisme kan niet zelfstandig leven. Mensen zien niet aan iemand dat deze autist is\, het is een onzichtbaar probleem. Daarom onderschatten veel mensen het. Tegenwoordig wordt autisme als onafhankelijk van de intelligentie beschouwd. Maar het zijn niet alleen de ontwikkelingen in de wetenschap die de adviezen van de Gezondheidsraad bepalen. De raad heeft ook nadrukkelijk oog voor de maatschappelijke\, politieke en bestuurlijke omgeving waar de adviezen in landen. Het is ook van belang dat onze adviezen beleidsrelevant zijn. Dat betekent dat het advies niet stopt bij een wetenschappelijke analyse\, maar ook blijk geeft van inzicht in de uitvoeringspraktijk. TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious killer. Each day\, over 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30\,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Global efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 63 million lives since the year 2000. The theme of World TB Day 2024 – ‘Yes! We can end TB!’ – conveys a message of hope that getting back-on-track to turn the tide against the TB epidemic is possible through high level leadership\, increased investments and faster uptake of new WHO recommendations. It takes place from March 20 – 30 to promote more environmentally and human health-friendly agricultural practices\, these dates are not coincidental; they coincide with the first days of spring and also mark the beginning of pesticide spraying in agricultural fields. \nPesticide Action Week is a powerful force for awareness-raising and action for a pesticide-free Europe. Every year\, hundreds of citizens\, associations\, farmers\, companies\, teachers\, local governments organise a wide range of events: conferences\, film screenings\, theater shows\, open door days\, organic cooking classes\, exhibitions\, workshops\, information booths\, farmer markets\, community organic meals\, etc. The public is invited to get better informed about the health and environmental challenges caused by pesticides and learn more about alternatives by taking part in one of the hundreds of organised activities. Through PAN Europe’s involvement\, this movement is now reaching beyond France to other European countries. DESCRIPTION:Suddenly Sleepy Saturday of Narcolepsie Dag valt altijd op de tweede zaterdag in maart\, omdat in sommige Amerikaanse staten iedere tweede zondag in maart de zomertijd begint. \nAls de klok een uur vooruit (of achteruit) wordt gezet kan je slaap-waakcyclus van slag raken. Je kan dan zo moe worden dat je vreselijk suf bent of zomaar in slaap valt\, precies zoals met narcolepsie dat gaat. Met Suddenly Sleepy Saturday wil men meer bekendheid geven aan de slaap-waakstoornis narcolepsie. Narcolepsie is een chronische neurologische aandoening\, die wereldwijd gemiddeld bij 40-60 van de 10.000 mensen voorkomt. In Nederland zijn er dan ook naar schatting tussen de 6.000 en 8.000 mensen die lijden aan narcolepsie\, maar bij slechts 1.000 patiënten is de diagnose gesteld. Omdat de ziekte relatief onbekend is bij artsen en vaak verward wordt met psychische aandoeningen duurt het gemiddeld tien jaar voordat de juiste diagnose wordt gesteld\, en bij sommigen wordt de diagnose helemaal niet gesteld.
