DESCRIPTION:Sinds 2023 wordt er jaarlijks gevaccineerd tegen COVID-19 om kwetsbare groepen te beschermen tegen ernstige ziekte en sterfte als gevolg van besmetting met het SARS-CoV-2-virus. \nOp verzoek van het ministerie van VWS heeft de Gezondheidsraad beoordeeld of er aanpassingen nodig zijn aan de doelgroepen voor vaccinatie. De Gezondheidsraad adviseert in het ‘Advies COVID-19-vaccinatie in 2026 en 2027‘ om de leeftijd voor vaccinatie te verhogen van 60-plus naar 70-plus en\, net als afgelopen jaren\, vaccinatie aan te bieden aan mensen die vanwege onderliggende aandoeningen een verhoogd risico lopen op ernstige ziekte of sterfte door COVID-19. DESCRIPTION:Het is duidelijk: D66\, CDA en VVD gaan de zorg afbreken: meer dan 10 miljard euro bezuinigen op zorg en het verhogen van het eigen risico naar 520 euro zal enorme gevolgen hebben voor ouderen\, chronisch zieken\, gehandicapten\, de GGZ-zorg\, de kraamzorg en voor iedereen die zorg nodig heeft of zorgverlener is. \nDaarom moeten we ons laten horen. Voor een Nationaal ZorgFonds zonder eigen risico zodat goede en betaalbare zorg voor iedereen toegankelijk is. SP\, Dokters van de Wereld\, Recht op GGZ\, het Seniorennetwerk Nederland\, en vakbonden FNV\, CNV en Nu91 organiseren dinsdag 10 maart 2026 de Red de Zorg actie tegenover de Tweede Kamer. Ook zorgverleners en patiënten spreken op de actie. Op die dag wordt namelijk gestemd over voorstellen om het eigen risico van tafel te halen\, om de markt uit de zorg te halen en om de bezuinigingen de zorg te stoppen. DESCRIPTION:Met de ALS Sunrise Walk wordt de ziekte Amyotrofe laterale sclerose (ALS) in het licht gezet tijdens een nachtwandeling in Utrecht. \nIn 2026 worden opnieuw de straten van Utrecht verlicht! Loop mee met de ALS Sunrise Walk en zet ALS in het licht. Ga met duizenden anderen op pad om geld in te zamelen voor onderzoek naar de dodelijke spierziekte ALS. Samen lopen we de zonsopgang tegemoet en zetten we ALS in het licht. De vijfde editie van de ALS Sunrise Walk vindt plaats in de nacht van vrijdag 13 op zaterdag 14 maart 2026 in Utrecht. Je loopt in het donker een afstand van 25\, 15 of 5 kilometer. De 5 kilometerroute is rolstoeltoegankelijk. Samen maken we er een unieke en sfeervolle ervaring van. Neem lampjes mee en versier je kleding\, zodat je samen met de andere deelnemers ALS op een mooie manier in het licht zet. De ALS Sunrise Walk is ook dit jaar weer in Utrecht. DESCRIPTION:In april 2025 concludeerde het RIVM dat in heel Nederland veel meer Per- en polyfluoralkylstoffen (PFAS) in particuliere eieren kan zitten dan in commerciële eieren\, het RIVM-onderzoek ‘Source investigation of PFAS in home-produced eggs‘ bevestigt dat dit vooral komt door de wormen die kippen uit de bodem oppikken. \nHet RIVM onderzocht wat de bron is van PFAS in particuliere eieren. Particuliere eieren komen van kippen die als hobby worden gehouden. Bijvoorbeeld in tuinen\, moestuinen\, dierenweitjes en zorg- en kinderboerderijen. In de eieren van hobbykippen die buiten lopen is de grootste hoeveelheid PFAS gemeten. Het RIVM vond in wormen vaak veel en dezelfde PFAS als in de eieren. Daarom concludeert het RIVM dat wormen een belangrijke bron zijn van PFAS in particuliere eieren. Ook in andere bodemdieren zit veel PFAS. Waar de PFAS in de bodem vandaan komt is bij de locaties van de hobbykippen niet onderzocht. Daarnaast kunnen water\, grond\, stro of zaagsel en hout van kippenhokken bijdragen aan de hoeveelheid PFAS in eieren\, al is hierin veel minder PFAS gevonden dan in bodemdieren. Veel kippen leggen in de winter geen of minder eieren. De verwachting was dat daardoor de hoeveelheid PFAS in de eerste eieren na de winter beduidend hoger zou zijn. Dat blijkt niet het geval te zijn. Hoeveel PFAS gemeten wordt verschilt per locatie en kan elke dag anders zijn. Dit onderzoek heeft geen verklaring gevonden voor de verschillen. De uitkomst van een meting zegt daarom alleen iets over de eieren die op dat moment gemeten zijn. In heel Nederland zit PFAS in het milieu. Dat komt door uitstoot van industrie en via consumentenproducten. Eenmaal in het milieu\, breekt PFAS vrijwel niet meer af. Mensen in Nederland krijgen zo via voedsel en drinkwater meer PFAS binnen dan de gezondheidskundige grenswaarde. PFAS in particuliere eieren kan zorgen voor een flinke extra blootstelling. In het kader van het PFAS-onderzoeksprogramma doet het RIVM onderzoek naar hoeveel PFAS mensen in Nederland nu binnenkrijgen. Ook onderzoekt het RIVM waar deze PFAS vandaan komt. But its ability to partially evade immune defenses means it could still contribute to seasonal upticks in infections\, especially in populations with prior exposure or vaccination. The defining feature of the Cicada variant lies in changes to its spike protein — the structure the virus uses to enter human cells. This protein is also the main target of immune defenses built through vaccination or previous infection. When mutations alter the spike protein\, antibodies may bind less effectively\, reducing their ability to neutralize the virus. DESCRIPTION:The study ‘Benzene and other hazardous air pollutants in consumer-grade natural gas in Europe‘ by scientists at PSE Healthy Energy and Stanford University examined hazardous air pollutants and odorants in consumer-grade natural gas sampled across seven cities in the United Kingdom\, the Netherlands\, and Italy. \nThe study also measured stove-off methane leak rates in homes\, modeled indoor benzene concentrations using CONTAM\, an established indoor air quality model\, and evaluated the air-quality impacts of a large outdoor distribution pipeline leak in Gloucestershire County\, England. Long-term exposure is captured by the accumulated peak ground acceleration. The scientists employ individual-level fixed effects models to deal with selective exposure and find that exposure increases depression and anxiety symptoms. Mensen zien niet aan iemand dat deze autist is\, het is een onzichtbaar probleem. Daarom onderschatten veel mensen het. Tegenwoordig wordt autisme als onafhankelijk van de intelligentie beschouwd. Wat de oorzaken betreft\, zijn er maar weinig wetenschappelijk goed onderbouwde conclusies. DESCRIPTION:In het rapport ‘Inzicht in openbare kwaliteitsinformatie in de medischspecialistische zorg : Nulmeting van de huidige staat van transparantie‘ staat een nulmeting Zorginstituut Nederland en Patiëntenfederatie Nederland over de transparantie van kwaliteitsinformatie in de medisch-specialistische zorg. \nUit dit onderzoek blijkt dat er weinig informatie over de kwaliteit van zorg openbaar is voor patiënten. En dat de hoeveelheid openbare kwaliteitsinformatie de afgelopen jaren nauwelijks toeneemt. In het rapport staan de resultaten. Deze meting is uitgevoerd om een stand van zaken te krijgen over de huidige mate van transparantie van kwaliteitsinformatie in de medisch-specialistische zorg in Nederland. Deze meting volgt uit de afspraken van het Aanvullend Zorg- en Welzijnsakkoord (AZWA). Hierin staan afspraken die partijen maken om meer informatie over kwaliteit van zorg transparant te maken. DESCRIPTION:Op 11 april\, de geboortedag van Sir James Parkinson\, wordt elk jaar Wereld Parkinson dag gehouden; wereldwijd wordt dan aandacht gevraagd voor de ziekte van Parkinson\, ook wordt de behoefte aan onderzoek en specialisten op het gebied van deze ziekte onder de aandacht gebracht. \nDe ziekte van Parkinson is een degeneratieve ziekte in het centraal zenuwstelsel waarbij zenuwcellen langzaam afsterven (“degenereren”). Dit leidt in eerste plaats tot stoornissen in de beweging: parkinson wordt daarom als bewegingsstoornis beschouwd. De symptomen komen langzaam op en worden naarmate de ziekte vordert ernstiger. In de beginfase van de ziekte bestaan de voornaamste symptomen uit schudden\, spasmen\, traagheid in beweging en moeite met lopen. Daarnaast kunnen ook gedrags- en cognitieve problemen voorkomen. In latere stadia is er een verhoogde kans op dementie. Ruim één derde van de parkinsonpatiënten lijdt aan depressie. De kenmerkende verschijnselen samen worden aangeduid met de naam parkinsonisme. De oorzaak van de ziekte van Parkinson is doorgaans onbekend. De ziekte ontstaat waarschijnlijk vanwege een combinatie van genetische en omgevingsfactoren. Familieleden van patiënten hebben een grotere kans om de ziekte ook te krijgen. Mensen die in aanraking zijn gekomen met bepaalde pesticiden en mensen die eerder hoofdletsel hebben opgelopen\, lopen meer risico de ziekte te ontwikkelen\, terwijl rokers en mensen die koffie of thee drinken minder risico lopen. Er is geen middel waarmee parkinson kan worden genezen. DESCRIPTION:How Merck keeps the price of its blockbuster cancer drug sky-high\, shutting out patients and straining health care systems around the world. \nA yearlong investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has uncovered how Merck & Co. has kept the price of its blockbuster cancer drug Keytruda extraordinarily high while deterring competition. The Cancer Calculus\, an investigation by ICIJ and 47 media partners in 37 countries\, also sheds new light on the strategies that have allowed Merck to widen Keytruda’s use — even in cases where its benefits are more limited and lower dosages may be just as effective. A game changer in cancer treatment\, Keytruda\, known generically as pembrolizumab\, weaponizes a patient’s immune system against cancer cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in 2014 to treat advanced melanoma\, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. The FDA has since approved it for 19 types of tumors. ICIJ’s investigation found that Merck’s list prices\, or the initial pre-discount prices\, vary wildly across countries\, ranging from about $850 for a single 100 milligram vial in Indonesia to $6\,015 for the same vial in the U.S. Usually administered via intravenous infusion in 200 mg doses every three weeks or 400 mg doses every six weeks\, treatment can last up to two years — amounting to a staggering $416\,000 according to the drug’s list price in the U.S. — and sometimes longer\, though insurance companies often stop covering the drug after the initial two years. With the cost of prescription drugs continually soaring\, President Donald Trump convened top executives from major drug companies at the White House this past December and promised to lower U.S. drug prices. Among the executives was Robert M. Davis\, head of Merck. All the companies pledged price cuts\, but Merck made no such commitment with Keytruda\, which generated $31.7 billion in 2025 — nearly half the company’s revenue. De ziekte kan in de eerste periode van een tot enkele maanden nog behandeld worden\, na deze incubatietijd is de ziekte niet meer te behandelen.
