SUMMARY:#Migraine12Stories European Migraine Day of Action / Europese Migraine-dag 2026
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, on September 12\, the European Migraine & Headache Alliance (EMHA) celebrates the European Migraine Day. \nMigraine is a chronic disease which negatively influences patients’ lives and their ability to fully integrate within society. About 15% of the European population has to deal with this neurological disease . It means that in average\, in your country\, 1 in 7 people suffer from Migraine. Many of them are silent and seem to live an apparent normal life but the reality is other. Migraine is not just a headache; migraine is a disease that keeps people in the dark for hours\, days and years in a whole life. Pain is just one of the many symptoms that patients suffering from migraine face\, making them episodically enable to think\, to work and/or to perform normal social activities for several times. As a result\, migraine has a devastating impact on their life and loved ones. \nLinks:\nEuropean Migraine Day of Action with MEPS in the European Parliamentean Migraine Day of Action

SUMMARY:A New Tattoo : Festival met een Randje 2026

SUMMARY:Five years after introduction of an opt-out consent system for organ donation; lessons learned from England and the Netherlands - publication
DESCRIPTION:Five years after changing from opt-in to opt-out consent systems in England and the Netherlands\, the report ‘Five years after introduction of an opt-out consent system for organ donation; lessons learned from England and the Netherlands‘ shows the results of the examination of the impact on donor registrations\, consent rates\, donor numbers\, and reflect on lessons learned. \nOpt-out legislation was implemented in May 2020 in England and July 2020 in the Netherlands. In England\, 44% of the population is now registered; 40% recording an opt-in decision and 4% an opt-out decision. In the Netherlands\, mandated donor registration resulted in the entire adult population having their decision recorded: “Yes\, I want to be a donor” (34%)\, “No objection” (24%)\, or “No\, I don’t want to be a donor” (31%)\, while 11% leave the “Decision to next of kin”. Despite these structural changes\, the consent categories created by opt-out legislation (“deemed” consent in England and “No objection” in the Netherlands) remain challenging in practice\, with fewer than 50% of families agreeing to donation. In England\, the family consent rate declined from 69% to 57% between 2020 and 2025 and the donor numbers remain below pre-pandemic levels. In contrast\, the Netherlands experienced a modest increase in family consent rates and donor numbers compared to the opt-in consent system. Opt-out legislation provides an important policy framework\, but sustained system-level commitment remains essential. \nLinks:\nNieuwe donorwet levert beperkt aantal extra donoren op: ‘Categorie ‘geen bezwaar’ blijft uitdagend’ \n2014\, Donorweek

SUMMARY:#WLAD2026 World Lymphoma Awareness Day / Wereld Lymfklierkankerdag 2026
DESCRIPTION:15 September marks World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WLAD)\, and this year\, we are focused on empowering people living with lymphoma and care partners approach tough conversations with greater confidence. \nBeing diagnosed with lymphoma or CLL can be overwhelming – physically\, emotionally\, personally and professionally. According to the Lymphoma Coalition’s 2024 Global Patient Survey\, 67% of people living with lymphoma reported emotional effects like anxiety\, depression and fear of the cancer coming back or getting worse. Yet many aren’t talking to their healthcare teams or seeking support. For World Lymphoma Awareness Day 2026\, the global community is coming together through the campaign\, Navigating Lymphoma and CLL Together. This year’s campaign shines a light on the challenges people may experience throughout diagnosis\, treatment\, survivorship and beyond. It also recognises the important role patient organisations play as trusted guides\, providing reliable information\, practical support\, education\, and compassion at every stage of the journey. \nLinks:\nLymphoma Awareness Day

SUMMARY:Day for Interventional Cardiology 2026
DESCRIPTION:Interventional cardio-angiology improves health\, increases life expectancy and improves the quality of life. \nThe first coronary angioplasty was performed by Dr. Andreas Grüntzig on 16 September 1977. Since then angioplasty has been the procedure that has saved the most grams of myocardium at risk worldwide. In September 2022\, the General Assembly decided to proclaim 16 September as International Day for Interventional Cardiology and invited stakeholders to observe annually the International Day for Interventional Cardiology in an appropriate manner and in accordance with national priorities\, in order to raise public awareness of cardiovascular diseases and procedures\, related complications\, as well as prevention and care\, including through education and the mass media. \nLinks:\nDay for Interventional Cardiology

SUMMARY:Zoutmaxdag 2026

SUMMARY:World Patient Safety Day / Werelddag voor Patiëntveiligheid 2026
DESCRIPTION:Patient safety is a discipline that emphasizes safety in health care through the prevention\, reduction\, reporting\, and analysis of medical error that often leads to adverse effects. \nThe frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse events experienced by patients was not well known until the 1990s\, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors. Recognizing that healthcare errors impact 1 in every 10 patients around the world\, the World Health Organization calls patient safety an endemic concern. Indeed\, patient safety has emerged as a distinct healthcare discipline supported by an immature yet developing scientific framework. There is a significant transdisciplinary body of theoretical and research literature that informs the science of patient safety. No one should be harmed in health care. Yet thousands of patients across the world suffer avoidable harm\, or are put at risk of injury\, while receiving health care every single day. The 72nd World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA 72.6 ‘Global action on patient safety’ on 25 May 2019. The resolution recognizes patient safety as a global health priority and endorses the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September. World Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety. Furthermore\, the Day brings together patients\, families\, caregivers\, communities\, health workers\, health care leaders and policy-makers to show their commitment to patient safety. The theme of the very first World Patient Safety Day in 2019 was aimed at establishing the legacy of the day and highlighting the importance of prioritizing and addressing patient safety globally by all stakeholders. From 2020 and in the coming years\, a new theme will be selected each year\, raising awareness and promoting positive change around patient safety priority areas. 2026 theme: “Safe care for life!“. \nLinks:\nWorld Patient Safety Day

SUMMARY:#IkBlijfMeedoen #WereldAlzheimerdag 2026
SUMMARY:Head and neck cancer awareness week / Hoofd- en Nekkankerweek 2026
DESCRIPTION:Head and neck cancer is a group of cancers that starts in the mouth\, nose\, throat\, larynx\, sinuses\, or salivary glands. \nSymptoms for head and neck cancer may include a lump or sore that does not heal\, a sore throat that does not go away\, trouble swallowing\, or a change in the voice; there may also be unusual bleeding\, facial swelling\, or trouble breathing. About 75% of head and neck cancer is caused by the use of alcohol or tobacco. Other risk factors include betel quid\, certain types of human papillomavirus\, radiation exposure\, certain workplace exposures\, and Epstein-Barr virus. Head and neck cancers are most commonly of the squamous cell carcinoma type. The diagnosis is confirmed by tissue biopsy. The degree of spread may be determined by medical imaging and blood tests. Not using tobacco or alcohol can reduce the risk for head and neck cancer. While screening in the general population does not appear to be useful\, screening high risk groups by examination of the throat might be useful. \nHead and neck cancer often is curable if it is diagnosed early; however\, outcomes are typically poor if it is diagnosed late. Treatment may include a combination of surgery\, radiation therapy\, chemotherapy\, and targeted therapy. Following treatment of one head and neck cancer\, people are at higher risk of having a second cancer. In 2015\, head and neck cancers globally affected more than 5.5 million people (2.4 million mouth\, 1.7 million throat\, and 1.4 million larynx cancer)\, and it has caused over 379\,000 deaths (146\,000 mouth\, 127\,400 throat\, 105\,900 larynx cancer). Together\, they are the seventh most-frequent cancer and the ninth most-frequent cause of death from cancer. In the United States\, about 1% of people are affected at some point in their life\, and males are affected twice as often as females. The usual age at diagnosis is between 55 and 65 years old. The average 5-year survival following diagnosis in the developed world is 42-64%. \nLinks:\nHead and neck cancer

SUMMARY:#IWDP #IDSL Week of Deaf People / Week of the Deaf / Day of Sign Languages 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Deaf People / Week of the Deaf has been celebrated annually across the world during the last full week of September to recognise that deaf people have our own communities\, our own cultures\, our own languages\, sign languages\, which unite them all. \nThe United Nations (UN) General Assembly has proclaimed 23 September as the International Day of Sign Languages in order to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realization of the human rights of people who are deaf. The resolution A/RES/72/161 establishing the day acknowledges that early access to sign language and services in sign language\, including quality education available in sign language\, is vital to the growth and development of the deaf individual and critical to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals. It recognizes the importance of preserving sign languages as part of linguistic and cultural diversity. It also emphasizes the principle of “nothing about us without us” in terms of working with deaf communities. In 2018\, it was celebrated together with the official International Day of Sign Languages\, declared by the United Nations (UN)\, for the first time. The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD)\, its national associations\, and their affiliates all over the world observe International Week of the Deaf from Monday through Sunday\, culminating in International Day of the Deaf on the final Sunday of the week. In order to commemorate International Week of the Deaf\, the WFD invites its national associations and their affiliates to center their celebrations on the theme of Human Rights through Sign Languages. With this emphasis\, deaf culture and the accomplishments of deaf people are highlighted more and are positively portrayed. This emphasis fosters better deaf people’s rights advocacy activities and strengthens the bonds of solidarity between deaf people and those who support them. 2026 theme: “Declaring deaf people’s human rights”. \nLinks:\nInternational Week of Deaf People 2026 \nDay of Sign Languages \nWorld Federation of the Deaf 75th anniversary \n2016-07-15\, Halfdoof

SUMMARY:PFAS in kraanwater: postcodechecker - publicatie

SUMMARY:Spinocerebellar Ataxia Awareness Day / Ataxie Voorlichtingsdag 2026
DESCRIPTION:Spinocerebellar Ataxia Awareness Day (IAAD) is on September 25th of each year and is a coordinated effort from individuals and Spinocerebellar Ataxia (Ataxia\, SCA) organizations around the world to help shed light on this rare disease. \nAtaxia\, is a progressive\, degenerative\, genetic disease with multiple types\, each of which could be considered a neurological condition in its own right. SCA is hereditary\, progressive\, degenerative\, and often fatal. There is no known effective treatment or cure. SCA can affect anyone of any age. The disease is caused by either a recessive or dominant gene. In many cases people are not aware that they carry a relevant gene until they have children who begin to show signs of having the disorder. \nLinks:\nAtaxia Awareness Day \nAtaxie – Hersenstichting

SUMMARY:World Rabies Day / Werelddag tegen de Hondsdolheid 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Rabies Day is held every year on September 28\, this date was chosen as it is the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur – the first person to successfully create a vaccine against rabies. \nWorld Rabies Day is coordinated by Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) and it has been commemorated every year on September 28 since 2007. World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness and advocate for rabies elimination globally. It is an event designed to be inclusive\, uniting people\, organizations\, and stakeholders across all sectors against rabies – because together we can eliminate rabies! \nWorld Rabies Day 2026 theme\, “Stronger Together\,” highlights a simple truth: rabies elimination is only possible when we work together. From local communities and veterinary professionals to governments\, healthcare workers\, educators\, and global partners\, we all have role to play in making a world free from rabies a reality. Although many communities have eliminated rabies\, too many challenges remain: Gaps in communication\, fragmented systems\, and duplicated efforts can slow progress. The 2026 theme calls on all stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and align efforts across human and animal health systems. When we work together\, we can: \n\nExpand access to life-saving dog vaccinations.\nImprove rabies surveillance and reporting systems.\nStrengthen public awareness and education.\nSupport policies that protect both people and animals.\nBuild sustainable community-led solutions.\n\nRabies elimination depends on connected systems. Stronger partnerships create stronger outcomes. \nLinks:\nWorld Rabies Day

SUMMARY:#WorldHeartDay / Wereld Hart Dag / Dress Red Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:In 2000\, World Heart Day was founded to inform people around the globe that Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s leading cause of death and is the biggest global awareness-raising platform for CVD\, celebrated every year on 29 September. \nIn May 2012\, world leaders committed to reducing global mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 25% by 2025. CVD is accountable for nearly half of all NCD deaths making it the world’s number one killer. World Heart Day is\, therefore\, the perfect platform for the CVD community to unite in the fight against CVD and reduce the global disease burden. Created by the World Heart Federation\, World Heart Day informs people around the globe that CVD\, including heart disease and stroke\, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 17.5 million lives each year\, and highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD. It aims to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use\, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity\, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided. World Heart Day is a global campaign during which individuals\, families\, communities\, and governments around the world participate in activities to take charge of their heart health and that of others. Through this campaign\, the World Heart Federation unites people from all countries and backgrounds in the fight against the CVD burden and inspires and drives international action to encourage heart-healthy living across the world. In 2026\, World Heart Day will continue the momentum of ʻDonʼt Miss a Beatʼ\, raising awareness of the worldʼs number one killer and highlighting the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of CVD. \nLinks:\nWorld Heart Day \nDress Red Day

SUMMARY:Bescherm jongeren tegen rokende influencers - petitie
\nLinks:\nBescherm jongeren tegen rokende influencers

SUMMARY:#StoptoberNL 2026

SUMMARY:Oktober Borstkankermaand / Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026
SUMMARY:Wereld MSA Dag / World MSA Day 2026
\nLinks:\nOctober 3 is World MSA Day

SUMMARY:Wereld Cerebrale Parese Dag / #WorldCPday 2026
DESCRIPTION:Cerebrale Parese (CP) betekent letterlijk hersenverlamming\, wereldwijd gezien is CP de meest voorkomende lichamelijke aandoening bij kinderen. \nLinks:\nWorld Cerebral Palsy Day

SUMMARY:Are more young people getting cancer? - publication
DESCRIPTION:Analysis of cancers occurring before the age of 50 and explores what might be driving changes in the number of new cases. \nThe majority of cancers occur among those over the age of 50. However\, in recent years\, researchers around the world including the UK\, US\, Australia and parts of Europe have reported a shift where more cancers are being diagnosed in people under 50. These are commonly referred to as ‘early-onset’ cancers. This doesn’t mean cancer is suddenly common in young people. Age is still the most important risk factor for cancer overall. Although the average age of diagnosis for cancer overall differs by country\, the median or average age of diagnosis in developed countries is above the age of 60. Average age at diagnosis also differs by where in the body the cancer develops\, which is commonly referred to as ‘cancer site’ or ‘site-specific cancer’. At the same time\, evidence suggests that more new cases are being diagnosed among those younger than 50 for several site-specific cancers. Furthermore\, incidence rates are higher among this group now compared with those who were in the same age group in previous decades. In short\, we are seeing increasing numbers of some cancers among younger people. To understand why this might be happening\, World Cancer Research Fund International analysed how the absolute numbers of 12 site-specific cancers changed between 2000 and 2023 in the United States and the Netherlands\, and 2021 and 2023 in England among those under 50 years of age. For each country\, we also explored incidence rates for the first and last years – 2000 and 2023 for the US and Netherlands and 2001 and 2023 for England – for each site-specific cancer. Finally\, we reviewed the published evidence related to what might be driving changes in the number of cases of cancer in the last few decades. \nLinks:\nAre more young people getting cancer? \nEarly-onset cancer data
