Mensen zien niet aan iemand dat deze autist is\, het is een onzichtbaar probleem. Daarom onderschatten veel mensen het. Tegenwoordig wordt autisme als onafhankelijk van de intelligentie beschouwd. Wat de oorzaken betreft\, zijn er maar weinig wetenschappelijk goed onderbouwde conclusies. DESCRIPTION:In het rapport ‘Inzicht in openbare kwaliteitsinformatie in de medischspecialistische zorg : Nulmeting van de huidige staat van transparantie‘ staat een nulmeting Zorginstituut Nederland en Patiëntenfederatie Nederland over de transparantie van kwaliteitsinformatie in de medisch-specialistische zorg. \nUit dit onderzoek blijkt dat er weinig informatie over de kwaliteit van zorg openbaar is voor patiënten. En dat de hoeveelheid openbare kwaliteitsinformatie de afgelopen jaren nauwelijks toeneemt. In het rapport staan de resultaten. Deze meting is uitgevoerd om een stand van zaken te krijgen over de huidige mate van transparantie van kwaliteitsinformatie in de medisch-specialistische zorg in Nederland. Deze meting volgt uit de afspraken van het Aanvullend Zorg- en Welzijnsakkoord (AZWA). Hierin staan afspraken die partijen maken om meer informatie over kwaliteit van zorg transparant te maken. DESCRIPTION:Op 11 april\, de geboortedag van Sir James Parkinson\, wordt elk jaar Wereld Parkinson dag gehouden; wereldwijd wordt dan aandacht gevraagd voor de ziekte van Parkinson\, ook wordt de behoefte aan onderzoek en specialisten op het gebied van deze ziekte onder de aandacht gebracht. \nDe ziekte van Parkinson is een degeneratieve ziekte in het centraal zenuwstelsel waarbij zenuwcellen langzaam afsterven (“degenereren”). Dit leidt in eerste plaats tot stoornissen in de beweging: parkinson wordt daarom als bewegingsstoornis beschouwd. De symptomen komen langzaam op en worden naarmate de ziekte vordert ernstiger. In de beginfase van de ziekte bestaan de voornaamste symptomen uit schudden\, spasmen\, traagheid in beweging en moeite met lopen. Daarnaast kunnen ook gedrags- en cognitieve problemen voorkomen. In latere stadia is er een verhoogde kans op dementie. Ruim één derde van de parkinsonpatiënten lijdt aan depressie. De kenmerkende verschijnselen samen worden aangeduid met de naam parkinsonisme. De oorzaak van de ziekte van Parkinson is doorgaans onbekend. De ziekte ontstaat waarschijnlijk vanwege een combinatie van genetische en omgevingsfactoren. Familieleden van patiënten hebben een grotere kans om de ziekte ook te krijgen. Mensen die in aanraking zijn gekomen met bepaalde pesticiden en mensen die eerder hoofdletsel hebben opgelopen\, lopen meer risico de ziekte te ontwikkelen\, terwijl rokers en mensen die koffie of thee drinken minder risico lopen. Er is geen middel waarmee parkinson kan worden genezen. DESCRIPTION:How Merck keeps the price of its blockbuster cancer drug sky-high\, shutting out patients and straining health care systems around the world. \nA yearlong investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has uncovered how Merck & Co. has kept the price of its blockbuster cancer drug Keytruda extraordinarily high while deterring competition. The Cancer Calculus\, an investigation by ICIJ and 47 media partners in 37 countries\, also sheds new light on the strategies that have allowed Merck to widen Keytruda’s use — even in cases where its benefits are more limited and lower dosages may be just as effective. A game changer in cancer treatment\, Keytruda\, known generically as pembrolizumab\, weaponizes a patient’s immune system against cancer cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in 2014 to treat advanced melanoma\, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. The FDA has since approved it for 19 types of tumors. ICIJ’s investigation found that Merck’s list prices\, or the initial pre-discount prices\, vary wildly across countries\, ranging from about $850 for a single 100 milligram vial in Indonesia to $6\,015 for the same vial in the U.S. Usually administered via intravenous infusion in 200 mg doses every three weeks or 400 mg doses every six weeks\, treatment can last up to two years — amounting to a staggering $416\,000 according to the drug’s list price in the U.S. — and sometimes longer\, though insurance companies often stop covering the drug after the initial two years. With the cost of prescription drugs continually soaring\, President Donald Trump convened top executives from major drug companies at the White House this past December and promised to lower U.S. drug prices. Among the executives was Robert M. Davis\, head of Merck. All the companies pledged price cuts\, but Merck made no such commitment with Keytruda\, which generated $31.7 billion in 2025 — nearly half the company’s revenue. DESCRIPTION:Sinds 1989 is het op 17 april ‘Werelddag Hemofilie’ (World Hemophilia Day) om ieder jaar extra aandacht te vestigen op de zeldzame bloedstollingsstoornis en andere bloedingsstoornissen. \nDe ‘Wereld Hemofilie Dag’ is een initiatief van de World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). De datum is ter ere de geboortedag van de stichter van de organisatie\, Frank Schnabel\, een Canadees zakenman met hemofilie. Hemofilie is een erfelijke stoornis in de bloedstolling. Het bloed kan niet goed stollen omdat een bepaalde stollingsfactor in het bloed ontbreekt. Bij hemofilie blijft de patiënt bij een verwonding of inwendige bloeding langer bloeden dan mensen zonder hemofilie\, ook bij een relatief klein ongeval zoals een sneetje of een bloedneus. Er zijn twee typen hemofilie. Bij hemofilie A heeft de patiënt onvoldoende factor VIII\, bij hemofilie B is er te weinig factor IX. Een tekort van een van de andere stollingsfactoren heet niet hemofilie maar is een ander stollingsprobleem. Hemofilie is een tamelijk zeldzame ziekte\, en komt ongeveer één op de tienduizend keer voor. \n2026 theme of “Diagnosis: First step to care” highlights the critical importance of diagnosis—the essential first step in treatment and care. The WFH estimates that over three-quarters of the population of people with hemophilia worldwide are undiagnosed\, and an even more significant gap also exists for other bleeding disorders. This means that hundreds of thousands of people with bleeding disorders around the world still lack access to basic care. We have the power—and the shared commitment—to change this. We can improve diagnostic outcomes by strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals and enhancing the effectiveness of laboratories. Het gaat over de volgende rechten; patiënten hebben: \n“recht op preventie\, beschikbare en bereikbare zorg\, informatie\, toestemming\, vrije keuze\, privacy en vertrouwelijkheid\, voldoende tijd voor de patiënt\, kwaliteitsbewaking\, veiligheid\, innovatie\, vermijding van onnodig lijden en pijn\, persoonlijke behandeling\, de mogelijkheid klachten in te dienen\, het ontvangen van compensatie.” \nAl deze rechten\, gebaseerd op het Handvest van de Grondrechten van de Europese Unie\, zijn van cruciaal belang voor Europese burgers en de gezondheidszorg. DESCRIPTION:In 2024 is in Nederland 8\,1 miljoen kilo bestrijdingsmiddelen verkocht\, 8 procent meer dan een jaar eerder\, blijkt uit de analyse ‘Sterke toename in verkoop van PFAS-bestrijdingsmiddelen geven zorgen om drinkwatervoorziening‘ van Natuur & Milieu. \nVooral middelen tegen schimmels gingen fors vaker over de toonbank: de afzet steeg met 42 procent. Middelen tegen onkruid en insecten lieten juist een daling zien. De cijfers komen uit het Compendium voor de Leefomgeving en laten zien hoe sterk het middelengebruik kan schommelen. 2024 was een extreem nat jaar. Door de hoge neerslag vormen schimmelziektes een groter risico voor gewassen. Telers grepen vaker naar chemische middelen om hun gewassen te beschermen. Dat roept zorgen op\, want door klimaatverandering zullen dit soort weersextremen vaker voorkomen. Daarom is het nodig dat biologische en andere robuuste teeltwijzen worden gestimuleerd. PFAS-bestrijdingsmiddelen kunnen afbreken in TFA (trifluorazijnzuur). Uit Deens onderzoek blijkt dat TFA schadelijk kan zijn voor de menselijke voortplanting en gemakkelijk in het grondwater terechtkomt. Bovendien is de stof nauwelijks te verwijderen door  waterzuiveringsinstallaties. Dat maakt TFA extra problematisch voor onze drinkwatervoorziening. In Denemarken was dit reden om zes PFAS stoffen te verbieden in de landbouw. In Nederland zijn deze middelen nog toegestaan. Sterker nog: de afzet ervan is in 2024 met 150 procent gestegen. Deze forse stijging komt vooral door fluazinam. Van deze stof werd in 2024 ruim 215.000 kilo verkocht. In de jaren daarvoor lag dat rond de 40.000 kilo. Ook fluopyram en fluopicolide lieten een sterke toename zien. DESCRIPTION:World Hand Hygiene Day campaign objectives: To recognize that people of all levels should work together to influence the culture/climate through clean hands knowledge and behaviour\, to meet the common goal of safety and quality in the health care organization. \nHand hygiene\, hand washing or handwashing is the act of cleaning one’s hands with soap or handwash and water to remove viruses/bacteria/microorganisms\, dirt\, grease\, or other harmful and unwanted substances stuck to the hands. Drying of the washed hands is part of the process as wet and moist hands are more easily recontaminated. If soap and water are unavailable\, hand sanitizer that is at least 60% (v/v) alcohol in water can be used instead\, unless hands are visibly excessively dirty or greasy. Hand hygiene is central to preventing the spread of infectious diseases in home and everyday life settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends washing hands for at least 20 seconds before and after certain activities. These include the five critical times during the day where washing hands with soap is important to reduce fecal-oral transmission of disease: after using the toilet (for urination\, defecation\, menstrual hygiene)\, after cleaning a child’s bottom (changing nappies)\, before feeding a child\, before eating and before/after preparing food or handling raw meat\, fish\, or poultry. When both hand washing and using hand sanitizer are not available\, hands can be cleaned with uncontaminated ash and clean water\, although the benefits and harms are uncertain for reducing the spread of viral or bacterial infections. However\, frequent hand washing can lead to skin damage due to drying of the skin. Moisturizing lotion is often recommended to keep the hands from drying out; dry skin can lead to skin damage which can increase the risk for the transmission of infection. \nLinks:\nWorld Hand Hygiene Day

DESCRIPTION:World Lupus Day wordt georganiseerd door de World Lupus Federation en heeft als doel de levenskwaliteit te verbeteren voor lijders aan de mogelijk fatale auto-immuunziekte lupus en vraagt voor de patiënten meer aandacht en begrip voer de impact van deze ziekte.\n\nMaar wil ook zorgen dat onderwijs\, de gezondheidszorg en andere instanties toegankelijk zijn en blijven. En maakt zich hard voor meer onderzoek naar de oorzaken van lupus\, eerdere diagnose en behandeling en wereldwijd betere epidemiologische gegevens. Lupus is een chronische\, auto-immuunziekte die elk deel van het lichaam (huid\, gewrichten en / of organen in het lichaam) kan beschadigen. Chronisch betekent dat de tekenen en symptomen langer duren dan zes weken en vaak gedurende vele jaren aanhouden. Lupus is niet besmettelijk\, zelfs niet door seksueel contact\, daardoor kan je lupus niet krijgen of geven aan iemand. Staat ook helemaal los van HIV of AIDS. Hoe je het wel krijgt is onbekend. Lupus kan variëren van mild tot levensbedreigend en moet altijd door een arts worden behandeld. Met goede medische zorg kunnen de meeste mensen met lupus een vol leven leiden. Er bestaan vier vormen van lupus: \n\n    systemische lupus (SLE) is goed voor 70% van alle gevallen: een belangrijk orgaan of weefsel\, zoals het hart\, de longen\, de nieren of de hersenen\, worden aangetast.\n    cutane lupus (die alleen de huid aantast) is goed voor ongeveer 10% van alle gevallen\n    drug induced lupus (DILE): bij bepaalde geneesmiddelen zoals antibiotica\, schildklierpreparaten of medicijnen tegen epilepsie\, is een bijwerking dat je ziekteverschijnselen van lupus kan vertonen. DESCRIPTION:Op de geboortedag van Florence Nightingale\, de grondlegster van het verpleegkundige beroep\, wordt internationaal de Dag van de Verpleging gevierd. \nSinds 1964 wordt deze dag ook in Nederland gevierd. De Internationale Raad voor Verpleegkundigen en de Internationale Rode Kruis- en Rode Halve Maan-beweging vieren gezamenlijk de Internationale Dag van de Verpleging. Zij willen alle verpleegkundigen\, waar dan ook ter wereld\, prijzen voor hun inzet. Het zijn mensen die alleen maar ons respect verdienen. Want aan de frontlinie staan in een oorlog is angstig en levensbedreigend. \nDag van het Bewustzijn / Awareness Day werd door Thomas Michael Hennessy\, Jr. bedacht\, de oprichter van Repeal Existing Stereotypes about Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND). De Amerikaanse Tom wilde deze dag niet alleen nationaal lanceren\, hij richtte zijn pijlen op de hele wereld. Internationale Dag van Bewustzijn wil met deze dag meer (bewuste) aandacht vragen voor het hele spectrum van chronische immunologische en neurologische ziekten waaronder ook ME/CVS valt. Niet vreemd dat op de geboortedatum van Florence Nightingale\, de grondlegger van de moderne verpleegkunde\, Dag van Bewustzijn wordt gevierd. In 1992 heeft de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) ME/CVS erkend als ziekte. Vandaar dat sinds 12 mei 1992 jaarlijks de Internationale ME-dag op de Dag voor Chronische Immunologische en Neurologische Aandoeningen valt. Het staat in de boeken vermeld dat Florence vanaf haar 35e levensjaar worstelde met ME-achtige klachten zoals pijn op de borst\, hoofdpijn\, snelle spiervermoeidheid\, aanhoudende pijn in de bovenrug en concentratieproblemen. SUMMARY:De 1000 km : Trap mee tegen kanker
DESCRIPTION:De 1000 km is een uniek fietsevenement waarbij teams van één tot acht fietsers vier dagen lang samen trappen tegen kanker\, traditiegetrouw doen de deelnemers dat tijdens het hemelvaartweekend en doorkruisen ze vanuit Mechelen heel Vlaanderen. \nDe uitdaging en het groepsgevoel staan centraal. De 1000 km\, dat is meer dan een sportieve uitdaging. Teams van 1 tot 8 fietsers leggen samen met vele anderen in pelotons 1000 km af\, verspreid over de vier dagen van het hemelvaartweekend. In aanloop naar het evenement zamelt elk team 5500 euro (6000 voor het internationale peloton) startgeld in voor levensbelangrijk kankeronderzoek. \nLinks:\nTrap na trap sterker dan kanker

SUMMARY:Dag van de Coeliakie / Glutenintolerantie / Coeliac Disease Awareness Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:De Europese organisaties die aangesloten zijn bij de Association of European Coeliac Societies (AOECS) organiseren gedurende de maand mei workshops en voorlichtingsbijeenkomsten waarin extra aandacht gevraagd wordt voor coeliakie en NCGS (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). \nIemand met coeliakie (glutenintolerantie) kan niet tegen gluten. Gluten is een eiwit dat van nature voorkomt in tarwe (waaronder spelt)\, rogge en gerst (gort). Gluten zit in brood\, crackers\, pizza\, pasta\, paneermeel\, koek\, cake en taart. Het zit ook verstopt in de ingrediënten van soepen (bindmiddel\, vermicelli of vlees)\, in sauzen\, sommige snoepjes\, ijssoorten en bier.  Overstappen op producten van en met haver is geen optie want haver is vaak gecontamineerd (besmet) en daardoor niet zonder meer veilig te gebruiken in een glutenvrij dieet. Glutenvrij eten kan dan wel populair zijn als gezondheidsdieet maar voor mensen met coeliakie en NCGS is het geen hype\, het is gewoon medisch noodzakelijk! SUMMARY:Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in 2026

A case in South Kivu was also reported to have been imported from Tshopo province on 21 May. The epidemic is caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus\, which may complicate response efforts as existing Ebola treatments were created for a different strain\, the Zaire ebolavirus. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 16 May 2026. There have been 101 confirmed deaths in D.R. DESCRIPTION:The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the forum through which the World Health Organization (WHO) is governed by its 193 member states\, it is the world’s highest health policy setting body and is composed of health ministers from member states. \nThe members of the WHA generally meet every year in May in Geneva\, Switzerland\, at the Palace of Nations\, the location of WHO Headquarters. The main tasks of the WHA are to decide major policy questions\, as well as to approve the WHO work programme and budget and elect its Director-General (every fifth year) and annually to elect ten members to renew part of its executive board. Its main functions are to determine the policies of the Organization\, supervise financial policies\, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. The Seventy-ninth World Health Assembly (WHA79) takes place in Geneva\, Switzerland from 18 to 23 May 2026\, bringing together delegations from WHO Member States to set global health policy and advance the Organization’s strategic priorities. It will build upon the momentum of the last year’s 78th World Health Assembly\, which adopted the Global Action Plan on Climate Change and Health\, an updated road map for an enhanced global response to the adverse health effects of air pollution\, and the elevation of climate change as the first strategic objective of WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW14\, 2025–2028).
